In the statement, Sista Afia said she had no knowledge of how or when the young girl got on stage and stressed that she did not personally invite her to perform. She noted that her current focus remains on reviewing the success of her decade-long music milestone and working with her management team to assess all aspects of the event.

She added that after the review, a detailed response on the matter will be issued at the appropriate time.

Sista Afia further thanked the general public for the overwhelming support shown during her anniversary celebration and assured that an update would be provided in due course.

The visit came ahead of her highly anticipated 2025 Shay Concert, set for November 22, 2025, at West Hills Mall in Weija.

Wendy Shay went to the palace to seek the blessing and protection of Nii Ayi Okufobour, the traditional leader of Weija, for her annual show.

Upon her arrival, members of the traditional household, including an oracle, performed cultural rites and recited incantations to formally welcome the singer.

During the ceremony, the oracle offered Wendy Shay a small cup of what was believed to be palm wine, a traditional drink used in local rituals.

The singer, however, appeared hesitant and politely declined the offering, despite encouragement from those around her.

Nodding her head in refusal, she observed the ritual from a distance while the oracle poured the drink as libation and held Wendy’s hand to perform a traditional rite three times, allowing the proceedings to continue.

The 2025 Shay Concert, sponsored by Hisense Ghana and The Luckiest Africa, will feature performances from top Ghanaian artists including Showboy, KiDi, Mr Drew, Eno Barony, Larusso, Quamina MP, Kofi Mole, and Lasmid.

Speaking in an interview on Prime Time with George Quaye on Joy Prime, the “Survivor” hitmaker said music has always been part of her DNA.

“Music runs in my blood. My grandfather is the late Nana Ampadu, from my father’s side, so I come from a family of musicians. People never knew this—maybe that’s why fans call me the queen of Ghana music,” she said.

The revelation has surprised many fans, as Wendy had never publicly linked herself to the late Highlife legend, who composed over 800 songs, including timeless hits such as Ebi Te Yie, Obra, and Agatha.

Nana Ampadu, who passed away on September 28, 2021, at the age of 76, was one of Ghana’s most celebrated musical storytellers. His lyrics shaped generations, and his musical legacy now lives on through his granddaughter.

Wendy Shay added that discovering her musical heritage has given her a deeper understanding of her natural connection to music.

“I witnessed something yesterday and I still cannot believe it. Shatta Wale gave all his mechanical rights on Stevie Wonder and H.I.T to Rufftown Records. I don’t know how many people can show such kindness in this industry. A King for a reason. More blessings, King,” she wrote.

Mechanical rights are royalties earned whenever a song is reproduced, sold, or streamed on digital platforms or through physical copies like CDs. They ensure that the songwriter or performer is compensated whenever the song is mechanically reproduced.

By transferring his share of these rights to Rufftown Records, Shatta Wale has redirected a portion of the long-term earnings from both songs to Wendy Shay’s label. This means Rufftown will now exclusively benefit from sales, streams, and reproductions of Stevie Wonder and H.I.T, strengthening the label’s financial base.

Wendy Shay visited the affected traders and expressed her empathy for their plight.

In an interview with DJ Slim, Wendy Shay explained that, their disagreement centered around a 360 Record Label Deal that Bullet didn’t approve of.

On why she thinks the accident was a spiritual attack, Wendy Shay said the tipper truck mangled behind repairs but she miraculously survived.

“The tipper truck rather somersaulted and got condemned, and I feel like it was more of a David and Goliath fight. It was loaded with rocks, that is how serious it was. Thank God, here I am” she cried.

When the show host tried to convince her that the accident could have been a mechanical fault, Wendy Shay still maintained her stance.

“I am very logical and diplomatic and I like to weigh things. I know what I am talking about. I have not checked with any deity but what I can say is that they know themselves. I am not going to mention their names or say anything, but they know themselves. I do not get scared because I am a child of God. You cannot kill me until God says it’s time,” she said confidently.

As the investigation into the accident continues, Wendy Shay remains resolute and is now focusing on her recovery and her passion for music.

She is currently promoting her new song “Love Me Now”.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, the Survivor hitmaker who described herself as one of the most bullied Ghanaian musician on social media said she avoids them to keep her mental health in check.

“I don’t read comments. I don’t do that for my sanity and mental health. Being an artiste who has been cyberbullied, I don’t care about others opinions. My team go for feed backs, so I manage my account with them. I put the things out, but I don’t check them.” she explained.

About her spiritual life, Wendy Shay said she used to joke about her Christian life, but she is focused now.

“I meditate and pray a lot. I am very spiritual and everything comes from the spirit realm. I try to understand why I am feeling how I am feeling. I try to surround myself with positive people. My circle is very tight because I am picky about the people I let into my circle,” she said.

In her first tweet since the incident, she said she was saved by grace and the well-wishes by some industry players played a major role in her recovery.

According to her, she had recorded a song titled ‘Who are your friends’ on September 7, 2023, just days before the accident occurred on September 10, 2023.

The singer found deeper meaning in the lyrics of her song, noting that some people will only show love and support when a person is in a dire situation.

