Tensions erupt as Abronye arrives at court in Black Maria [Video]

There was high drama at the Accra Circuit Court 9 on Friday morning when the outspoken Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, arrived in a Black Maria vehicle under heavy police escort.

His appearance sparked loud cheers and chants from dozens of party supporters gathered outside the court premises.

The charged atmosphere quickly turned chaotic, leading to a brief stampede as supporters rushed to catch a glimpse of him. Police officers had to form a human barricade to restore order.

Abronye DC is standing trial on charges of “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.”

The case comes at a time when he has applied for political asylum in eight countries—Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany—citing threats to his safety and political persecution.

This is not his first brush with the law. Over the years, Abronye has been embroiled in a series of high-profile controversies, often clashing with political rivals and state institutions.

Police have urged calm and called on the public to allow due process to take its course as the trial continues.
