At the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria, Wendy Shay emerged victorious, clinching the Best Female Artiste in Western Africa award with her hit song Too Late.

She represented Ghana in a highly competitive category that featured top artistes including Amaarae and Moliy (Ghana), Ayra Starr and Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), Josey (Côte d’Ivoire), Djelykaba Bintou (Guinea), Mariam Ba Lagaré (Mali), Mia Guissé (Senegal), and Viviane Chidid (Senegal).

In her acceptance speech, an emotional Wendy Shay expressed gratitude to her fans, partners and record label for their unwavering support throughout her journey.

She also thanked AFRIMA for the recognition, noting that breaking through as a female artiste in a male-dominated industry comes with significant challenges.

“This means everything to me,” she said, dedicating the award to women pushing through barriers in the music space and encouraging upcoming artistes to stay resilient.

The win was made even more special as the awards marked Wendy Shay’s first-ever visit to Nigeria.

Even before the announcement, the Ghanaian star had already captured attention on the red carpet, proudly showcasing her roots in a striking Kente gown that blended tradition with star power.

She later delivered a captivating performance of Too Late alongside her mentee, Tracy Shay, whose viral dance moves have helped boost the song’s popularity.

I did not invite Tracy Shay to my concert – Sista Afia clarifies http://34.58.148.58/i-did-not-invite-tracy-shay-to-my-concert-sista-afia-clarifies/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 07:41:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2617171 Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has issued a statement clarifying her role in an incident at her 10th Anniversary concert, where a minor, Tracy Shay, appeared on stage to perform.

In the statement, Sista Afia said she had no knowledge of how or when the young girl got on stage and stressed that she did not personally invite her to perform. She noted that her current focus remains on reviewing the success of her decade-long music milestone and working with her management team to assess all aspects of the event.

She added that after the review, a detailed response on the matter will be issued at the appropriate time.

Sista Afia further thanked the general public for the overwhelming support shown during her anniversary celebration and assured that an update would be provided in due course.

The issue sparked public debate after social media users questioned the appropriateness of a minor performing at an adult-rated concert.

Wendy Shay, Tracy Shay’s mentor, also expressed dissatisfaction, stating that she was not informed about her mentee’s appearance on stage. She explained that one of the challenges of mentorship involves parental interference in decisions concerning young talents.

Wendy Shay clarified that Tracy’s appearance on stage was a decision taken solely by her parents, adding that neither she nor Sista Afia was aware of it. She called for calm as efforts continue to resolve the matter.

“What’s all this?” – Wendy Shay speaks on challenges of mentoring other people’s children http://34.58.148.58/whats-all-this-wendy-shay-speaks-on-challenges-of-mentoring-other-peoples-children/ Tue, 06 Jan 2026 08:08:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616347 Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has sparked public discussion following a Facebook post in which she reflected on the challenges of mentoring other people’s children.

The post has raised questions about her relationship with two young influencers, Tracy Shay and Korkor Shay, both of whom have been closely associated with the singer in recent months.

In the post, Wendy Shay spoke candidly about the difficulties that come with guiding minors who are not one’s own, particularly when parents become involved.

“The hardest part of mentoring someone else’s child is often the parents’ interference. What’s all this?” she wrote on Facebook.

Her comments triggered speculation on social media about possible tensions between the singer and the two children, who have appeared alongside her at events and performances.

Wendy Shay’s association with Tracy Shay first gained national attention after the young girl went viral for her energetic dance to the singer’s hit song Too Late during the All Ashaiman Schools Festival. The widely shared video caught the artiste’s attention and drew her into the spotlight.

Following the viral moment, and amid online backlash directed at the child, Wendy Shay visited Tracy’s school and announced her decision to sponsor her education from Class Five through to university. She explained at the time that her goal was to safeguard Tracy’s future and ensure that her education remained a priority.

Despite this gesture, the singer has faced criticism from sections of the public for keeping Tracy and Korkor close and allowing them to perform at some of her shows. Critics argue that the children should be shielded from the pressures of the entertainment industry.

Korkor Shay, like Tracy, became known after appearing in videos celebrating Wendy Shay’s music and performances. Although less is publicly known about her background, Wendy Shay has previously stated that her involvement with Korkor is rooted in mentorship and encouragement rather than any formal arrangement.

