The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Tema Shipyard, Peter Akwasi Mensah, has cut the sod for the construction of a modern Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre for basic schools at Nkrankrom in the Ahafo Region.

Speaking to Adom News during a brief sod-cutting ceremony, Mr. Mensah said pupils in the community lack adequate ICT knowledge compared to their counterparts in cities and larger towns, largely due to the absence of ICT centres in the Methodist and District Assembly (D/A) basic schools.

He explained that his decision to support the community was inspired by his personal background, as a native of Nkrankrom who also had his basic education in the area. Mr. Mensah added that his current position has given him the opportunity to give back by providing an ICT centre that can accommodate between 30 and 40 pupils.

He noted that the facility will be shared by both schools and will help improve pupils’ ICT skills, which have become essential in today’s digital age.

Meanwhile, the Dabehene of Nkaseim, Nana Yentumi Boateng, together with the District Chief Executive for Asutifi South, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, commended Mr. Mensah for the initiative, describing it as a significant boost to teaching and learning in the community.

They also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Peter Akwasi Mensah, noting that his appointment has translated into tangible development for the community.
