His termination was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo and dated October 17.

“The Ministry of Education has informed this Office that the exigencies that required your skills and expertise as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service do not exist any longer,” portions of the letter read.

Also, the letter noted Prof Opoku-Amankwa’s appointment as a secondment to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has been terminated.

His contract was extended in June 2021.

However, the letter said the extension was in contravention of the Human Resource Policy Frame and manual of the Public Services Commission as it purports to extend “your secondment beyond the three-year maximum limit.”

Sack GES Director-General – NPP guru to Akufo-Addo http://34.58.148.58/sack-ges-director-general-npp-guru-to-akufo-addo/ Tue, 26 Jul 2022 12:02:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2142110 A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr George Ayisi Boateng, has called for the dismissal of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to the former Ghana High Commissioner to South Africa, the GES Director, Prof Opoku Amankwa, does not have the interest of the NPP government at heart and has lost touch with what they stand for.

This comes after Prof Amankwa indicated a review of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Policy was underway.

He explained the exercise is to determine which of the cost components government can relinquish to parents to pay.

“We can do the analysis and then come up and say that, okay, to give Raymond quality education, it will cost this much. Within that cost, these are the items in the cost.

“Then we will all put it out there and say this item, we can make do of it, and it will not affect quality, this item, I think we can get parents to pay,” he told host of Joy News’ Upfront, Raymond Acquah.

But presenting the 2022 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament for approval, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, said the government will continue to fund and improve the policy.

Reacting to Prof Amankwa’s comments, Dr Ayisi has stated it clearly contradicts the government’s position on the policy.

“The GES Director-General is to help resolve problems in our schools and if President Akufo-Addo will listen to me, he should be sacked and I will ask the Education Minister to also push for that. He is not a team leader and player,” he said on Accra-based Okay FM.

He added there are a lot of men and women in the NPP who can equally take up the position and deliver to perfection.

“We are a lot in the NPP; we have the men and women and every wolf in sheep’s clothing must be fired from the government; he is not supporting our course, it will not help the people of Ghana, the Education Minister and he must therefore be fired,” he added.

Check out daily cost per head of food served in SHS http://34.58.148.58/check-out-daily-cost-per-head-of-food-served-in-shs/ Fri, 28 May 2021 10:00:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1965587 It has been revealed that the daily feeding fee per head in public Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide is GHS 5.20p.

This is according to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa.

Prof Amankwa revealed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Thursday while addressing concerns raised by some parents about the feeding under the Free SHS policy.

He explained the amount was initially GHS 4.40p but was increased following a stakeholder engagement.

The amount, he said, caters for the daily breakfast, lunch and supper of the students in each of the schools.

Some school heads in recent times have also lamented about the quality of food the students are served and circumstances under which they have had to use their monies to support feeding.

But reacting to the claims, Prof Amankwa opined that could not be the reality on the ground.

To him, it will be impossible for any school head to use their personal monies for such a purpose.

“I want to know if these school heads are using their personal monies because myself as the Director General, I do not have enough funds to provide even meat pie for these students within three days,” he said.

He detailed the food has been budgeted for by the government with the National Buffer Stock supplying non-perishable foodstuffs while funds are provided for the school heads to get the perishable products.

Going further, he stated the programme in recent times have been met with challenges due to the delay in the appointment of Ministers among others in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s second term.