Wendy Shay has not indicated that there is a rift between her and the two children. However, her post has reignited broader conversations about celebrity mentorship, parental influence, and the delicate balance between nurturing young talent and protecting the wellbeing of minors.

Wendy Shay clears the air on viral ‘drink snub’ at Weija Palace http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-clears-the-air-on-viral-drink-snub-at-weija-palace/ Thu, 27 Nov 2025 07:07:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604424 Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has addressed widespread reports suggesting she deliberately refused a ceremonial drink offered to her at the Weija Palace.

She explained that her decision was based on health concerns, not disrespect.

The incident occurred when she visited the palace of Weija Chief, Nii Ayiokufoubuor I, to pay homage ahead of her Shay Concert.

A short video from the ceremony sparked online speculation, with many claiming Wendy Shay had intentionally snubbed a drink she was expected to sip before entering the palace, as tradition demands.

In a clarification, Wendy Shay explained that the drink presented to her contained alcohol, not water as some had assumed.

She said she declined it on medical advice, as she is currently on medication.

Wendy Shay emphasized that her decision had nothing to do with disregarding tradition or elders.

“I respect tradition, so I wouldn’t snub or disrespect the elders and their customs. I didn’t know I would be offered anything to ingest, but everyone knows I am not self-conceited. I’m also a nurse, so I know the implications of mixing drugs with alcohol,” she said.

She dismissed circulating rumours about her behaviour and called for understanding from her fans.

Moment Wendy Shay declined traditional drink during Weija Palace visit http://34.58.148.58/moment-wendy-shay-declined-traditional-drink-during-weija-palace-visit/ Sat, 22 Nov 2025 11:56:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602820 Singer Wendy Shay had a slightly awkward encounter with a traditional oracle during her visit to the Weija Palace on November 20, 2025.

The visit came ahead of her highly anticipated 2025 Shay Concert, set for November 22, 2025, at West Hills Mall in Weija.

Wendy Shay went to the palace to seek the blessing and protection of Nii Ayi Okufobour, the traditional leader of Weija, for her annual show.

Upon her arrival, members of the traditional household, including an oracle, performed cultural rites and recited incantations to formally welcome the singer.

During the ceremony, the oracle offered Wendy Shay a small cup of what was believed to be palm wine, a traditional drink used in local rituals.

The singer, however, appeared hesitant and politely declined the offering, despite encouragement from those around her.

Nodding her head in refusal, she observed the ritual from a distance while the oracle poured the drink as libation and held Wendy’s hand to perform a traditional rite three times, allowing the proceedings to continue.

The 2025 Shay Concert, sponsored by Hisense Ghana and The Luckiest Africa, will feature performances from top Ghanaian artists including Showboy, KiDi, Mr Drew, Eno Barony, Larusso, Quamina MP, Kofi Mole, and Lasmid.

Speaking on Joy Prime to promote her latest album Ready, Wendy said she has been fortunate to witness Shatta’s true personality, which contrasts sharply with his fiery stage persona.

She described him as a “genius and a sweet boy,” highlighting the calm, creative side of the Ayoo crooner that fans rarely see.

Recalling their first studio session for their hit collaboration Stevie Wonder, Wendy said: “The Shatta I met that day wasn’t the bold, loud performer everyone sees on stage. He was just himself, a cutie, honestly—lost in his creativity and so passionate about every lyric and beat.”

Since then, she said, she has seen a different side of him, which has strengthened their bond. This connection goes beyond music, with Shatta Wale later gifting Wendy Shay and Rufftown Records the mechanical rights to both Stevie Wonder and H.I.T, a rare gesture of generosity in the industry.

Their friendship, built on mutual respect and artistry, continues to be one of Ghana’s most celebrated collaborations.

Late Nana Ampadu is my grandfather – Wendy Shay reveals http://34.58.148.58/late-nana-ampadu-is-my-grandfather-wendy-shay-reveals/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 12:07:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594215 Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has revealed that the legendary Highlife musician Nana Ampadu is her grandfather.

