The Ghanaian-based award-winning sports journalist, who equally has a passion for positive-impact adventures, visited Alpine in 2021.

“Alpine is a favourite place for hikers and those who want to get away from the crowd and connect with nature. It is the top of the list for great vacation ideas,” he said after the trip.

Juxtaposing the lifestyle in Alpine to Ghana, Wallace, as he is affectionately called said “Alpine and Ghana, West Africa have so much in common; the people and the hospitality, the dark skies in some parts of the remote areas in Ghana. Musicians play almost every night at bars and music halls.”

US Election: French bulldog elected as mayor of Kentucky town http://34.58.148.58/us-election-french-bulldog-elected-as-mayor-of-kentucky-town/ Fri, 06 Nov 2020 14:11:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1877631 A small town in Kentucky has elected a French bulldog to be mayor. Wilbur, a 6-month-old puppy, was elected as mayor in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky on Thursday.

Amy Noland, Wilbur’s owner, told NBC News that Wilbur’s campaign was based around ‘all of the negative media that’s out there surrounding America, and the election, and Covid-19. ‘I guess I wanted Wilbur to be something positive in the news,’ she said.

She mentioned that Wilbur is dealing with the stress of being the mayor quite well. ‘He’s done a lot of interviews locally,’ she said.

‘He’s had a lot of pets, a lot of belly scratches and a lot of ear rubs.’ Wilbur ran on a campaign of getting rid of all the negativity in the world (Photo: Facebook) Noland explained that the town ‘has never had an actual person or human as mayor,’ but the tradition came about in the late 1990s.

‘There was a man named Don Claire who thought it would be a great idea to elect some type of animal — not necessarily a canine — as mayor of town,’ she said. She called Wilbur ‘an anomaly’ because he is a purebred, but still considers him ‘so cute.’

Noland said she fosters kittens and cats, and the rest of the town is a thriving community of dog lovers. There have been five dog mayors of Rabbit Hash, which always coincides with the presidential election.

‘It’s not political at all,’ Noland said. French bulldogs have been the fourth most popular purebred dog breed in the country during the last three years.

Mayor Walker took to Facebook to explain that he had directed police to more strictly enforce the Governor’s order through the use of citations and that nobody was above the law.

“At approximately 1am on Sunday morning, I was informed by the Police Chief that the Alton Police Department was investigating and stopping a social gathering in downtown Alton,” he wrote.

“I was also made aware that my wife was in attendance at this prohibited social gathering,” he said.

“She now faces the same consequences for her ill-advised decision as the other individuals who chose to violate the ‘Stay At Home’ order during this incident.

“I am embarrassed by this incident and apologize to the citizens of Alton for any embarrassment this incident may cause our City,” he said.

KMA 'slaps' mayor’s attackers http://34.58.148.58/kma-slaps-mayors-attackers/ Wed, 11 Apr 2018 14:53:23 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1057521 The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has described the group of traders calling for the head of the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, as nation-wreckers.
According to the assembly, Osei Assibey Antwi had displayed competence and visionary leadership since he assumed the mantle as the Chief Executive of the assembly.

The KMA said that the Kumasi Mayor had introduced several measures which have contributed to Kumasi’s rapid transformation so saboteurs of the mayor don’t wish Kumasi well hence entreated the residents to regard the agitators as haters of Kumasi.
‘The Concerned NPP Youth Traders Association’, have called for the dismissal of the Kumasi Mayor over the relocation of traders; an exercise administered by KMA to decongest the city.
According to the aggrieved traders, the KMA is not undertaking the relocation exercise properly and so the Kumasi Mayor should be sacked.

KMA’s Response
But in a release, authored by Okumah Nyame, the KMA PRO, he said the relocation exercise is a decision of the general assembly of the KMA and not the Kumasi Mayor alone.
According to him, wild allegations by the traders that the KMA had not secured places for the affected traders, is nothing but total falsehood, which must be rejected by the public.
Setting the records straight, the KMA PRO stated that apart from the Race Course, other satellite markets had been constructed in the city to accommodate the affected traders.

He, therefore, described the allegations that the Kumasi Mayor wants to destroy the businesses of the traders as totally false, explaining that the Mayor rather has the interest of the traders at heart.
According to him, trading in the streets and pavements expose the traders to gross danger and that is why the general assembly of the KMA has decided to put the satellite markets in good shape to accommodate them.
Okumah Nyame said most of the traders had realized the positive intentions of the KMA so they quickly relocated to the Race Course and the other satellite markets to practice their business.

He said it is only traders, who want to draw the development of Kumasi backwards, who have decided not to leave the streets.
According to him, under the leadership of Osei Assibey, Kumasi had experienced road improvement, toilet facilities, street lightning and effective security, among other mind-blowing projects.
He stated that it is only those who have decided not to see the good works of the Kumasi Mayor who would say negative things about Osei Assibey, saying that KMA is proud of the mayor’s good works, so far.

Kumasi Mayor fires 3 contractors http://34.58.148.58/kumasi-mayor-fires-3-contractors/ Tue, 20 Jun 2017 08:25:58 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=203671 Three contractors, who are working on separate Urban Development Grant (UDG)-funded projects in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region, are in hot waters.

The Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, is on their necks to complete the projects as soon as possible or risk getting their contracts terminated.

The contractors are working on bus terminals at three different locations in the city to help make business transactions convenient for residents and also beautify the city.

Contractors

Rock Everest Trading and Construction Ltd is working at a site at Sofoline, directly opposite the Prempeh College, while Tony Machineries Company Ltd and MPX Contractors Ltd are also working at Anwomaso and Kyirapatre respectively.

When completed, the projects would have police posts, 20-seater toilet facilities, offices and spacious car parks.

Delay

The three projects delayed when they were hit with a series of litigations and other challenges, which initially seemed insurmountable.

But after just two months in office, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene in the matter.

The Asante monarch obliged and his intervention resulted in all the disputes being resolved amicably to enable the projects to go on.

Mayor’s Warning

Mr Osei Assibey, who is determined to help Kumasi benefit from the projects, visited the sites about four times each on Saturday alone.

In his succinct remarks, he sternly cautioned the contractors to increase the pace of work so that the projects could be completed as soon as possible.

“I will henceforth leave my office and stay at the construction sites with you just to make sure that you work with speed and also do a good job,” the mayor stated, adding that the assembly would not hesitate in taking a decision against any contractor that would carry out its work at a snail’s pace.

Contractors’ Response

The three contractors seemed to have taken the mayor’s stern warning seriously, as they have clearly implemented new policies to speed the pace of work.

CEO of Tony Machineries, Anthony Wularu, stated that 70 percent of work had been completed at his site at Anwomaso, assuring the completion of the project on time.

On the part of Rock Everest Trading and Construction, more personnel and machinery, have been deployed to the site as they now work 24 hours daily.