“Some people will only love you when you are dead,” she wrote.

Wendy Shay thank God for life acknowledging the support and prayers from her family, team, and fans.

She also expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians and celebrities who showed her love and support during this challenging time.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Bullet said the tipper truck run into Wendy Shay’s Jeep Wrangler from behind causing her to hit her head on the dashboard.

He noted that, Wendy Shay who was with her personal assistant was returning home after a video shoot for her new song when the accident occurred.

Bullet revealed that, due to the severity of her injuries, Wendy Shay will go to Germany for a thorough medical checkup.

“We are trying to get her back to Germany for further checks. We are going to see the police this morning. We have been there, and they said they have to test the car and everything. We hope they get done soon,” he stated.

Bullet also denied claims that he is a cultist, adding that, the situation has rather caused him to be spiritually awake.

“The enemy is always around and I have to pray harder. Ghanaians should also remember me in their prayers. I didn’t start the label with juju or anything. No matter how strong people see me, I am human. Imagine if anything like that happened? he quizzed.

Moments after his artiste got involved in an accident, some Ghanaians took to the Twitter, now X platform, to rebuke him following the death of his artiste, Ebony Reigns in 2018.

Reacting to all the negative rumours on Hitz FM‘s Daybreak Hitz show on Wednesday, Bullet said he is a Christian and would never join any spiritual cult to sacrifice his artistes.

“Who would invest so much in an artiste and say I want to kill her at the time when I am supposed to get returns from my investment?”

“I have not been to any juju. I don’t know if it’s a spiritual attack. I’m taking this very seriously and imagine if Wendy had died, where would I have been by now? Ghanaians would say I have used her for blood money. I am worried and the things I am hearing are so sad. If I were in their shoes, I will say the same,” he said.

Additionally, the Rufftown Records manager poured out his Christian faith saying, “I am just praying to God over it. I only know Jesus Christ, but if it keeps repeating then I know the enemy is at play”

“I know they want me to be disgraced, so I have to pray, and I have to seek protection. Spiritual things are real, and I have prayed to God for these things happening to me. I know its not coming from my camp.” he said.

On the night of Saturday, September 9, 2023, the ‘Uber Driver’ singer had an accident on the Kwabenya road in Accra.

A news report captured Wendy’s Jeep Wrangler vehicle with the registration number plate, SHAY 21-19 with a mangled front side. Her car collided with a tipper truck loaded with sand.

In a live account of the incident on UTV’s ‘United Showbiz’, the Deputy News Editor of the station, Prince Obimpeh who chanced on the scene said Wendy Shay had complained of severe headache at the moment. 

She was then taken to the hospital. 

A press statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RuffTown Records, Ricky Nana Agyeman (Bullet), indicates that Wendy is currently responding to treatment.

“Accordion to latest medical reports, Wendy Shay is in a stable condition and is expected to make full recovery,” he wrote.

Bullet has also asked the public to pray for Wendy.

This comes a few days after the artiste reiterated the need for creatives to be spiritually fortified if they want to reach greater heights in their careers.

A UTV news report indicates that the accident happened on Saturday night on the Kwabenya road in Accra.

Reports say Wendy’s car collided with a tipper truck loaded with sand.

In a live account of the incident on UTV’s ‘United Showbiz’, the Deputy News Editor of the station, Prince Obimpeh who chanced on the scene said Wendy Shay had complained of a severe headache at the moment. 

“You are aware that the stretch of road between the ACP Junction and Kwabenya is typically clear at night, thus despite the presence of police, cars are frequently travelling at top speed.

“Coming out of the valley, not far from the KNUST Accra Campus Junction, I noticed a group of people gathering around a car,” he narrated.

He added that he decided to park and check out what had happened.

“I saw a woman in dreadlocks who looked like Wendy Shay getting out of a car. When I got closer, I noticed that it was Wendy Shay. The number plate of her Wrangler is customised with her name,” he further noted.

The reporter said he got closer and asked a few question but Wendy looked restless and had complained of severe pain in the head; she had hit her head on the dashboard.

In the meantime, she has been taken to the hospital for treatment. 

Wendy Shay recently released two songs ‘Every Man Cheats’ and ‘Heartless.’

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces, Wendy indicated any man who wants to marry her needs to align with her music aspirations because music is what makes her relevant in the world.

“I am not even thinking about marriage, because you know music is my destiny and that is what makes me relevant in this life and so I don’t think that I will trade something like that for marriage,” she said.

“You should be in alignment with my destiny. If it’s just lovey-dovey and you just loving me and taking care of me, I don’t think that is enough for me to give you attention,” she added. 

A lot of female creatives have quit their jobs for other careers after getting married and building families. 

For most of them, combining family tasks and the drudgery of their creative careers is too herculean to contend with. They would rather want to save their marriages and cater for their families.

According to her, talent is not enough; it takes faith in one’s object of worship to complement their hard work. 

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces on the success stories and challenges of women in showbiz, Wendy mentioned that no artiste can get to the top without spiritual fortification. 

