The veteran turned 80 years and a delightful celebration was held at a plush event center at East Legon in her honour.

The celebration was a glamorous affair that showcased her illustrious career, with awards and accomplishments on full display, reminding everyone of the significant impact she has made in the entertainment industry.

Her three beautiful daughters, dressed in regal attire, were by her side to honour their mother.

The event was graced by several notable figures from the entertainment industry, including Nana Ama McBrown, David Dontoh, Fred Amugi, Adwoa Smart, and actor Joojo Robertson, all of whom came to celebrate the legendary actress.

Maame Dokono, who has graced Ghanaian television screens for decades, was the epitome of storytelling in her prime.

She was the goddess of acting that captivated audiences, making it befitting to honour the legacy of a true icon.

The highlight of her birthday celebration was the launch of her book.

She acknowledged that even though she was been satisfied with how well she had been celebrated over the years, having a stutue or  a bust at the Maame Dokono park will cement her legacy.

She believes such a monument would not only preserve her legacy but also inspire younger generations to follow in her footsteps.

However, Maame Dokono noted that she doesn’t want to impose her wishes on anyone and would leave the decision to erect the statue to the discretion of others.

 

“Yes! I think there should be my statue there for my legacy to be in the minds of the little ones who are coming because I am even in their books.”

 

“If something like that could be erected in my honor, it will be a nice thing. I am not forcing anybody to do it but if it is done, fine!” she said in a recent interview.

For over five decades, Maame Dokono has enthralled audiences with her remarkable acting talent, leaving an indelible mark on Ghana’s entertainment landscape.

A household name, she was the face of the iconic Akan Drama series and the lead actress of the renowned Obra Drama Group.

 

 

The celebration will include a series of events, such as a health screening and the highly anticipated release of her autobiography, which promises to offer a glimpse into her illustrious career.

Maame Dokono is preparing to celebrate a remarkable 60 years in the film industry with the launch of her book, “The Unforgettable” tomorrow, September 7, 2024

The announcement was made at an event held at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra on July 30, 2024.

The event celebrated both her 80th birthday and her 60 years in the Ghanaian movie industry.

In videos shared on social media by Metro TV, Omaboe revealed that the book will be a memoir, covering various aspects of her life.

It will include details about delivering all six of her children via C-section, her experiences with former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, and her career in the movie industry, among other topics.

Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono, is a prominent Ghanaian actress, singer, TV personality, author, and former politician. She began her career in the 1970s as a writer and actress on GTV, gaining fame through the series Obra and the children’s program By The Fire Side. She is well-known for her roles in both Akan and English films, including notable movies like Kwaku Ananse and Children of the Mountain.

In politics, she ran for parliament with the NDC in 2000 and 2004 but later joined the NPP in 2008. She left politics in 2016, citing dishonesty and personal challenges. Omaboe also managed the Peace and Love Orphanage, now known as Graceful Grace School.

She has six children, with two in the US, two in the Netherlands, and two in Ghana. In 2017, she was appointed President of the Golden Movie Awards Africa jury. Her extensive filmography includes titles such as I Surrender, Matters of the Heart, and John and John.

Known privately as Grace Omaboe, the actress was captured having a private time with her daughter, Sabrina and grandson, Sean.

Maame Dokono who had visited her family abroad, was well entertained by her grandson.

In the video, Sean could be seen teaching his grandmother some tricks of modern technology while they played what seemed to be a video game.

They were captured at another time enjoying a jolly ride in the company of her daughter, Sabrina.

The 76-year-old taught her grandson how to speak Twi including responses to some basic greetings in the local language.

The actress dropped a bombshell when she revealed lesbians were awed by her beauty and nature and they sometimes disturbed her while she filmed on set.

According to her, her suitors offered her juicy proposals including shopping and travel opportunities, but being an affluent and famous woman of her calibre, she said she did not succumb to their desires.

When asked if she did not feel pressurized to accept at least one of her suitors, Maame Dokono gave a response that left the host of Kingdom FM’s entertainment segment livid.

“What am I going to do with a woman? I have known men and know what it tastes like, why will I accept a woman? At that time, they disgusted me. If a man is around, why will you allow a female to insert all manner of things in you?”

Maame Dokono still sticks by her opinion that any LGBTQ act is “really really really bad” and she does not see herself involving in any of their acts.

The 76-year-old actress reiterated she is committed to the opposite gender and any proposal to have her swayed is bad news.

Her two previous marriages is evidence to the fact that she is fully ‘straight’.

She argued that persons who involve themselves in the morally controversial acts do it mainly for money and influence.

The Ghollywood movie industry pioneers had the encounter in the studios of Kingdom FM during a discussion on the evolution of the career.

After the entertaining segment, the veterans posed for the cameras while exhibiting wide smiles on their faces.

