The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced the suspension of its affiliation and mentorship relationship with Royal Nursing College following the withdrawal of the college’s accreditation by regulators.
The decision comes after the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) closed down the institution in February for failing to comply with regulatory requirements governing tertiary institutions.
In a statement, UCC said the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
According to the university, the move became necessary after the college failed to adhere to directives issued by key regulatory bodies, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and GTEC, as well as instructions from the university itself.
“The decision has been necessitated by the College’s non-compliance with regulatory directives and instructions,” the statement said.
UCC emphasised that it remains committed to safeguarding the quality and credibility of academic programmes delivered through institutions operating under its affiliation and mentorship arrangements.
The university further indicated that it will continue to collaborate with relevant regulators to ensure that programmes run by its partner institutions meet approved academic and professional standards.
To prevent disruption to students’ education, UCC has introduced a teach-out arrangement for current Level 300 students of the college, allowing them to complete their studies under an approved framework.
The university also urged the management of the Royal Nursing College to take the necessary steps to address the regulatory concerns and work toward restoring compliance with the required standards.
