The University of Energy and Natural Resources (University of Energy and Natural Resources) has confirmed the death of one of its students, Mr. Godfred Akomaning.
In a statement signed by Deputy Registrar and Head of the University Relations Office, Alfred Ohenenana Appiah, on Tuesday, March 24, management said the Level 400 BSc Petroleum Engineering student died on Saturday, March 21, 2026, while receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
According to a medical report, the cause of death was organophosphate poisoning.
The university noted that the deceased’s parents have been informed, and his body has been deposited at the Sefwi Anwiaso Community Hospital Mortuary.
Management expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and the university community, describing the incident as tragic.
It added that investigations have been initiated to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, with further updates to be communicated to the public.
The statement further reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff.
