His decision follows recent chaos at the Appointments Committee sitting, which he believes highlights a deeper issue affecting MPs’ conduct.

Speaking at a breakfast prayer meeting, Alban Bagbin expressed concern over the stark contrast between MPs’ behavior in private and their often unruly actions in the chamber.

“I keep wondering, what is inside them?” he questioned. In church, people behave differently, but in Parliament, it’s a whole different story. If this is the culture of politics, then we truly need God’s intervention.”

He also noted that disorder frequently erupts whenever his deputies preside over proceedings, contrasting with the relative calm when he is in charge.

“I often wonder why there is trouble when I’m absent,” he said.

“Just last week, I handed over to my second deputy speaker, and within minutes, MPs were on their feet, singing and shouting. I debated whether to step in but held back to let leadership manage the situation.”

Alban Bagbin stressed the importance of impartiality in parliamentary leadership, pointing out that the Speaker’s neutrality is crucial for maintaining order.

“We need to restore order and unity in Parliament, but that requires change—and I believe divine intervention is necessary,” he added.

Kofi Adu Domfeh: Prayers for rain in LA and the call for climate action http://34.58.148.58/kofi-adu-domfeh-prayers-for-rain-in-la-and-the-call-for-climate-action/ Tue, 14 Jan 2025 18:30:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2492903 People are praying for rain in Los Angeles, USA, due to the California’ dry climate and the need for precipitation to sustain the environment, agriculture, and daily life.

Raging fires in the area have killed at least 25, reduced thousands of structures to ash and rubble, and displaced thousands. The fires are among the deadliest in California’s modern history.

Prayers for rain are a common practice in many faiths, seeking divine intervention to end droughts, replenish water sources, and bring relief to those affected by disasters.

In Los Angeles, prayers for rain are particularly relevant during the periods of heatwaves, when the lack of rainfall has exacerbated wildfires, impacted crop yields, and strained local water resources.

By praying for rain, individuals are not only seeking a practical solution to these challenges but also expressing their dependence on a higher power and their trust in its provision.

Though complex, there is a relationship between praying for rain in LA and climate change. Climate change has exacerbated droughts and water scarcity in California, making prayers for rain more pertinent.

Rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and increased evaporation due to warmer temperatures have contributed to droughts in the region.

The prayers for rain can be seen as a response to climate-related stressors; a call for relief from drought’s impacts and a recognition of human limitations in addressing climate change.

But there is the need not to divert attention from human actions contributing to climate change.

Ultimately, prayers for rain in LA reflect a desire for relief from climate-related challenges, while also highlighting the need for continued efforts to address the root causes of climate change.

The vulnerabilities of developing economies

Countries in Africa are currently experiencing varied weather conditions. In South Africa, there are warnings for veld fires in several regions due to high temperatures and dry conditions.

Temperatures are relatively mild in East Africa, but some areas like Mombasa, Kenya are experiencing warmer temperatures, reaching up to 81°F.

In West Africa, countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal are experiencing warm temperatures, ranging from 77°F to 91°F. For example, Lagos in Nigeria is at 82°F, while Kumasi in Ghana is currently at 91°F.

In Ghana, for instance, extreme weather events, like drought and flooding, are a significant concern. Though there is no such call for prayers as happening for LA, the impacts of the dry season are already telling.

Major fire incidents have been recorded in some major cities of the country in the first two weeks of 2025, and victims continue to count their losses.

Hot and dry conditions mean that if fires ignite, the chances of the blaze spreading are much higher and they are far harder to control.

Like other developing economies, Ghana is presently experiencing more frequent and severe droughts due to climate change, with serious impacts on agriculture, food security, and local livelihoods.

Ghana’s President, John Mahama, has observed “changes in climate conditions, increased population density in urban areas, and mass international travel are enabling existing viruses to spread and mutate at unprecedented rates”.

He believes “this is a serious issue”.

But Ghana’s climate change commitments have suffered the wanton destruction of forests and water bodies through unbridled illegal mining activities.

In 2020, Ghana faced direct economic losses from drought amounting to $95 million. Projections indicate that these losses could escalate to over $325 million annually by 2050 if climate and development actions are not taken.

The effects of droughts are far-reaching, from decreased crop yields and livestock productivity to increased competition for resources, social tensions, and violence. For instance, farmer-herder conflicts over arable land, water, and crop damage caused by trespassing livestock have led to destruction of property, armed robbery, and ethnic marginalization.

