TAGG urges gov’t to procure new presidential aircraft

The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has called on government to urgently procure a modern state aircraft to guarantee the safety and dignity of the President and protect Ghana’s international image.

In a statement dated August 20, 2025, TAGG expressed concern over the inconveniences and risks the President faces during foreign travels, describing the situation as a matter of national security rather than luxury.

“As traders who travel frequently, we understand the frustrations of unreliable airline arrangements. It is worrying that even the First Gentleman of the land is subjected to such inconveniences,” the group said.

TAGG stressed that Ghana, as a resource-rich nation, must not allow the presidency to be exposed to avoidable risks, urging Parliament and government to act swiftly.

“The safety of the President is non-negotiable. The dignity of Ghana must be upheld internationally,” the statement added.

The group emphasized that the aircraft should serve as a national asset, not a partisan tool.

While acknowledging the country’s economic challenges, TAGG insisted that bold decisions were needed to prevent a potential tragedy, urging government to ensure value for money in the acquisition of a durable, modern aircraft.
