The woman reportedly murdered by a fetish priest in Awutu Bentum has been identified as Joyce Akua Amponmaa, a 41-year-old mother of three. Joyce, a trader in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, hailed from Akyem Ayirebi in the Akyem Mansah District of the Eastern Region.

According to Adom News, a fetish priest has been implicated in her death, during which he allegedly removed body parts for ritual purposes. Family members revealed that Joyce had visited the priest seeking healing.

Kweku Yeboah, a relative, stated that several months ago, “juju” was planted in front of Joyce’s store, causing an injury to her leg. She was later treated and healed by another fetish priest, Okomfo Hlolary.

In an interview with Adom News, Kweku Yeboah recounted that the suspect claimed to have been possessed after his brother gave him a human hand while they followed Joyce into the bush for herbal treatment. According to the account, the suspect then allegedly pulled out a cutlass and beheaded Joyce.

Kweku Yeboah further stated that the suspect confessed to burying Joyce’s head at his grandfather’s home in the Volta Region. Police are preparing to travel to Joyce’s hometown to exhume her head and remaining body parts.

Meanwhile, Joyce’s mother and sister, visibly distraught, spoke to Adom News, struggling to contain their grief.
