Speaking at a press conference in Duayaw Nkwanta on behalf of all 37 assembly members, Presiding Member Michael Boakye highlighted that this is the first time in the country’s history that assembly members are receiving regular monthly allowances.

He explained that the support will enable them to work more efficiently and promote development in their communities.

Boakye noted that the lack of allowances in the past made it difficult for assembly members to address even minor challenges in their constituencies.

Other assembly members, including Eric Acheampong and Collins Takyi, added that the allowances would reduce their reliance on the assembly for small-scale community projects.

They emphasized that the funds would also empower committee members to carry out thorough monitoring of local development projects.

The presentation ceremony, held at Tanoso, was attended by traditional leaders, officials from the Ghana Education Service, parents, students, and other stakeholders.

Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Boako explained that many parents in the constituency struggle to pay fees for their children in tertiary institutions, including universities, nursing training colleges, and colleges of education, a situation that often affects students’ academic performance.

He said the decision to support the students was made after he resolved to use part of his Common Fund to ease the financial burden on parents and students. According to Dr. Boako, none of the applicants was left out, as he understands the challenges students face when fees are not paid on time.

The MP noted that the initiative, dubbed the “MP’s Scholarship,” is a long-term intervention that will be sustained throughout his tenure to help address the fee-paying challenges confronting tertiary students in the constituency.

Some beneficiaries, including Amankwah Ernestina of Saint Joseph College of Education, Kaisia Nyarko Otchere of Akenten Appiah-Menka University, and Karikari Nyantakyi Josephine of Sunyani Technical University, expressed gratitude to the MP for the support.

They said delays in fee payment often cause frustration and affect their studies, describing the scholarship as a laudable and timely intervention. The students added that the initiative, which is the first of its kind in the constituency, will enable them to focus better on their academic work.

Addressing party members during his first day of campaigning in the Ahafo Region, which also took him to Tano South and Asutifi North, Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation for their continued support and recalled the overwhelming endorsement he received in the 2023 primaries.

“I am excited today. I know I’m always welcomed in Tano North. I want to express my appreciation for the support in 2023. I garnered 84% of the votes. In the same vein, I urge you to replicate the support in 2026. This time round, I know that the support will be 90%. A win for me is a win for Tano North,” he said to enthusiastic applause from delegates.

His message during the Ahafo tour reaffirmed his broader campaign theme — one built on continuity, inclusiveness, and innovation.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated that his development agenda places strong emphasis on private sector involvement as a driver of national growth.

According to him, private investment will play a key role in addressing Ghana’s road infrastructure challenges while government focuses on community linkages through feeder and inter-town roads.

He also underscored his commitment to grassroots participation in governance, promising to empower local communities and ensure their priorities influence national decision-making.

Presenting himself as a unifier, Dr. Bawumia once again assured party members of his intention to bridge internal divisions within the NPP. He maintained that party unity will be vital to securing a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.

His visit to the Ahafo Region marks the third leg of his nationwide campaign to consolidate support across the party’s base as he seeks to lead the NPP into the next election.

Evidence gathered by JoyNews has exposed extreme pollution of the Rivers Bisi and Subri, both tributaries of the Tano River, despite denials by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano North, Pious Opoku.

Following a JoyNews exposé of illegal mining at Adrobaa Bisi, a small farming community that hosts these water bodies, the MCE led chiefs upstream to declare that there were no mining activities in the area.

But a JoyNews follow-up captured footage of Chinese miners and their Ghanaian collaborators engaged in galamsey operations along the River Bisi.

The activities have left residents, mostly peasant farmers, angry and desperate.

They complain that the pollution has denied them access to clean water for farming and daily use.

The operations not only threaten livelihoods but also constitute a direct violation of the government’s buffer zone policy and its recent declaration of waterbodies and forests as security zones.

The spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said his victory has taught him the need for politicians to resort to clean campaign.