The superstars have refused to age, as the photos captured them radiating in all their glory.

They could pass for mid adults despite Maame Dokono being 76 years and Adwoa Smart, 52.

Veteran Maame Dokono, real name Grace Omaboe, said she is curently living a life of fulfillment as she marks her 40th years in showbiz.

She extended gratitude to Adwoa Smart and all who have been part of her success story.

This was after Maame Dokono posted a family photo including her son on Instagram.

Fans have pointed out the striking resemblance between her and her son who doubles as her manager.

He is her last born of six children who works professionally as an actor, dancer and content creator.

He is known in the entertainment field as Real Spooner and he is also behind some trendy and funny short vox pops.

The photos, released on Sabrina’s Instagram page, were to mark her birthday on Saturday, November 27, 2021.

In the photos, she was seen wearing dazzling outfits as she gives off wild poses for the camera, flaunting her curvaceous body.

Posting the photos, she penned heartfelt messages to appreciate God for how far she has come in life.

Maame Dokono is optimistic that if social media had existed back in her days, she would have been the centre of attraction.

She backed her claim with some of the unbeatable achievements she has made in her over three decades of theatre art and stage play.

Pertinent is her glamorous and influential side she portrayed both in movies and in real life.

Maame Dokono was very affluent, considering the numerous roles she played as well as honours she received for her immense contribution to Ghana’s movie industry.

Aside her ‘slaying’, Maame Dokono added on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Xtra that she was a pioneer and mother for all, and, thus, her predecessors looked up to her.

While describing herself as the Oprah of Ghana, Maame Dokono stated she also made it her burden to be the mouthpiece of her colleagues and other less-privileged persons in society.

Currently a mother-of-six, the septuagenarian disclosed that she is doing very fine financially, adding that her children are financing her lavish lifestyle.

Despite Mr Dontoh currently married, rumour has it that the duo had a tight amorous relationship in their on-screen days.

Maame Dokono also confirmed she dated Mr Dontoh for four years “because she needed a partner to help ward off the many men that were chasing her with love proposals.”

But, in a latest interview with Adom TV’s Sister Sandy on her Ahosepe Xtra show, Mr Dontoh confirmed they have a relationship, but he was quick to add that it is strictly platonic.

Debunking the rumours, Mr Dontoh disclosed that they never kissed, not even in the countless movies they have starred in.

“For all the years that we acted on television, we never kissed, never, but everybody keeps saying she is my wife,” he said.

He was positive that Ghanaians coined the speculation due to their enviable bond both on set and in private life despite the 18 years age difference.

“We have a very good relationship. Everybody who is sensible will know there is a relationship between us. You don’t need to touch or kiss the person to show it. There is a chemistry between how we act towards each other,” he detailed.

Nicknamed Ghanaman, Mr Dontoh made the revelation while speaking on the immorality some persons involve in in their quest for fame.

He added that the craze for fame has been intensified such that people will go all length, including portraying their nudity to earn the tag as celebrities.

But, in their days, he said decency was the order of the day and that was why respect is evident between all the veteran stars.

The veteran actress has revealed she has close ties with the Rawlings’ family, particularly Nana Konadu due to her women empowerment strides.

However, she has no knowledge about who the said ‘Abigail Rawlings’ is neither has she come into contact with her.

She disclosed this in an interview on Accra-based Kingdom FM. She said she was devasted following the viral reports of her involvement in the family issues.

“My children abroad called me as well as others in the country to ask what was going on but the truth is I don’t know the woman neither do I remember any encounter as she claims,” she said.

Following the death of ex-President Jerry Rawlings, the 52-year-old woman surfaced and claiming to be the first daughter but had been sidelined by the family.

Amid the controversy, she disclosed the actress was aware of her identity.

She further claimed that Maame Dokono gave her money to keep quiet and also leave the country in 2003 for fear of her life.

But, the veteran actress said she would have personally taken her to the funeral grounds if she knew her.

Her plea is for Ghanaians to forgive Mzbel and Tracey Boakye over their recent social media outbursts.

Actress Boakye and Mzbel have, for sometime now, been trading words over a man they claim to be dating. They described him as ‘Papa no’.

Maame Dokono, speaking in an interview, bemoaned the lifestyle youngsters now display on social media.

“I can’t even tell if social media is good or bad because I don’t even know how to use it but there was nothing like social media during my time when I started acting.

“So I find it disturbing when some of these ladies post half-naked photos on social media because of fame,” she said.

She, however, expressed optimism the two will, some time to come, not fancy these lifestyles.

“I was engaged in my television, radio programmes and acting and I didn’t have the time to talk about certain things in the open. I believe when they grow up, they will definitely change so let’s forgive them,” she pleaded.

The veteran actress, in an unequivocal language, stressed the need to abstain from supporting a political party because the damage it causes supersedes the profit as an entertainer.

