The NPP revoked the membership of Yaw Buaben Asamoa and three others after they publicly endorsed a presidential aspirant other than the party’s elected flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews‘ The Pulse on Thursday, the former NPP Communications Director said the once value-driven party has become arrogant and disconnected from the principles of humaneness, integrity, and service that once defined it.

“Everything they performed was overshadowed by the lack of humaneness. For me, that is the biggest problem that party has. It got too arrogant,” he said.

When asked if this was the reason he would not consider rejoining the NPP, Mr. Asamoa responded emphatically: “I don’t intend to go back to the NPP. They don’t have values. First of all, let’s examine the NPP — which NPP are we talking about now?”

He argued that the current state of the party no longer reflects its founding ideals, claiming that its leadership and internal culture have drifted far from the conservative, right-of-center tradition it once upheld.

“As far as I recollect, the roots of the NPP came from the CPP tradition for about eight years. The party was later managed by a chairman who had CPP roots but became NPP. The presidential candidate that took over has NDC antecedents, and his wife is from a PNC family with NDC connections,” he explained.

Mr. Asamoa said these ideological shifts have diluted the party’s identity and corrupted its traditional values of integrity, service, and sacrifice.

This comes at a time when Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen’s newly rebranded United Party (UP) has rejected suggestions that former members who broke away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could be granted amnesty to return to the party.

Former NPP MP hails Mahama’s ‘mature’ leadership style http://34.58.148.58/former-npp-mp-hails-mahamas-mature-leadership-style/ Thu, 16 Oct 2025 17:47:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589329 The General Secretary of the newly formed United Party (UP Plus) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as a more deliberate and mature approach to governance compared to a decade ago.

Speaking on The Pulse on Joy News, the former Adentan MP and New Patriotic Party(NPP) member said the President has demonstrated a noticeable shift in leadership style since assuming office after the 2028 elections.

“This is not President Mahama of 10 years ago. He has matured, he’s deliberate in his decision-making, and he’s trying to plan. There’s no doubt about it. He has changed. His governance style has changed,” he noted.

According to him, while 10 months is not enough time to fully judge a government’s performance, the President’s early actions suggest a more strategic and inclusive approach.

He cited the administration’s efforts to tackle illegal mining (galamsey) and its appointment of technocrats and civil society actors as early signs of a different leadership style.

“Sustainable transformation cannot be assessed in 10 months. In 10 months, all you can do is make your appointments, develop some action plans, and try to deliver on some things. Already, you can see the difficulties with galamsey and a couple of other things,” he added.

The UP Plus General Secretary also commended the President’s efforts to build a team based on competence rather than loyalty, describing it as a clear departure from previous administrations.

“He’s tried to reach out into civil society, into other places. He’s trying to populate his government with competence and minds rather than just loyalty,” he said.

Mahama returned to power after winning the 2024 general elections.

The UP Plus General Secretary believes this new phase of leadership reflects lessons learned during his time away from power.

“It really shows that staying at home for 10 years, he studied and he’s learned,” he concluded.

NPP Super Delegates Congress: Buaben Asamoah issues stern warning to party leadership http://34.58.148.58/npp-super-delegates-congress-buaben-asamoah-issues-stern-warning-to-party-leadership/ Sat, 26 Aug 2023 13:48:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2287606 Spokesperson of aspiring flagbearer Alan Kyerematen, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, has condemned an alleged attack on their Campaign Coordinator in the North-East region.

Speaking to journalists about the development, he indicated that the said agent had been hospitalized.

According to him, a police report has been filed and will be made public in due time.

He’s also alleged that factions of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team members have been allowed to send their mobile phones to the voting area which is in breach of the election directive by the party.

“The EC is looking on, the police is looking and our agent is assaulted for protesting then its grounds enough to reject the entire results.

“There is nothing like defeat in this, it’s a selection, a mere selection. We’re enforcing the rules. There is no victory for anyone when you’re selecting five people, where’s the victory? Those who need it to demonstrate their emptiness are the ones who are pursuing it.”

