The promotion follows two separate parades of honour the group held for Otumfuo—first at the Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026, and at the first Akwasidae of the year at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Addressing the Akwasidae celebration, the IGP explained that the Ladies’ guard of honour was their humble way of expressing the Ghana Police Service’s profound appreciation for Otumfuo’s unprecedented visit to the police headquarters.

“We have these ladies called royal ladies. We named them after Otumfuo. They have come to grace the occasion and to make the first of its kind in the Manhyia Palace, and also attended by many of our POMAB members here this afternoon.”

“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard. They have distinguished themselves and are only available to do anything possible to make Ghana proud, and for this being the first of its kind to honour Otumfuo at the National Police headquarters and also being the first of its kind to visit the Manhyia Palace, the police administration decided to promote them to the next rank,” Mr Yuhonu stated.

The visit, dubbed the “Royal Visit”, marks the first official engagement by the Asantehene with the leadership of the Police Service in the national capital.

He was accompanied by his chiefs, political leaders from the Ashanti Region, and other distinguished dignitaries.

Addressing the final 2025 meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on Friday, December 19, 2025, the King of the Asante Kingdom kicked against the move, citing precedence and customs.

The controversy centres on proposed amendments to the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759), pushed by the National House of Chiefs, led by Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.

The proposal seeks to establish a ‘Chamber of Queenmothers’ and grant them seats alongside chiefs in formal sittings to promote gender equity.

However, JoyNews’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent Nana Boakye Yiadom reported that the Otumfuo described the move as a dangerous overreach that threatens the unique fabric of Asante custom.

While acknowledging the “critical role” queenmothers play—particularly in the matrilineal Asante system where they hold the veto power to select a chief—Otumfuo argued that the status quo must remain.

• Customary Precedent: In Asante tradition, the queenmother (Ohemaa) is the “mother” of the stool, but the chief acts as the public voice.
• Matrilineal Distinction: Otumfuo warned against mixing patrilineal and matrilineal systems into a one-size-fits-all law.

Speaking in the Twi language at the meeting on Friday, the Asantehene stated, “We have to let Ghanaians know that traditions and customs differ across various areas. No one should create rules that bind everyone… Our tradition is that they [queenmothers] offer advice behind closed doors,” he stated. “I will not allow anyone in Ghana to change my culture.”

“We respect them for selecting chiefs. All of us in this room were selected by women who are queenmothers. Our tradition is that they offer advice behind closed doors,” he explained.

The Rising Tide of Advocacy: The Queenmothers’ Case

The Asantehene’s fierce stance comes amid a growing national movement for female inclusion.

The All Regions Queenmothers Association, led by Nana Otubea II, has been advocating for representation on the Judicial Committees of the Houses of Chiefs.

They argue that it is “unfair and discriminatory” for cases involving queenmothers to be decided by all-male panels.

Their campaign has gained momentum following the passage of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121), which mandates a 30% quota for women in decision-making bodies.

Legal experts suggest that Otumfuo’s remarks set the stage for a constitutional clash between the Chieftaincy Act and Article 270 of the Constitution, which guarantees the institution of chieftaincy as established by customary law.

If the government moves forward with the amendments to Act 759, it may face a traditional rebellion from the Ashanti Region, the most influential traditional bloc in the country.

For now, the King has made his position clear: the doors of the House of Chiefs remain closed to public debate by queenmothers.

The president opined that the revered traditional ruler has proven he belongs not only to Ashanti but to the entire nation.

“Otumfuo has shown that he is a national asset,” President Mahama said, commending the Asantehene for undertaking what he described as an honourable duty in the service of God and country.

The President expressed satisfaction with Otumfuo’s decision to personally read and make public the findings of the mediation process, describing the move as a mark of transparency and leadership.

He noted that by publicly presenting the report, the entire nation has been given the opportunity to understand the issues clearly and act on the recommendations without delay.

Background

The Bawku conflict, which has persisted for decades in the Upper East Region, is rooted in ethnic tensions and competing claims to chieftaincy authority.

The violence has led to repeated clashes, loss of lives as well as displacement of residents and disruptions to economic and social life in the area.

In a bid to find a lasting solution, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was invited to lead a mediation process bringing together key stakeholders including traditional leaders, community representatives and state institutions.

His involvement was widely welcomed, given his track record in conflict resolution and peace-building across the country.

President Mahama expressed confidence that the transparency surrounding the mediation report would help restore trust among the parties involved and allow the nation to move swiftly towards sustainable peace in Bawku.

He spoke at the last Asanteman Council meeting of the year 2025 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Otumfuo was appointed earlier in 2025 by President Mahama to spearhead mediation aimed at resolving the long-running chieftaincy conflict that has plagued the Bawku municipality for decades.

The mediation process commenced in April, with the Asantehene holding separate consultations with leaders and representatives of the rival factions to lay the groundwork for dialogue and confidence-building.

Although the talks experienced a brief pause, they resumed in May 2025 and have since helped to ease tensions, contributing to a period of relative calm in the previously volatile area.