“I would have lost the elections if it was about propaganda because each day came with its own challenges and the people who I was campaigning to advised me not to respond that was why I stayed away from media engagements during the period.

“I engaged in one of the most decent campaigns devoid of name calling or insult and this show that delegates are discerning and know they look out for,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Dr Boako polled 444 votes as against 221 gathered by the Sanitation Minister, Freda Prempeh on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Madam Prempeh had absolute trust in delegates retaining her based on her works in the constituency.

Reacting to the outcome, Dr Boako described it as overwhelming and expressed appreciation to the constituents for believing in him.

“It is my first attempt and they have honoured me. The votes and the margin was an overwhelming endorsement. I appreciate the people for the support and repose of confidence,” he added.

The Minister of Sanitation and Water was seeking re-election to serve her fourth term as MP but the dream was cut short.

She lost the parliamentary primary on January 27 to Dr Gideon Boako, the spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr Boako polled 444 votes against 221 gathered by the incumbent MP.

But Prempeh has said defeat cannot be ruled out of any election.

“When you go into an election, you either win or lose; you cannot break even. You psych yourself to win but if it doesn’t happen that way, you respect the verdict of the people

“They say fear delegates but I always say trust delegates because I trust their judgment. I will continue to serve the good people of Tano North,” she told journalists at a ceremony.

Despite this outcome, the MP says she remains resolute and committed to serve the NPP to ensure they break the eight.

The economist is lacing his boots to come against the incumbent New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament in the Tano North Constituency in the party’s primary slated for Saturday, January 27, 2024.

There have been suggestions he will have an upper hand in the race due to his association with the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

But speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, Dr Gideon Boako said he has been funding his campaign with the help of friends and family and has not received financial or other support from the Vice President.

Asked whether the Vice President had spoken to delegates to vote for him, he said, “The Vice President wouldn’t do that for any reason. He knows I am contesting just as any other person I had to inform and talk to, he’s aware. But I am doing my campaign on my own. I am running a very decent and frugal campaign, and so I don’t think I have been lacking to depend on resources from the government or my office.”

When the host, Evans Mensah asked if he had received any financial assistance from the Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Gideon Boako said, “I have not received any resources of that nature yet, and so in everything I do I try to talk to a few friends, I try to talk to people who can help me, my resources that I have put together and sometimes some family help.

According to him, he has run an open campaign with the funding he’s received so far for his activities.

And everybody who gives me anything I put it out. When I was going to file my nomination, there were some childhood friends of mine and some medical doctors who paid it for me. When I finished everything, a cousin of mine in the US openly came out and gave me some money.”

Other people raised money, in my hometown they did a dinner and raised money for me. I haven’t spent so much since I started the campaign, to be honest with you. I don’t know what will happen on Saturday, they say D-day operation and whatever, but I haven’t been able to put things together yet” he noted.

In recent time, the campaign team of the Member of Parliament for Tano North, Freda Prempeh debunked a supposed survey conducted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

The findings of the survey in question projected the Spokesperson of the Vice President, Dr Gideon Boako, as the favorite in the upcoming primary in the constituency.

A statement signed by the Campaign Coordinator of Freda Prempeh, Appiah Dankwa Prince indicated that the delegates have denied taking part in any poll pertaining to the primaries.

“Delegates deny being approached for such an investigation, undermining the credibility of the alleged findings”, it stated.

The statement also expressed dissatisfaction at the desperate attempt by their opponent’s team to use deliberate means to “manipulate public perception and compromise the integrity of the upcoming primaries.”

Madam Prempeh’s team indicated that it remains resolute in working to garner the majority of the votes, as the delegates have exhibited confidence in their candidate.

Nearly 700 delegates will cast their votes in the primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 27.

