Ibrahim Sannie Daara has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reassess its charges against Elmina Sharks owner, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, following a violent incident at the Nduom Sports Stadium.

The controversy arose during a match on Sunday, where All Blacks were awarded a penalty and won 1-0. After the game, an altercation broke out with the referee.

Dr. Nduom expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating on social media, leading the GFA to charge him with violating Division One League regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code.

The GFA also accused Dr. Nduom of inciting violence among players, officials, and fans, resulting in misconduct and tarnishing the reputation of the game.

However, Daara, a former spokesperson for the GFA, stressed the important role business figures like Dr. Nduom play in advancing football in Ghana. He urged the GFA to reconsider pursuing charges, pointing out that charging individuals is not always the best course of action.

Daara further noted that Dr. Nduom had tried to calm the crowd on the pitch, suggesting that a more patient and diplomatic approach was needed to resolve the issue.

“We need people like Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom to invest in our game,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“Regardless of what has happened, it shouldn’t always be about charging people. I’ve heard an account that he even went on the pitch to calm the fans, so let’s exercise patience in decision-making.”

The Senior CAF Media Officer also warned that if Dr. Nduom withdrew his support, it could have serious repercussions for the Division One League.

“What if he gets frustrated and dissolves the team? He has his own stadium, and the GFA should consider these things. Any decision he makes will affect the Division One League, and we must also remember that he has previously sponsored the league,” he added.

“Maybe he is wrong, but sometimes, diplomacy is needed to resolve such issues,” Daara concluded.

Dr. Nduom has until Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to formally respond to the charges.

Nduom accuses GFA of conflict of interest http://34.58.148.58/nduom-accuses-gfa-of-conflict-of-interest/ Mon, 17 Feb 2025 11:48:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2505319 Elmina Sharks’ owner, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA), accusing its leadership of a conflict of interest in managing the Ghana Premier League.

The prominent businessman expressed frustration over the poor administration of the league, citing issues such as the lack of a headline sponsor, television broadcaster, and rising incidents of hooliganism that have plagued the competition.

The situation worsened following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong (also known as Nana Pooley), during a Matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park.

In an interview with GTV Sports Plus+, Dr. Nduom questioned the governance structure of Ghanaian football, specifically the roles of club owners within the GFA leadership.

“The people who run the league, there is a conflict of interest,” he stated. “Why should an owner of a team be President of the GFA, why should an owner of a team be a vice-president of the GFA?”

“We can’t sack them because people’s hands are in their mouth. Can you go and sack the people who are there now? No,” he added.

Ironically, Elmina Sharks have also faced controversy, as their players and supporters were allegedly involved in hooliganism against Swedru All Blacks in a Division One match. This occurred just weeks after Pooley’s death and during his one-week memorial.

“Isn’t it a consequence of what has been happening in the country? If you let people misbehave from Premier, Division One, Division Two, what do you expect? If I was not at the stadium, what do you think would have happened?” Dr. Nduom questioned.

Meanwhile, Sharks’ player Jay Asamoah has been charged by the GFA for breaching Section 13 (1) (k) of the GFA’s Disciplinary Code for allegedly assaulting referee Eso Doh Morrison.
