NAIMOS officer shot, one assailant killed in Bono Region anti-galamsey operation http://34.58.148.58/naimos-officer-shot-one-assailant-killed-in-bono-region-anti-galamsey-operation/ Wed, 21 Jan 2026 06:26:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2621827 A member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force has been shot during a routine anti-galamsey operation in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in a bush along the Subinkurom–Kyeremasu stretch, where the task force had gone to clamp down on illegal mining activities.

According to NAIMOS, the team came under attack after armed assailants, who were hiding in the bushes, opened fire upon sighting the officers. This triggered an exchange of gunfire between the task force and the attackers.

During the confrontation, one NAIMOS officer sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh. He was immediately rushed to the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital at Ampenkuro, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

In the course of the exchange, one of the assailants who reportedly opened fire on the task force was shot. The deceased, identified as Abuu Ibrahim, was later pronounced dead on arrival at the same hospital.

NAIMOS has condemned the attack and reiterated its commitment to the fight against illegal mining, assuring the public that its operations will continue despite increasing resistance and threats from armed groups.

The Secretariat has also called on stakeholders to continue supporting efforts to curb illegal mining activities across the country.

I hid behind a desk – Ghanaian student recounts harrowing shooting at Brown University http://34.58.148.58/i-hid-behind-a-desk-ghanaian-student-recounts-harrowing-shooting-at-brown-university/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 05:52:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610729 A Ghanaian student and teaching assistant at Brown University in the United States, Joseph Oduro, has recounted the terrifying moments he survived during a deadly shooting at the university’s Barus and Holley engineering and physics building.

The incident occurred when a lone gunman opened fire, killing two students and injuring nine others.

Oduro, who was leading a study group at the time of the incident, described the experience as deeply traumatic, saying he genuinely believed his life had come to an end when the gunman entered his lecture hall.

Speaking to ABC News Live anchor Whit Johnson, Oduro explained that the incident began with unusual noises outside the classroom. He said there was commotion in the corridor, with sounds of students screaming and what later turned out to be gunshots, although he initially struggled to process what was happening.

“At Brown University, which is an Ivy League institution, you assume that you’re going to be safe,” he said, noting that gun violence was not something he expected in that environment.

According to Oduro, just seconds later, the gunman barged into the classroom from the left side. He said he could not clearly recall what the suspect said, explaining that the individual appeared to mumble or scream something as he entered.

Oduro said panic immediately spread across the room as students desperately tried to escape. Standing at the front of the class, he was among the first to make eye contact with the gunman.

“I immediately saw a gun,” he recalled. “The gun was so big and long that I genuinely thought, ‘This is the end of the road for me.’”

He described watching students flee down the stairs, rush through exits, and drop to the ground in a frantic effort to stay alive.

Fearing for his life, Oduro said he hid behind a desk until police arrived at the scene.

Tragically, some of the students in the room did not survive the attack.

Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed that a person of interest who was earlier detained in connection with the shooting has since been released, citing insufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as the university community continues to mourn the victims and grapple with the aftermath of the violence.

Adelekezu residents burn six vehicles, destroy mining company’s property after boy’s death http://34.58.148.58/adelekezu-residents-burn-six-vehicles-destroy-mining-companys-property-after-boys-death/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 06:57:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610324 The Western Regional Police Command has launched investigations into a fatal shooting at a mining company site in Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District, which claimed the life of a boy and caused significant damage to company property.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Police officers who responded to the scene found extensive destruction, including two burnt 4×4 SUVs and two tipper trucks. A pickup vehicle and a Toyota Land Cruiser were also damaged during the disturbance.

Preliminary investigations suggest that some youth from Adelekezu allegedly had a confrontation with private security personnel at the mining site while attempting to enter the company’s concession.

During the altercation, the youth reportedly tried to seize a pump-action gun from one of the security guards. In resisting the attempt, the guard allegedly fired a shot that struck the boy.

The victim was rushed to the Axim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The death reportedly sparked anger among the local youth, who went on a rampage at the site, setting company property on fire and threatening to lynch workers. Police intervention led to the rescue of 11 workers from the scene.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. They include Gyenyame Owusu, 38; Matthew Asamah, 24; Nana Yaw, 15; Yaw Opoku, 16; and Kojo Agyei, 21. The suspects are being held for causing harm and unlawful damage.

The Western Regional Police Command has appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations to ensure justice is served.

Two National Guard members in critical condition after shooting near White House http://34.58.148.58/two-national-guard-members-in-critical-condition-after-shooting-near-white-house/ Thu, 27 Nov 2025 07:03:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604442 Two National Guard soldiers are critically injured after being gunned down in Washington, DC, less than two blocks from the White House, in what the city’s mayor called a “targeted shooting”.

Police said a lone suspect opened fire on two National Guard members from West Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, before being subdued by other National Guard members nearby who had heard the gunfire.

President Donald Trump, who was in Florida at the time, said the alleged gunman was an Afghan national who entered the US in September 2021.

He vowed his administration would ensure the suspect “pays the steepest possible price” for “an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror”.

Multiple law enforcement sources earlier identified the alleged gunman to the BBC’s US partner CBS as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national. His immigration status was unclear.

Tens of thousands of Afghans entered the US under special immigration protections following the chaotic US withdrawal from that country in 2021 under former President Joe Biden.

“We must now re-examine every alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden,” said Trump in a live address on Wednesday night.

A statement from Joint Task Force DC, which is co-ordinating the National Guard deployments to the nation’s capital, said the attack took place at around 14:15 EST (17:15 GMT) on Wednesday near the Farragut Square Metro Station.

The soldiers were on a high-visibility patrol near the corner of 17th and I streets, a busy lunch spot for office workers.

FBI Director Kash Patel – whose agency is leading the investigation – told a news conference the soldiers were “brazenly attacked in a horrendous act of violence”.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Chief Jeff Carroll said the suspect “came around the corner” and “immediately started firing a firearm”.

He said the soldiers had been “ambushed”.

Other National Guard members nearby heard the gunfire and responded, he said.

“They actually were able to intervene and to kind of hold down the suspect, after he had been shot, on the ground until law enforcement got there within moments,” Carroll said.

The suspect was shot four times, law enforcement sources told CBS.

A map showing Washington DC and where the shooting took place

It is unclear what weapon was used in the assault. Nor was a motive immediately clear.

The suspect was not co-operating with authorities, law enforcement sources told CBS on Wednesday night.

President Trump – who is at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach – vowed to punish the attacker.

“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement,” he added.

US Vice-President JD Vance, who was addressing troops in Kentucky at the time of the attack, urged “everybody who’s a person of faith” to pray for the victims.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said in a post on X that both victims were members of his state’s National Guard and had died from their injuries.

But he soon posted a second statement that cited “conflicting reports” about their condition.

The attack prompted a temporary stoppage at the city’s main airport on the eve of the US Thanksgiving holiday.

Flights through Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were briefly grounded after the attack, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

At the scene, glass from a bus stop lay shattered on the pavement.