Speaking in an interview on Prime Time with George Quaye on Joy Prime, the “Survivor” hitmaker said music has always been part of her DNA.

“Music runs in my blood. My grandfather is the late Nana Ampadu, from my father’s side, so I come from a family of musicians. People never knew this—maybe that’s why fans call me the queen of Ghana music,” she said.

The revelation has surprised many fans, as Wendy had never publicly linked herself to the late Highlife legend, who composed over 800 songs, including timeless hits such as Ebi Te Yie, Obra, and Agatha.

Nana Ampadu, who passed away on September 28, 2021, at the age of 76, was one of Ghana’s most celebrated musical storytellers. His lyrics shaped generations, and his musical legacy now lives on through his granddaughter.

Wendy Shay added that discovering her musical heritage has given her a deeper understanding of her natural connection to music.

“I now understand why music found me so naturally. It’s not just passion, it’s legacy,” she noted.

“I present to you transformation, strength, value, and prosperity,” she wrote

While she has yet to disclose the complete tracklist or featured artists, her recent run of singles—including ‘Psycho,’ ‘Sapiosexual,’ ‘Apology,’ ‘Too Late 2.0,’ and the newly released ‘Crazy Love’—has built strong anticipation for what could be her most defining album yet, potentially putting her in contention for next year’s “Artist of the Year” title.

The album announcement comes just a day after Wendy Shay shared an update on her annual end-of-year concert, which has been rescheduled to November 22.

The change was made to honour the final funeral rites of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26.

“NOTICE! In honor of the late, great Daddy Lumba, we’ve moved The Shay Concert to 22nd November 2025 to make way for his funeral as we pay our final respects to the Legend. Thank you all for your love, understanding, and support. #SHAYGANG,” she announced.

As the nation prepares to celebrate the life of one of Ghana’s most legendary musicians, Wendy Shay hopes that “Ready” will contribute to the healing process. The album officially arrives on October 24—just thirteen days away.

Wendy Shay praises Shatta Wale for handing mechanical rights of hit songs to Rufftown Records http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-praises-shatta-wale-for-handing-mechanical-rights-of-hit-songs-to-rufftown-records/ Fri, 26 Sep 2025 09:20:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2582584 Songstress Wendy Shay has lauded Shatta Wale after the Dancehall King transferred his mechanical rights for two of their hit collaborations to her record label, Rufftown Records.

Shatta Wale relinquished some rights to their 2018 hit Stevie Wonder, which has amassed over six million views on YouTube, as well as their 2020 feature H.I.T (Haters In Tears), which has garnered nearly nine million views.

Expressing her amazement on social media, Wendy Shay described the move as a rare act of generosity in the music industry.

“I witnessed something yesterday and I still cannot believe it. Shatta Wale gave all his mechanical rights on Stevie Wonder and H.I.T to Rufftown Records. I don’t know how many people can show such kindness in this industry. A King for a reason. More blessings, King,” she wrote.

Mechanical rights are royalties earned whenever a song is reproduced, sold, or streamed on digital platforms or through physical copies like CDs. They ensure that the songwriter or performer is compensated whenever the song is mechanically reproduced.

By transferring his share of these rights to Rufftown Records, Shatta Wale has redirected a portion of the long-term earnings from both songs to Wendy Shay’s label. This means Rufftown will now exclusively benefit from sales, streams, and reproductions of Stevie Wonder and H.I.T, strengthening the label’s financial base.

The bond between Wendy Shay and Shatta Wale has been visible over the years, with both artists supporting each other during key career moments. Their camaraderie was particularly evident when Rufftown CEO Bullet stood by Shatta Wale during his recent detention at EOCO over an ownership dispute involving his car.

In a strongly worded post shared on social media, the Survivor hitmaker dismissed the rumours, insisting that her body is natural and has always been.

According to her, the constant bullying she faced when she entered the music industry blinded many Ghanaians to her authentic beauty. She added that the peace of mind she enjoys today has contributed to her now-visible curves.

Wendy Shay, who has previously spoken out against body shaming and cyberbullying, expressed concern about how quickly critics label women without any factual basis.

She called for the public to be more informed and respectful of people’s natural appearances instead of always attributing physical traits to cosmetic procedures.

