Member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has identified furniture as the main problem of parliament and not space.

Mr Vanderpuye who was speaking on Joy News’ ‘AM Show’, said the Akufo-Addo government’s decision to build the 450-seater Parliamentary chamber is a misplaced, frivolous and unnecessary one.

“It [the problem] is not about space, it is about lack of proper reasoning in the choice of furniture for the parliament house. Our chairs are just too big. We didn’t approve it when they brought those Chinese chairs but we can only protest,” he noted.

The Majority leader of parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has, however, provided justifications for the controversial plan to build a new chamber, insisting it will provide security for MPs, improve the Speaker’s ability to see MPs who are mostly blocked from view by pillars in the chamber.

He added in his defence that it was also about time for Parliament to get its own chamber after customising the State House for its work since 1992.

But Mr Vanderpuye contends that such reasons for the establishment of the edifice are untenable.

National resources, he noted, must be channelled into projects and expenditure that have a direct bearing on the lives of the people and not on grandiose and prestige projects of doubtful relevance.

“The new chamber is needless and a misplaced priority and very unfortunate. This chamber must suffer a premature birth. It should not happen,” he noted.

He noted that as legislators, they represent the people, therefore, it was appropriate that they listen to the people.

Audio: Anas’ exposé on Nyantakyi a tip of the iceberg – Nii Lante http://34.58.148.58/audio-anas-expose-on-nyantakyi-a-tip-of-the-iceberg-nii-lante/ Thu, 07 Jun 2018 12:51:10 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1152441

Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye is not surprised about the rot uncovered by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas in Ghana football.

According to him, what has been uncovered especially about the conduct of GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi is just a tip of the iceberg.

The whole nation has been thrown in a state of shock after the premiering of the latest piece in which GFA officials, Kwesi Nyantakyi, referees and some Ghana Sports Authority officials have been implicated for various acts of corruption.

Mr Nyantakyi, for instance, is seen in the video negotiating a deal between a supposed investor by which the investor will gain undue advantage in securing contracts in the Ghanaian political space.

Many Ghanaians, including some Parliamentarians have called for Nyantakyi to resign and save the face of GFA as an institution.

In support, Nii Lante Vanderpuye on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, said the GFA boss should not be left off the hook this time.

He stated that, the embattled GFA boss has manipulated the entire system to his advantage thus made it difficult for anyone especially during his tenure to expose him.

The former Sports Minister stressed that, more damaging and damning revelations would have been exposed if Anas had investigated issues at the international level.

The Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo revealed that, it was his intention to investigate issues of Ghana football when he was in charge of Youth and Sports but was limited by the change of government.

“I had commissioned the BNI to investigate the GFA and Nyantakyi but for our loss in the 2016 elections, FIFA would have banned Ghana but our football would have been clean” he added.

This notwithstanding, Nii Lante Vanderpuye said it is better late never hence the Akufo-Addo led government should take this opportunity to do a house cleaning at the GFA.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye lashes out at GFA after Black Stars ''B'' failure http://34.58.148.58/nii-lantey-vanderpuye-lashes-gfa-black-stars-b-failure/ Wed, 23 Aug 2017 14:20:47 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=426901 Former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has slammed the Ghana Football Association following the Black Stars ‘’B’’ failure to reach the 2018 African Nations Championship.
Ghana shockingly missed out on qualification for the second straight time after a 4-3 aggregate defeat against Burkina Faso.
And according to the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency, it came as no surprise to him, adding that the result was a true reflection of the poor state of football in the country.
“I was expecting us to qualify after drawing 2-2 away, but I’m not surprised because this is what I have been talking about for a while now”, he told Joy FM.
“If we continue to develop the “cow dung” management style over the management of our football we will always reap this result”.
“It is not well with our football, it is only hypocrites who are always saying all is well and when you talk about it, they will send their “hawks” to radio stations to insult you”.
His latest comments is the latest in the on-going feud between the former Minister and the Ghana Football Association. There has been no love lost between both parties and Ghana’s failure in the qualifiers might add substance to what Nii Lantey.
He brings a different angle to the whole situation after most of the blame was attributed to Maxwell Konadu for poor player selection and favoritism.