The intersection was full of police cars, armed security personnel and National Guard troops.

One witness told the BBC he heard two gunshots, followed by three more.

People ran in panic, some trying to take shelter in a liquor store.

Another witness who was in his car close to the metro station showed the BBC footage he took of the two soldiers lying on the street in their uniforms while being treated by medics.

A third person, apparently the alleged gunman, was also on the pavement being treated.

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the president had asked him to send 500 more National Guard members to Washington DC, following the attack.

“This will only stiffen our resolve to ensure that we make Washington DC safe and beautiful,” the Pentagon chief said.

There are currently nearly 2,200 National Guard troops in Washington DC.

The force includes contingents from the District of Columbia as well as Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia and Alabama.

They are a reservist force that can be activated to serve as military troops, but have limited power as they cannot enforce the law or make arrests.

The National Guard were deployed to Washington DC in August to tackle what Trump called “out of control” crime.

EPA Two uniformed National Guardsmen stand close to a scene on the streets of Washington DC where two West Virginia National Guard members were shot.

Overall crime in the nation’s capital has fallen since the force was sent, which Trump credits to the troops’ presence on the streets.

Washington DC police figures show 62 homicides (a category that includes murder) between 25 May and 25 November this year.

That compares with 107 homicides recorded in the same period last year.

Nearly 6,500 offences have been recorded by police since 12 August, down from about 9,500 in the same period in 2024.

Trump, a Republican, has sent the National Guard to Democratic-led US cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and Memphis.

He argues the deployments were needed to tackle crime, but opponents legally challenged the moves, accusing the White House of overreach.

In the footage, the man is seen firing a pump-action gun from a distance before advancing toward the crowd and targeting onlookers.

The clip shows frantic bystanders ducking and fleeing as bullets flew, all while police and fire officers were present at the scene.

The video has intensified criticism of the police for their failure to restrain or arrest the alleged gunman during the chaos.

According to the Accra Regional Police Command, at least seven people sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.

The shooting occurred amid a massive fire outbreak at the outskirts of Madina Redco Flats on Sunday, August 3, which destroyed over 50 makeshift structures and left many residents displaced.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly and managed to bring the blaze under control within 20 minutes, although thick smoke and falling live power lines further complicated the situation.

Meanwhile, the Madina Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Police officer among four dead in shooting at New York City office building http://34.58.148.58/police-officer-among-four-dead-in-shooting-at-new-york-city-office-building/ Tue, 29 Jul 2025 08:30:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2560828 A New York City police officer is among four people killed in a shooting inside a Midtown Manhattan high-rise.

Police said the gunman walked into the office building on Monday evening with an MR rifle in clear view before spraying bullets in the lobby and on an upper floor. He then took his own life.

The shooting, in the centre of the most populous US city, sent pedestrians running for cover as police warned of an active gunman around 1830 ET. Those inside the building cowered as gunfire echoed – some even piling couches and chairs against doors as they hid in offices.

Police say the suspect, Shane Devon Tamura, 27, travelled from Las Vegas, but a motive is unclear.

Among those killed was New York City officer Didarul Islam, who was working security at the building at the time of the attack. The three other victims have yet to be identified.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the suspect entered the building at 345 Park Avenue, which houses businesses including the National Football League (NFL) and the investment management company Blackstone, and immediately opened fire.

He fatally shot Mr Islam in the building’s lobby, then took aim at a woman who hid behind a pillar. He proceeded through the lobby, “spraying” it with gunfire, hitting multiple people, including a security guard hiding behind a desk and another man nearby.

CBS The suspect is seen on surveillance video entering the building with a rifle in his hand.
The suspect was seen on surveillance video entering the building

As he waited for an elevator, a woman stepped off, but the gunman spared her and let her pass, Commissioner Tisch said.

He made his way to the 33rd floor – where Ruden Building Management is located – and again opened fire – killing one person before walking down a hallway and shooting himself in the chest, she added at a Monday night news conference.

Authorities are unsure of a motive, though Tisch noted the gunman had “documented mental health history.”

Tamura travelled from Las Vegas to the East Coast over the last few days, stopping in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and New Jersey. He arrived in New York shortly before the shooting. It’s unclear whether he has any ties to New York, the building or Ruden Building Management.

Police searched the suspect’s BMW, which he had double-parked out front, and found multiple magazine rounds and a revolver. The vehicle was registered in Nevada to Tamura, who was a registered gun owner in the state.

NYPD Officer Didarul Islam is photographed in a release from police

Local officials and authorities celebrated Officer Islam Monday night. “He died as he lived – a hero,” Ms Tisch said.

An officer with the department for three years, Officer Islam was an immigrant from Bangladesh. He and his wife have two children, and his wife is currently pregnant with their third child.

“He was doing the job that we asked him to do,” Ms Tisch said. “He made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The incident brought parts of Midtown Manhattan and public transportation to a halt. A BBC journalist at the scene reported seeing scores of police vehicles and at least one person with a bloodied chest being taken away on a stretcher.

Bystanders reported hearing what sounded like gunshots, and police told those in the area, including the BBC journalist, to shelter in nearby buildings.

Police worked floor-by-floor to clear the building, an effort that took hours.

Mama Bouhenni, working at the nearby Sip & Scoop coffee shop as the incident unfolded, told the BBC she saw dozens of people from surrounding buildings being evacuated.

They held their hands above their heads, she said.

Ms Bouhenni said she recognised many of them as customers. “This is so terrifying for them. I hope they can go home safe.”

Jealous husband, 60, jailed 20 years after fatally shooting wife in front of child http://34.58.148.58/jealous-husband-60-jailed-20-years-after-fatally-shooting-wife-in-front-of-child/ Mon, 21 Jul 2025 08:52:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2557814

A 60-year-old man, Doe Fiano, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by an Accra High Court for fatally shooting his wife in the presence of their four-year-old child.

Fiano pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received an additional 10-year sentence for possessing a firearm without lawful authority. The sentences are to run concurrently, as ruled by Justice Mrs. Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie.

The tragic incident followed an argument sparked by a phone call the victim, Grace Yorke Torku, received from a male acquaintance. In a fit of rage, Fiano entered their bedroom, retrieved a pistol, and shot her dead.

Initially charged with murder, Fiano pleaded guilty to manslaughter under Section 296(1) of Act 30, earning a reduced sentence.

His defence counsel told the court that Fiano had no prior criminal record, showed remorse, and was the primary caregiver of the couple’s children.

However, the prosecution pushed for a minimum sentence of 30 years, citing the severe emotional trauma inflicted on the child who witnessed the murder. Prosecutors also described the brutal nature of the crime, noting gunshot wounds to the victim’s head and genital area.

In sentencing, the judge considered both aggravating and mitigating factors, including Fiano’s remorse, status as a first-time offender, and parental responsibilities.

According to the prosecution, the Assemblyman for the Okomante Electoral Area, Gordon Tsimese, had alerted the police after Fiano was seen brandishing a weapon and threatening passers-by at Taaboo Line.

