Senior member of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah, has declared that Kennedy Agyapong is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strongest candidate to win the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Assibey-Yeboah said the NPP faces a challenging path back to power but has gained an advantage following President John Dramani Mahama’s decision not to contest the 2028 election.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presenting a new candidate means the NPP must field a highly competitive and unconventional flagbearer capable of energising the party’s base and appealing to undecided voters.

“In the current political landscape, it is not the turn of the NPP. We are fortunate that Mahama is not contesting again, because if he were, we would likely lose the election. Ghanaians often give second chances, but with Mahama out of the equation, the NDC will present a new candidate. Therefore, the NPP needs a competitive candidate because many people may still want to vote for the NDC regardless,” he said.

Dr. Assibey-Yeboah explained that his decision to join Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign was based on the belief that the outspoken politician best represents the interests of the middle class and has shown firmness on issues such as job creation and the fight against illegal mining.

He added that while returning to power will not be easy for the NPP, Kennedy Agyapong’s discipline and leadership style give the party its best chance of closing the gap with the opposition and becoming competitive in the 2028 polls.

“Among all the aspirants, I believe Kennedy Agyapong gives the NPP the best chance of winning the general elections. He focuses on key issues such as the middle class, job creation, and addressing galamsey. Agyapong has demonstrated discipline and does not tolerate certain behaviours. He will energize our party base, ensuring that even if we do not win the elections outright, we can close the gap and become more competitive.

Returning to power will not be easy, so we need an unconventional candidate. I believe Agyapong presents us with the best opportunity to regain power,” he added.