The RuffTown Records singer also addressed the pressure women face regarding their bodies, urging critics to either mind their business or educate themselves on the difference between natural and surgically enhanced physiques.

“So y’all want to tell me before BBL, Africans didn’t have natural shapes like mine? What’s with this BBL tag? Is it because I’ve gained in the right places?” she wrote.

“Y’all should get a life and stop being naive. What you’re seeing is 100% natural. It’s not my fault y’all didn’t realize it earlier because of the bullying when I stepped into the game. I’ve had it since!

“Clearly, humans will always have something to say — it’s either your booty is too big, too small, or too fake. Mind your business! Africa, wake up!”

Ghanaian artiste Wendy Shay has opened up about how online trolling nearly ended her music career.

Describing herself as the most bullied artiste in Ghana, Wendy revealed on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Shopsydoo that she faced heavy backlash from music lovers who believed she was trying to imitate the late Ebony Reigns.

“At a point, my mum asked me to quit music and return to Germany because the trolling was overwhelming and it affected everyone in my family,” she said. “Some of my relatives were even kind of shy to associate with me at the time.”

She explained that she understood their reaction, given how intense the ridicule was.

“Imagine they take your face, edit it to make you look like an old woman, and start mocking and laughing at you. They even said I wasn’t talented enough. It was crazy. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, but it built me,” Wendy added.

Despite the challenges, she said she always had people who believed in her and supported her music. Since joining the industry, she has won several awards, including honours at the 3Music Awards and the Ghana Music Awards.

Tracy, a pupil of Ridoana Comprehensive School in Ashaiman, captured hearts online when a 30-second video of her passionately singing and dancing to the hit song surfaced on April 3, 2025.

While many praised her enthusiasm and talent, some critics questioned her attire and expressions, deeming them inappropriate for a child.

“About a week ago, I came here to this school to perform, and during my performance, there was this talented, beautiful, shining star—Tracy—dancing and singing passionately to my song ‘Too Late.’ The video went viral and is still trending. Wendy Shay struggles to mention top 5 musicians in Ghana http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-struggles-to-mention-top-5-musicians-in-ghana/ Fri, 15 Mar 2024 11:35:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2369293 Self-acclaimed queen of Ghana music, Wendy Shay, was left speechless when asked in an interview to mention five top Ghanaian musicians whose crafts she appreciates.

In an interview on Accra FM where she had gone to promote her latest song, Wendy opined that collectively, Ghanaian music is struggling to meet international standards.

However, she stated that individually, some artistes have contributed their quota to make the industry vibrant.

Asked to mention just 5 of such top artistes and songs currently dominating the airwaves, Wendy was left biting her tongue.

This, she said is because music topping trends and charts are just monetary investments, and not a measure of hard work.

Wendy elaborated that it takes money, influence and connections to top charts, hence using that criteria to select top artistes is flawed.

Nonetheless, she subtly hinted that she enjoys Safo Newman’s song.

Wendy Shay is also impressed with the talents of the new crop of artistes striving to reach the top.

In a candid interview, the “Uber Driver” hitmaker disclosed that she has reached a breaking point and made the difficult decision to stop reading comments on her social media posts.

The barrage of negative remarks, insults, and derogatory messages and death threats directed at her has deeply affected her self-esteem and emotional well-being.

Despite her success in the music industry, Shay has become a frequent target of online trolls and critics who attack her appearance, talent, and personal life.

Despite the hurtful nature of these attacks, she opted not to report them to the police, explaining that they are the price to pay for being in showbiz.

“I don’t read comments anymore, my managers do that for me. They read and give me feedback on any necessary information. Just once in a while, I go through my socials, other than that, it is a conscious effort to block out the trolls. You know people create accounts just to bully me. I don’t report them because it is difficult to track a faceless person and find them”.

In the interview with Hitz FM, Monday, Wendy added that the cyberbullying has not only affected her mental health but has also caused her to miss out on important deals and gigs.

She recounted how she had a potential opportunity with Thriller, but missed out on it as she did not see the direct message on time.

Nonetheless, she remains resilient and determined to overcome the negativity, urging her fans and followers to spread love and kindness instead of hate.