“The party is peacefully selecting five people to contest in the true election, there is only one true election, November 4. But to begin to assault agents at this time and to begin to flaunt the rules with impunity means that the President, His Excellency, the party leadership who are in charge of the election, and the vice President’s faction ought to beware,” he said.

A Special Electoral College is ongoing in all regions to cut down the number of presidential aspirants to five.

The process has been fairly peaceful with high security presence.

Annoh Dompreh sends strong message to Buaben Asamoah http://34.58.148.58/annoh-dompreh-sends-strong-message-to-buaben-asamoah/ Fri, 10 Feb 2023 13:05:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2215159 The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has taken a swipe at former Adentan Member of Parliament (MP), Yaw Buaben Asamoah.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP has asked the former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to hit the ground and help the party recapture the Adentan seat.

Mr Buaben lost his seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the 2020 election.

Mr Buaben polled 14,181 less votes than his opponent and managed 49,436 votes as against 63,255 votes polled by Mohammed Adamu Ramadan.

But speaking on Adom TV Badwam, Annoh Dompreh stated the NPP was struggling with its numbers, hence Mr Asamoa should go back to win his seat.

“I have heard the tantrums Yaw Buaben is throwing. He said Bawumia is running down the economy. Buaben is a fantastic guy but he got this wrong and I will tell him this; he should go and win the Adentan seat and stop saying things he doesn’t know because we are struggling with numbers in parliament,” he advised.

His comments come after Mr Buaben rubbished polls by International Ghana and the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) UK predicting victory for Vice President Dr Bawumia in the NPP Presidential primaries.

The former lawmaker said that the poll is not credible and is mere propaganda, adding that Dr Bawumia associating himself with the polls affects his credibility.

As a member of former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen‘s campaign team, he said the former performed to satisfaction as the Minister of Trade and Industry.

He stated Alan is the best bet as he brings a different style of leadership which focuses on business.

But to Annoh Dompreh, there is no doubt Mr Kyerematen is good when it comes to trade issues but there is currently a sweeping current and Bawumia will win the primaries.

“I haven’t seen anybody yet who understands trade issues than Alan Kyerematen but the governance of the country goes beyond trade issues.

“Yaw Buaben is saying Bawumia is running down the economy but he should go and check the architecture of the cabinet; Alan was the Chairman of the Economic Management Committee of cabinet because of his experience and portfolio as a Trade Minister,” he challenged.

Annoh Dompreh indicated Dr Bawumia was the favourite of many and the grounds are fertile for him.

2022 budget a break away from traditional fuel politics – Buaben Asamoa http://34.58.148.58/2022-budget-a-break-away-from-traditional-fuel-politics-buaben-asamoa/ Sat, 27 Nov 2021 18:59:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2050649 The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that the 2022 budget will free the nation off the apron strings of fuel politics that has bedevilled the nation’s socio-economic and political history.

Yaw Buaben Asamoa said this when he was addressing party communicators in Takoradi in the Western Region.

This was as part of series of regional engagements geared towards strengthening and equipping party communicators with the requisite knowledge and skill to effectively communicate government policies and programmes that will resonate with the masses.

“The 2022 budget will in an unprecedented manner revolutionalise public finance in the country. The introduction of the 1.75 per cent E-levy on mobile money transactions will permanently freeze the habitual introduction of taxes on fuel since the PNDC era,” he said.

He further explained that the introduction of the E levy will resolve the national debt stock debacle that stands at GHS 334 billion.

“This budget is a complete break away from the politics of borrowing because the E-levy will deal with the excessive government borrowing with cutting throat interest.

“Studies have proven that E-commerce in the country has grown from GHS 35 billion and is estimated to hit a whopping one trillion Ghana cedis equivalent to $164 billion by December 2021. E Levy is a new economy, a brand new economy,” he added.

He opined that this is a gold mine that the nation cannot ignore and questioned the prudence of going to the IMF which he claims is the NDC’s position.

He urged communicators to be confident to tout the benefits embedded in the 2022 budget statement .

He also charged them to use the knowledge and skills gained to turn the Western and Western North Regions into strongholds of the NPP.