She explained that the only time one can benefit from the party is during campaign times and when they lose, they will not consider to look at you as someone who belongs to them.

And if you are in the movie industry, those doing movies will not use you because they will say people will not buy their product; they will avoid you.

They will say your time has passed. I think the money you will get from them is only when you are campaigning I will advise young ones to be very careful and remain neutral.

She climaxed her advice with this: I did experience that. It’s just recently that they started using me.

But, reacting to her statement on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM, host of U Sey Wetin, Don Tsegah, said though Maame Dokono may be right, some musicians like Kwabena Kwabena and Shatta Wale have survived such fates, hence it’s dicey.

The veteran actress, popularly known as Maame Dokono, turned 74 years on June 24, 2020.

Miss Brobbey, taking to Instagram to mark Maame Dokono’s day, shared a photo with her coupled with a heartwarming message.

No, now the world has changed. How can you allow that? In the past, you will be called a fool. Its not something I would recommend, it will be hard luck on the man. It will have some spiritual implications and things will go bad.

Its okay for the women to wash that of the men. In the Bible the man is the head of the family. Are you a fool? If she is sick or pregnant. Or maybe her first baby and she has no family member around, she said.

According to her, she has lost the sexual urge after going through emotional torture especially in her second marriage.

“I have not had sex in the past six years. You have sex when you are in love with the person but I don’t love anyone” she added.

The 71-year-old actress disclosed this in an exclusive interview on the Delay show over the weekend.

“I don’t need sex to survive. I have six children so it is nothing new” she stressed.

She recounted how she has been so unlucky especially in her second marriage to a man ‘if her dreams’.

“If I knew my second marriage will be this terrible, I would have stayed in my first marriage” Maame Dokono stated.

She maintained that divorcing her first husband due to family pressure was the worst decision in her life.

The reason for this, she explained is because she feels very tired doing that routine again in the evening.

She disclosed this in an exclusive with Delay while discussing why she is still single years after separating from her second husband.

The veteran actress believes men are afraid to approach her due to her celebrity status.

But, Maame Dokono said she is happy being single after men broke her heart.

“I have served a lot of men in my life for several but when you are not appreciated, you don’t feel like doing it again” she bemoaned.

“If I cook for you and wash your panties and later you cheat on me why should I bother about marriage?”.

Maame Dokono said her notion about men is very awful and is praying hard for God to change her mind.

However, when one of the sons of Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, and his ex-wife from Trinidad & Tobago decided to break up their marriage, the celebrated actress said she was actually glad it happened.

Even though she didn’t openly say she supports divorce, she walked on air when the two gave up on their marriage, and her reason is that she wanted a Ghanaian wife for her son.

“We were all in London for the wedding but after some time it broke up and then I said well I am happy that it has broken down,” she said last week Wednesday while reacting to a News-One question during a press screening of her upcoming film, ‘My Very Ghanaian Wedding’.

She said she had a beautiful Ghanaian doctor for the son who lives in New York.

However, he didn’t accept her choice and won’t succumb to the usual trend in Maame Dokono’s family, where she and her husband always select spouses for their children.

Maame Dokono was speaking about her son’s marriage in public because her family story is similar to that of her upcoming film which is set for cinema release on October 6.

“I am particularly interested in this film because I find myself in there. I really went for it because I have experienced this situation. My son who lives in New York wanted to marry and usually the father and I will select a Ghanaian woman for all our children but this son said no and he got married to someone from Trinidad & Tobago.

We were all in London for the wedding but after some time it broke down and then I said well I am happy that it has broken down. This time, I am going to give you a Ghanaian medical doctor, a very beautiful girl then he goes for another white girl. A pure white. When I read the script I said ah this is my situation I will do it,” she told a section of
the Ghanaian media but won’t mention the son’s name.

The upcoming film which talks about marriage and Ghanaian culture is directed by Helel Smith. It delves into how culture and traditions play a key role in the society and how it binds people together.

According to Maame Dokono, Ghanaian traditional wedding is more important than the white wedding in the church. She, therefore, encouraged young people never to shy away from traditional marriage, as she emphasized the need to always marry in the presence of one’s family.

Mama Dokono went off local TV screens for some time but she says, “I’m back. Actually I wanted to take a little bit of rest after going through politics. I wanted to hide a little so I visited my children outside and since I came back I have been acting.”

Directed by Helel Smith, the movie is not just thought-provoking but also features awe-inspiring performances from some of Ghana’s award-winning actors who have not acted together in a movie for quite a while.

Popular and celebrated screen figures Grace Omaboe, otherwise called Maame Dokono, and Dzifa Glikpoe are sharing interesting screen moments in the film. The two bigwigs haven’t shared the same screen spot in a long time and fans are being promised a good time when the movie premieres on October.
