Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reiterated her dedication to upholding human dignity and deepening social responsibility after extending support to the Ankaful Prison and the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in Cape Coast.

In a Facebook post, she explained that the gesture continues a longstanding annual practice of giving back, meant to uplift vulnerable groups and recognise the efforts of frontline workers.
The items were presented on her behalf by a delegation led by Presidential Staffer Kakra Yalley.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang indicated that assistance to Ankaful Prison reflects the conviction that every citizen, no matter their circumstance, deserves humane and dignified treatment.

She described prisons as centres for rehabilitation and correction, emphasising that providing for the basic needs of inmates is vital for discipline, reform, and smooth reintegration into society.
She praised the leadership and officers of the Ghana Prisons Service at Ankaful for their professionalism and commitment, even as they work under demanding conditions, and renewed government’s resolve to back initiatives that strengthen the correctional system.

A similar donation was extended to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital to enhance the care and general welfare of patients and the staff who attend to them. According to the Vice President, this support signals a continuing commitment to institutions that serve some of the nation’s most vulnerable people.
She added that improving mental health facilities is central to tackling stigma and widening access to quality mental health care, while expressing gratitude to the health workers and caregivers whose dedication sustains the hospital’s operations.

The Vice President reaffirmed that government will continue to champion stronger social protection measures and expanded mental health support structures across the country.