The effective implementation of the National Drought Plan will help achieve the goal of providing long-term solutions to land degradation problems and inform policymakers on drought situations.

Time for climate action

The realities of climate change stares in the face of people everywhere, but vulnerable people and communities are most at risk.

Scientists at the World Weather Attribution (WWA) found that climate-worsened disasters killed at least 3,700 people and displaced millions in 2024, a year to be remembered as being the first in recording more than 1.5C hotter than pre-industrial times.

The researchers said climate change had intensified 26 of the 29 weather events they studied during the year. They also found that people around the world experienced, on average, 41 extra days of dangerous heat in 2024 due to human-caused warming.

“The top resolution for 2025 must be transitioning away from fossil fuels, which will make the world a safer and more stable place,” said WWA’s lead Friederike Otto, a senior lecturer in climate science at Imperial College London.

According to him, the “unrelenting suffering” could be alleviated by halting the burning of coal, oil and gas, but instead use renewable energy to power economies, and adapt to climate impacts.

Perhaps the prayers for LA will be backed by climate action: real action to cut emissions from fossils, real action to commit to climate finance for vulnerable countries; real action for adaptation mechanisms to contain risky heat, devastating floods, rising sea levels and powerful storms.

“May our country thrive through new, high-return economic activities driven by innovation, technology, manufacturing, services, and collaboration.”

The bishops also prayed for significant improvements to Ghana’s roads.

“We pray that Ghana will become a nation of beautiful cities and towns with paved roads. May every town and city be transformed with asphalt or concrete roads, removing dusty and unpaved lanes from our communities.”

May dual citizens and all other Ghanaians abroad be encouraged eager and happy to come back home, either to visit or to stay.

Oh God, Ghana’s inflow from remittances is higher compared to cocoa, oil and even gold. The nation generated $28.6 billion from remittances over a 10-year period as compared to $18.7 billion from cocoa and $7.6 billion from gold. (Source: statista.com)

    1. Finally, the Ghana Charismatic Bishop’s Conference prays for Ghana to have a peaceful election in 2024. We pray that the whole nation will peacefully accept and agree with the outcome of the upcoming elections and be a shining example of peaceful democracy to all other nations. May God bless Ghana forevermore!

    1 Timothy 2:1-3 (ERV)

First of all, I ask that you pray for all people. Ask God to bless them and give them what they need. And give thanks. [2] You should pray for rulers and for all who have authority. Pray for these leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceful lives-lives full of devotion to God and respect for him. [3] This is good and pleases God our Savior.

There are only 2 categories of prayers – Spiritualist http://34.58.148.58/there-are-only-2-categories-of-prayers-spiritualist/ Sun, 13 Mar 2022 12:33:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2090623 A spiritualist and herbalist, Dr Anane Boamah, says there is no need to spend much time during prayers and keep repeating the same things over and over because there is a specific pattern that must be followed.

He explained that believers, irrespective of the mode of worship, should rather group what they want from God into two categories to make it well organised and short.

Dr Anane added that there is no need to waste much time in prayers in the traditional realm because the belief is that God is capable of doing all things.

“Whenever the forefathers were to pray, they always have two intentions, they just go to say thank you for doing this for us or ask God to do something for them if they need help,” he noted.

Speaking with Roselyn Felli on the Historical facts and culture of the Ashanti’s on Changes on Joy Prime, he said the proper way to pray is to break the prayers into two.

The first form is to thank God for doing something for you, and lastly, asking God to do something for you.

“In praying, there are only two things ask from God, you either pray to thank God for doing something you or you pray to ask something from God,” he stated.

According to the Spiritualist, prayer is a very important aspect of life that cannot be undermined but has to be done properly to reflect on what the person is after and subsequently receive the blessing.

He lamented how people nowadays waste so much time in just one prayer session due to a lack of respect for tradition, and he emphasised the importance of returning to the old traditions, particularly the Ashanti’s because he believes that was the way of the forefathers.

Kumawood actor, Akwasi Boadi, known as Akrobeto has said that no amount of prayers from the founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, ‘Angel’ Bishop Daniel Obinim can save the dying Kumawood movie industry.

According to him, if the Creative Arts Ministry and industry players fail to adapt to the modern day advances in technology, then the movie industry will continue to fall behind time.