My candidacy to preserve Tano North for NPP – Gideon Boako declares intention to contest NPP primaries http://34.58.148.58/my-candidacy-to-preserve-tano-norh-for-npp-gideon-boako-declares-intention-to-contest-npp-primaries/ Thu, 21 Dec 2023 08:42:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2335181 Dr Gideon Boako, the spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced his bid for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Tano North constituency.

The decision, he said was influenced by calls from delegates, opinion leaders and aims to prevent the seat from falling into the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP currently holds the seat with Sanitation Minister, Freda Prempeh as the Member of Parliament (MP).

However, Dr. Boako said the NPP risk losing the seat over an alleged disconnection between the Freda Prempeh and constituents, asserting his readiness to be the representative the people need.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, December 21, he emphasised his dedicated service to the party both nationally and in the constituency.

“Dear friends, colleagues, and fellow patriots, with deep gratitude and a resolute spirit, I humbly address you today to formally announce my aspiration to serve the good people of Tano North Constituency in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.”

“This decision stems from my enduring commitment to our constituency, driven by your unwavering support and the greater welfare of our people and nation,” an excerpt of his statement said.

NPP executives upset over missing names in party album http://34.58.148.58/npp-executives-upset-over-missing-names-in-party-album/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 07:54:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2270351 About 35 polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tano North Constituency of the Ahafo Region are upset about the removal of their names from the party’s album (certified delegates) without apparent reasons.

As the party’s presidential primary to elect a flagbearer for the election 2024 approaches, the aggrieved executives have appealed to the party’s national leadership to intervene for the right thing to be done, before “The party is torn apart in the constituency.”

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Duayaw-Nkwanla, Joshua Anumba, the Youth Organiser, Boaso CMB Shed Polling Station, and the spokesperson for the aggrieved executives said the anomaly was discovered during the album verification exercise, saying since that lime “constituency executives have been divided”.

Mr Anumba said if the situation was not resolved immediately, it would affect the fortunes of the party in the constituency in the next general election.

He regretted the NPP in the constituency had been characterized by petty squabbles, infighting and internal wrangling since the constituency executives were elected, and prayed the leadership would quickly intervene and resolve whatever “internal impasse.” Mr Anumba said, “Tension within the party in the constituency is mounting and if the right thing is not done, then we should head for doom in the election 2024.”

A list of names of the polling station executives missing in the album and signed by the affected people and made available to GNA comprised Christiana Amponsah, Women Organiser, Buokukuruwa CMB Shed, Jonah Anumbia, Secretary, Akokoammon CMB Shed and Bernard Opoku Fofie, Secretary, Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit Court.

Others are Gladys Asantewaa, Women Organiser, Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit Court, Benjamin Acheampong, Youth Organiser, Apataasu Temp Booth, Mercy Serwaa and Alia Amea, Organiser and Youth Organiser respectively, Koforidua UA Primary School.

The rest were Yaw Boakye, Secretary, Binkyim CMB Shed, Agyenim Boateng, Secretary, Adrobaa New Apostolic, and Thomas Antwi, Organiser, Adrobaa New Apostolic.

When contacted, Mr Janamah Biiyien, the Constituency Vice Chairman confirmed the removal and replacement of some of the polling station executives named in the album but added “I think you have to contact the Constituency Chairman.”

“In fact, some of the names of the Polling Station executives have been replaced and the right person you can talk to is the constituency chairman because I wasn’t engaged in that process,” he added.

Efforts to contact Mr Karikari Agyemang, the Constituency Chairman were, however, unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Dr Freda Prempeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North has officially written to the national leadership of the party to act urgently to resolve the matter.

A copy of the letter signed by the MP and made available to the GNA said “I write to inform you of the removal of the names of 35 persons from the list of the certified delegates in the Tano North constituency of the Ahafo Region.”

“This anomaly was detected during the album verification exercise. Again, five polling station executives being appointed to the constituency, have also been replaced which is against party directives,” it added.

Copies of the letter sent to the NPP National Chairman, and the Ahafo Regional Executive appealed to the leadership to investigate “The complaint and have the names of the affected persons inserted in the album” to restore peace for the good of the party.”