Police arrived to find the victim in a pool of blood. The murder weapon and an empty magazine were later recovered during a follow-up search.

Fiano was arrested at Nii Amui Park in Ashaiman through police intelligence.

A pathologist at Tema General Hospital confirmed on June 6, 2023, that the cause of death was gunshot wounds to the head.

Man, 60, sentenced to 20 years with hard labour for shooting wife in genitals http://34.58.148.58/man-60-sentenced-to-20-years-with-hard-labour-for-shooting-wife-in-genitals/ Wed, 16 Jul 2025 15:54:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2555955 A 60-year-old man, Doe Fianu, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour after pleading guilty to manslaughter for the death of his wife, Grace Yorker Torku.

Fianu had, in 2023, shot his wife – Grace Yorke Torku in the head and vagina, leading to her death after an argument due to a phone call she had received from a “male caller.”

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter instead of murder, after activating sections of act 30 which puts him on a lesser punishment instead of the life sentence murder would have carried.

He also plead guilty to the second charge of possession of firearms without lawful authority.

The High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, convicted him of both counts.

Prior to sentencing, Justice Kizita Quarshie noted that the Court considered several factors before imposing the sentence.

The Court said it considered Fianu’s guilty plea, which saved court time, him being a first time offender and the fact that he showed remorse.

The prosecution led by Winifred Sarpong, a Principal State Attorney had pointed out that the crime was severe, especially considering that the couple’s 4-year-old son had witnessed the incident. They noted that the traumatic incident had a significant impact on the boy.

The prosecution had urged the court to impose a sentence of no less than 30 years after his lawyers led by Bernard Obiri Koranteng had made arguments for mitigation.

In delivering the sentence, Justice Quarshie said it considered the mitigating pleas and aggravating factors, including Fianu’s first-time offender status, his remorse, and the fact that he had not wasted the court’s time.

However, the court also noted the severity of the offense and the impact it would have on the couple’s children.

The Court consequently sentenced him to 20 years for manslaughter and 10 years for possession of firearms without lawful authority. He is to serve both sentences in hard labour.

However, the Court said both sentences will be served concurrently at the Nsawam Prison which means, he will serve the highest of the two punishments which is 20 years.

Brief facts

It was the case of the Prosecution that the Assembly man of Okomante Electoral area, one Gordon Tsimese, made a distress call to the District Command of Police with information that the accused person Doe Fianu had shot his wife, one Grace Yorke Torku.

Following the shooting, he was wielding a weapon that he used to prevent others from getting close to him.

With this information, the Police proceeded to the scene at Taboo line and found the deceased in a supine position in a pool of blood in the living room of their home.

It said, examination of the body of the deceased revealed two gunshot wounds on “the head and vagina” of the deceased.

“Investigations revealed that on 26th May 2023, the accused and his wife (deceased) Grace Yorke Torku had an argument due to a phone call she received from a male caller,” the prosecution said.

It said, in the course of the argument the accused entered their bedroom and brought out a pistol and shot the deceased.

“The body of the deceased was removed after inspection to the Tema General Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

“Intelligence led to the arrest of the accused who had been arrested by some witnesses at Ni Amui Park at Ashaiman,” it said.

It said, the Police also retrieved the weapon which had been taken from the accused person.

Subsequently on May 29, 2023, the Police revisited the crime scene and retrieved the empty magazine of the pistol.

On June 6, 2023, the Pathologist at the Tema General Hospital performed the autopsy in the presence of relatives and the police and gave the cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head which is unnatural.

The tragic incident occurred at an illegal mining site while the victims were reportedly transporting gold from the site to their residence.

According to the Assembly Member for the Kojina Electoral Area, Frank Addae, unknown gunmen ambushed the group and opened fire, killing both the Chinese national and his Ghanaian driver instantly.

A third member of the group, believed to be their personal security officer, sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to the Anhwiaso Community Hospital for treatment.

Frank Addae said he immediately contacted the Bibiani Police, who responded swiftly and conveyed the bodies to the morgue.

He used the occasion to caution the public about the dangers associated with illegal mining and urged individuals to prioritise safety and environmental protection over unlawful profits.

The police have since launched a full investigation into the incident.

Armed robbers shoot 4 passengers at Buduatta Junction, one suspect arrested http://34.58.148.58/armed-robbers-shoot-4-passengers-at-buduatta-junction-one-suspect-arrested/ Sun, 06 Jul 2025 11:33:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2551945

Four passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital after suspected armed robbers opened fire on a commercial vehicle at Buduatta Junction along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway. One of the assailants has been arrested by the police.

The attack occurred at dawn around 1:00am when the robbers blocked the highway and began robbing commuters at gunpoint.

A Toyota Hiace minibus, which was carrying passengers, came under fire when the driver attempted to stop.

Four passengers sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.

Police say this is part of a pattern of armed robberies in the Gomoa East District, particularly between May and June this year, with victims previously attacked around Potsin Junction and Okyereko Junction.

Due to increased police checkpoints in those areas, the robbers are suspected to have relocated their operations to Buduatta Junction.

According to the Central East Regional Police Command, officers from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) and the Kasoa Divisional SWAT team responded swiftly to the scene.

The wounded passengers were rushed to the hospital, and the affected vehicle was escorted to the Dominase District Police Command.

While returning from the operation, officers encountered two suspicious individuals near the Onion Market around 2:30 a.m. One fled into the bush, but the other was arrested.

Upon search, three mobile phones belonging to the passengers were found on him, and he was positively identified by both the driver and some of the passengers.

The arrested suspect has since been transferred to the Central East Regional Police Command for further interrogation, while all four victims remain hospitalized.

Meanwhile, officers at the Gomoa Dominase District Police Command have raised concerns about inadequate resources.

They say the station lacks vehicles and sufficient personnel to effectively combat the increasing robberies in the area.

They are appealing to the government and the Inspector General of Police to urgently address these challenges to help safeguard lives and property.

SHS girl shot dead at Bimbilla Fire Festival celebration http://34.58.148.58/shs-girl-shot-dead-at-bimbilla-fire-festival-celebration/ Sun, 06 Jul 2025 08:56:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2551927 A young girl whose name has been given as Fatima has been shot dead at the Fire Festival in Bimbilla, within the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region.

According to a reporter with Beat FM, Mohammed Abdul-Rashid Natogmah, Fatima, a year two student of the Bimbilla Senior High School, was hit by a stray bullet while a procession was moving from the regent’s palace to the Wampu Dam, where the fire was to be thrown.

Mr Natogmah said they were at the palace when they heard someone had been hit by a bullet, adding that they moved to the hospital to confirm the incident.

“I was at the palace when we heard the incident, so we rushed to the hospital, and the dead body was brought to the hospital. I even helped in removing the dead body,” he narrated.

Mr Natogmah said a young lady, assumed to be a friend of Fatima, who was part of the team that accompanied the body to the hospital, said they had sneaked out of the house to the festival because their parents had asked that they should not attend the festival.

