Singing held me down, being a rapper made me hungry – Fameye http://34.58.148.58/singing-held-me-down-being-a-rapper-made-me-hungry-fameye/ Sun, 20 Aug 2023 12:09:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2284941 Ghanaian singer Fameye has opened up about his musical journey, detailing his transition from singing to rapping and back.

Renowned for his soulful singing, he unveiled the reasons behind his break from the rap scene in his latest interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

“I stopped doing rap because I hardly remember the lyrics,” he admitted. “I only remember my lines when I sing.” He acknowledged his knack for melodies, which became his stronghold in unfamiliar rap territory. “I am not good at freestyles, but I can use melodies to find my way.”

Regarding his hiatus from rapping, Fameye candidly expressed that while rap intrigued him, it didn’t bring the desired outcomes.

“Rap didn’t bring me anything, but I would not say others shouldn’t rap,” he explained. “If you are good at it, and you are comfortable that’s fine.”

Fameye shared his plans to infuse his singing with rap elements in upcoming projects. “I can do a new song and add a little rap to it,” he revealed.

He also highlighted his past rap creation, “God’s Warning,” a track that showcased his hip-hop flair. “It’s a correct Hip Hop that I released two years ago,” he said. “Those kinds of songs are done for hardcore people.”

For aspiring artistes, Fameye had a straightforward suggestion: “I’d advise you to sing but if rap is your talent fine.” His personal journey underscores the importance of embracing individual strengths and authentic artistic paths.

“A lot of these n***as [know] where I live at fr. I sleep in peace. If a n***a want smoke I’m at my crib in 5 mins,” he said.

According to Fox 13, he was followed not only on social media but on his way home. As he arrived outside of his apartment just moments after sharing the Instagram story, he was shot and killed.

He wrote on his Facebook live video post:

“People won’t understand what you going through until you act stupid… I am sorry  I love you all”.

Social media on fire as male rapper shows off pregnancy [Photos+Video] http://34.58.148.58/social-media-on-fire-as-male-rapper-shows-off-pregnancy-photosvideo/ Fri, 03 Sep 2021 12:21:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2010004 Social media is buzzing as budding American rapper announces pregnancy in some maternity photos.

Lil Nas X hinted he was expecting; not a baby, but his debut album Montero.

The rapper who came out as gay ended his fans’ anticipation when he showed off his pregnancy in a video he posted across all his social media platforms.

In celebration of the impending delivery of his “baby” on Sept. 17, the musician, 22, did an over-the-top pregnancy shoot, complete with a bump and flower crown.

Lil Nas X (né Montero Lamar Hill) tells PEOPLE exclusively that he came up with the idea to do the shoot after listening to Megan Thee Stallion’s verse on his new song “Dolla Sign Slime” for the first time.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing,’ so I immediately called my stylist,” he says. “She was like, ‘Wow, this all comes together. Your album. Your baby.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, this is my baby, huh?’ As a joke, she was like, ‘Yeah, you should do a pregnancy shoot.'”

“I was like, ‘You know what? That’s actually brilliant,'” he continues. “So now we have this entire thing coming out, and it’s going to be amazing.”

Lil Nas X

The timing of the photos coming out now also couldn’t have been better, as Lil Nas X just posted a spoof to Instagram on Monday of Drake’s Certified Lover Boy cover art featuring several pregnant women emojis with the difference being that his features pregnant men.

“I was like, ‘There’s no way the universe is lining up this perfect for this to happen,” he says with a laugh.

Asked whether the album is an immaculate conception of sorts, Lil Nas X responds, “I guess I am the father as well as the mother.”

“But I guess the producers who worked on it are like the dads too,” he says, before giving it another thought: “Or maybe uncles.”

Montero was largely created over the past year in lockdown. The creation of this new music, Lil Nas X said on Twitter last week, was “therapeutic.”

Lil Nas X

“I’ve changed in so many ways,” he says now. “I’ve changed the way that I handle a lot of situations, the way I manage my sadness and anger and just understanding that I don’t have to react to emotions in certain ways. I can’t choose how I feel, but I can choose how to react. I’ve learned to let people’s comments roll off my back.”

“The only person that really has to believe in me is myself,” he says. “It’s been a lot of self-affirmations this year that I probably would not have been able to do two years ago.”

From the personal “Sun Goes Down” to the catchy “Industry Baby,” the songs on the new album represent Lil Nas X’s total journey here, from “places I’ve been to places I want to go.”

“You’re getting a lot of stories about me,” he says. “You’re getting a lot of stories about my past and where I want to be in my love life. But they’re also a bop. I feel like I finally found a great balance between being as real as possible within my music and making a hit song.”