I can’t reverse polling station election results – Tano North MP http://34.58.148.58/i-cant-reverse-polling-station-election-results-tano-north-mp/ Tue, 15 Mar 2022 21:32:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2091295 The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North, Freda Akosua Prempeh, has dismissed allegations by the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that she intends to reverse results of the polling station elections held in the Constituency.

The youth wing claimed that Mrs. Freda Akosua Prempeh, while on a media tour in Ahafo, said she does not recognise the outcome of the elections which was chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Osei Boahen.

But speaking to JoyNews, the MP said there has not been any election held in the Constituency by the nine-member committee mandated by the party to organise polling station elections in the constituency.

“Which election are they talking about? A number of which polling station elections organised by who? The party doesn’t even know what they are talking about, because there is a procedure, there is a process, there’s a committee in place so if he knows what he’s talking about, he should refer it to the committee. I don’t know which elections he’s talking about, which one is he talking about?” she quizzed.

She said the aggrieved group can channel their grievances to the party’s headquarters.

“To the best of my knowledge there hasn’t been any elections by the committee. The nine-member committee is there, so if they have any grievances they should channel it to the appropriate quarters,” she added.

Meanwhile, at a press conference on Friday, spokesperson for the youth, Gloria Kwartemaa Amponsah, stressed that a majority of the party faithful are in support of the elections conducted, adding that any attempt to re-run or discredit it would be resisted.

“In their capacity as members of the party who followed the process from its beginning to the end, the official polling station elections have been held in the Tano North Constituency and competent executives have been elected.

“We cannot, and do not want to engage in media banter with our Hon. MP, but we want to state categorically that all that she wants the whole world to hear and sympathize with her are false and a figment of her imagination,” she said.

The NPP’s constituency elections have been fraught with pockets of violence and disturbances while some party members have accused their constituency executives of interfering with the electoral processes.

Currently, some party members in New Juaben North and Sunyani East have petitioned the court to seek an injunction on their respective polling station elections.

The General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, has urged party supporters to use laid down mechanisms to resolve their grievances.

He has warned that those who resort to violence and other anti-party behaviour will be expelled from the party.

NPP polling station elections: Bawumia’s aide fingered in Tano North confusion http://34.58.148.58/npp-polling-station-elections-bawumias-aide-fingered-in-tano-north-confusion/ Wed, 09 Mar 2022 23:22:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2089357 Member of Parliament for Tano North constituency in the Ahafo region, Freda Prempeh, is pointing accusing fingers at aide of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of skimming to snatch the seat.

She claimed Dr Gideon Boako is influencing the ongoing polling station elections to give him an advantage in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Some aggrieved NPP supporters in Tano North had secured an injunction on the polling station elections.

However, the bailiff from the Sunyani High Court was nearly lynched by some thugs at Bomaa, where the election was about to take place.

This incident nearly marred the process and aide to Vice President, Dr Boako was accused of being behind the pandemonium.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, madam Prempeh said Dr Boako cannot absorb himself from blame.

She alleged that, the people who tried to stop the elections are his supporters who have vowed to ensure she loses the primaries.

Madam Prempeh, who is also a Minister of State at the Presidency, said she has lodged an official complaint to the party about the anti-party conduct of Dr Boako.

The Tano North MP could not fathom why someone seeking to unseat her has resolved not to follow due process.

“All I want is for everyone to follow due process. We all want to serve our party so no one should jump the gun,” she added.

In a rebuttal, Dr Boako expressed shock at the allegations being level against him by the MP.

According to him, he was not in the constituency to supervise the polling station election, thus, accusing him of being behind the confusion is disingenuous.

Dr Boako urged madam Prempeh to quit the media war and lodge a formal complaint for redress.

“These accusations are becoming one too many; it’s not right. Report me to the party or government I will go and make my case,” he bemoaned.