“When we asked, the lady told us the girl was from one area called Bayawaya in Bimbilla, and the name is Fatima. She said before they came out, the parents didn’t want them to come out, so they hid and sneaked to the scene,” he said.

Mr Natogmah said the source of the shot remains unknown, and the police have yet to commence investigations into the incident.

The Regent of Bimbilla, Nyelimbolgu Naa Yakubu Andani II, had cautioned against any acts that could mar the beautiful celebration.

He emphasised that the celebration held significant importance for the area and urged the youth to conduct themselves with decorum.

Colombian senator shot two times during campaign rally http://34.58.148.58/colombian-senator-shot-two-times-during-campaign-rally/ Sun, 08 Jun 2025 10:52:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2542614

Colombian Sen. Miguel Uribe Turbay, a possible candidate in the country’s presidential election next year, was shot and wounded at a campaign rally in Bogota on Saturday, authorities said.

His conservative Democratic Center party released a statement calling it “an unacceptable act of violence.”

The attack took place in a park in the Fontibon neighborhood when armed assailants shot him from behind, said the right-wing Democratic Center, which was the party of former President Alvaro Uribe. The men are not related.

Images circulating on social media showed Uribe Turbay, 39, covered in blood being held by several people. A medical report from the Santa Fe Foundation hospital said the senator was admitted in critical condition and is undergoing a “neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedure.”

“Miguel is fighting for his life,” his wife, María Claudia Tarazona, wrote on the senator’s X account, urging Colombians to pray for him.

The Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating the shooting, said the senator received two gunshot wounds in the attack, which wounded two others. The statement from the office said a 15-year-old boy was arrested at the scene with a firearm.

Colombia’s government said it was offering a reward for the capture of all those responsible.

“Respect life, that’s the red line,” President Gustavo Petro said in a message posted on his X account. Shortly after making the post, Petro canceled a planned trip to France “due to the seriousness of the events,” according to a presidential statement.

Late Saturday night, after leading an extraordinary Security Council session, Colombia’s first leftist president promised “complete transparency” in the investigation and to find the intellectual authors of the attack. He also promised an investigation into any failures by the senator’s bodyguards.

Colombian police chief Gen. Carlos Triana said that at the time of the attack Uribe Turbay was accompanied by Councilman Andrés Barrios and 20 other people. A minor who allegedly participated in the attack was apprehended at the scene and was being treated for a leg injury, he said.

“I have ordered the Colombian military and police forces and intelligence agencies to deploy all their capabilities to urgently clarify the facts,” said Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on X that the “United State condemns in the strongest possible terms the attempted assassination of Senator Miguel Uribe.” and he urged President Petro “to dial back the inflammatory rhetoric and protect Colombian officials.”

“This is a direct threat to democracy and the result of the violent leftist rhetoric coming from the highest levels of the Colombian government,” Rubio said.

Reactions poured in from around Latin America, with Chilean President Gabriel Boric saying “there is no room or justification for violence in a democracy,” and Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa saying “we condemn all forms of violence and intolerance.” Both presidents offered solidarity to the senator’s family.

In Colombia, former President Uribe said “they attacked the hope of the country, a great husband, father, son, brother, a great colleague.”

Fear grips Nkawkaw Zongo residents over shooting incident http://34.58.148.58/fear-grips-nkawkaw-zongo-residents-over-shooting-incident/ Wed, 21 May 2025 14:04:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2536968 Residents of Nkawkaw Zongo in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region have been thrown into fear and panic following a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of three Fulani men.

The victims — Mohammed Wanto (47), Abubakari Abdallah (57), and Abubakar Mohammed (56) — were ambushed by unknown masked gunmen at their usual gathering spot, a veterinary shop near Nkawkaw Zongo Barracks, on the evening of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, around 8:00 p.m.

Eyewitnesses reported that two men died instantly, while the third initially escaped but was pursued and fatally shot shortly after. During the attack, a young boy sustained serious gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.

The brazen nature of the shooting in a public place has left residents terrified, prompting many to flee the area that night. Calls for urgent government intervention are growing louder, with community members demanding either relocation of the Fulani community or enhanced security to prevent further violence.

Halidu Tamimu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, has assured residents that measures are underway to strengthen security.

The Assembly is collaborating with the Minister for Communication, Sam George, and the CEO of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Richard Karikari Kevor, to install CCTV cameras along the Zongo–Akuajoo stretch to monitor activities and deter criminals.

The Nkawkaw Central Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the killings. Although the attackers remain unidentified, police say they are pursuing multiple leads to determine the motive and apprehend those responsible.

The tragic incident has heightened tensions in Nkawkaw Zongo as residents anxiously await swift justice and restored peace.

The incident occurred during a meeting aimed at resolving growing tensions over sand winning, which local farmers say is destroying their farmlands and threatening food production.

Crops such as cassava, maize, and pawpaw have reportedly been severely impacted.

In response to community complaints, the boundary chief of the Adonteng Division of the Akuapem Traditional Area, accompanied by his subjects, visited the site to mediate the situation.

However, the visit turned tragic when a group of armed men—allegedly acting under the instructions of individuals identified as Togbe and Alanyo—opened fire on the chief’s delegation.

The gunfire triggered chaos at the scene, leading to the deaths of at least five people.

Police in Nsawam have so far declined to comment on the incident, indicating that investigations are ongoing.

The community remains tense as residents demand justice and increased security.

Anger as aid worker dies after DR Congo shooting http://34.58.148.58/anger-as-aid-worker-dies-after-dr-congo-shooting/ Sat, 22 Feb 2025 15:46:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2507518 An aid worker has died from gunshot wounds in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where Rwanda-backed rebels who captured two key cities in recent weeks are trying to seize more territory.

Jerry Muhindo Kavali, 49, was injured two days ago by a bullet that struck the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) office in Masisi where he was working.

He was taken to hospital in Goma for life-saving treatment but died of his wounds on Saturday.

Colleagues say he was deeply dedicated to humanitarian work and “always had a smile on his face”.

Kavali’s death has angered aid workers trying to help the tens of thousands of Congolese people whose lives have been destroyed by the war.

“Even war has its rules”, said MSF in response to the news.

The town of Masisi, where the MSF worker was shot, has witnessed fierce fighting between militias allied with the Congolese army and rebels belonging to the M23 and Alliance Fleuve Congo rebel groups.

The bullet that killed Kavali was “one of many bullets to hit our premises over recent weeks”, the MSF head of programmes Stephan Goetghebuer said.

Key areas already under M23 control include provincial capitals Goma and Bukavu, and the rebels appear to be continuing their advance.

Eastern DR Congo is rich in minerals and this battle for control of the region partly has its roots in the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

It has been riven by conflict for more than 30 years and attempts in recent years to integrate rebels into the Congolese army have failed.

Experts now fear what effects the conflict will have on the wider East Africa region.

On Friday, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution condemning the M23 offensive in eastern DR Congo, urging Rwanda to stop supporting the rebels, and saying they should immediately leave Congolese territory “without preconditions”.

