We were powerless to stop Ofori-Atta from leaving Ghana – Special Prosecutor

-

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has revealed that his office was effectively powerless under the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, particularly during efforts to prevent former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from leaving the country after the 2024 elections.

Speaking on The KSM Show, Mr. Agyebeng explained that while the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was aware of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s departure, it lacked the institutional support required to enforce travel restrictions.

“We didn’t watch him leave; we were powerless, that’s the truth. We saw him leave, but we couldn’t stop him at the airport,” he disclosed.

He noted that the situation has improved under the current administration, with security agencies now collaborating effectively with the OSP.

“Now we can rely on the Ghana Immigration Service to stop someone if necessary. But at that time, even if you called Immigration, no one would respond,” Mr. Agyebeng added.