The report to be presented to the President is expected to highlight progress made so far, outline key challenges, and offer recommendations to guide the next phase of government intervention towards achieving sustainable peace in Bawku.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces say security presence in the area has been reinforced to maintain law and order as mediation efforts continue.

His Majesty made the call on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where he presided over a landmark face-to-face meeting between delegations representing the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities.

In a press release from his Chief of Staff, Kofi Badu, the King thanked both sides for their civility and maturity, stressing the inevitability of coexistence. “He urged the leaders to start preparing the minds of their supporters to put an end permanently to violence and disorder in their communities,” the statement read.

The meeting, held in the Jubilee Hall, saw Chief Tarana John Wuni Grunah leading a 30-member team for the Naayiri, Overlord of Mamprugu, while Naba Tambis Baalug of Pusiga headed the delegation for the Bawku Naaba and the Kusasi people. Former MP Cletus Avoka and Dr. Issah acted as spokespersons for the Kusasi and Mamprusi delegations, respectively.

This final session followed months of separate consultations, during which Otumfuo listened to arguments from both sides in a bid to find a lasting solution to the conflict that has plagued the Bawku Traditional Area for years, causing loss of lives and displacing residents.

According to the palace, the meeting was cordial, with both sides emphasising their shared heritage and the senselessness of the conflict.

The Asantehene is now set to compile a report with his proposals for President John Dramani Mahama.

“His Majesty announced that he would submit his report with his proposals to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama in the next few days,” the release stated, adding that the King hopes the President will “act expeditiously” to convene a formal meeting of all parties to announce the mediation outcome.

The ceremony was conducted by Nana Barima Okugyesuo Adunan II of Kuntase in the Ashanti Region, under the directive of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The event, which ended a decade-long leadership dispute in Worawora, was supervised by Otumfuo’s personal linguist, Okyeame Bonsu. It drew traditional leaders from Kuntase, Kokofu, Tapa Amanya, Buem-Jasikan, Apesokubi, and Worawora, including Nana Kwaku Aborah III, Sanahene of the Worawora Traditional Council.

The family took turns consoling the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, over the passing of the Queen Mother.

A delegation led by the Saamanhene paid a solemn visit to the Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 4, 2025, to perform the traditional rites of notification to the revered monarch.

His remarks follow a violent clash between security forces and some youth in Bawku on Thursday, April 10, which reportedly resulted in casualties and injuries.

The private residence of the area’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, was also allegedly set ablaze during the unrest.

Speaking at the Graduation Parade of the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11, 2025, President Mahama described the incident as tragic and called for calm.

“The Ghana Armed Forces is responding to various threats to maintain peace and security in the country. One of the key flashpoints remains the Bawku area. Just two days ago, a confrontation in the market resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of property. Let me emphasize—no one benefits from such violence and insecurity,” he said.

The President reiterated his administration’s support for the Otumfuo-led mediation, describing it as the most credible path toward lasting peace.

“We have activated the Otumfuo-led mediation process, which involves all key stakeholders and aims to chart a clear roadmap to peace. I’ve been assured by the Asantehene that discussions will resume next week upon his return from abroad,” he noted.

President Mahama also stressed the need for justice and accountability.

“All allegations of criminal activity will be taken seriously. Our security agencies will thoroughly investigate and bring perpetrators to book—regardless of who they are. But let me be clear—we have no interest in political theatrics or distractions,” he added.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Asantehene, H.M. Otumfour Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace, as part of his working visit to the Ashanti Region, John Abdulai Jinapor, highlighted ongoing interventions, including the installation of a new transformer, to improve power supply.

He informed Otumfour that the newly installed transformer, which replaces an older 66MVA unit, has more than double the capacity of the previous system.

This upgrade, he noted, will significantly enhance power distribution in Kumasi and beyond.

“The electricity demand has been increasing, and the existing infrastructure was unable to keep up. With the completion of this transformer new 145MVA, we expect a remarkable improvement in power delivery,” Jinapor said.

Me. Jinapor further addressed the power rationing (load shedding) issues that have affected businesses and households, revealing that at its peak in December, Ghana experienced up to 750 megawatts of load shedding.

He, however, assured that the power supply situation has since stabilised, with Ghana, exporting excess electricity to neighboring countries.

According to the Minister, despite these improvements, more work needs to be done to achieve a fully stable energy supply.

He stressed the need for a comprehensive approach, including power generation, transmission, and distribution, to ensure long-term stability.

“We are working around the clock to resolve these challenges and guarantee a reliable power supply. Beyond generating enough power, we need to effectively transmit and distribute it to consumers,” he said.

Me. Jinapor commended the technical team for completing the new transformer installation, acknowledging that the transition between transformers caused some temporary disruptions.

He assured Otumfour that the situation has been resolved, and the region will receive improved service moving forward.

Additionally, he urged power providers in the Ashanti Region to improve communication with consumers, particularly during scheduled maintenance or emergency power switches, to minimize panic and inconvenience.

Mr. Jinapor hinted at ambitious plans to make Kumasi a major power generation hub, with multiple plants expected to be operational in the coming years.  He indicated that these projects could contribute up to 500 megawatts of electricity from the region, further strengthening Ghana’s energy security.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the country’s energy challenges and ensuring uninterrupted power supply for both residential and industrial users.

