Sanchez, 27, has been the Italian coach’s first-choice keeper but has made a joint Premier League-high of five mistakes leading to goals this season.

Having previously said mistakes are common with his style of play, Maresca hinted at a possible change with deputy Filip Jorgensen an option – as former Chelsea manager Graham Potter returns to Stamford Bridge on Monday with the Hammers.

“Not yet,” Maresca replied when asked if he had decided which goalkeeper is playing, adding: “We have two or three days for the decision.

“The good thing is that any decision I take, I feel good because every time Filip has played since we started, he has done well.

“Filip or Robert, we will see but any decision will be okay.”

Maresca was asked whether Jorgensen is pressuring him to start another league game having had just two league starts this season.

“I don’t think so because the first time I spoke with Filip in June or July, I was clear that the number one choice was Robert,” he added.

“For sure, if the number one is Robert and then because we have two good goalkeepers, we can make some different decisions.

“This doesn’t mean that Robert can make a mistake every game and is always going to play. The number one choice was Robert and we will see on Monday.”

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea from Brighton http://34.58.148.58/goalkeeper-robert-sanchez-joins-chelsea-from-brighton/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 15:46:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2280524 Chelsea have completed the £25m signing of Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 25-year-old moves to Stamford Bridge on a seven-year deal.

Sanchez made 23 league appearances for Brighton last season before losing his starting place to Jason Steele.

“Robert is a good guy and a really good player, but being a coach sometimes means making difficult and painful decisions for the team,” Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi said.

“I wish him good luck for the future.”

Sanchez joined Brighton as a 15-year-old in 2013 from La Liga side Levante and signed his first professional contract with the Seagulls two years later.

After loan spells with Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale he made his Premier League debut for Brighton in a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in November 2020.

He will compete with fellow Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea after Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy moved to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in June.

“Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country,” Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said in a statement.

“We are excited to watch him work with Mauricio and his coaching team during the season ahead.”

The goalkeeper is Chelsea’s sixth summer signing as they prepare for Mauricio Pochettino’s first season in charge.

The Blues have bolstered their attack by adding Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig for £52m and Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal for a reported £32m.

They also signed France defender Axel Disasi for £38.5m from Monaco on Friday.

French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu may go on loan after joining for £23m from Rennes on Tuesday, while 18-year-old Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel arrived from Santos for an undisclosed fee.

There have also been a number of high-profile departures from Stamford Bridge.

Germany forward Kai Havertz joined Arsenal in a £65m deal, England midfielder Mason Mount was sold to Manchester United for £55m plus £5m in add-ons, while Manchester City signed Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic for an initial £25m.

Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly both joined Saudi clubs, as did N’Golo Kante when he signed for champions Al-Ittihad, while English midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and United States forward Christian Pulisic have both completed moves to AC Milan.

Chelsea reach agreement to sign Robert Sanchez from Brighton http://34.58.148.58/chelsea-reach-agreement-to-sign-robert-sanchez-from-brighton/ Thu, 03 Aug 2023 20:35:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2280203 Chelsea have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

The Spanish international is now expected undergo a medical imminently after a fee in the region of £25million ($31.7m) was agreed between the two clubs.

The 25-year-old will add competition for current No 1 Kepa Arrizabalaga after Edouard Mendy departed for Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli in June.

The move will also see him re-join goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts whom he worked with at Brighton.

Sanchez, who lost his place to Jason Steele in March, was not included in Brighton’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States with his future in doubt.

Brighton have already added to their goalkeeping department this summer with the signing of Dutchman Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.

Sanchez featured 23 times in the Premier League last season before dropping out of the starting XI in March.

Robert De Zerbi said at the time that he felt Steele was better suited to his preferred style of playing out from the back.

He requested to be left out of several Brighton squads towards the end of the 2022-23 campaign after being replaced by Steele as first choice.

Chelsea have signed Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu and Angelo Gabriel this summer with Monaco defender Axel Disasi set to join them.

Tyler Adams of Leeds United is also being considered while talks continue with Brighton over fellow midfielder Moises Caicedo.
