The Tema grassroots branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended President John Dramani Mahama for securing a strategic partner for the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) within his first year in office.
In a statement issued by spokesperson Godwin Adjei, the group described the move as a significant boost for Ghana’s industrial revival.
The group noted that VALCO, once regarded as a cornerstone of the city’s industrial base, had faced years of uncertainty and operational decline. Previous efforts to attract investors, they said, failed to produce the desired turnaround.
The Tema NDC said the partnership secured under the current administration represents “a concrete victory for Ghana’s industrial sector,” and expressed optimism that it will stimulate job creation and restore confidence among the youth and working class in the area.
“We have watched VALCO struggle for far too long,” the spokesperson said. “Previous management assured the youth of expansion, yet nothing changed. Today, there is hope. Prosperity is returning to Tema, and the dream of a revived industrial hub is finally a reality.”
The group also linked the development to the government’s proposed 24-Hour Economy policy, noting that the anticipated expansion of VALCO’s operations could support multi-shift work systems and create new employment opportunities.
Describing the development as a “national triumph,” the Tema NDC called for broad support for efforts to revitalise the aluminium smelter and praised President Mahama for his decisive leadership.
