Two scrap dealers have been lynched at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region over allegations of child theft.

According to reports, the victims were in the community to purchase scrap materials when residents suspected them of attempting to steal a child and subjected them to mob justice.

The deceased, identified as Alhasan and Nagolo, were allegedly beaten to death by some members of the community, who also set their motorcycle ablaze.

The Unit Committee Vice Chairperson for Ntensere, Saramatu Zackaria, confirmed the incident to Adom News, stating no arrests have been made so far.

“I was attending a wedding ceremony when I received information about a mob action in my electoral area. I rushed to the scene, but before I arrived, the victims had already been killed, leaving their lifeless bodies behind,” she said.

She added that residents claimed the two men attempted to steal a three-year-old child, which led to the attack. However, she strongly condemned the act and called for a thorough police investigation.

The incident has drawn the attention of the Ashanti Regional Scrap Dealers Association, whose members visited the scene.

President of the Association, Alhaji Abdulai Gagala, called for justice.

“This is becoming too frequent in the Ashanti Region. Our members are often attacked based on false accusations. We are not thieves, people should stop killing us,” he lamented.

He urged authorities to ensure such an incident does not recur.

“Mob justice must be addressed with the seriousness it deserves. Anyone could be falsely accused and fall victim to such violence,” he added.

The bodies have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while police have launched an investigation into the incident.