On his part, H.M. the Asantehene expressed gratitude to the Minister and his team of engineers for the swift response to addressing the power challenges in the Ashanti Region.

Otumfour Osei Tutu II assured the Minister of his support while he worked to improve the power situation in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region in general.

The Minister, as part of the visit inspected the newly commissioned GRIDCo’s 145MVA Transformer at Anwomaso, the Ameri Plant, the construction of the AKSA plant, the construction of the Cenit Plant, the ECG double circuit tower line from Anwomaso BSP to the Airport Junction.

The Minister was accompanied by officials from the Ministry, VRA, GRIDCo, and ECG.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, Otumfuo proposed a mixed-support system similar to previous practices, where bursaries were awarded to needy but deserving students while those who could afford it paid their way.

“Those who can afford to pay, let’s have a second look at the policy. If someone can afford it, let’s allow them to pay,” he stated.

He acknowledged that while the Free SHS policy has expanded access to education, a national dialogue is needed to address its challenges and ensure sustainability.

“This Free SHS we are talking about—although we have implemented it—if students are sent home frequently because there is no food, then it is not fit for purpose,” he cautioned.

Otumfuo also highlighted critical infrastructure and logistical challenges affecting senior high schools, including overcrowded dormitories, the lack of science and ICT laboratories, food shortages, and inadequate school buses.

“Our dormitories are overcrowded and lack science and ICT labs. Sometimes, PTA contributions help, but the lack of school buses and food shortages should all be addressed. Let’s implement the policy properly so students can stay in school and have enough to eat,” he urged.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP, on Friday, February 14, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Disclosing the purpose of his visit, the minister, who was accompanied by some heads of agencies under his ministry, stated that the blessings of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II are of paramount importance to him and the government.

Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah explained that as the government embarks on a mission to reform the mining and forest sub-sectors of the country, the support and guidance of Otumfuo would be extremely important.

The courtesy call was also to seek Otumfuo’s buy-in for the programs and projects under the ministry.

He eulogized the Asantehene for his outstanding and exemplary leadership, which has contributed to the absence of land-related disputes in the Ashanti Region. He also humbly appealed to Otumfuo to share his wisdom and leadership as he seeks to transform the lands sector through innovative and transformative projects.

On the issue of illegal mining, Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah commended Otumfuo for his past interventions and appealed for his continued support as the government charts a new path, which he believes will lead to a complete turnaround in the situation.

He decried the devastating impact of galamsey on the country, noting that 44 out of the nation’s 288 forest reserves have been destroyed by illegal mining activities. He also lamented the increasing turbidity levels of major water bodies, which have risen from 5,000 NTU to 12,000 NTU.

Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah emphasized the urgency of the situation and outlined some immediate and radical initiatives taken by the government to address the problem.

The measures include the establishment of an 18-member committee of experts to review the licensing regime, the reclassification of mining categories, and the overhaul of the Community Mining Scheme, among others.

“We are very grateful for Otumfuo’s advice and support for the reset agenda we’ve embarked on. We’ve laid out a plan to address key initiatives, beginning with the inauguration of the 18-member working committee. We are also reclassifying the mining categories and introducing medium-scale mining,” he indicated.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the lands minister for the visit and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver. He also urged the heads of agencies and other officials under the ministry to give him the necessary support.

However, Otumfuo admonished Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah to address the root cause of illegal mining—youth unemployment.

He asserted that if the youth in mining areas are provided with meaningful and sustainable sources of livelihood, they would resist the temptation of mining in water bodies and forest reserves.

He also encouraged the government to go after the “big fishes” in the galamsey business by apprehending and prosecuting them, instead of focusing only on the youth who engage in mining for survival. He further urged the ministry to develop an alternative livelihood program to support the youth.

On the issue of public lands, Otumfuo advised the lands minister to ensure that the indiscriminate sale of public lands to government officials is halted under his tenure.

He praised the minister for the aggressive afforestation initiative and pledged his support for the project, citing the Tree for Life initiative as a laudable effort.

On his part, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, thanked Otumfuo for his support and advice and assured him that he would work with his colleague ministers to tackle the galamsey menace.

Earlier, Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah joined the Ministers of Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and Defence, Hon. Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah, as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister, to tour the Afari Military Hospital. The project, which was initiated by the Mahama-led government in 2014, had stalled under the Akufo-Addo administration.

His comments came after a visit to the Asantehene on Friday, February 14, where discussions centered on efforts to bring lasting peace to the troubled area.

Dr. Boamah reaffirmed that Otumfuo has been instrumental in leading the traditional aspect of the peace process.

“Otumfuo is the traditional leader who has been leading efforts to find a traditional solution to the dispute,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of chieftaincy in conflict resolution.

He further assured that the government remains committed to complementing Otumfuo’s efforts with security interventions to restore sustainable peace.

This two-pronged approach seeks to address both the underlying traditional tensions and immediate security concerns in Bawku.

The Defence Minister expressed confidence that collaboration between government authorities and traditional leaders would yield a meaningful resolution.

He reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to working closely with Otumfuo and other key stakeholders to ensure lasting stability in the region.

She paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace to seek his prayers and blessings following the completion of her second record attempt at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Stadium, in Kumasi.

Afua Asantewaa described the meeting as a momentous way to begin 2025 as she received immense blessings from the revered king on the year’s first Awukudae.

The Asantehene’s endorsement is expected to inspire her journey and motivate her supporters as she works towards making history.

Afua Asantewaa has set an incredible milestone by completing a singing marathon that lasted 121 hours and 39 minutes.

The attempt began at midnight on December 24, 2023, and concluded at midnight on December 29, 2023.

If verified, this feat will break the current Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, held by Sunil Waghmare of India, who sang for 105 hours in March 2012.

Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by his running mate, visited the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday to formally express gratitude to the Asantehene for his “wise counsel and encouragement” as he concludes his campaign.

Addressing Dr. Bawumia, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed appreciation for the gesture, recalling the Vice President’s earlier visit to seek his blessings before starting the campaign.

“Before you started, you were here to inform me about your decision to contest for President. And before you started your campaign, you were here again to inform me and seek my blessings,” the Asantehene remarked.

The Asantehene commended Dr. Bawumia for conducting a decent, issues-based campaign, highlighting the NPP’s achievements and future plans.

“I’m happy that you have done exactly what you assured me you’d do. I thank God that you have completed your campaign successfully in all 275 constituencies. The rest is in the hands of God,” said Otumfuo.

On the upcoming election, Otumfuo reaffirmed his earlier prayers and blessings for Dr. Bawumia, urging him to trust in God’s sovereignty.

“My son, remain faithful in God because it is God who installs kings. You have done your part to sell what the party has done for Ghana and what you also want to do to continue,” he noted. “I have already blessed you. As you are here, I will bless you again. I urge you to place your affairs in the hands of God, for God’s power to manifest.”

The Asantehene also advised Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Opoku Prempeh to remain united and work harmoniously.

“I want to advise you and your running mate that you should continue to work together and stay united. I pray to God and our ancestors to stay behind you so that whatever you are doing will be successful,” he added.

The AngloGold 6th Otumfuo Golf Tournament was held over the weekend in Obuasi, bringing together golfing enthusiasts from various regions of the country.

The annual invitational tournament hosted by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu is not just a showcase of golfing talent but also a celebration of the close partnership between two significant golfing communities in Ghana—the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi and the Obuasi Golf Club.

Over the years, this collaboration has deepened, contributing to the development of the sport and strengthening social ties between the two clubs.

The tournament attracted golfers from all over the country, ranging from seasoned players to emerging talents competing in various categories.

This event continues to solidify its place as a key highlight on Ghana’s golfing calendar, fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship while promoting the growth of golf in the region.

It also reflects the commitment of the Asantehene and the golfing community to preserving and expanding the sport’s reach in Ghana.

The visit formed part of his three-week Caravan Campaign Tour in the Ashanti Region as he rallies support ahead of the 7th December general election.

During the visit, Alan Kyerematen took the opportunity to formally introduce his young running mate, Mr Kwame Owusu Danso, to the Asantehene.

He explained that, his choice of a youthful running mate, emphasizing that the older generation needed to prepare the younger ones to assume leadership roles.

Citing Kwame Owusu Danso’s impressive credentials as a former musician, footballer for Kumapim Stars, lawyer, and broadcast journalist, Mr Kyerematen asserted that the young man was more than equipped to take on the mantle of leadership.

The traditional leaders at the Manhyia Palace, known for their wisdom and experience, took turns to eulogize the venerable trade and industry icon.

They expressed their admiration for Alan Kyerematen’s vision for the nation and bestowed their blessings on his candidacy in the upcoming elections.

The mood in the palace was one of reverence and excitement, as they welcomed the leader who many consider a true son of the soil.

In his response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II praised Alan Kyerematen for his humility and his well-thought-out development blueprint, which he believed could transform the nation.

The Asantehene’s support is a huge endorsement that has electrified the Ashanti Region, which is considered a vital political stronghold.

Alan Kyerematen is a royal of Ejisu and a descendant of the legendary Queen Mother, Yaa Asantewaa.

His late father, Alexander Atta Yaw Kyerematen, was the founder of the National Culture Centre in Kumasi and played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Asante culture and heritage.

As Mr Kyerematen embarks on his 21-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, the palpable excitement on the ground suggests that the region is ready to throw its full weight behind the man they fondly call Chief.

Kinaata has disclosed that the Asantehene’s mention has significantly improved his numbers on social media as well as his revenue streams.

What the Otumfuo said

Earlier, during the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, Kofi Kinaata was mentioned and extolled in Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s speech.

The Asantehene highlighted the importance of appreciating Ghana by quoting the phrase ‘Obi nya wayɛ’ from Kinaata’s hit song ‘Susuka.’

He emphasized that despite various challenges, many countries aspire to be like Ghana, and he encouraged citizens to reflect on Kinaata’s insightful lyrics.

This came after Otumfuo mentioned Kinaata during a speech at the Ghana Bar Association conference in Kumasi.

Kinaata revealed that, the King’s mention of his name has led to a noticeable rise in his social media engagements, views, and music streams.

