Tension erupted at Hwidiem in the Asutifi South Constituency of the Ahafo Region on Tuesday, 28th January 2026, after National Security personnel attempted to arrest a NPP member, Emmanuel Okai, at a polling station.
Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred when security officers approached Okai, allegedly in connection with a 2024 voter registration incident in which he reportedly brandished a firearm.
At the time, Okai faced no legal consequences, and his party, then in power, reportedly took no action.

As the officers tried to detain him at the polling station, NPP delegates intervened, blocking the arrest and sparking chaotic scenes.
Sources at the scene indicate that the delegates physically prevented the security personnel from taking Okai away, creating a tense standoff that delayed voting activity in the area.
Authorities have called for calm and urged party members and security personnel to allow the rule of law to take its course while maintaining order at polling stations.
