The solemn ceremony brought together party executives, government officials, sympathisers, and members of the public, all gathered to mourn with the family.

Mr. Amankwah was reportedly killed in a robbery attack, an incident that has deeply shocked his family and sections of the political community.

The First Lady led a delegation of government officials to the event, while Mr. Asiedu Nketiah arrived with members of the party’s national executive to pay their respects.

The solemn ceremony was held at the Bantama Presby School Park in the Ashanti Region, drawing friends, family, and well-wishers to honour her life and musical legacy.

The ceremony drew prominent figures from across the country, including fans and industry stakeholders, who came together to honour the late artiste and support her bereaved family.

The celebrated backing vocalist for legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo music group passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, following a brief illness.

She contributed to numerous gospel classics that continue to inspire believers across the country.

Before her death, Maame Tiwa actively cared for Yaw Sarpong during his health struggles.

Her last known performances were her tribute to Yaw Sarpong at the 2025 TGMA night and at her son’s wedding.

According to him, the NDC delegation, led by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, appeared in outfits he described as “inappropriate” for a solemn occasion of mourning.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Nana Boakye expressed disappointment, stressing that cultural and social norms demand that mourners dress in ways that reflect respect and solidarity with the bereaved family.

He specifically cited Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande, who wore brown, and NDC parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, Bernard Baidoo, who appeared in pink or white. He also pointed out that former Deputy Sports Minister and NDC National Organiser, Joseph Yamin, attended in camouflage trousers and a T-shirt.

“Were they serious about attending a funeral? When they went to the funeral of Omane Boamah and the victims of the helicopter crash, were they in brown? This was not a show of respect,” Nana Boakye remarked.

He further alleged that Asiedu Nketia was seen making gestures “as if to cut off someone’s head,” which drew protests from some mourners who felt disrespected by the delegation’s conduct.

Nana Boakye argued that the appearance of the NDC executives seemed unplanned, “as if they had suddenly remembered to pass through the funeral grounds to avoid backlash.”

He added that when the NPP attended the funeral of the helicopter crash victims, which included five NDC members, they observed full decorum and dressed appropriately.

While stressing that no one physically attacked the NDC delegation, the NPP National Organiser maintained that their behaviour and choice of attire were “highly inappropriate” for the one-week observation of a former Member of Parliament.

He noted that the conduct of some NDC executives fell short of this standard, which he considered disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and insensitive to the grieving family.

The one-week observance, held at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern Region, drew mourners from across the political divide, as well as friends and family members, who gathered to honour his memory.

Meanwhile, a by-election to choose his successor has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The ceremony has attracted attendees from across the political spectrum, including lawmakers and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), alongside relatives and residents of Akyem Wenchi, who have come to honour the late legislator.

Mr. Kumi, aged 40, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, following a short illness, leaving behind his wife and children.

Preparations are also underway for a by-election to fill his parliamentary seat, with the Electoral Commission scheduling the vote for September 2, 2025.

Scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, the solemn ceremony will now be held at Black Star Square in Accra.

Originally, the observance was planned for the University of Ghana Stadium. However, the plan was altered after the La State Council reminded the family that a ban on drumming and noise-making had taken effect in the La Traditional Area on August 11, 2025, and will remain in place until September 5.

Since the stadium falls within that jurisdiction, council officials advised that the event be either postponed or relocated.

In a statement, the family expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the last-minute adjustment.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support,” the announcement read.

The one-week observance is expected to draw thousands of fans, fellow musicians, and dignitaries, celebrating the life and legacy of a man regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons.

The ceremony will take place at the Akyem Wenchi Funeral Grounds in the Eastern Region, beginning at 7:00 am.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, celebrated for her wisdom, compassion, and commitment to preserving Ashanti traditions, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.
