Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has pledged to have his side fully ready for the remaining fixtures of the Ghana Premier League season.
The Tarkwa-based outfit tops the league with 43 points from 21 matches, despite a 2-1 loss to Nations FC at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex that ended their impressive 17-game unbeaten streak.
The defeat, only Medeama’s second of the season, has not shaken their title ambitions, as they hold a seven-point lead over second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars.
“I always say we’re not invincible. We have our strengths and our weaknesses, so we are going to prepare very well and face the rest of the games,” Tanko said.
Tanko led Medeama into the MTN FA Cup quarter-finals last Saturday, following a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over FC Samartex 1996 after a goalless draw in regulation time.
The former Black Stars assistant coach acknowledged that injuries had affected the squad in recent weeks but welcomed the return of key players Manuel Mantey and Emma, both of whom have resumed training.
“Both are training very well. Mantey is back, and Emma has also returned,” he said. “Emma came back about two weeks ago, but we didn’t want to rush him. He played in a friendly match yesterday and did very well, so I think he is fully back.”
Medeama will host Aduana FC at TNA Park in their Matchday 22 clash this weekend.
