Assembly members in Tano North, Ahafo Region, have expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for ensuring that their monthly allowances are paid, saying the move will improve their work and service delivery.
Speaking at a press conference in Duayaw Nkwanta on behalf of all 37 assembly members, Presiding Member Michael Boakye highlighted that this is the first time in the country’s history that assembly members are receiving regular monthly allowances.
He explained that the support will enable them to work more efficiently and promote development in their communities.
Boakye noted that the lack of allowances in the past made it difficult for assembly members to address even minor challenges in their constituencies.
Other assembly members, including Eric Acheampong and Collins Takyi, added that the allowances would reduce their reliance on the assembly for small-scale community projects.
They emphasized that the funds would also empower committee members to carry out thorough monitoring of local development projects.
