The Volta Regional Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking after intercepting a vehicle transporting suspected narcotic substances along the Accra–Aflao highway.

In a press statement issued on January 22, the police said the intelligence-led operation took place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, near Kpotame, close to Sogakorpe, where officers stopped a black Liberty Jeep with registration number FK 692 KF.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Nigerian national Charles Adenkule, was arrested and is currently assisting police with investigations.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of ten parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram.

The estimated street value of the seized substances is GH¢1,032,650. Police also discovered about half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.

The operation was initiated after the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, received intelligence from the Director of the Police Intelligence Unit. A combined team from the Police Intelligence Department (PID), Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) carried out the interception.

DCOP Akorli commended the officers involved for their professionalism, diligence, and integrity, highlighting their refusal to entertain any attempt at an amicable settlement.

The seized substances will be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for further examination and analysis.

The Volta Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and other criminal activities, urging the public to continue providing credible information to support police operations.
