According to them, hundreds of hectares of cocoa farms have been demarcated with pillars to be destroyed for the construction project.

One of the affected farmers, Yaw Thomas, who owns thirty-five acres of cocoa farm, said the Onaa community is the second largest cocoa producing community in the Ashanti region.

“Government and COCOBOD should base on the Economic Plant Protection Act 1979 to intervene and stop the alledged private developer from cutting down our cocoa trees for real estate redevelop,” he said.

He said the farmers inherited their farmlands from their forefathers and have farmed for over four hundred years in the area.

The farmers are surprised at the turn of events to clear their trees.

“Onaa is a total village community; what income will you gain for constructing real estate in this bush. The government needs to come in because this is our source of livelihood,” Thomas stated.

The President of Concerned Cocoa Farmers Association in Ghana, Nana obodie Boateng Bonsu II, visited the community to access the situation.

He called on the government to urgently deployed a taskforce to beef up security and prevent the destruction of cocoa farms.

“Cocoa had been declining and challenging for Ghana COCOBOD due to galamsey activities, why should we allowed hectares of cocoa trees to be cut down in the second largest cocoa producing area in the Ashanti region? He quizzed. “No it won’t happen.”

According to him, the Parliament of Ghana should strengthen laws protecting the cocoa tree from indiscriminate cutting.

“We the concerned cocoa farmers won’t allow this to happen. I am looking for the so-called private developer to deal with him with the law,” he said.

Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has been accused of embezzling state funds and laundering them through real estate investments in Accra.

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, revealed the allegations at a news conference on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Dr. Ayine disclosed that Mr. Adu Boahene invested a total of $2,217,815 million in landed properties both in Ghana and abroad.

The charges follow Mr. Adu Boahene’s arrest, which is connected to financial misconduct involving a $7 million cyber defense system contract.

The contract, signed on January 30, 2020, between the Ghanaian government, the National Security Ministry, and the Israeli firm RLC Holdings Limited, was intended to enhance the country’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats and data breaches.

In his capacity as NSB boss, Mr. Adu Boahene signed the contract but also created a private business that closely mirrored the operations of the NSB, which he ran with his wife.

Mr. Adu Boahene was arrested on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Kotoka International Airport upon his return from London, and he remains in detention.

I have no real estate business – Cecilia Dapaah insists http://34.58.148.58/i-have-no-real-estate-business-cecilia-dapaah-insists/ Mon, 09 Oct 2023 12:37:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2303631 Former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has refuted allegations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that she has an undeclared real estate business.

According to her, the OSP has not provided any evidence of that claim.

The court document filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor said Cecilia Abena Dapaah “was engaged in undisclosed and undeclared real estate business in which she obscured and concealed the transactions by employing the use of aliases to avoid detection of the actual ownership of the business and properties, while cleverly receiving proceeds of the transactions in her bank account and investments.”

This is part of OSP’s attempt to confirm the seizure of suspected tainted properties belonging to Madam Dapaah.

However, in an abridgement of time application to the court, the former Bantama MP has denied the allegations outrightly.

According to her, she only sold a property in a representative capacity for her deceased mother.

“That I have an undisclosed and undeclared real estate business when I have no real estate business and the applicant has not provided a scintilla of evidence that I do. I concealed my identity by using aliases to sell the property to third parties when Applicant’s own Exhibit OSP16 shows that I rather sold the property in a representative capacity for Nana Yaa Ode.

Nana Yaa Ode also known as Nana Ode Nyarko, was my mother (now deceased),” Cecilia Dapaah explained in her affidavit.

Meanwhile, she has also maintained that the OSP is abusing her silence in the ongoing case and wants the court to expedite the hearing.

According to her, the OSP relied on her caution statement taken from her earlier to refreeze her accounts and re-seize her cash despite the earlier court order.

“Again, the Respondent has alluded to my decision to remain silent on 7th September 2023 and is seeking to on that as further justification for the confirmation of his re-seizure of the money and re-freezing of my bank accounts which he did two days prior on September 5, 2023.”

“I am advised by Counsel and verily believe the same to be true: having exercised his administrative powers to re-seize the money and refreeze my bank accounts on 5th September 2023, the Applicant cannot justify his suspicion on the cautioned statements in Exibits OSP10 and OSP6 which were taken after reseizure and refreezing.”