This week, the US announced sanctions on M23 Spokesman Lawrence Kanyuka and Rwandan minister James Kabarebe for his alleged role in the conflict.

The incident occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, when a group of mourners was stopped at a routine police checkpoint.

Tensions escalated when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a female officer, leading to a call for backup. Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng was among the responding officers.

In the ensuing struggle, Constable Kennedy was accidentally shot in the abdomen.

He was rushed to a nearby health center but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The family expressed their distress, stating that despite the incident happening in the morning, they were only notified late in the evening by a police officer who mistakenly claimed that Kennedy’s death was election-related violence.

To date, the family has not received any formal communication or support from the Ghana Police Service, and they have yet to see Kennedy’s body since Sunday.

The family is demanding an official statement from the Police and accountability for the tragic incident.

Fan shot dead celebrating Arsenal beating Manchester United http://34.58.148.58/fan-shot-dead-celebrating-arsenal-beating-manchester-united/ Fri, 06 Dec 2024 06:31:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2480005 A fan of English football club Arsenal, who was celebrating the team’s victory over Manchester United, has allegedly been shot dead by a security guard in Uganda.

Another fan was injured as the guard opened fire on a large crowd of jubilant supporters at a restaurant in Lukaya town in central Uganda, about 100km (62 miles) from the capital Kampala.

It happened towards the end of the match, which Arsenal won 2-0.

A local journalist told the BBC that the building’s manager was angered by the noise that the jubilant supporters were making and asked the guard to intervene.

However, the fans did not heed a warning to quiet down.

Witnesses told the journalist, Farish Magembe, that the owner switched off the power in the restaurant, angering the fans, who responded by making even more noise.

It was then that the guard allegedly opened fire, firing several shots.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old John Ssenyonga, died at the scene. Another long-term Arsenal fan, Lawrence Mugejera, was taken to hospital for treatment.

Both the guard and the manager of the building are on the run after the incident, with the police looking for them.

The regional police spokesman, Twaha Kasirye, was quoted by the Daily Monitor newspaper as saying that they had recovered a gun at the scene.

“We condemn the incident and we ask anyone with information that can help the police to bring the suspect to book to speak up,” he said.

He also urged fans to control their excitement.

Tensions and tragic violence arising from the outcome of football matches, especially between English clubs, are not uncommon in the country where the English Premier League is followed closely.

In October, an Arsenal fan stabbed a Manchester United fan after the two argued over the results over the results of a clash between Arsenal and Liverpool.

In January last year, a youth councillor died from stab wounds in Kampala after intervening in a fight after Arsenal lost to Manchester City.

Just a week before that, an Arsenal fan had been bludgeoned to death in Adjumani, in the West Nile district.

Adult film star Jay Hefner shot dead http://34.58.148.58/adult-film-star-jay-hefner-shot-dead/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 17:36:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2446151 Porn star Jay Hefner was shot dead while protecting his cousin in what has been described by his devastated family as a ‘senseless act of gun violence.’

Hefner, whose real name is Saiveon Hopkins, had traveled to Nebraska from his home in Ontario Canada to celebrate a loved one’s birthday.

While defending his cousin from violence, the 24-year-old was reportedly gunned down on the street in downtown Lincoln about 1.30am.

Despite first responders’ best efforts, Hopkins died in hospital from his injuries about 5.40am Sunday morning.

Hopkins’ girlfriend Madi Murchison shared a moving tribute on Sunday revealing she ‘instantly broke down’ when his mother called to share the tragic news.

‘I’ve never felt this type of hurt and idk (I don’t know) how to get through it,’ she said.

Murchison said Hopkins was her ‘safe place’ who ‘showed me love I’ve never experienced.’

‘This one hurts, my heart is completely broken… you made sure to vocalize your love every single day.’

GoFundMe has been established for Hopkins’ grieving family – including his 10-month-old daughter and terminally ill mom.

The fundraiser’s organiser Kyra Miller is a friend of Hopkins’ mom, Jeni.

She said: ‘It’s never easy to lose a loved one but losing a child is the most painful loss one can ever experience.

‘My close friend Jeni Brown, lost her son due to a senseless act of gun violence while trying to protect his cousin from physical violence.

‘Saiveon was a shining light that was there for everyone who loved him.’

Miller said in addition to caring for his daughter, who ‘adored him’, Hopkins also helped Jeni, who is terminally ill, care for his siblings.

‘Due to the financial strain already placed on the family for Jeni’s medical care and the unexpected passing, I am wanting to help raise funds to relieve them of the financial burden during an already devastating time.

‘Funerals can be costly and we would like to honor Saiveon in a way that he deserves.’

In addition to his work in the adult film industry, Hopkins recently completed a course to become a ‘veneer tech’, and worked as a model for Fashion Nova.

3 shot on rapper Lil Baby’s music video set http://34.58.148.58/3-shot-on-rapper-lil-babys-music-video-set/ Fri, 17 May 2024 03:43:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2396096 Three people have been shot on music set of popular American rapper, Lil Baby, in Atlanta.

The shooting began from what sounds like a semi-automatic weapon firing relentlessly for about 6 seconds while dozens of staffers and people were setting up filming equipment on Tuesday afternoon.

The camera man ducked for cover and the video got shaky as he pointed the lens toward the ground, but the background conversation fills in a bit of the story’s blanks.

A group of men apparently were pretending to film a music video or content of their own nearby and fired shots from a white car before they sped off.

Someone off camera can be heard commending them for the deceit, claiming the gunmen “played it smooth.”

More gunshots can be heard blasting not too long after the initial shooting but someone advises the man to put his firearm away, the assailants were long gone, and he was wasting bullets shooting at no one.

When the police responded to reports of shots fired in the shopping district of Verbena Street in Atlanta, they found a 24-year-old male with an apparent gunshot wound to the arm and a 27-year-old male with an apparent gunshot wound to the back.

The police also located a 23-year-old male, who transported himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck.

All of them reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and Lil Baby was also reported to be unharmed.

Investigators are now investigating any possible reason behind the sh00ting.

Slovakia Prime Minister shot multiple times in attempted assassination http://34.58.148.58/slovakia-prime-minister-shot-multiple-times-in-attempted-assassination/ Wed, 15 May 2024 21:22:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2395584

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in a small town north-east of Bratislava.

On Wednesday evening Defence Minister Robert Kalinak said Mr Fico had been in surgery for over three hours and that the situation was “bad”.

Slovak politicians including the president have called the shooting an “attack on democracy”.

The alleged assailant was detained at the scene but has not yet been formally identified by the authorities.

Earlier on Wednesday evening Defence Minister Robert Kalinak said Mr Fico had been in surgery for over three hours and that the situation was “bad”.

The attack happened at about 14:30 (12:30 GMT) in Handlova, about 180km (112 miles) from the capital Bratislava, as Mr Fico greeted people in front of a cultural community centre where a government meeting had been held.

