The incident, involving the placement of human excreta (faeces) and ritualistic cola nuts at the entrances of all three classrooms, triggered widespread panic and health concerns among students and staff.

The shocking scene, discovered early on the morning of November 26, 2025, forced school authorities to suspend classes to ensure the safety of the entire learning environment.

According to a formal report addressed to the Kadjebi District Director of Education, parcels of human excreta wrapped in polythene bags were placed directly in front of the Form One, Form Two, and Form Three classrooms.

Crucially, each vile parcel was surrounded by cola nuts, a symbol often associated with oaths or traditional undertakings in local customs.

The setup was calculated to prevent entry, making it impossible for students and teachers to access the rooms without stepping over the contaminated substances.

Concerned for the health and safety of learners and staff, school authorities quickly engaged the Assemblyman for the Dzindziso Electoral Area and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman.

Following their assessment, an immediate advisory was issued to send all students home and report the incident to the appropriate security agencies.

Mr. Lukman Hamza, the Assemblyman for the area, confirmed the severity of the act, describing it as: “Shocking and troubling”.

He confirmed that investigations were immediately launched to identify the perpetrators and establish their motives for the malicious act.

The Kadjebi District Director of Education, Mr. Seth Seyram Deh, confirmed the report and the official closure of the school. He stated the closure would remain in effect until the environment is deemed safe for teaching and learning to resume.

More disturbingly, Mr. Deh revealed that the attack is not an isolated incident:

This history fuels the suspicion that the attacks are part of an organised effort to force the school to close permanently. A staff member, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) anonymously, reinforced this fear:

The continuous disruption of education at the JHS level threatens the academic future of children in the area and raises questions about local governance and community cohesion.

Mr. Seth Seyram Deh announced that he and the Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE) would soon hold a meeting with community members to devise measures to prevent future incidents.

Community members, who have expressed deep concern over the latest incident, are urging swift and decisive action to protect the school and ensure the safety of their children.

Authorities have assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency to stabilise the educational environment and apprehend those attempting to undermine public education in the district.

Disruptive mindset from government – Dr. Afriyie on Zipline centres shutdown [Audio] http://34.58.148.58/disruptive-mindset-from-government-dr-afriyie-on-zipline-centres-shutdown-audio/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 08:42:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604039 Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Ayew Afriyie, has expressed serious concern over the closure of three Zipline drone delivery centres, warning that the move could lead to increased deaths due to disruptions in blood supply and emergency medical deliveries.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Afriyie criticised the government for failing to engage the company despite its critical role in the health delivery system.

“This is a disruptive mindset from government. The impact is high, and people are already feeling the effects. The ministry is avoiding engagement with Zipline, and this is not acceptable. The public and the press need to focus on the real impact this has on rural communities” he said.

Dr. Afriyie questioned the rationale behind the decision, suggesting that the government’s visibility work was inadequate.

“What visibility work has the government done to conclude that Zipline cannot operate? When will we progress? Democracy is becoming a cost to us,” he said.

He also challenged claims that the construction of Agenda 111 hospitals justifies the shutdown of the drone centres.

“Saying they are building 111 hospitals is not a good reason. What about urgent emergencies? What power do they have if they keep swinging left and right?”

Highlighting the practical implications of the closure, Dr. Afriyie detailed the areas served by the affected centres:

  • Centre 4 covers the Western North Region and parts of the Western, Central, Bono, Ashanti, and Ahafo Regions.
  • Centre 5, located in Anum, supplies blood-related products, vaccines, and emergency medical items to the Volta Region, parts of the Eastern Region, and the Afram Plains enclave.
  • Centre 6 serves the Oti Region and parts of the Savannah Region.

“With these centres shut down, patients who depend on timely blood and emergency supplies are at great risk. In the next few days, we are likely to see many preventable deaths related to lack of blood supply” he warned.

Dr. Afriyie also expressed empathy for Zipline staff, who have been left frustrated and uninformed.

“I feel for the workers. They have been left in the dark. This is more than a political decision—it will cost lives. Emergency healthcare must not be politicised,” he stressed.

He urged the government to take immediate action, invest in ambulances, and ensure continuity of essential medical services for rural and vulnerable communities.

Public health facilities return to paper-based system as LHIMS shuts down http://34.58.148.58/public-health-facilities-return-to-paper-based-system-as-lhims-shuts-down/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 19:12:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592219 There is frustration in many public health facilities in the Ashanti region as doctors and nurses have returned to taking medical records in folders and exercise books after the electronic health platform for taking medical history broke down for almost a week.

The shutdown is delaying medical care delivery in most facilities, leaving patient’s lives on the line as health workers break their backs to serve their medical needs.

