The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers following an intelligence-led patrol operation in Dzorwulu, Accra.
According to a police statement, the arrest occurred on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, when officers on routine motorbike patrol spotted two men riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike and behaving suspiciously.
The suspects were identified as Stephen Gletsu, 37, who was riding the motorbike, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20, the pillion rider. Both were reportedly dressed in black and wearing black helmets, with the pillion rider allegedly holding a cutlass.
Police said the suspects attempted to flee after noticing the patrol team, leading to a chase through parts of the area. During the pursuit, officers fired warning shots, causing the suspects to lose control of the motorbike and crash near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission.
The two then attempted to escape on foot but were tracked and arrested by the patrol team.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of several items believed to be proceeds of crime. These included multiple mobile phones, a necklace, GH¢2,690 and USD2.
Among the phones retrieved were an Infinix handset, iPhone 12 Pro, Samsung A21, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 13, a Nokia feature phone, an itel feature phone and other Infinix devices.
A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, said the suspects sustained varying degrees of injuries during the arrest and were sent to the Police Hospital for treatment before being discharged.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to their involvement in robbery activities and confessed to attacking unsuspecting residents in parts of the Accra Metropolis.
Police said investigators have since taken statements from several victims, some of whom have identified both the suspects and the phones stolen from them.
The victims reportedly recounted that the suspects threatened them with a machete before taking their phones, cash and other valuables.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured residents of its continued commitment to clamping down on street robbery and related crimes to ensure public safety.