Footage showed a man raising a gun and firing five times at the prime minister before being subdued by bodyguards while other members of Mr Fico’s security detail took the prime minister into his car.

He was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital before being flown to another hospital in Banska Bystrica, east of Handlova.

Later on Wednesday Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba told the BBC that he believed Mr Fico’s procedure in hospital had gone well.

“I guess in the end he will survive,” Mr Taraba said, adding: “He’s not in a life threatening situation at this moment.”

At a press conference on Wednesday, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok said Mr Fico had been shot in the stomach.

“Initial information clearly points to political motivation,” he added.

Unconfirmed local media reports said the suspect was a 71-year-old writer and political activist.

Reuters Robert Fico (file pic)

Slovakia’s outgoing president Zuzana Caputova said something “so serious had happened that we can’t even realise it yet”.

“The hateful rhetoric we witness in society leads to hateful acts,” she added.

Mr Kalinak and Mr Estok blamed the spread of hate speech on social media for the shooting and urged citizens not to “respond to hate with hate”.

Mr Estok accused the media of contributing to the climate that led to Mr Fico’s shooting, telling a press conference: “Many of you were those who were sowing this hatred.”

He added that protection would be provided to constitutional officials as well as other groups who could be subject to similar attacks, including journalists and public figures.

Reuters A man was immediately detained after the shooting

Mr Fico, 59, returned to power in Slovakia after elections last September, at the head of a populist-nationalist coalition.

His first few months as prime minister have proved highly contentious politically. In January he halted military aid to Ukraine and last month pushed through plans to abolish public broadcaster RTVS.

Thousands of Slovaks have protested against the proposed reform of the public broadcaster in recent weeks. However, a planned opposition-led demonstration was called off on Wednesday as news of the shooting emerged.

Parliament was sitting at the time of the attack and Slovak media reported that a party colleague of Mr Fico’s shouted at opposition MPs, accusing them of stoking the attack.

President-elect Peter Pellegrini, who is a political ally of Mr Fico’s, said he was horrified to hear of the attack and also blamed the shooting on recent political divisions.

Describing the attack as an “unprecedented threat to Slovak democracy” he said people did not have to agree on everything, but there were ways to express disagreement democratically and legally.

Wold leaders have also condemned the attack on Mr Fico. US President Joe Biden condemned the “horrific act of violence” and said the US embassy was in “close touch” with the Slovakian government and was “ready to assist”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said there could “be no justification for this monstrous crime”. European Council President Charles Michel said “nothing can ever justify violence or such attacks”.

In the late hours of Tuesday, April 30, Nana Ben, who doubles as the Gyasehene of Millinneum City allegedly opened fire on the vehicle containing three officers, killing one instantly.

The deceased was shot behind the wheels of his private Toyota  RAV4 car with registration number GR 3591-24.

According to Adom News’ Seth Kofi Adjei who followed the story, the dispute stemmed from a land tussle between the deceased military officer and some alleged illegal developers.

As the officers proceeded to the regional command to lodge a complaint, an eyewitness who spoke to Adom News said Benlord threatened to deal with them if they do not stop pursuing the land and police case.

As his threats went unanswered, he reportedly trailed them from behind and opened fire at the car.

He reportedly shot the deceased who was driving about 7 times in the head and chest area, causing the car to crush into a gutter.

The colleague officers managed to flee the scene.

The wounded officer was rushed to the mother and child hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Military officer shot dead over alleged land dispute http://34.58.148.58/military-officer-shot-dead-over-alleged-land-dispute/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 23:19:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2388487 A military officer, believed to be in his late 30s, lost his life in a violent altercation over land rights at Kasoa Millennium City.

Two other officers narrowly escaped death after a sub-chief allegedly opened fire on them in front of the district police station

The incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute over land ownership. It was reported that the brother of one of the military officers had purchased land on behalf of the officers.

However, attempts to develop the land were consistently thwarted by a group led by an alleged land guard.

In a bid to find a resolution, the deceased officer and his companions visited the disputed land, only to find another group already working on it.

Despite their attempts to restore calm and seek intervention from the police, tensions escalated.

According to the alleged landowner, the officers decided to lodge another complaint at the Millennium City District Police Command.

However, upon learning that their initial complaint had been forwarded to the Central East Regional Police Command, they set off to follow up on the matter.

As they departed for the regional police command, the sub chief reportedly attempted to stop them. When the officers refused to comply, he allegedly drew a pistol and opened fire on their vehicle.

Tragically, one officer was fatally wounded, while the others narrowly escaped harm.

Kofi Asmah, the owner of 21st Century Construction Company, who sold the land in question, has accused the police at Millennium City of failing to address the situation effectively due to alleged corruption within their ranks.

Armed robbers attack mining company, shoots over five Chinese at Akyem Akokoaso http://34.58.148.58/armed-robbers-attack-mining-company-shoots-over-five-chinese-at-akyem-akokoaso/ Sun, 11 Feb 2024 12:03:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2354342 At least five Chinese nationals have been shot, with three left in critical condition in a brazen armed robbery attack on a mining site in Akyem Akokoaso, located within the Ofoase Ayirebi constituency of the Eastern Region.

The victims were targeted in a robbery at the office of Jia Xin Industrial mining company, which undertook underground mining within old shafts in the area.

Reports indicate that a group of approximately 15 armed robbers stormed the mining site during a social gathering at night, making off with Ghc10,000 cash and two gold bars.

One of the victims sustained a gunshot injury in his private part.

The assailants disabled the CCTV cameras by confiscating their decoders, demonstrating a calculated and organized approach to the robbery.

“15 people executed the mission, tough guys. They didn’t pass through the Akokoaso Kade road. They took along the decoders of the CCTV cameras. They didn’t target other civilians. The company is licensed to do deep mining prospecting in the Akokoaso old shaft but taking undue advantage to mine to that extent,” a source familiar with the incident told Starr News.

The victims have been hospitalized and receiving treatment.

There have been longstanding tensions between the mining company and the local community.

Over the years, residents have accused Jia Xin Industrial of engaging in illegal mining practices, particularly due to their lack of proper licensing for extensive underground mining activities, which have reportedly caused damage to the area.

Jia Xin Industrial Company inherited the prospecting license from Ofosua Mining and Construction Company in 2018, following approval by then-Minister John Peter Amewu.

However, recent confrontations between the company and local youth have escalated, with 16 individuals from Akokoaso being arrested three weeks prior for illegal mining activities on the company’s concession, allegedly at the behest of Chinese authorities.

The mining company has suffered many robbery attacks in recent times.

Motor riders shoots lady multiple times in Kumasi http://34.58.148.58/motor-riders-shoots-lady-multiple-times-in-kumasi/ Thu, 21 Sep 2023 09:14:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2296528 A motor riding gang attacked a 25-year-old lady at Aprade Junction in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at about 7:00 PM.

The gang opened fire on the lady, shooting her multiple times in the legs.

The incident caused bystanders to run in all directions to take cover.

It is unclear whether the lady attempted to resist the gang who attacked her on the quiet junction to rob her of her belongings.