“Every artiste you have seen on top is not doing what they are doing carnally. I go by the mantra ‘work hard and have faith.’ Hard work goes hand in hand with faith. 

After working hard, going to the studio, recording songs, doing whatever you do, you should also seek for [sic] spiritual back-ups. None of us do what we do carnally. It is either you are in the light or you are in the darkness. This is what a lot of underground musicians don’t know. It is either you believe in God or Jesus Christ or whatever you believe in, to order your steps for you. I mean, if you do it with your natural strength, you’ll get tired and discouraged,” she intimated. 

Wendy Shay who is currently out with ‘Every Man Cheats’ and ‘Heartless’ recently said in an interview on TV3 that she had a lot of spiritual attacks when she stepped the threshold of the music industry. 

“Music is a spiritual journey; it has profoundly shaped the woman I am today. It has made me more attuned to the spiritual dimensions of life and the intricacies of the industry I belong to. Growing up in Germany, I never experienced anything like this, but upon coming to Ghana, I had to embrace the spiritual aspect,” she said. 

After five years of being in the music industry, Wendy has chalked a lot of successes, won topmost awards, topped international charts despite scathing criticism of some of her actions.

She shared a photo which reveals how she looked as a baby when she was only known as Wendy Asiamah Addo.

She eluded innocence and judging from her subtle smile, she was raised in love and contentment.

She was photographed wearing a flowery dress and her natural hair held back with a beautiful head piece.

The photo has garnered nearly 11,000 views and hundreds of comments including those from celebrities who have wished her better years ahead.

Some fans also complimented her for maintaining her God-given beauty.

Like the era of Jesus Christ, Wendy Shay, found her own Zacchaeuses in the form of about five fans who climbed on tree tops just to catch a glimpse of their favourite artiste.

Reviewing the footages exactly a week after the concert rocked the forecourt of the West Hills Malls, Wendy spotted the group out of the thousands who attended the show.

The shirtless fans were clinging out to some weak branches of a tall tree situated in the hearts of the venue, while waving their shirts, as though to command attention to them.

Without fearing for the worst, the special fans were hyper and jamming to the performance, even more than the multitude.

In reaction, Wendy Shay stated in an Instagram post that she has taken notice of their actions and would want to meet them.

The songstress earlier dropped ‘Survivor’, a jam that many thought was literal, but her recent ‘Warning’ song cements that fact that she is actually talking to two people.

The first song may have been dedicated to her previous boyfriend and the latter goes for her best friend who snatched her man.

The broken heart situation may have birthed the ‘Survivor’ song, as Wendy Shay struggled through a hard time to believe what she went through.

Her choice of lyrics in the songs aren’t the typical Wendy, who would play around words or rhyme to close the chapter.

Taking to social media to outdoor the second song, Warning, she had a confession to make, thus:

The mammoth crowd at the newly built McDan Sports Complex at Sege last Saturday, August 6^th 2022, welcomed Shatta Wale in style.

Opening the show were a number of upcoming acts from Ada and its environs, who took turns to entertain guests with great acts laced with a lot of enthusiasm and a desire to show the world what they’ve got.

The real fire ignited when Ga rap champion, Tinny, took the stage to open the show with back to back hits.

Coming in right after was the “Mood” Hitmaker and product of the MTN Hitmaker Reality TV series, Mr Drew, whose energy and star performance took the show a notch higher from where Tinny had sited it.

The levels would go even higher as Sefa, Fameye and Wendy Shay captivate the crowd with some awe-inspiring back-to-back performances that left patrons yearning for more and more.

When loud and colourful fireworks lit up the Sege night sky, little did they know it was to usher in the dancehall King, Shatta Wale.

Once on stage, the party shot up to a crescendo, the over 30,000 people who had been standing all night suddenly found their voices amid renewed strength to dance with the Country Boss for hours.

Celebrated Joy Sports Presenter and Ring Announcer, Nathaniel Attoh, aka Citizen Attoh was on the microphone as the main event MC alongside Accra’s evening mayor, Mr. Maximus Mensah, aka Dr. Pounds of Hitz FM with Hitz FM’s DJ Bridash as the evenings main DJ.

Also appearing onstage to introduce S3FA and charge up the thousands of patrons while showing off his unique dance skills was Joy FM’s drive time host, Lexis Bill!

Dr Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, whose company, Electrochem Ghana limited powered the event, joined Shatta Wale on stage at the invitation of the latter.

Shatta took a minute to commend McDan for putting up the huge Ultra-Modern Sports Complex at Sege and entreated the locals to support him for the many projects he is undertaking at Ada and its environs.

Still in the spirit of appreciating the private business mogul for his commendable works in the area, the Ghana Scouts Association stepped up at the concert to honour and decorate Dr. Daniel McKorley as the Chief Patron of the Association.

Shatta Wale was on the night also appointed as a Chief Ambassador of the Ghana Scouts Association.

The event came to an end around 4am and saw a record 30,000 plus patrons in attendance.

The Astro Turf was constructed by Robert Coleman’s Wembly Sports Construction Company Limited.