Along with the Megan Thee Stallion collaboration, Lil Nas X teamed up with Elton John for “One of Me,” Miley Cyrus for “Am I Dreaming” and Doja Cat for “Scoop” on the album, which also includes his previously released single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

Like any parent, he has a lot of hopes and dreams for his “baby” on the way.

“I hope every single corner of the globe is reached with this album,” he says, before declaring, “It’s going to happen!”

At his graduation ceremony in Atlanta, the man threw $5,000 cash in the air and continued doing so despite authority trying to stop him.

His flagrant disobedience got him arrested and detained by the police. A video of the act has since gone viral on Twitter.

HipHopWired, which gathered that the money was more than $5,000, quoted the young rapper as saying that he only wanted to create memories.

In the clip, the young man gyrated on the stage, throwing dollar bills in the air as co-graduates scream.

TMZ reports that the man vowed to repeat the same thing at his brother’s graduation which would come up soon.

I’m in my own league, I don’t see any competition – Medikal http://34.58.148.58/im-in-my-own-league-i-dont-see-any-competition-medikal/ Sun, 11 Oct 2020 17:15:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1865679 Rapper, Medikal says he does not see himself in a competition with any artiste in the country.

The AMG signee said he is currently focused on being the best rapper and artiste he could be, hence, does not focus on what others are doing.

“I don’t listen to any rapper right now, so, I don’t know how they (currently) sound like or how their music is now. I just listen to myself because I want to be better,” Medikal told George Quaye on Showbiz A-Z, Saturday.

The ‘Ayekoo’ hitmaker explained that he has created a league of his own he is trying to flourish in.

However, that does not downplay the impact or works and talent of other rappers, Medikal added.

“I feel I am good at what I do and obviously other rappers are good as well. I won’t make someone else look bad and raisE mine because everybody thinks about himself first.”

Medikal stated that he appreciate every artiste he has worked with especially those who helped him grow to the league he is now, namely Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy among others.

He said that these artistes were at their peak but they showed him love when he was an upcoming act and nurtured him into the rapper he is now.

“I am in that position right now and I know how hard it is to be working on yourself, recording your own songs and being under pressure to do songs for other upcoming artistes as well. So big ups to any artiste that helped me.”

The 43-year-old musician made series of wild allegations in a dramatic Twitter rant this morning – also branding his mother-in-law Kris Jenner a “white supremacist”.

On his Twitter page this morning, he wrote: “They tried to fly in with two doctors to 51/50 me.

“I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Waldorf for ‘prison reform.

“I got 200 more to go. This my lady tweet of the night … Kris Jong-Un. Lil Baby my favourite rapper but won’t do a song wit me.”

He claimed he has been trying to divorce Kim for over a year

He appears to be referring to the time Kim and Nicki Minaj’s ex Meek Mill teamed up to speak at the inaugural Criminal Justice Reform Summit in Los Angeles in November 2018.

Last year, 33-year-old Meek had an 11-year drug and gun conviction dramatically overturned after spending 11 years on parole.

30-year-old Qaw’mane Wilson – who performed under the name Young QC, ordered a hitman to kill Yolanda Holmes back in 2012.

He was convicted on Friday in Chicago alongside the hitman Eugene Spencer, who received a 100 year sentence.

The court heard how Wilson cleared his mum’s bank accounts out after her death.

“The word is ‘matricide,’ meaning murder of one’s own mother,” Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks said in court.

After her death, Wilson used his mum’s money to customize the Mustang she had bought him and evidence was shown to the jury of him withdrawing large amounts of money and later throwing cash into crowds of people at one of his shows.

Wilson, who was 23 at the time of her killing, ordered Spencer to enter her apartment in Chicago, where he shot her in her sleep.

When asked if he had anything to say before the verdict was given, Wilson said: “I just want to say, nobody loved my mother more than me. She was all I had. That’s it.”

Throwback: The rapper who predicted his death http://34.58.148.58/throwback-the-rapper-who-predicted-his-death/ Thu, 16 Jan 2020 11:55:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1741374 Death they say is inevitable and it is the climax of every man’s existence.

People say no one knows when they will die and how they will but a Yoruba rapper predicted his death and so did it happen.

This is the story of Nigerian rapper DaGrin.

Born Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun on October 25, 1984, DaGrin, was a rapper from Ogun, who rapped in Hausa, English and Pidgin English.

He was active in his music career since the year 1994 and came out with all-time hits like ‘Kondo’ and his national favourite but a controversial song, ‘Pon Pon Pon’.

Some albums he came out with during his time included, ‘Still On The Matter. C.E.O, The Genesis Of C.E.O, Bulleribang, If I Die and C.E.O Ep.