They wanted to kill me and blame Bullet – Wendy gives more details on fatal accident [Video] http://34.58.148.58/they-wanted-to-kill-me-and-blame-bullet-wendy-gives-more-details-on-fatal-accident-video/ Thu, 28 Sep 2023 12:41:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2299282 Afrobeats and highlife musician, Wendy Shay has shared chilling details of her recent near-fatal accident that saw her being rushed from Ghana to a hospital in Germany for treatment.

Known for her chart-topping hits, Wendy Shay was in a near-death situation after advising young talents to seek spiritual backing to help them succeed in the competitive world of entertainment.

However, just days after this advice, the singer’s Jeep Wrangler collided with a tipper truck loaded with stones in Accra, an incident she describes as a deliberate spiritual attack.

Speaking about her harrowing experience on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz show, Wendy Shay said the accident was not just tragic but a deliberate attempt on her life.

“Some people wanted to kill me so they could blame my manager, Bullet. The accident I had was serious but it’s funny because those who wanted to kill me know themselves” she stated.

On why she thinks the accident was a spiritual attack, Wendy Shay said the tipper truck mangled behind repairs but she miraculously survived.

“The tipper truck rather somersaulted and got condemned, and I feel like it was more of a David and Goliath fight. It was loaded with rocks, that is how serious it was. Thank God, here I am” she cried.

When the show host tried to convince her that the accident could have been a mechanical fault, Wendy Shay still maintained her stance.

“I am very logical and diplomatic and I like to weigh things. I know what I am talking about. I have not checked with any deity but what I can say is that they know themselves. I am not going to mention their names or say anything, but they know themselves. I do not get scared because I am a child of God. You cannot kill me until God says it’s time,” she said confidently.

As the investigation into the accident continues, Wendy Shay remains resolute and is now focusing on her recovery and her passion for music.

She is currently promoting her new song “Love Me Now”.

Wendy Shay involved in car accident on Kwabenya road  http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-involved-in-car-accident-on-kwabenya-road/ Sun, 10 Sep 2023 10:31:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2292472 Singer Wendy Shay has been involved in a car accident.

A UTV news report indicates that the accident happened on Saturday night on the Kwabenya road in Accra.

Wendy’s Jeep Wrangler vehicle with the registration number plate, SHAY 21-19 is seen with a mangled front side in a video shared by the television station.

Reports say Wendy’s car collided with a tipper truck loaded with sand.

In a live account of the incident on UTV’s ‘United Showbiz’, the Deputy News Editor of the station, Prince Obimpeh who chanced on the scene said Wendy Shay had complained of a severe headache at the moment.

“You are aware that the stretch of road between the ACP Junction and Kwabenya is typically clear at night, thus despite the presence of police, cars are frequently travelling at top speed.

“Coming out of the valley, not far from the KNUST Accra Campus Junction, I noticed a group of people gathering around a car,” he narrated.

He added that he decided to park and check out what had happened.

“I saw a woman in dreadlocks who looked like Wendy Shay getting out of a car. When I got closer, I noticed that it was Wendy Shay. The number plate of her Wrangler is customised with her name,” he further noted.

The reporter said he got closer and asked a few question but Wendy looked restless and had complained of severe pain in the head; she had hit her head on the dashboard.

I won’t give up music for marriage – Wendy Shay http://34.58.148.58/i-wont-give-up-music-for-marriage-wendy-shay/ Fri, 08 Sep 2023 12:05:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2292090 Unlike some female creatives who have left the space due to marriage, Ghanaian artiste Wendy Shay says she will not abandon her music career under such circumstance.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces, Wendy indicated any man who wants to marry her needs to align with her music aspirations because music is what makes her relevant in the world.

“I am not even thinking about marriage, because you know music is my destiny and that is what makes me relevant in this life and so I don’t think that I will trade something like that for marriage,” she said.

“You should be in alignment with my destiny. If it’s just lovey-dovey and you just loving me and taking care of me, I don’t think that is enough for me to give you attention,” she added.

A lot of female creatives have quit their jobs for other careers after getting married and building families.

For most of them, combining family tasks and the drudgery of their creative careers is too herculean to contend with. They would rather want to save their marriages and cater for their families.

