Two critically injured after head-on collision on Berekum-Sunyani road

-

A serious road crash at Berekum in the Bono Region has left two people severely injured after a Kia truck collided head-on with a taxi on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when the Kia truck, reportedly joining the Berekum–Sunyani highway from the Nyamennae stretch, suffered a brake failure.

The driver lost control, crossed into the opposite lane, and crashed directly into an oncoming taxi traveling toward Berekum from Sunyani.

The impact forced the taxi off the road, causing it to plunge into a nearby valley. Both passengers in the taxi sustained serious injuries, including deep cuts and possible fractures.

Bystanders helped to rescue the victims, who were rushed to the Holy Family Catholic Hospital in Berekum for treatment.

Some residents in an interview with Adom News voiced concern about the increasing number of accidents along the stretch, blaming them on speeding, mechanical faults, and poor road visibility.

They urged transport authorities to intensify public education on road safety and enforce stricter vehicle maintenance inspections.

Police officers have since visited the area to begin investigations into the incident. Both the truck and the taxi have been towed away to restore the free flow of traffic.