The boy, affectionately known as Chief Justice, had performed a traditional dance holding a red Asafo flag inscribed with “Akwaaba Otumfuo” to greet the Asantehene.

In a heartwarming gesture, Otumfuo invited the boy to sit closer to him.

However, when the boy needed to visit the washroom, he unexpectedly asked the Asantehene to hold his flag until he returned.

In a brief conversation, the boy handed the flag to Otumfuo and left. The other chiefs present burst into laughter at the boy’s boldness, but Otumfuo, with a smile, graciously held onto the flag.

One of the chiefs offered to take the flag from Otumfuo, but the king declined, choosing to keep it until the boy returned and reclaimed it.

This endearing exchange between the young boy and the Asantehene captured the attention of many, highlighting the warmth and humility of the king during his visit.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is attending the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, an annual festival celebrated by the people of Cape Coast (Oguaa).

The festival, which typically takes place in the first week of September, is one of the most significant cultural events in Ghana’s Central Region. It marks the 60th anniversary of the festival this year, adding even more grandeur to the celebrations.

The festival begins with a regatta, featuring a canoe race among traditional Asafo companies, followed by a series of cultural performances, including the popular “ampatampa” dance.

Chiefs, queen mothers, and other traditional leaders take part in a grand procession through the streets, where the Omanhen (chief) of Cape Coast casts a ceremonial net to predict the abundance of the year’s harvest.

This year’s festival has attracted special attention due to the anticipated presence of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, marking his historic debut at the Fetu Afahye.

His presence is seen as a symbol of unity and cultural strength, emphasizing the enduring ties between the Ashanti Kingdom and other regions of Ghana.

According to reports, the plaintiffs have agreed to withdraw their suits in court.

During a meeting convened on Friday at Otumfuo’s request, Isaac Mensah, a staff member of the KNUST Stores Department, and Clement Ohene Asare, a KNUST alumnus, both of whom had filed separate lawsuits at the Kumasi High Court against the university’s Governing Council and the Vice-Chancellor, consented to withdraw their cases.

The legal challenges were to contest the procedure by which the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, got a two-year extension after completing her first term on August 1.

The plaintiffs claimed that, the Governing Council had committed a procedural error in approving the extension, failing to follow the regulations stipulated in KNUST’s governing constitution.

After hearing the plaintiffs’ concerns, Otumfuo urged them to withdraw the lawsuits to avoid disruptions to the university’s academic activities and ensure the institution’s smooth functioning while he works to address any unresolved issues.

Upon his arrival at Prempeh I Airport in Kumasi, he was greeted by a delegation from the Manhyia Palace.

Otumfuo was then driven to the Manhyia Palace, where he is expected to rest and resume his leadership duties over Asanteman.

During his time in the UK, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II met with King Charles III on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Sandringham House.

The Royal Family announced the Asantehene’s visit on social media.

“The King welcomes The Asantehene – Ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana – to Sandringham House.

His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was in the UK as part of his Silver Jubilee celebrations,” accompanied by a photo of the two royals shaking hands warmly.

The Asantehene also delivered a lecture at the inaugural Black Heritage Network Symposium hosted by Citibank UK.

Themed “Celebrating Asante Legacy, Excellence and Partnerships,” the event allowed him to address and correct misconceptions about Asante-British history.

The highlight of Otumfuo’s visit was the Akwasidae festival, celebrated on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in London as part of his 25th-anniversary celebrations as the King of Asanteman.

The streets of London were adorned with the vibrant colors of Asanteman, and Asantes from around the world attended, dressed in traditional Akan attire.

The historic event was attended by notable Ghanaian political figures, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor and New Patriotic Party Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

According to him, it is also concerning that the British government will still keep laws protecting illegality in its statute books.

This comes after the United Kingdom recently loaned Manhyia Palace some 32 looted artefacts by British forces during the colonial era.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Asante Culture and Heritage: Past and Present’ in the UK, the Asantehene argued that it is long overdue for such laws to be reviewed.

“All of us are victims of a system in need of an update. We are either victims of a system that denies us justice or victims of a system that prevents us from administering justice and doing what we know to be the right thing. From both sides, we need to sincerely appeal to our conscience, because nobody disputes the fact that much of the cultural objects were obtained through illegal and unethical circumstances. Can anyone in good conscience sustain the enactment of a law to protect illegality?” he stressed.

He added that the return of looted artefacts has revived a new sense of pride in the Asante heritage and the creativity of young artists.

“The return is being celebrated at one level with the same reverence as heroes of a state returning from enforced exile, and at another level as marking the spiritual re-connection with lost souls. Critically for me, it has stirred among the youth not just a new model of self-believing confidence in their heritage but an inspiration to thrive to add to that heritage of creativity and innovation.”

The Asantehene also revealed that engagement for the restitution of looted artefacts dates backs 50 years.

“My brother, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II who succeeded our uncle, Osei Agyemang Prempeh II continued with this quest and even held a major exhibition in collaboration with the British museum in 1982. That formal cooperation with this museum as inherited correspondences show, has been on for 50 years and the ultimate issue of the return of objects has danced around some other forms of cultural cooperation until recently,” he explained.