Wendy Shay is currently out with two new songs: ‘Every Man Cheats’ and ‘Heartless’ which seeks to empower women against the wiles of men.

Get spiritual backing; hard work not enough – Wendy Shay to artistes  http://34.58.148.58/get-spiritual-backing-hard-work-not-enough-wendy-shay-to-artistes/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 15:25:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2291840 RuffTown Records signee, Wendy Shay, has advised creatives to get spiritual backing to be able to excel in the industry.

According to her, talent is not enough; it takes faith in one’s object of worship to complement their hard work.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces on the success stories and challenges of women in showbiz, Wendy mentioned that no artiste can get to the top without spiritual fortification.

“Every artiste you have seen on top is not doing what they are doing carnally. I go by the mantra ‘work hard and have faith.’ Hard work goes hand in hand with faith.

After working hard, going to the studio, recording songs, doing whatever you do, you should also seek for [sic] spiritual back-ups. None of us do what we do carnally. It is either you are in the light or you are in the darkness. This is what a lot of underground musicians don’t know. It is either you believe in God or Jesus Christ or whatever you believe in, to order your steps for you. I mean, if you do it with your natural strength, you’ll get tired and discouraged,” she intimated.

Wendy Shay who is currently out with ‘Every Man Cheats’ and ‘Heartless’ recently said in an interview on TV3 that she had a lot of spiritual attacks when she stepped the threshold of the music industry.

“Music is a spiritual journey; it has profoundly shaped the woman I am today. It has made me more attuned to the spiritual dimensions of life and the intricacies of the industry I belong to. Growing up in Germany, I never experienced anything like this, but upon coming to Ghana, I had to embrace the spiritual aspect,” she said.

After five years of being in the music industry, Wendy has chalked a lot of successes, won topmost awards, topped international charts despite scathing criticism of some of her actions.

She also said on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces show, Joy Entertainment Unpacked that, in spite of challenges she has faced as a woman in the music industry, she is bent of scratching her full potential.

‘Every Man Cheats’ – Wendy Shay sparks controversy with new song; male celebs react http://34.58.148.58/every-man-cheats-wendy-shay-sparks-controversy-with-new-song-male-celebs-react/ Fri, 01 Sep 2023 16:24:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2289707 Self-acclaimed queen of Ghana music, Wendy Shay, is gearing up to take over the airwaves with another banger that has already sparked controversy.

Ahead of the official release, Wendy teased fans with a snippet of the song, and it’s safe to say that it didn’t go unnoticed.

In the song snippet, Wendy Shay sang about how all men are unrepentant cheats who constantly jump from one woman to another.

She encouraged women to prioritise themselves and not invest too much effort in pleasing men, as men will pursue whoever they want regardless.

According to her, men’s insatiable desire mean they cannot be tied down by physical attributes or other factors.

Wendy Shay’s assertion that “every man cheats” has drawn mixed reactions from male celebrities, including Okyeame Kwame and D-Black.

While they agree that no one is perfect, they believe the claim that all men cheat is an oversimplification.

The controversial lyrics have ignited a debate among fans and the entertainment industry, with some supporting Wendy Shay’s perspective and others challenging it.

Let us breathe – Wendy Shay charges at Ghanaians over 02 concert, Grammys http://34.58.148.58/let-us-breathe-wendy-shay-charges-at-ghanaians-over-02-concert-grammys/ Tue, 29 Aug 2023 16:27:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2288645 Songstress Wendy Shay has passionately spoken out against the prevailing trend in Ghana, where many judge an artist’s success solely by their ability to fill the O2 Arena and secure a Grammy award.

As the self-proclaimed Queen of Ghana music, she has called upon her fellow countrymen to reconsider this mindset and allow Ghanaian musicians to define and celebrate success on their own terms.

Wendy Shay has raised thought-provoking questions about why filling the O2 Arena and clinching a Grammy award have become the exclusive yardsticks for measuring an artist’s achievements.

In making her point, she has highlighted the examples of iconic musicians such as Bob Marley and 2Pac, who achieved remarkable success and left a lasting impact on the music industry without ever winning a Grammy.

