The teenager has fled her home at Anfoeta-Wadamaxe in the Ho West District of the Volta Region because of a feud between the families of her mother and stepfather even though her mother still lives with her stepfather.

The first-year Junior High School (JHS) student is now living with her 80-year-old maternal grandmother in the community.

The Ho West District Director of Social Welfare, Mr Roland Kumfo told The Mirror on Monday, July 22 this year that the baby was born on April 9, this year.

He said the girl’s stepfather, a farmer, whose name was being withheld to protect the identity of the girl, had admitted impregnating his stepdaughter but refused to cater for the baby and his mother.

Mr Kumfo said the farmer had also refused an invitation from the Department of Social Welfare to discuss the matter and set up an interim arrangement to cater for the young mother and her child.

He said when contacted on the phone, the farmer said he would never come to the office of the department to answer any question.

The farmer had also refused to appear before the Paramount Chief of Anfoeta, Togbe Kwesi Drah VII and his elders who summoned him over his conduct, Mr Kumfo added.

It is an offence in all Ewe communities for a man to have carnal knowledge of any woman related to his wife by blood.

In any such case, hefty fines are imposed on the man and rites are performed to pacify the gods of the land.

Girl, 16, dies in labour at native nurse’s home  http://34.58.148.58/girl-16-dies-in-labour-at-native-nurses-home/ Tue, 22 Nov 2022 08:55:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2186568 A 16-year-old girl has died while in labour at a native nurse’s house at New Ebu in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District of the Central Region.

Information gathered indicates that the grandmother of the deceased due to lack of money sent the girl to a native nurse in the community for delivery and in the process, she bled profusely and died.

The native nurse managed to deliver the baby but unfortunately, the teenage mother passed on.

The incident has thrown residents into a big State of shock.

Speaking in an interview some residents blamed the girl’s death on the lack of a health facility equipped with a Maternity ward and a qualified midwife in the community.

They said the absence of a health facility has put fear in many women and scared them from getting pregnant as they fear they will die during labour.

They said only a few pregnant women who have money are able to travel all the way from New Ebu to Abura Dunkwa or Cape Coast Teaching Hospital to deliver.

They, therefore, appealed to the government, the Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese Constituency Hon. Elvis Morris Donkor, the District Chief Executive and other private individuals to support the community to get a maternity ward and a CHIP Compound to ensure safe delivery.

Meanwhile, the Founder of Global Peace Mission and Chief Executive Officer for the Center of Awareness, Dr Samuel Ato Duncan promised to support the community to build a modern Maternity ward to attend to pregnant women.

He urged the residents to support the community by undertaking communal labour to assist. He donated an amount of eleven thousand Ghana cedis to support the project

Lastly, the Gyaasehen of New Ebu, Nana Aseidu Bofo IX on behalf of the Chiefs of the Community said, all attempts for the Chiefs to draw the attention of the authorities to their establishment of the maternity ward in the community proved futile.
