Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has reaffirmed Thomas Partey’s importance to the Black Stars, dismissing recent criticism of the midfielder’s performances.

The comments come after Villarreal coach Marcelino Garcia questioned Partey’s form following their Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

Partey, 32, joined Villarreal on a free transfer after his contract with Arsenal expired. His start at the Spanish club has been disrupted by injuries, with reports suggesting he has been playing through physical issues.

Speaking in an interview, Asante Twum described Garcia’s remarks as overly harsh, emphasizing that Partey remains a top player and a central figure for Ghana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We believe in the quality of Partey, and we do not believe one game defines him as a player,” he said.

“At the FA, we do not share the coach’s view on this matter. Partey remains a top player, and we have a strong belief in his qualities,” Asante Twum added.

Partey is expected to feature in the Black Stars squad for upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany as the team ramps up preparations for this summer’s World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
