Ashanti Regional Crime Officer, ACP Peter Baba, says the attackers shot at police officers who had then arrested Marcus Anang for possessing a single-barrel gun and three cartridges.

Police explain that the attackers laid ambush and shot into the officers who had attempted to dismantle the second roadblock, injuring the offices in the process.

“Just as they were getting to the roadblock, they saw one person with the single-barreled gun; they ordered him to lay down that arm which he complied and he was arrested.

“There was another barrier in front. Before they got to that roadblock, they heard several gunshots and the police commander was shot in the neck and some parts of the face, and then two CPUs [Community Police Unit] also sustained gunshot wounds,” ACP Baba told Journalists.

According to ACP Baba, ASP Boateng who received the neck and facial gunshot wounds and currently on admission at KATH is recovering.

“His condition seems to be stable. We have been told by the medical doctors on duty that a Urologist is supposed to attend to him, an X-ray is supposed to be taken before they can actually know whether his condition is critical or not,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police say it is treating the case an attempted murder of the police personnel.

“We are treating it as attempted murder. The attack on the police is an attempt to murder the policemen who went there.

“This is a criminal act which we are taking seriously. It was an attempt to murder the police officers who were performing their mandatory duty,” ACP Baba added.

Even dogs in Agogo hate Police Commander – MP reveals http://34.58.148.58/even-dogs-agogo-hate-police-commander-mp-reveals/ Tue, 09 Jan 2018 18:14:17 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=822391 Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North has described as timely the transfer of Asante Akim-North District Police Commander, ASP Samuel Azugu.
Andy Appiah Kubi blamed the commander for the worsening security crisis involving nomadic herdsmen in the area.
ASP Samuel Azugu was relieved of his post following allegations that he owns cows which are under the care of Fulani herdsmen.
His new replacement has been announced by the police service as DSP Joe Appiah.
ASP Azugu transfer comes after the community leaders at Agogo in the Asante Akim North district of the Ashanti region said they have lost confidence in the police commander.
In support, the MP for the area said he was happy with the transfer because the commander was complicit in the security crisis that has claimed many lives in the area.
Due to the unprofessional conduct of ASP Azugu, he noted that “even dogs here in Agogo don’t want to work with him. He didn’t help us. He could not help us”.
Hon. Appiah Kubi said they have evidence to back all the allegations being leveled against the Police Commander but will provide at the appropriate platform.
“The District Commander is inciting the herdsmen against our people. We have evidence that the herdsmen bring him beef. The commander also has cattle which the herdsmen are rearing for him,” the NPP MP said.
The Asante Akyem North MP thanked the both Divisional and Regional Police Command for granting their request to replace the district commander.
Hon. Appiah Kubi pledged his unflinching support for the new Police Commander, DSP Joe Appiah to ensure they win the Fulani fight.
