The Authority has imposed a total administrative penalty of GH¢462,000 and suspended operations of the offending entities with immediate effect.

The sanctioned companies and unions include Express Transport, AY Transport, Dikyebu Transport, Ghana Express, KEK Transport, Nasara Transport, V3 Express, Commercial Transport Union, and Vigilante Transport Union.

According to the NRSA, these entities consistently ignored repeated regulatory directives despite multiple notices issued to them.

Each company is required to pay GH¢6,000 for non-registration and an additional GH¢60,000 for ignoring lawful notices — totaling a GH¢66,000 penalty per company — payable within 14 days.

Director-General of NRSA, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, emphasized that the grace period for compliance ended on March 30, 2025, and the Authority has now moved fully into enforcement mode.

“The period of leniency has expired. The Authority is enforcing its mandate strictly and will not bend the rules for anyone. These companies chose non-compliance despite multiple warnings, while about thirty others have complied,” he said.

The NRSA has directed the suspended companies to cease operations immediately until they meet all regulatory requirements or face stiffer penalties.

Under L.I. 2468, all commercial road transport operators — including passenger services, haulage companies, institutional transport departments, school bus services, ride-hailing platforms, tyre service centres, and vehicle maintenance workshops — must register with the Authority as part of efforts to enhance safety, accountability, and service delivery in Ghana’s transport sector.

This enforcement action underscores NRSA’s commitment to sanitizing the transport industry and ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.

South Africa sweat over potential 2026 World Cup sanction http://34.58.148.58/south-africa-sweat-over-potential-2026-world-cup-sanction/ Thu, 27 Mar 2025 09:35:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2519372 South Africa are waiting to discover if they will be sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player in their 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying victory over Lesotho last Friday.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena should have served a one-match ban after picking up yellow cards against Benin and Zimbabwe earlier in the campaign.

Instead the 28-year-old helped his side to a 2-0 win in Polokwane, and Lesotho have submitted a query to world governing body Fifa about the incident.

“We are hoping for them to respect their own regulations and act appropriately,” Lesotho Football Association secretary general Mokhosi Mohapi told BBC Sport Africa.

“Even if they just caution South Africa, it will be okay. If they give us the points, so be it. [It would be] the cherry on top.

“There’s no malice but it’s just that we are looking for the regulations to be adhered to. If it were us who had defeated South Africa, wouldn’t [they] do the same?”

The South African Football Association declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport Africa.

Mokoena was withdrawn from the squad to face Benin in Tuesday’s qualifier and, after the 2-0 win that took his side five points clear at the top of Group C, national team coach Hugo Broos said the matter is “something that will be sorted over the next week”.

Fifa’s competition regulations state that any protest about player eligibility should be lodged within 24 hours of the end of a match.

Should South Africa be punished with a points deduction, their hopes of appearing at the World Cup for the first time since hosting the tournament in 2010 will be back in the balance.

Instead of the 2-0 win for Bafana Bafana, Lesotho could be awarded a 3-0 technical victory that would move them up to second in the table and one point behind South Africa.

It would also boost Nigeria’s chances of qualification, given the Super Eagles sit six points adrift of top spot with four rounds of fixtures remaining after drawing 1-1 with Zimbabwe.

Only the group winners are assured of a place at next year’s 48-team tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Atletico sanctioned after Madrid derby trouble http://34.58.148.58/atletico-sanctioned-after-madrid-derby-trouble/ Thu, 03 Oct 2024 10:25:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2456182 Atletico Madrid have been sanctioned with a partial stadium closure and fine after crowd trouble in Sunday’s derby game against local rivals Real Madrid.

The La Liga match was halted for about 20 minutes in the second half after Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois complained to officials that home fans behind his goal were throwing objects on to the field.

Appeals were made over the stadium loudspeakers for fans to stop throwing objects but they were ignored, prompting the suspension of the game.

The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee has now ruled Atletico must close the lower south section of the Metropolitano Stadium, where the trouble occurred, for the next three games.

The club have also been fined 45,000 euros (£37,460) for what the body called “very serious” and “totally unacceptable” offences.

The match finished 1-1 after Atletico’s Angel Correa scored a stoppage-time equaliser to cancel out Eder Militao’s opener.

Atletico have said they have already identified and banned one supporter over the matter.

The Big Agenda: Ministry to sanction politicians who branded free ‘hot meal’ http://34.58.148.58/the-big-agenda-ministry-to-sanction-politicians-who-branded-free-hot-meal/ Thu, 27 Aug 2020 17:43:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1845921 The smiles of politicians, who branded free ‘hot meal’ with campaign posters, will soon fade as the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has disclosed they will by all means be sanctioned.

