The Gomoa Dawurampong Divisional Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with last week’s attempt on the life of the Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene.
Police reports indicate that nine men on motorcycles stormed the Wassa community on January 7, 2026, in a bid to carry out the assassination. The timely intervention of the Gomoa Dawurampong police prevented the attack from succeeding.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Abeiku, Kojo Wassa, and the alleged destooled Nkosuohene of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Francis Tetteh, popularly known as Nana Tei. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining six suspects.
Gomoa Wassa has been embroiled in chieftaincy disputes for over three years, following disagreements between the Omankrado and developmental chiefs regarding the installation of the town’s Odikro.
Obaatan of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Adwoa Nkum, confirmed that statements from the arrested suspects have been recorded and commended the police for their swift action. She called for the remaining suspects to be brought to justice.
“We commend the police for their diligence and appeal that the remaining suspects be brought to justice,” Nana Adwoa Nkum said.
Meanwhile, Samuel Nana Kwabena Obo, leader of the Gomoa Wassa Youth, urged residents to promote peace and unity in the community. “It is important for everyone in Gomoa Wassa to work together and ensure harmony prevails,” he stated.
The Gyasehene has also filed a petition with the Central Regional Police Command regarding the assassination attempt. Among those named in the petition is lawyer Francis Tetteh Sackey.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities seek to ensure the safety of the traditional leader and the community.