Sometime in 2010, DaGrin released a song which seemed quite controversial and drew so much attention as the subject matter of the song sounded a very peculiar one.

As it stands, the song has still remained a long term topic for contemplation and there is just a question whenever the song comes to mind “did he intuit his departure from the face of the earth?”

This is because the song that sparked so many controversies was just as complicated as its title ‘If I die’.

The song had very strange lyrics; “if I die, if I die….. make you no cry for me.”

It sounded as though the rapper sensed an impending danger especially at a point in the chorus where he said in Yoruba, “Kole Ye Won, Ko Ye Won meaning “The World Will Never Understand, They Don’t Understand”.

Just as he had predicted in the ‘farewell’ song, few days after on April 22, 2010, he passed away in a gory accident.

His car ran into a truck in Mushin in Lagos.

DAGRIN 03

Dagrin’s mangled accident car

Other reports also speculate DaGrin may have been a victim of Nigeria’s faulty healthcare system. According to DaGrin’s mother, Mrs Olaonipekun, the rapper’s final eight days on earth were marred by neglect by medical professionals of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH) who were striking at the time. She told journalists that LUTH nurses neither gave the rapper appropriate care nor had facilities to run high-end tests that could’ve ensured his survival.

Perhaps the only real mystery around DaGrin’s death is an eye witness report that a companion who had been clubbing with DaGrin before his unfortunate accident, tried to tag along. And oddly, DaGrin who is usually receptive of his squad had refused, insisting that he’d rather drive through the night alone. Admittedly, this singular final act is hard to explain without attributing it to factors outside the ordinary, especially against the backdrop of a lone posthumous single like “If I Die”.

In 2019, SaharaReporters.com reported that the trucks which DaGrin ran into nine years earlier, were still parked at the same point they were on the day of the accident.

Kanye West: Rapper changes his name to Ye http://34.58.148.58/kanye-west-rapper-changes-his-name-to-ye/ Sun, 30 Sep 2018 16:03:17 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1364401 Rapper Kanye West is changing his name – to Ye.

Announcing the change on Twitter on Saturday, he wrote: “The being formally [sic] known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

West, 41, has been nicknamed Ye for some time and used the moniker as the title for his eighth album, which was released in June.

The change came ahead of his appearance on Saturday Night Live, where he was expected to launch his new album Yandhi.

He replaced singer Ariana Grande on the show who cancelled for “emotional reasons”, the show’s creator said.

As well as being an abbreviation of his current professional name, West has previously said the word has religious significance for him.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means ‘you,'” West said earlier this year, discussing his album title with radio host Big Boy.

“So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”

He is one of a number of famous rappers to change their name.

Sean Combs has been variously known as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy or Diddy, but this year announced his preference for the names Love and Brother Love.

A former West collaborator, JAY-Z, has also made do with or without a hyphen and capitals.

90 hospitalized during Chance the Rapper concert http://34.58.148.58/90-hospitalized-chance-rapper-concert/ Mon, 24 Jul 2017 08:12:15 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=324091
More than 90 people were hospitalized in Connecticut during a concert headlined by musician Chance the Rapper, authorities said.
Hartford Police officers made 50 underage drinking “referrals” at the event Friday night, Deputy Chief Brian Foley tweeted.
He described it as a “busy night, saying most patients were underage concertgoers who suffered severe alcohol intoxication.
“Additional steps will have to be taken to address these issues at these concerts,” he said.
The three-time Grammy Award winner was part of the lineup during Hot 93.7’s Hot Jam concert at Xfinity Theatre in Hartford.
Foley told the Hartford Courant that 90 people hospitalized is more than the average on a regular night.
“A typical concert is around 20-30 transports. Sixty would be very bad. We had 70 once and 90 last night,” Foley told the newspaper.
The number was so high, Hartford’s ambulance provider had to seek extra help, with some patients transported to hospitals in Farmington, Manchester and New Britain, Fire Capt. Raul Ortiz said.
Artists Kyle, PnB Rock and ANoyd also performed at the event.