Speaking for the Ministry, National Coordinator, School Feeding Programme, Gertrude Kwashiga, said their attention had been drawn to only one instance of a New Patriotic Party candidate in Tamale.

BECE candidates' food branded in NPP colours won't happen again ...

Madam Kwashiga insists the error was not from her team, adding that she was unaware how the party members got hold of the meals.

She explained the programme is meant for pupils who are below 18 years old, and are ineligible to vote so the idea of political branding is unacceptable.

To correct their flaws, she said the attention of the Advisory and Sanctions Body of the Ministry has been drawn.

“We will bring them to book; we have called and spoken to them. We have Advisory Body. They have been called and reports have been forwarded to the Ministry of Gender,” she assured.

Her explanation and assurance follow some complaints made by Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools, Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, who condemned the action.

Branding BECE candidates' food in NPP colours won't happen again ...

The monies for the ‘hot meal’, Mr Gyetuah said, do not come from individual pockets but from the Free Feeding Programme Policy, hence no one should be allowed to pick political points.

That notwithstanding, he scored the programme 45% for good idea, but poor implementation, alleging there is inequality in food distribution.

“Our checks reveal some private schools were left out of the feeding programme because the caterers claimed they were not given ingredients but at the same time public schools were benefiting from the agenda. I think it will be better to give the monies to households to prepare food for their kids to bring all these matters to rest,” he said.

4 female residents of Unity Hall sanctioned for accommodating male student http://34.58.148.58/4-female-residents-of-unity-hall-sanctioned-for-accommodating-male-student/ Wed, 19 Sep 2018 05:48:08 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1341581 Halls of residence at tertiary institutions are known to be places where students have the absolute freedom to move around at any time, but it seems that is not the case for all.

The newly converted Unity Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) seems to have a different philosophy as it has some strict rules and regulations in place that restricts the movement of students beyond a certain time of the day.

Four female and two male residents of the Hall who recently broke this rule have found themselves signing undertakings for good behavior.

According to a notice put out by the Hall master, the female students – Grace Aba Serwaa Scheck, Nancy Afuakwah, Stabella Fosuaa and Rita Nyanyo – all occupants of room 143 were sanctioned for accommodating a male student after 10pm on 7th September, 2018.

The male students, Papa Kojo Essuman Addison of room 243 and Israel Atumove Wompiah of room 300 were also sanctioned after being found in female rooms at dawn on 8th September, 2018.

The notice, however, did not mention what the male students were doing in the female students’ rooms at the time.

The notice which served as a warning to other residents of the Hall stated that “taking into account the show of remorse and apology to Unity Hall Management from these students and their parents, they have been cautioned and made to sign an undertaking to be of good behaviour throughout their stay in the Unity Hall”.

It added that the maximum sanctions will be applied to any similar act.

The Unity Hall, popularly known as Conti and the University Hall (Katanga Hall), were recently converted from male halls to mixed halls by the University authorities despite serious opposition from both current and old residents of the two halls.

AUDIO: Odekro disappointed in Parliament for deferring sanctions against Ken Agyapong http://34.58.148.58/audio-odekro-disappointed-in-parliament-for-deferring-sanctions-against-ken-agyapong/ Mon, 30 Jul 2018 09:49:51 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/audio-odekro-disappointed-in-parliament-for-deferring-sanctions-against-ken-agyapong/

Parliamentary Research group, Odekro has expressed disappointments in Parliament for deferring sanctions against Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, for his alleged disparaging comments about the House.

According to the group, it will not be enough for Parliament to suspend him if it decides to do so without making a financial deduction from his salary.

The Privileges Committee in its recommendation to the House found Mr Agyapong in contempt of Parliament for the remarks he made that “Parliament is cheap”.

RELATED STORY: Parliament defers sanctions against Ken Agyapong

Accordingly, the Committee recommended to the House to sanction Mr Agyapong by suspending him for the rest of the Session or reprimand him.

Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Majority Leader speaking to the media after Parliament adjourned its sitting to go on break, said the House would revisit the issue when it resumes in September.

He debunked claims that Parliament was shielding Mr Agyapong from being sanctioned as recommended by the Privileges Committee because he is one of their “own”.

But Senior Research Associate of Odekro, Gifty Mensah believes the matter has been put perpetually on the back burner.

From where we’re standing, Odekro believes that, to a large extent, the sanction is inconsequential. Because checking the records, Mr Ken Ohene Agyapong has not been very punctual on the floor of Parliament and he hardly participates in Parliamentary activities.

“He has been consistently absent from Parliamentary proceedings from the fifth Parliament to the current one. This decision we think is not biting enough unless they’re saying that his suspension is going to attract some financial deduction from his salary and benefit as a Member of Parliament that would make more sense“, she said on Accra-based Neat FM as monitored by Adomonline.com.