By encouraging a shift in perspective, Wendy Shay aims to foster a more inclusive and diverse understanding of success within the Ghanaian music scene.

She believes that success should be multifaceted and reflect the unique journeys and contributions of Ghanaian artists, rather than being confined to external validations like filling a prestigious venue or receiving a specific award.

However, some artistes including Amerado and Fameye have seconded Wendy that the focus is to feed home and fully utilize their talents, not to pull numbers for their concerts.

In her epic response, she emphasised that it is unfair to compare two different talented artistes, and each of them should be appreciated for their own unique style and sound.

The comparisons between Wendy Shay and Gyakie have since been a subject of debate among music fans and critics in Ghana.

While both artistes have achieved significant success in the music industry, Ghanaians are of the opinion Gyakie is outshining Wendy Shay on the international front.

Reacting to this in an interview on TV3 monitored by Adomonline.com, Shay said they have distinct musical styles and approaches to their craft, hence there’s no need for comparison.

“It’s not fair to even compare. You know, I have been doing and giving hit back to back for five years so there shouldn’t be any comparison. I am an international artiste as well and I am working towards it to become a global artiste. The race is not for the swift; once you’re working hard and working on yourself, you are going to get wherever you put your mind to.”

She expressed her belief that every artiste should be allowed to shine and be celebrated for their individual talents.

The ‘Survivor’ hitmaker further stressed that comparisons can sometimes be discouraging for artistes and may hinder their creative growth. Instead, she called for unity among music lovers.

Wendy Shay concerned about excessive import duties; urges Akufo-Addo to take action http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-concerned-about-excessive-import-duties-urges-akufo-addo-to-take-action/ Mon, 03 Jul 2023 16:35:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2267634 Rufftown singer Wendy Shay has passionately reached out to President Nana Akufo-Addo, expressing her worry over the steep import duties imposed on vehicles and urging the government to take prompt action.

In a recent tweet, she highlighted the heavy financial strain that Ghanaians face when importing cars due to exorbitant duty fees.

Despite affordable prices abroad, the excessive duties inflate the final cost, making car ownership an arduous task for many citizens.

To illustrate her point, Wendy Shay provided a specific instance, mentioning a car bought in the US for $35,000 (equivalent to 397,707.10 Cedis) with an accompanying duty fee of $30,000 USD (equivalent to 340,891.80 Cedis).

Wendy’s post

She appealed to President Akufo-Addo, requesting him to take necessary steps.

The issue of exorbitant import duties on cars has long been a concern for individuals and businesses in Ghana.

These high tariffs not only make vehicle ownership unaffordable for many middle-class families but also hinder the growth of the domestic automobile industry.

Wendy Shay’s impassioned plea has sparked a vital conversation, shedding light on the need to address and resolve this pressing issue.

Why Wendy Shay was absent on VGMA night http://34.58.148.58/why-wendy-shay-was-absent-on-vgma-night/ Wed, 10 May 2023 12:03:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2247712 The 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) came off over the weekend; as amazing as the show was, there was an obvious missing link.

The absence of self-acclaimed Queen of Ghana Music, Wendy Shay, took some delight from the show, leaving questions about her whereabouts.

Year in year out, Wendy brings some heat to the stage with her beautiful performances or fashion choice, which the audiences were denied this year.

The reason for her absence, according to her team member Nana Reagan is that she was out of the country chasing her dreams of being an international artiste.

He revealed she had flown out a couple of days before the awards night as duty demands.

Asked if Wendy retreated because she knew she would keep a ‘clean sheet’ of several nominations with no award, Regan said she could not be bothered about the turnout of events.

He further stated that her work under the year in review is testimony of her singing prowess.

Nana Reagan opined that Wendy is not disappointed because her Shay brand is not solely focused on awards since the vision is to promote her craft.

Wendy Shay launches search for fans who climbed trees to watch her perform [Video] http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-launches-search-for-fans-who-climbed-trees-to-watch-her-perform-video/ Thu, 19 Jan 2023 09:29:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2206129 Self-acclaimed Queen of Ghana music, Wendy Shay, is appreciative of her fans who went the extreme to watch her perform at the just ended Shay Concert.