Eyewitness Account

A taxi driver who made a daring dash to whisk the bleeding lady to the Living Waters Hospital, Prince Agyapong, recounted how residents in the area were living under constant fear of attacks from these motor-riding robbers.

“The gang members do not look like persons who live in Aprade. They come riding these royal motorbikes looking all suspicious. I passed them when I was driving here, and my instinct told me they were going on an operation.

A few moments afterwards, I heard sporadic shooting. I turned around and got closer to find this lady under attack. I am a quite brave young guy so as people were running away I went straight to the lady, lifted her and stopped a friend’s taxi to rush her to the hospital,” he narrated.

“My brother, if you see what they have done to the legs of this young lady who is wailing uncontrollably in the emergency ward, you will be driven to tears. It’s a pathetic sight,” a saddened Agyapong added.

Residents Concerns

Residents of Aprade, Oduom, and its adjoining communities along the Kumasi Ejisu highway in the Ashanti region, especially women, have become targets for motor riding gangs pounding on unsuspecting persons at dawn and in the evenings.

A woman who spoke to Ultimate News recounted several incidents where these robbers lay ambush at dawn waiting to snatch the belongings of traders who would usually leave home around those early hours for the market.

“Just four days ago, they came back here, held a woman, and robbed her of her money and everything she had on her. They are strangers to this community,” she recounted.

Police Response

The heroic taxi driver, Prince Agyapong, expressed worry that all their complaints to the police to beef up patrols in the area had fallen on deaf ears.

“When this incident happened, police from Tech, Oduom, Ejisu, and all these areas have now woken up from their slumber to come and ask what happened. Why will they have to wait for people to die before they act? Imagine if I was told that my sister had been attacked and maimed by armed robbers like this,” Agyapong bemoaned.

As of 10:30 pm, the family of the victim, who indicated they lived far off in Bekwai, were yet to get to the hospital to offer assistance, leaving the taxi driver playing family to the young lady.

Police shoot two suspects dead for attempting to escape custody http://34.58.148.58/police-shoot-two-suspects-dead-for-attempting-to-escape-custody/ Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:04:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2283705 The Jacobu district police command has denied claims they deliberately shot and killed two suspected criminals.

The deceased, according to the police, attempted to escape from custody, forcing them to open fire.

But the family of one of the victims is not satisfied with the explanation of the police, saying they want an independent investigation into the matter.

Speaking to Adom News’ correspondent, Isaac K. Normanyo, the distraught family members are finding it difficult to understand how suspects in police custody will be shot dead.

The police said it acted on intelligence and arrested the two suspects on Wednesday evening, August 9.

Upon search, three unspent cartridges were found on one of the suspect, Amoateng.

The police added that further interrogation led to the retrieval of three guns and other boxes of unspent cartridges in the house of Amoateng.

According to the police, whilst returning to the station, the two suspects attempted to escape, compelling officers to open fire.

The two died on the spot.

Sources within the Jacobu township disclosed, one of the deceased, Agyemang has been convicted severally for robbery but can’t say same for the other, Amoateng.

Mother of Amoateng, Comfort Manu, however, insists her son is not a criminal.

They want the IGP to constitute an independent body to investigate that matter.

Student arrested for shooting eight schoolmates dead http://34.58.148.58/student-arrested-for-shooting-eight-schoolmates-dead/ Thu, 04 May 2023 06:44:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2245414 A teenage boy opened fire in a school in the Serbian capital of Belgrade just after lessons began on Wednesday morning, killing eight children and a security guard and seriously injuring several others, officials said.

The boy – a 13-year-old student at the school – allegedly sketched out the attack in advance on crumpled pieces of paper that officials displayed at a somber press conference. He called police himself after the shootings, they said.

The rare and possibly unprecedented event, in a nation with strict firearms laws yet high levels of gun ownership, sent shockwaves through the local community and beyond.

First reports of the shooting emerged not long after students arrived to begin the day at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School, a well-known institution in Vračar, an upscale area of the Serbian capital. Panicked parents rushed to the scene.

Seven girls and one boy were killed, alongside the security guard, Belgrade’s Police Chief Veselin Milić said at a press conference. A further six children and one teacher were hospitalized, Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The suspect opened fire in a history classroom, “because it was near the entrance of the school,” he added.

He killed the security guard first, then went to another classroom where she shot some of his schoolmates, Milić said. The teenager then telephoned the police and waited to be arrested in the schoolyard.

The alleged shooter was later filmed being taken from the school in handcuffs with a jacket over his head and wearing blue, skinny jeans. He was flanked by police officers and driven away in an unmarked police car.

Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic said that the suspect’s father was also arrested, adding that it was known that he had previously visited a shooting range with his son, whose age was first given as 14.

Parents gathered outside the school as police responded to the shooting.

According to Gasic, the boy brought two guns from home. “The parent had several pieces of weapon and kept them locked up. The safe had a code. Obviously the kid had the code as soon as he managed to get hold of those two guns. And three frames full of 15 bullets each.”

Milić, the police chief, said the boy had a 9mm pistol and a small caliber pistol in a bag, as well as four Molotov cocktails.

Officials said the shooting was premeditated, and displayed sheets of paper that allegedly showed the suspect’s plans for the attack.

Parents struggled to come to terms with the shooting. The father of one student said he ran to the school to look for his daughter after seeing police at the scene, according to CNN affiliate N1.

“My child is still in shock, full of adrenaline, we haven’t been able to calm her down,” a mother of one child told N1.

Another father recounted a chaotic morning. “I was heading to the bank, and I saw a bunch of police. That was around 8:50. I came running. I saw the school psychologist, I saw the school staff, the teachers who were in shock,” the father told N1.

“The police came quickly, from what I could see. I asked: ‘Where’s my kid?’ And allegedly, one man said that the history teacher was shot. I went back to my apartment to look at my child’s schedule, and she was actually in history class. I took my wife with me and we went back out on the street,” he said.

“I saw that the security guard was lying under a table, in a circle [of blood] I went through the door looking for an attendant. I didn’t know what to do. I asked ‘Where’s my kid?’ and no one was saying anything,” the father said.

Police officers escorted the alleged shooter from the school.

The man later learned that his daughter had escaped unharmed.

The interior ministry said in a statement on Facebook that it was told of the incident at 8.40 a.m. local time (2.40 a.m. ET). “All available police patrols were dispatched to the scene, where they immediately went onto the school grounds and apprehended a minor, a seventh-grader who is suspected to have fired several shots from his father’s gun at students and the school security guard,” the statement said.

A schoolgirl injured in the shooting has life-threatening wounds and was undergoing surgery, N1 reported.

The shooting happened at about 7:30 Saturday morning, when Jeremy Brown was heading out for work.

Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said Kadejah Brown and her husband, Jeremy Brown, had been arguing most of the night. He added that Jeremy Brown was trying to leave the apartment and defuse the situation before being shot.

There were kids present at the apartment during the time of the shooting, and they were reportedly crying, saying “please, daddy, please” during the livestream.