Over the course of the week, major public health facilities have witnessed long winding queues of patients seeking critical care after a digital platform for taking medical records broke down.

The Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS), a web-based software platform, assists in health care delivery and administrative functions.

A visit to some health facilities in the Ashanti region revealed many patients in frustration and anxiety as their lives hung on the thread.

At the Ejisu Government Hospital, patients were seen wielding folders in queue to seek medical attention.

Their healthcare officers buried their heads in the folders to write their medical data
Patients have been left distraught, waiting in the long queues.

“I came here around 7 am and after waiting in long queues I have now been served. If I knew this was the situation, I would have gone to a private facility,” a patient said.

The situation has been similar at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Suntreso Government Hospital.

Health officers reportedly resorted to writing in exercise books, presenting a physical discomfort to the frontline workers and a financial burden on management.

Some facilities confirm losing medical data records of patients since 2023.

Many of them are now desperately seeking alternatives to ease the burden.

Management of the Manhyia Government Hospital after enduring a week of the discomforting situation has found an alternative digital platform.

When the news team visited the facility, it was evident – the long winding queues witnessed previous days had reduced.

For many of these facilities, they urgently want a return to the electronic system.

But until then, they must endure some days of pain to their wrists and fingers while the patients cry for expedited healthcare delivery.

Kumasi to experience water shortage as Ghana Water shuts Barekese plant for three days http://34.58.148.58/kumasi-to-experience-water-shortage-as-ghana-water-shuts-barekese-plant-for-three-days/ Tue, 11 Mar 2025 19:36:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2513777 The Kumasi metropolis is expected to experience an acute water shortage beginning Monday, March 17, 2025, as the Ghana Water Limited in Ashanti region prepares to shut down the Barekese Water Treatment plant.

Management of the water distribution company, in a press release, indicated the planned shutdown is to make way for the installation of new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at the Suame roundabout.

The temporary shutdown, which is expected to last for three days, is part of efforts to improve water supply to the metropolis.

Customers of the water company in the entire Kumasi metropolis, Offinso and adjoining communities will have to seek alternative water sources for their daily chores during the period.

“These communities are therefore urged to bear with us during this period of shutdown,” the statement read.

Other essential service providers, including hospitals and schools in the affected areas, have also been advised to store adequate water for the period.

Acknowledging the inconvenience the exercise may cause, the GWL assured of working diligently to restore water supply to the affected communities within the estimated timeframe.

“This measure is in-line with GWL’s commitment to enhance the water supply capacity from the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to improve water service delivery, and address the supply challenges in the metropolis,” the statement read.

The statement concluded that “Management of GWL deeply regrets the inconvenience that the interruption will cause but pleads with consumers to bear with the situation since the project is meant at improving on the services to the public”.

Korle Bu Renal Unit faces imminent shutdown http://34.58.148.58/korle-bu-renal-unit-faces-imminent-shutdown/ Thu, 15 Feb 2024 23:17:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2356980 The renal dialysis unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is warning of a possible shutdown due to the facility’s inability to raise money to purchase consumables for service delivery.

According to the Head of the Unit, Prof. Vincent Boiman, with every dialysis section, the unit loses GH₵380 which is accumulating as debt.

Prof. Boiman says the situation is now affecting service delivery and may lead to the shutting down of the unit.

Speaking to JoyNews, he said “Each time, we dialyse one person at GH₵380, we lose another  GH₵380  because the actual cost is more than double what the patients are paying now. We are actually incurring costs which is not being paid for.”

“In terms of improving their quality of life, in terms of prolonging their treatment in the long term or giving them a chance of surviving for a long time and good treatment satisfaction. Probably, we may not be able to provide all these things because we are not charging at the rate that will help us to buy the consumables needed.

“For instance, what if this unit closes in the next one or two months because we are running out of consumables and we are dialysing at the rate that we can’t buy enough?.”

On February 9, the Director of Medical Affairs at the KBTH, Dr Owusu Sekyere, said the facility had incurred another debt of GH₵2 million for treating kidney patients.

The police command has asked for strict adherence to this order as they will not entertain any recalcitrant trader.

“Markets are going to close for the disinfection to take place so none of them should try on Monday to come and open shops for sale because we will not allow,” COP Awini cautioned.

Adding his voice, Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan charged the DCEs to rely on the security to ensure compliance of social distance at the various markets in the region.

Traders at the Mankessim market have pledged compliance to allow smooth disinfection of the markets on the condition the markets would be swept on a daily basis after the exercise.

That notwithstanding, they pleaded with the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly to deal with the filth of the market, accusing them of only being interested in market toll whiles they neglect the cleaning of the market.
