According to the EC, this move was necessary to ensure the safety of its staff and uphold the integrity of the electoral process in the face of escalating threats and disruptions.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, December 19, Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, highlighted the Ablekuma North and Okaikwei Central constituencies as key examples of where these adjustments were implemented.

She explained that relocating the collation centres to the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office was essential to safeguard personnel and protect the process from undue interference.

Jean Mensa said the EC had taken measures to ensure transparency and fairness by informing all political parties of the changes and providing clear guidelines for representation at the new collation centres.

However, these guidelines were not adhered to, leading to a suspension of the process.

“In several instances, our staff faced death threats and were forced to declare outcomes without following the required collation procedures,” she stated. “Despite our discussions with the Ghana Police Service to secure protection in affected areas, threats persisted.”

She further explained, “As a result of these threats and the subsequent disruption of the collation process, the EC, in agreement with the Ghana Police Service, relocated the collation centres for the Ablekuma North and Okaikwei Central constituencies to the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office. Political parties were notified of this decision and instructed to present two agents each for representation.”

EC suspends re-collation of four Parliamentary results at Police Training School http://34.58.148.58/ec-suspends-re-collation-of-four-parliamentary-results-at-police-training-school/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 14:02:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483482

The Electoral Commission (EC) has temporarily suspended the re-collation of parliamentary results for several constituencies at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, following escalating disagreements among the political parties involved.

The exercise, initiated earlier this week to address discrepancies in results from various constituencies, was paused to allow for further consultations with the parties.

On December 12, 2024, the EC enlisted the support of the Police to ensure maximum security at the venue, aiming to protect personnel and facilitate a smooth collation process.

However, tensions between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) intensified, resulting in significant disruptions.

The disagreements primarily revolved around concerns over the accuracy of the electoral results.

The NDC alleged discrepancies in the pink sheets from certain constituencies, while the NPP expressed frustration over the EC’s handling of the process and delays in resolving the issues.

In response to the impasse, the EC announced a temporary halt to the re-collation, emphasizing the need for further engagement with all stakeholders to ensure transparency and fairness.

The re-collation aimed to address disputes in constituencies such as Suhum, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia in the Eastern Region, where the initial results had been contested.

The EC has assured the public that the process will resume once an agreement is reached among the parties and all outstanding issues are clarified.

In the meantime, the suspension remains in effect as the EC works to restore order and build confidence in the electoral process.

Nsawam-Adoagyiri recollation: NDC supporters mass up at Police Training School http://34.58.148.58/nsawam-adoagyiri-recollation-ndc-supporters-mass-up-at-police-training-school/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 08:01:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483216

Some angry members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on December 12 gathered in large numbers outside the National Police Training School to express their dissatisfaction with the recent recollation of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri election results.

The demonstration reflected growing frustration among NDC supporters, who voiced their concerns and demanded immediate attention from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Police.

The protesters called for accountability and transparency, urging the swift resolution of their grievances.

In an interview on Channel One News, NDC members who had traveled from Nsawam-Adoagyiri stated their intention to spend the night at the police school, despite the EC’s directive to reconvene the next morning at 6 a.m.

This action underscored the escalating tensions surrounding the electoral process and the NDC’s commitment to their cause.

One NDC member remarked, “We will sleep here, we will not go home. We came here with some of our leaders.” Another added, “We know our candidate won the seat, but they are trying everything to change the results. If they do anything fishy, we will not accept the results. But if it’s transparent, we will accept them.”

Another supporter stated, “Annoh-Dompreh has lost the seat, we voted against him, so we don’t know why he’s still fighting.”

The recollation process had sparked a prior disagreement between the NPP and NDC. An agreement was reached to delay the recollation until December 13.

However, incumbent MP Annoh-Dompreh insisted that the results should be collated, stating he would remain at the Police Training School until the process was completed and the results were announced. He arrived at the school early on December 12, following an assurance from the EC that the results would be recollated.

As of now, the NPP has confirmed wins in three seats—Akwatia, Fanteakwa North, and Suhum—following a recount.
