The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana has provided clarification regarding recent additions to students’ third-party fees, following concerns from the student body.

In a statement dated December 16, 2025, the SRC explained that a GH¢312 charge for Telecel data was applied in error. The Finance Directorate is currently working to correct the issue. Students who opted into the data package are expected to pay an initial amount of GH¢122.64 for the entire year, while those who opted out will not be charged any Telecel data fees.

The SRC also announced an additional GH¢200 levy for SRC hostel development. The charge is intended to support the construction of an SRC hostel project aimed at easing accommodation challenges on campus. Once completed, the facility is expected to accommodate about 15,000 students at affordable rates.

Regarding the increment in UGEL Hall fees, the SRC noted a 20 percent increase. An initial proposal of a 29 percent hike was resisted by SRC and Junior Common Room (JCR) executives, resulting in negotiations that lowered the adjustment. The increase is attributed to rising utility costs, including electricity and water.

The SRC assured students of its continued commitment to protecting their welfare and improving campus life, emphasizing ongoing engagement with university authorities to address concerns surrounding fees and accommodation.
