Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Tuesday, January 20, received the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, on a farewell visit, commending his role in strengthening diplomatic and development cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, held in Accra, provided an opportunity to reflect on years of engagement that have shaped bilateral ties in areas such as infrastructure, trade, education, and technical exchange.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang praised Ambassador Tong for his hands-on and respectful approach to diplomacy, noting that Ghana–China relations have grown beyond formal agreements into practical partnerships impacting the daily lives of citizens.

She highlighted that his tenure helped sustain dialogue, build mutual trust, and deepen collaboration between Ghana and China.

The Vice President also expressed gratitude for China’s continued support of Ghana’s development agenda, particularly in capacity building, investment promotion, and people-to-people exchanges, which she said remain crucial for inclusive growth and industrial expansion.

In response, Ambassador Tong Defa thanked the Government and people of Ghana for their hospitality and cooperation during his stay. He described Ghana as a strategic and dependable partner and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties even after his departure.

“The relationship between our countries is rooted in friendship and shared development goals,” he said, expressing confidence that future engagements would continue to benefit both nations.