I was expecting a BET nomination – EL http://34.58.148.58/expecting-bet-nomination-el/ Mon, 17 Jul 2017 16:51:03 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=303391 Ghana rapper and music producer, Elorm Adablah, popularly known as EL has admitted he was looking forward to have been nominated for the just ended 2017 BET Awards.
According to him, he was expecting to part of the Best International Act for Africa but unfortunately he wasn’t aware of the processes involved hence the reason he failed to chip himself into the award slot.
Speaking to KMJ on ‘Daybreak Hitz’ on Hitz FM, the BBNZ live recording artiste said he thought it was all about talent that earns one the nomination; winning the 2016 Artiste of the year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, he thought he had automatically proved beyond doubt for a BET nomination.
“I was expecting something like that but I didn’t know what the process was. I thought it was all about talent. I think there is a personal connection with organizers both here in Ghana and outside.
“It’s something I have learned. If I had known when I had won the Artiste of the year I need to speak to some contacts, I would have considered. I had not come out of my box then…” he explained.
Meanwhile, the ‘Koko’ hit maker disclosed he felt the presence of biasness in the ‘crime’ music industry when his talent couldn’t put him on the BET map but it has never discouraged him since he is never saddened on the outcome of such things.
“As long as I have breath and can do music for my fans I am doing well. It was a little biased. But what I believed is that your talent should be enough. But in this crime music industry it isn’t so. I taught talent should put you on the map as a great artiste. I am never disappointed in the outcomes on these things…” he maintained.
Nevertheless, the ‘BAR’ rapper disclosed he felt pain in his heart when some fellow artistes in the industry claimed he had bought the ‘Artiste of the Year’ award even though his hard work had proved otherwise.
“When I won the artiste of the year, there was a little controversy. It pained me for others to claim I bought the award. I have worked hard for it. Everyone who is great in the industry has passed through me some way. But I am over it…” he confirmed.

Top foreign rappers fear Ghanaian rappers – Edem brags http://34.58.148.58/top-foreign-rappers-fear-ghanaian-rappers-edem-brags/ Thu, 25 May 2017 15:11:37 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=136951 Rapper Edem has described as ‘top class’ the standard of rappers in Ghana now.

According to the artist who first broke into the music industry as Ayigbe Edem, Ghanaian rappers are feared by top-class foreign rappers.

He noted that foreign rappers fear to face rappers in the country because of the high level of maturity and punches.

Asked on the Kasahari Show on Adom FM by host Pope Skinny whether rap music in Ghana is falling, Edem said rap music has taken a new dimension in Ghana which is making it more attractive and mature.

“I can’t say that rap music is falling, the thing that it is changing its dimension. I think we’re up there.

“I tell established and underground rappers you can compete with anybody on the globe because we go up there and top rappers fear us. They know that we are world class rappers,” he said with a lot of airs.

Born Denning Edem Hotor, Edem named some of his favorite rappers as Strongman, Koo Ntakra, Medikal, who he labelled as amazing.

“The new boys are amazing. Some of my favorites are Strongman, Koo Ntakra – they have so much in content and delivery and Medikal, who has amazing punch lines as it takes intelligence to rap like that.”

Edem has got three albums to his credit. His albums have a fusion of hip-hop, dancehall, reggae and highlife but has revealed that he will soon be releasing a full reggae album for the reggae lovers.

Tanzania rapper arrested for criticising president http://34.58.148.58/tanzania-rapper-arrested-criticising-president/ Mon, 27 Mar 2017 13:41:48 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=47511

Tanzanian rapper Emmanuel Elibariki, known as Nay wa Mitego, has been arrested for releasing a song deemed insulting to the government.

The song emerged last week and has been widely shared on social media.

One line in it asks: “Is there still freedom of expression in the country?” and refers to a “doctor” who can’t tolerate criticism.

Nay wa Mitego’s arrest comes days after President John Magufuli warned media to be careful about exercising freedom.

“Media owners, let me tell you: ‘Be careful. Watch it. If you think you have that kind of freedom – not to that extent,’” Mr Magufuli said.

Police confirmed the arrest to local media, saying the rapper would be questioned “for releasing a song with words that malign the government”.

He was reportedly held at a hotel in Morogoro, about 190km (120 miles) from Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam, to where he was being transferred.

Local media reports said Nay wa Mitego’s lawyer was due to file a request for bail.

Other lines in the song said: “Who are you now? Don’t you want to listen to advice? Don’t you want criticism?”

The lyric is addressed to someone he calls “a doctor specialising in lancing boils”.

The phrase “lancing boils” has been used repeatedly by Mr Magufuli to refer to people he deems obstructive.

‘Madman’

Mr Magufuli, who came to power in 2015, presents himself as a no-nonsense man of the people, unafraid of sacking corrupt or incompetent officials.

Recent opinion polls have suggested he is popular, but critics accuse him of an impulsive style of governing and being intolerant of dissent.

Another line in Nay wa Mitego’s song goes: “I see you handed a club to a madman,” which has been interpreted as referring to an official appointed by the president who has been accused of heavy-handed behaviour.

The BBC’s Sammy Awami in Dar es Salaam says the rapper is popular for his scathing lyrics, attacking not only the government but even his fellow artists.

On his social media accounts he uses the name “NayTrueboy”, saying he always speaks his mind and tells the truth.