Authorities said the 28-year-old male victim died from a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Deputies were on the scene in a matter of minutes and were able to recover a handgun, along with a shell casing.

“There was a history of domestic violence between Brown and the victim,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said in a Facebook post. “This was a tragic and senseless murder and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim.”

Seven killed in attack on Jehovah’s Witnesses hall http://34.58.148.58/seven-killed-in-attack-on-jehovahs-witnesses-hall/ Fri, 10 Mar 2023 14:16:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2226540 Seven people have been killed and several more injured in a shooting at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting hall in the German city of Hamburg, police say.

They say the gunman acted alone in Thursday’s attack, and is also thought to be dead. His motives are unknown.

Dramatic footage has now emerged that appears to show the suspect firing many rounds through a window of the hall.

The suspect is a former member of the religious community, aged between 30 and 40, Der Spiegel magazine reports.

The victims are yet to be identified, and work at the crime scene continues.

Police say they found a dead person at the scene who they believe may have been the perpetrator.

They were called at about 21:15 local time on Thursday, to reports that shots had been fired in the building.

Officers who went in found people who “may have been seriously injured by firearms, some of them fatally”, he said.

“The officers also heard a shot from the upper part of the building and went upstairs, where they also found a person. So far we have no indications that any perpetrators fled.”

It is thought people had gathered, possibly for a Bible study, when the shooting began at around 21:00 local time.

Gregor Miesbach, who filmed the gunman shooting through a first-floor window, told the Bild newspaper: “I heard loud gunshots, went to the window to get a picture of the situation. I saw a man with a firearm shooting through a window and filmed it.”

Lara Bauch, a 23-year-old student who lives nearby, told the DPA news agency that “there were about four bursts of gunfire – several shots were fired in each burst – with gaps lasting roughly 20 seconds to a minute”.

She said that from her window she could see a person frantically running from the ground floor to the first floor. “The man was wearing dark clothing and moving fast,” she added.

An alert was sent on the federal warning app, NINAwarn, at about 21:00 local time telling locals that “one or more unknown perpetrators shot at people in a church”.

Local residents were told not to leave their homes amid the ongoing police operation.

Footage showed police escorting people out of the meeting hall, some to ambulances.

Hamburg’s Interior Minister Andy Grote said on Twitter that police special forces and a large number of officers had been deployed to the scene.

The reasons behind the shooting were “still completely unclear”.

On Friday morning, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described it as a “brutal act of violence”, saying his thoughts were with the victims and their relatives.

In a statement, the Jehovah’s Witness community in Germany said it was “deeply saddened by the horrific attack on its members at the Kingdom Hall in Hamburg after a religious service”.

Forensic experts in white suits worked through the night inside the brightly lit interior of the meeting house.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are members of a Christian-based religious movement, founded in the US at the end of the 19th Century.

In its latest report from 2022, the movement says there are about 8.7 million Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide, including about 170,000 in Germany.

In the city of Hamburg, there are believed to be nearly 4,000 members of the organisation.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are probably best known for their door-to-door evangelical work; witnessing from house to house and offering Bible literature.

Aowin Traditional Council sends message to police over shooting incident, threats [Photos] http://34.58.148.58/aowin-traditional-council-sends-message-to-police-over-shooting-incident-and-threats/ Thu, 23 Feb 2023 11:17:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2220600 There’s fear and panic among the Aowin Traditional Council after the shooting incident that led to the death of four persons in November 2022.

The leaders have appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to intervene.

Four people were shot dead and many injured after unidentified men allegedly attempted to attack the Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area, Beyeeman Tano Kwao Benbuin II, in the early hours of Sunday, November 6, 2022.

The traditional council has revealed that since the shooting incident last year, the traditional leaders in the area feel insecure as they have been receiving several threats from unidentified persons believed to be in the same area.

At a press conference at Enchi, Nana Enoku Panyin III, the chief of New Yaakase, who led the press conference, said they live in fear, particularly the paramount chief, Beyeeman Tano Kwao Benbiun.

Nana Enoku Panyin expressed worry about the police’s failure to ensure effective protection of the palace and the traditional leaders since the shooting incident happened. He called on the government to intervene before things get out of control in the area.

However, Nana Enoku Panyin III disclosed that since the undercurrent of these disturbances and assassination attempts are all steeped in chieftaincy disputes, he humbly implored the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to order urgently the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs sitting on the dispute regarding the Aowin Paramount Stool to come out with their ruling to forestall any other issues that may hamper the peace and tranquillity of the Aowin Traditional Area.

Also, some of the chiefs, who were present during the press conference who spoke to the media, urged the security operatives in the region to ensure the protection of lives and property in the Aowin traditional area.

Woman arrested after her daughter wrote classwork about how ‘mum shot dad’ http://34.58.148.58/woman-arrested-after-her-daughter-wrote-classwork-about-how-mum-shot-dad/ Thu, 09 Feb 2023 15:54:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2214659  A woman was arrested after her daughter wrote a story in her kindergarten class about her mother shooting at her father during a fight at home in Tennessee.

Kaydra Johnson, 28, was nabbed by deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, February 6, and charged with four counts of reckless endangerment for allegedly firing the gun at their house while their four kids were inside.

Police said they learned of the domestic violence after a school counselor at Donelson Elementary tipped off the state’s Department of Children’s Services about potential abuse after the young girl penned a story for class about a fight between her parents that ended with gunshots.

The story paints a vivid picture of the dispute.

“Mother and father got into a fight. Mum told him to get out because he was smoking too much. Father hit mother in the eye. Mother said look what you’ve done?” the girl wrote.

“Mother got the gun from under the bed. I was in the living room, and my sisters and brother were in the room. Mother pulled the gun on father and shot three times. The bullets hit the wall. Mother told him to sleep in his car in the driveway and not to come back or she will shoot him again.”

When police arrived at Johnson’s home they found her locked out of her house while her 1-year-old and 4-year-old children were inside, police told WREG.

Police forced the garage door open and firefighters checked on the two children, who appeared to be fine after spending an hour and a half alone inside.

Deputies noted several bullet holes in the living room, bedroom and hallway walls.

Johnson confessed to firing at her husband at least twice but told police it was only after he entered the home without her permission and then punched her and hit her with a vacuum cleaner.

Police said she had a cut and bruising around her right eye.

Johnson said three of her children were on the couch and the fourth was in the bathroom when she fired the gun. Her husband was not injured. Two guns were seized from the home.

Two of her children were placed in custody with their grandmother and two others are with their aunt.

The suspect allegedly shot his friend, Yaw Saahene, 35, during a confrontation after he accused the victim of attempting to snatch his wife.

Suspect Akwasi is said to have initially orchestrated a fight, despite both his wife and friend denying the accusation. Neighbours, however, settled the fight and each returned to their homes.

Eyewitnesses told Adom News’ Augustine Agyapong, that the suspect thereafter summoned Saahene to his home under the pretext of burying the hatchet.