Like the era of Jesus Christ, Wendy Shay, found her own Zacchaeuses in the form of about five fans who climbed on tree tops just to catch a glimpse of their favourite artiste.

Reviewing the footages exactly a week after the concert rocked the forecourt of the West Hills Malls, Wendy spotted the group out of the thousands who attended the show.

The shirtless fans were clinging out to some weak branches of a tall tree situated in the hearts of the venue, while waving their shirts, as though to command attention to them.

Without fearing for the worst, the special fans were hyper and jamming to the performance, even more than the multitude.

In reaction, Wendy Shay stated in an Instagram post that she has taken notice of their actions and would want to meet them.

She has launched a search to unveil the identities of the fans and bless them accordingly.

Wendy Shay tops Boomplay charts as Most Streamed Female Artiste in 2022 http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-tops-boomplay-charts-as-most-streamed-female-artiste-in-2022/ Mon, 19 Dec 2022 10:28:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2197081 Wendy Shay has yet again defiled the odds to become Boomplay’s most-streamed female Artiste for 2022.

Earlier in the year, when Boomplay released its mid-year stats for streams, the Rufftown Records signed musician was the only female Ghanaian artiste who featured on Boomplay’s Top 10 out of their weekly Top 100 songs.

Wendy Shay’s ‘Survivor’ at the time came right on top of Black Sheirf’s ‘Kwaku The Traveller’, which placed tenth on the charts.

After the feat achieved by Wendy Shay for the mid-year, it does not come as a surprise that she is ending the year 2022 as the most streamed female artiste.

She beats the likes of Gyakie and Diana Hamilton, who were second and third respectively as she walked home with this big honor.

Wendy Shay’s ‘Survivor’, which is a self-affirming story of how to pick up pieces shattered after a major heartbreak is one of the songs that greatly helped her to achieve this feat.

Also, the release of her ‘Enigma EP’, which has the viral ‘Habibi’ song has gone a long way to help the award-winning singer to go home with bragging rights as one of the artistes who has got her songs streamed a lot in 2022.

There is no doubt that this is a record the singer would want to keep and be better in 2023.

Wendy Asiamah Addo entered the musical scene in a turbulent time. Her grit and resilience over the years have manifested in her delivery of relatable hit songs.

Wendy Shay finally drops thrilling EP, Enigma [Listen] http://34.58.148.58/wendy-shay-finally-drops-thrilling-ep-enigma-listen/ Fri, 11 Nov 2022 13:55:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2182741 Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay continues to cement her music prowess with her latest extended play, Enigma.

The seven-track playlist, which was released on November 11, comprises Afro-Highlife sounds winded with rhythmic flows that project the Rufftown singer’s soothing voice.

Wendy has been vibrant since her inception in the music space and ‘Enigma’, which has no features, touches on Wendy Shay’s versatility when it comes to music composure and arrangement.

Critics have toned down on her music ghostwriting allegation after the singer rubbished perceptions that most of her songs are written by her manager, Bullet.

Interestingly, music lovers had the hunch Wendy Shay would include her two hot singles, Survivor and Warning to the Enigma album, but they didn’t make it to the list.

My best friend snatched my lover – Wendy Shay http://34.58.148.58/my-best-friend-snatched-my-lover-wendy-shay/ Mon, 19 Sep 2022 13:17:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2164054 Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has proved with her past two singles that she is actually suffering from a broken heart.

The songstress earlier dropped ‘Survivor’, a jam that many thought was literal, but her recent ‘Warning’ song cements that fact that she is actually talking to two people.

The first song may have been dedicated to her previous boyfriend and the latter goes for her best friend who snatched her man.

The broken heart situation may have birthed the ‘Survivor’ song, as Wendy Shay struggled through a hard time to believe what she went through.

Her choice of lyrics in the songs aren’t the typical Wendy, who would play around words or rhyme to close the chapter.

Taking to social media to outdoor the second song, Warning, she had a confession to make, thus:

“It’s hard for hard-working women to get genuine love. While I was on the road chasing my passion my so-called best friend was also chasing my man, and now they are together
So ShayGang excuse me for my language, this song is very personal,” she posted.

Meanwhile, Wendy Shay is set to drop her Enigma EP on October 21, 2022.