Otumfuo stated that if Dr Opoku Prempeh makes mistakes, Dr Bawumia should inform him so that he can offer personal guidance.

“Train him, and wherever he goes wrong, tell me and I will advise him,” he said

This comes after President Akufo-Addo presented Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the revered king.

During his brief speech at Manhyia, the Asantehene also expressed gratitude to the Ashanti Regional NPP chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi for supporting Dr Opoku Prempeh as the running mate.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged Ghanaians to vote wisely in the upcoming elections to select leaders who will contribute positively to the future of Ghana.

Acknowledging Dr Opoku Prempeh’s achievements, he stressed that he had heard rumours regarding the Energy Minister’s attitude.

He expressed shock at claim that the running mate is arrogant as he never saw that trait in his grandson.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has urged the government to allocate more resources towards revitalizing the Ghana Publishing Company Limited.

During a meeting with board members at the Manhyia palace, Otumfuo emphasized the crucial role of local publishing industries in preserving cultural heritage and fostering economic growth.

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited, once a thriving entity, has faced years of inactivity due to financial challenges.

Efforts are currently underway to restore its former prominence, with stringent measures being implemented.

Otumfuo called on policymakers to introduce supportive measures aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the publishing company.

He highlighted the importance of strategic investments and initiatives that would enable the company to regain its stature and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s publishing sector.

“We have left the company to collapse, but we can revive it and I am hopeful you are making progress since you are a limited liability company”.

“This is an important company because it gazettes everything. If the government supports them with deliberate policies and some percentage of government resources, I believe it will help develop the company,” the Asante King said.

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited boasts a rich history steeped in tradition and innovation dating back several decades. But the company previously encountered financial constraints amidst competition from both domestic and foreign entities operating in Ghana’s vibrant publishing industry.

Currently, massive improvement has been made to restore confidence in the company.

During a visit to the Manhyia Palace by the company’s board, the Asantehene urged policymakers to consider implementing supportive mechanisms designed to enhance the operational efficiency and long-term sustainability of the publishing company.

“Left the company to collapse. We have revived it, and I am hopeful you are making progress since you are a limited liability company”.

“This is an important company because it gazettes everything. If the government supports them with deliberate policies with some percentage of government resources, I believe it will help develop the company”.

The Asantehene encouraged the company to make progress in exercising its duties.

“They gazette laws made in Parliament and the National House of Chiefs. It is our responsibility to see the company develop”

“Management should do well to project the company as expected. You are already doing well by making the company vibrant. You should continue to uplift the industry” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Publishing Company has opened an office in the Ashanti Region to enhance its operations.

According to the Managing Director, David Asante “Otumfuo is excited about our coming to Kumasi. The thing is that, state institutions that are not doing well cannot expand it shows the good work of the board of directors”.

” From here we hope to extend a couple of regional branches. We also intend to introduce to electronic Gazette to digitalize all the services of the GPLC,” he said.

The announcement was made during a grand durbar held in his honour by the Ga State, led by the Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II.

“I want to donate an amount of GH₵500,000 to the Ga Education Fund to help in the education of less-privileged Ga children,” the Asantehene declared through an interpreter at the event.

This durbar marks a significant occasion, being part of the first historic visit by the King of Ashanti to the Ga State since 1946.

During his address, the Asantehene expressed his gratitude to the Ga State for their warm reception and called for unity among the Ga and Ashanti peoples, as well as among all chiefs in the country.

“The people of Ga and Ashanti must unite to develop our peoples. All Ga chiefs must unite behind Nii Teiko Tsuru II. Unity and development must be our focus in the interest of our children,” he emphasized.

The King noted that, this year’s Green Ghana Day, scheduled for Friday June 7, will serve as an avenue for Ghanaians to demonstrate their dedication to the conservation of the nation’s forest resources and demonstrate the desire to leave a richer and greener
Ghana for the next generation.

Otumfuo, commended government for implementing the Green Ghana Project and emphasized the importance of trees in environmental conservation, climate change mitigation and planet.

He also urged chiefs to lead their subjects to plant trees and to nurture them to growth as he believes will go a long way to complement government’s aggressive afforestation efforts.

Otumfuo emphasized the need to nurture what we plant . He gave an example of the trees that he has planted over the three years of the program, which are doing very well due to his own vigilance.

The Chairman for the National Planning Committee of Green Ghana, Hon. Benito Owusu- Bio in his remarks said, the issue of climate change has become a nationwide concern therefore government’s Green Ghana initiative is to help contribute to the fight against climate change and also to restore the country’s forest landscape and forest cover

He added that the Green Ghana Project is necessary to raise national awareness of the need for collective action to restore degraded landscapes in the country, instil values of tree planting and nurturing in citizens, particularly among the younger generation, mitigate climate change, and beautify communities and the environment.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, John Allotey, remarked that the Ashanti Region has planted the most trees on Green Ghana Days over the previous years.

He recounted that more than 81 per cent of the trees planted in 2021 have survived, while 72 per cent of those planted last year have survived.

The notable event took place on Saturday, May 25, in Kumasi, where members of the Grand Lodge of Ghana gathered to honor the Asantehene, who holds the esteemed position of Grand Patron.