Some faceless movie producers were reportedly mentioned as having visited Bishop Obinim in Kumasi with the aim of seeking help to revive the decline in the patronage of local movies.

Why your prayers aren't 'working' http://34.58.148.58/prayers-arent-working/ Mon, 04 Dec 2017 07:03:12 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=727501 I wish I could say that my prayer life is one defined by consistent authenticity and audacious faith.
But if I’m being honest …
Prayer is one of the places I struggle the most in my walk with God. I struggle with slowing down long enough to pray. I struggle with finding a quiet place and getting alone. I struggle with praying big prayers with big faith. I struggle with being consistent and fervent with my prayers. I even struggle sometimes with following through with a promise I make to pray for someone.
What I realized recently though is that the place I may struggle the most in prayer is actually my expectancy. I’ve discovered my really biggest problem with prayer is that I just go through the motions.
I love our corporate prayer times at church because it reminds me to pray with faith and expectancy. We meet weekly for a dedicated hour of corporate prayer, and it is truly a beautiful sight. It’s also quite obvious that there is a atmosphere of expectancy. There’s really no other way to explain why hundreds of people would show up to pray together in the middle of the week. We don’t just show up to pray. We show up to pray to watch God move.
You might be thinking that it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to go through the trouble of praying if you didn’t expect something to happen—but I can assure you that it is quite easy to do.
In my case, it’s not that I doubt God’s power; it’s just that I so easily fall into a pattern of checklist Christianity.
I make prayer a religious task instead of a natural part of my relationship with Him. Instead of praying with heartfelt expectation, I often find myself just going through the motions. I allow it to become more discipline, than delight—more duty than devotion.
Prayer without expectancy is prayer without power. And what I learned by watching a room filled with expectant prayer is that if I am praying without expectancy then I’m really praying without faith. And prayer without faith is not really prayer at all – it’s just empty religion.
Prayer was never meant to be part of checklist or just a bunch of empty words tossed up in the air. In fact, Jesus specifically warns of this type of heartless, faithless prayer in Matthew 6:7: “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Prayer is simply a conversation with God that is defined by faith. It’s the humble act of taking our natural concerns to a supernatural God.
I don’t really think that the prayer has to look a certain way or sound a certain way to be heard by God. I don’t think that we have to be kneeled by a bed or locked in a prayer closet. And I don’t believe that a long prayer impresses Him or a short prayer disappoints Him. I just think that He wants us to be honest with Him and to pray with whatever faith that we can muster.
We can always pray with expectancy, because God always hears and answers our prayers. It may not be a “Yes”, but it will always be what is best, whether we understand it or not. Tim Keller says, “God will either give us what we ask or give us what we would have asked if we knew everything He knows.”
Never forget that we pray to a God who works wonders (Psalm 77:14). A God who raises the dead and heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3). A God who gives sight to the blind and strength to the weak (Isaiah 40:29). A God who is able to do far above anything we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
Prayer is far too powerful to allow routine or religion to steal its effectiveness.

Prayers only will not take you to heaven – Lawyer Adofo to Ghanaian leaders http://34.58.148.58/prayers-will-not-take-heaven-lawyer-adofo-ghanaian-leaders/ Fri, 16 Jun 2017 06:29:43 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=186301 A Private Legal Practitioner Kwame Adofo has lashed out at Ghanaian leaders describing them as hypocrites for turning blind eye to wrong doings in the country.

According to him, Ghanaians have been brainwashed into believing that prayer is the key to heaven.

Lawyer Adofo wondered why Ghanaians’ attitudes and conducts do not reflect the Christian way of life describing prayers by Ghanaians as ‘facade’.

‘…We are in a country that paradoxically supposed to be rich and yet we are so poor. And that is because good men and women are refusing to stand up to wrong and evil. When good men do nothing, evil grows and that is why I always describe this country as very hypocritical. In the sense that we have so many people who claim to be Christians and yet our attitudes and conducts are not reflection of a Christian way of life.

‘So when I see people praying and wasting our ears, preaching near our windows and disturbing us, I say they will go home and do bad things, perpetrating the wrongs in society without actually changing. All these noise making, preaching are just facade. Its not the true reflection of a Christian country. It tells you we are not honest people, because we have been brainwashed into thinking that when we make noise, pray, we are going to heaven,’ he pointed out.

