The 21-year-old, who is preparing for a crucial Europa League clash against Italian side Lazio, believes his performances in European football will soon secure him another opportunity with the national team.

In an interview with Flashscore, Adu reflected on his brief experience with the Black Stars four years ago.

“In 2020, I was called to the Black Stars and joined the camp as a late call-up. Later, I had to leave because the coach explained that the player I was replacing had decided to honor the call-up. I was told to go back, and if another slot opened up, they would call me again,” he recounted.

Rather than feeling discouraged, Adu took pride in the experience.

“I was still proud because I was selected out of so many players to represent the country. It was a good step for me, and if I get another call-up in the future, I will be ready. I am working hard for that,” he added.

Adu also missed out on the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining an injury in his final Ghana Premier League match before departing for the tournament with the Black Satellites.

While playing for Bechem United against Berekum Chelsea, he landed awkwardly while contesting an aerial ball. What initially seemed like a minor injury turned out to be serious, forcing him to miss the competition in Mauritania.

Since then, the former Bechem United striker has rebuilt his career and is currently thriving at Plzeň, where he has scored 10 goals this season.

The result lifts Ruben Amorim’s side into the top eight positions that would automatically see them qualify for the last 16 of the competition.

Hojlund has now scored five times in the competition this term and sparked a United revival after his second-half introduction.

The 21-year-old forward levelled after some good link-up play from Antony and Amad Diallo, prodding in from close range when the Ivorian’s initial effort was blocked.

And the Denmark international then drove a low shot into the bottom-right corner after sprinting on to Bruno Fernandes’ clever pass.

Hojlund’s intervention spared the blushes of team-mate Andre Onana, with the United goalkeeper making a significant blunder for the second consecutive game that contributed to a goal.

There seemed little danger when the Cameroon keeper had the ball at his feet in his own penalty area but his attempt to pass out to Matthijs de Ligt was intercepted by Pavel Sulc, who squared the ball to Matej Vydra to allow the former Watford and Burnley forward to tap into an empty net from six yards.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring sliding in on the line after Ansu Fati’s effort crawled under Jindrich Stanek and then, although initially given offside, Torres netted a second just before half time steering home after Jordi Alba headed Raphinia’s ball to him.

Pablo Torre, on his debut, barged over Tomas Chory who got up to send another debutant Inaki Pena the wrong way from the spot to pull a goal back, but soon afterwards Torres had his second after neat exchange of passes with Raphinia.

Chory scored another with a powerful header from Adam Vlkanova’s cross but Barcelona had the last word with Torre smashing into the net after a through-ball from Raphinia.

The win leaves Barcelona on seven points and Plzen with six defeats, with their finishing positions of third and fourth in Group C established before this match.

The German champions, who won the same fixture 5-0 in Munich last week, have now progressed to the last 16 and need one point from their remaining two games to top the group.

It took Bayern just three minutes to go in front, Sadio Mane lifting home adroitly, and further simple yet accomplished finishes from Thomas Muller and Leon Goretzka, who got two, ended the game as a contest in short order.

As Bayern eased off, Plzen improved, scoring two second-half goals to make the scoreline look respectable.

But the difference between the sides was and is chasmic, and no one will want to draw the Bavarians in the last 16, which will be the least of their ambitions; if Julian Nagelsmann can find his best team and system, his team have every chance of winning this competition.

Sane opened the scoring after seven minutes, exchanging passes with Jamal Musiala before dribbling to the edge of the penalty area and launching an unstoppable rocket.

Serge Gnabry made it two before the quarter-hour mark when he coolly finished after Leon Goretzka had played him through.

Midway though the half it was three when Sadio Mane found his way through the opposing defence before driving home.

The goal of the game came five minutes into the second half when Mane found Sane with a diagonal ball from the left flank and the former Manchester City man took it down perfectly before slamming home for his fourth in the competition this year.

Substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting made it five before an hour was on the clock when he latched onto another Goretzka assist.

With nine points from three games, Bayern seem likely to all but seal their path through to the knockout stages when they play the same opposition next week.