Known within the Freemason community as Most Worshipful Bro Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene’s 25-year legacy was celebrated.

In a show of immense generosity, the Freemasons donated over GHC 300,000 to his Heal Komfo Anokye Project.

This project aims to enhance healthcare facilities and services at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, a key institution in the Ashanti Region.

The event saw the attendance of distinguished Freemason members, including the Grand Master designate of the Grand Lodge in Nigeria, High Chief Osiobe Eric Okotie.

Other notable attendees were the current Grand Master, Most Worshipful Bro Nana Osei Atwene Bonsu, Most Worshipful Bro Otwasuom Osae Nyampong VI, Most Worshipful Bro N/Capt Kwadjo Adunkwa Butah, and Bro Nana Kwaku Boateng III, Omanhene of New Juaben.

The substantial donation and the presence of such high-ranking members is testament tp the Freemasons’ commitment to community welfare and their respect for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s contributions to society.

The funds are expected to make a significant impact on the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, furthering its mission to improve medical care for the people of the Ashanti Region.

I always had a Plan B in any relationship because of my insecurity. I will quickly jump out of the boat if I suspect anything.

I have been doing this for God knows how long and in my opinion, it has worked for me. But little did I know that, this bad behaviour is robbing me off very good men.

I remember one guy, Emmanuel, a very successful young banker who was head over heels over me. He did a lot of crazy things, all in the name of love.

This guy lives at Teshie-Nungua and I was then at the University of Ghana. He would come on campus at 6: am just to visit me.

He did this about three times and I this got on my nerves. I just lost interest in him because my friends mocked me.

What even broke the camel’s back was when he introduced me to his parents just weeks of our meeting. I just ended the relationship in my head, there and then.

Many other men who came my way faced similar fate because in my mind, they were not my spec.

I count myself very lucky because in spite of my being picky, I was still hot; unfortunately, lol.

Now that I have finally settled and very happy in my current relationship; Otumfuo and Lady Julia’s love story will be my inspiration.

The board of directors of GNPC, led by board chairman Hon. Freddie Blay, paid a courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to introduce the new CEO to the King and extend well wishes on his 25th anniversary and 74th birthday.

Expressing his sentiments, the Asantehene emphasized the importance of GNPC to both himself and the entire nation. He underscored the Corporation’s role as a key pillar in Ghana’s development and urged Mr. Dadzie to lead efforts to make GNPC great again.

“GNPC is dear to me and the nation. It is one of the strongest pillars of the country that could help in the development of Ghana,” stated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Asantehene acknowledged that Mr. Dadzie had faced frustration in his previous tenure at GNPC but commended President Akufo-Addo’s decision to reappoint him as CEO.

He urged Mr. Dadzie to unite the corporation and work closely with the board to bring glory to GNPC.

“For the board to push that you return to head the corporation means they have seen something good in you,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II remarked.

In response, Mr. Joseph Dadzie expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for his leadership and pledged to work diligently with the board, management, and staff of GNPC to ensure the company’s growth.

“I will not do anything to disappoint you,” Mr. Dadzie assured the Asantehene, promising to complete all GNPC-funded projects in the Ashanti Region.

Hon. Freddie Blay, the board chairman of GNPC, praised the Asantehene for his impactful initiatives and assured continued support from the corporation.

He promised to showcase all projects undertaken by GNPC in the Ashanti Region to demonstrate the corporation’s loyalty to the Asantehene.

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs and GNPC board member, lauded the Asantehene for his support during his candidacy for the presidency.

He also extended prayers for the Asantehene’s long life and strength.

Born Barima Kwaku Dua on May 6th, 1950, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is the youngest child of the Nana Afua Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the esteemed late Asantehemaa. His upbringing was steeped in Asante traditions and statecraft, guided by his uncle, Oheneba Mensah Bonsu, who meticulously groomed him for the responsibilities that awaited.

These foundations laid the groundwork for his successful business ventures and leadership roles in international organizations before his ascension to the Golden Stool in 1999.

The Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee Planning Committee, chaired by Juabenhene, Daasebre Otuo Siriboe II, emphasized that the celebration should not be used as a platform for political agendas, especially in an election year.

Nsuase Poku Agyeman II, Otumfuo’s Akyeamehene, spoke on behalf of the committee at a press conference held at the office of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs at Manhyia in Kumasi.

“Asantehene has always stood for everyone. He is the father for all, and all visitors who will be coming must observe that no matter where you are coming from, we are all here to promote no individual or party but to celebrate the Overlord of the Golden Stool,” he emphasized.

He noted that while the celebration kicked off with various events, including the launch of a book on Otumfuo Sir Agyeman Prempeh II and a grand food fair (Feast Ghana), some attendees have been seen wearing party paraphernalia. The committee aims to discourage such behaviour at upcoming events.

The ‘Ahohor Durbar,’ scheduled for April 24, where people from around the world will pay homage to the Asantehene, coincides with Awukudae.

Other events include the ‘Fireworks Night’ on Thursday, followed by a Musical Concert, and a grand non-denominational Church service at Dwabrem on Friday, marking the exact date the Asantehene ascended the throne 25 years ago.

