The interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prince Yaw Owusu, has admitted that Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak has dealt a serious blow to the club’s 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title hopes.
The Porcupine Warriors had aimed to recover from back-to-back setbacks—a league loss to Heart of Lions and an FA Cup exit at the hands of Aduana FC—hoping to turn things around in front of their home supporters at the Baba Yara Stadium.
However, their ambitions were undone when Baba Adamu’s 15th-minute header secured a vital win for the Phobian Club.
The loss leaves Kotoko in fifth place on the league table with 35 points, a position Yaw Owusu admits complicates their challenge for the crown.
“This defeat to Hearts makes our title ambition very difficult. Now we need to fight very hard before we can get the title,” he said.
Kotoko will look to bounce back when they visit Young Apostles for their Matchday 23 clash at the Wenchi Sports Stadium this weekend.