The Supreme Court ordered the Auditor General to surcharge people who have embezzled State funds. The ruling came into force after pressure group Occupy Ghana filed a suit against the Auditor General.

But speaking on Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he bemoaned the lack of enthusiasm by Ghanaian leaders to implement laws, calling on them to bow their heads in shame for refusing to retrieve monies owed the State.

Juxtaposing Ghana to the Western world, he said those in charge of child support have powers to make arrest and defaulters are made to pay the money asking why the situation is different in Ghana.

He indicated that laws work in the the Western world than Ghana where there are clear evidence to prosecute State looters.

Lawyer Adofo said tax payers monies are squandered by few individuals saying the country will burn if Ghana does not enforce laws by punishing State looters.

‘No the case didn’t need to go to court but we have become a people who are recalcitrant by not letting the law work,… that some citizens who means well for this country had to take that matter back to the court. Its a very sad reflection of our lives… We are in a country where we have laws but certain people are refusing to implement the laws. It means we are lost, you chop, I chop, everybody go home happy, the roads and schools don’t get built, nothing gets done that is the state of affairs now. And I think its very sad, to me I think its shameful on the part of our leadership, the whole country is in a mess not because God doesn’t like us, far from it,’ he said

He questioned why Ghanaian leaders have not been able to retrieve monies Alfred Agbesi Woyome owes the State.

The Private Legal Practitioner observed that Ghana is endowed …but ‘wicked’ leaders have turned it into a poor country where its citizens are suffering.

He said leaders, Christians and Muslims have failed the country by not being reflections of what they preach saying the country is bleeding.

‘This country is rich and endowed but some bad people living under the guise of Christianity and religious differences so to speak, Muslims and Christians we are pretending not to do the right thing, example of why the country is in a mess is Woyome’s situation, a court has found that he has to refund the money and yet our public officers are refusing to take action. Its a very sad situation that we don’t have good men and women who can do die for this country, because I don’t know how we can rescue ourselves from this mess,’ he stated.

Owusu-Bempah leads Akufo-Addo prayers http://34.58.148.58/owusu-bempah-leads-akufo-addo-prayers/ Tue, 11 Apr 2017 06:55:39 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=71181 Prophet Isaac Owusu-Bempah, leader of the Glorious Word Ministry in collaboration with the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi will be organizing intercessory prayers for the nation.

The intercessory prayers which is expected to take place in all the ten regions of Ghana is to seek the face of God for the nation and the success of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government.

The renowned and outspoken man of God, Prophet Owusu Bempah is leading the prayer crusade with the support of other Christian religious bodies and the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Speaking in interview with NEWSW-ONE, Prophet Bempah said there is the need for Christians in this country to rise up and pray for the nation at all times.

This according to him is to invoke the blessing of God upon the country and avert any calamity from befalling the nation.

“We must pray against premature deaths, accidents and other strange things happening in this country. There is also the need for us to pray for the President and his Vice, Dr. Bawumia so they can fulfill their promises made to Ghanaians.”

“They need our prayer support to deliver. Without God’s intervention they can do nothing because they are human beings and it is only God who can help them fulfill their promises to Ghanaians,” he said.

Explaining why he has availed himself to pray for President Akufo Addo and his government, Prophet Bempah said every president or leader needs spiritual support to be successful.

Making reference to the Holy Bible, he said “God raised King Solomon with Nathan; David with Samuel; Pharaoh with Joseph; and Ahasuerus with Esther and Mordecai.

“So every leader needs spiritual support. That is why I have availed myself to pray for Nana Addo to succeed,” he said.

Prophetic Council

In view of the task ahead, Prophet Bempah formed a Christian Body called Prophetic Apostolic Council (PAC) which will have Ministers of God from different churches coming together to intercede in prayers for the President, Vice, Ministers and the entire nation.

He said the mission of the Council is to intercede for Ghana to forestall any machinations of the devil.

“The Council aims to grow on the pillars and principles of truth that is enshrined in the Bible- as members and leaders on the Council are devoted men of God who are committed to the principle of righteous living”, he said.

Prophet Owusu Bempah noted that the Council would also look at prophesies that come to the President and the entire nation and give directions as to how these prophesies could be manifested.

He called on all apostolic and Prophetic churches to get ready to work under the established Apostolic Prophetic Council to build a society that fears and respects God.