This durbar, which marks the third of its kind, is part of the monarch’s initiative to honour the approximately 70 paramount queen mothers for their invaluable contributions to the Ashanti Kingdom.

The event brought together around 50 queen mothers, led by Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the Asantehemaa, and Nana Agyakoma Difie, queen mother of Asante Mampong.

These esteemed queen mothers took the opportunity to prepare and present a variety of traditional Ashanti dishes, highlighting the diverse and flavourful culinary heritage of the Ashanti people.

Among the array of dishes prepared were Nuhuu, Akankyeai, Ɔgɔɔ, Ɛtɔ, Arugya, Akau, Akapenkyi, and Apeperensa, among others. Each dish showcased the unique flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques that are characteristic of Ashanti cuisine.

The durbar provided a platform for the queen mothers to not only celebrate their cultural heritage but also to demonstrate their culinary prowess and share their traditional recipes with attendees.

It was a vibrant and festive occasion, filled with music, dance, and the aroma of delicious Ashanti dishes.

Otumfour Osei Tutu II expressed his gratitude to the queen mothers for their dedication and service to the Ashanti Kingdom, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting Ashanti culture and traditions for future generations.

The event served as a testament to the resilience and vibrancy of Ashanti culture, particularly in its culinary traditions.

In the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League unfolds, the Porcupine Warriors find themselves in a difficult position.

Despite their illustrious history, they have struggled, winning only one of their last eight games in the second round of the season and failing to make an impact on the continental stage.

Currently occupying the 10th spot on the league table with 36 points, they are precariously close to the relegation zone, sitting just five points above.

Agyemang, speaking to JoySports, drew a comparison with other big clubs like Manchester United, where the involvement of patrons is less prominent.

He emphasized the need for competent individuals to manage the club effectively, expressing concern over the influence of Otumfuo and the process of selecting management members.

“When you look at Manchester United, a very big club, I don’t know the patron. The patrons of those clubs don’t feature and figure in the same way that Otumfuo does,” Agyemang told Joy Sports.

“We are supposed to be having some competent people sitting around a table being the board managing this club and we can never ever get to that stage.

“The King is one big issue for me, then the management members that he selects is another problem, how they are selected represent another problem because huge lobbying goes on.”

The dissolution of the Board of Directors and the previous management led by Nana Yaw Amponsah prompted Otumfuo to establish an Interim Management Committee (IMC), comprising individuals like Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, Akwasi Appiah, Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, to oversee the club’s affairs.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko are gearing up for their upcoming fixture against defending champions, Medeama SC, in the Matchday 28 clash at Akoon Park this weekend.

The Porcupine Warriors are winless in seven games in the second half of the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

The poor results have led to supporters calling for the head coach of the head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum.

In an emergency meeting held at Manhyia on Thursday, His Royal Majesty, stated explicitly that no member of the team works for any individual but him, therefore should put their differences aside and fight for the team, as he won’t watch the team go down under his reign. 

“I am expecting something better from you,” The King said. 

“Prove to me that you are capable and if the coach is the problem, then I will take a decision on him. But for now, make sure you go and play and win,” he added. 

The Porcupine Warriors take on league leaders FC Samartex on Sunday in the Matchday 27 games at the Baba Yara Stadium with kick-off scheduled at 15:00GMT.

Held at the Manhyia Palace, the celebration brought together chiefs and people of Asanteman as well as well wishers  from other parts of the world.

Among them were government officials, politicians, royals from the Hausa State of Kano in Nigeria, and tourists from various parts of the world.

In all his glamour, Otumfuo majestically rode in palanquin to the durbar grounds where he sat in state to receive homage from the gathering.

The former WAFA boss who left the club after steering the Porcupine Warriors to Premier League glory during the 2021/22 season has returned to the club ahead of the 2023/24 Ghana football season.

Following a visit on Monday, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II disclosed that extensive consultations were conducted to identify the ideal candidate capable of leading Kotoko to success, and Ogum’s name emerged prominently from discussions with former players, leaders of the supporters’ group, and key recommendations, including an endorsement from Kwasi Appiah and a prominent figure in Accra, as well as the endorsement of team manager Ohene Brenya and another individual.

“Following discussions with former players, leaders of the supporters’ group, and various recommendations, Kwasi Appiah’s endorsement, a prominent figure in Accra, team manager Ohene Brenya, and another individual all vouched for his capabilities (Ogum). As a result, I instructed them to reach out to him,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II revealed.

“When he arrived, I informed him that he had been identified as the one to lead my club. I made it clear that I didn’t require a formal response, but rather, he should prepare to take charge and shape the team. He graciously accepted the responsibility and agreed to join,” the club owner explained.

Prosper Narteh Ogum will collaborate with Coach David Ocloo and Wilson Burton Asare as his deputies.

Asante Kotoko are expected to begin pre-season today at Beposo ahead of the 2023/24 Ghana football season which get underway in September later this year.

The Porcupine Warriors will begin their campaign with a home game against Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Having finished at the 4th spot last season, Asante Kotoko will hope to improve their performance in the upcoming season.
