He said this while reflecting on his visit to one of the affected sites 11 years ago while shooting the video for his song “No Shortcut to Heaven.”

Appearing on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, the rapper noted that Galamsey was already a significant issue at the time, but many Ghanaians are only now coming to terms with its full effects.

‘As a musician, you need to be a keen observer of your society, Galamsey did not start recently’, he remarked.

According to him, his keen observation had enabled him to relay messages that mirror society, which he applauded all musicians for being keen observers through storytelling in their music.

Speaking on the harsh conditions workers of illegal mining sites face, he said, “I couldn’t stand it that day because  I experienced what it felt like in just a day and couldn’t even take it.”

The rapper also shed light on the difficulties he faced in the shooting of the video.

He revealed that getting the location of an actual ‘galamsey’ site was not an easy task, as his management had to finesse their way through because of the concealed illegal activities happening there.

M.anifest shares opinion on NPP’s defeat, expectations of Mahama http://34.58.148.58/m-anifest-shares-opinion-on-npps-defeat-expectations-of-mahama/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 13:42:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481415 Ghanaian rapper, Kwame Ametepee Tsikata popularly known as M.anifest, has adduced reason for the loss of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7, 2024 election.

Speaking to James Copnall on BBC’s Newsday on December 9, 2024, the ‘Suffer’ rapper mentioned that the New Patriotic Party lost power because the citizens were not pleased with the governance of the country.

When asked if he thought the incoming government could salvage the nation from its problems, he said: “It’s difficult to be confident in any leadership here until you see how they operate. In our local parlance we say ‘show working’. So ultimately, I think what happened in this election was that people were unhappy that the country was not being run but the country was being run down. So I think there is a level of accountability that we as citizens are going to hold him [John Mahama] and any other leaders to at this point.”

Responding to how the citizens are going to hold the new leadership accountable, M.anifest made reference to various incidents of activism held over the past four years.

“I do think if you saw in the last administration, the youth especially took to the streets. There were protests about illegal mining and so many other things. I think Ghanaians and especially the young people who are most affected, unemployment is high, twice as much in the youth in Ghana. I think they are beginning to express their voice more frequently. We don’t wait for every four years to express that voice through votes. I do think there is a sense of everyday accountability that we are moving towards. That there is a sense of urgency that people feel,” he added.

He, however, noted that it is not only young people that are unhappy about operations of the current government.

“We have seen pensioners in the last four years also go out on the streets,” he indicated.

The results of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary election are yet to be officially announced by the Electoral Commission of Ghana but the flagbearer of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat to Former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a public address broadcast from Dr. Bawumia’s residence hours after results started trickling in, he acknowledged the victory of John Mahama and expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for the opportunity to serve as a vice president and presidential candidate.

Dr Bawumia acknowledged the provisional results from the party’s internal collation, which indicated a victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama.

In the meantime, the Electoral Commission has urged citizens to patiently wait for the official results.

Renowned Ghanaian legal practitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata has revealed that his son, Kwame Ametepee Tsikata popularly known as M.anifest is his favourite Ghanaian rapper.

Mr Tsikata disclosed this in an interview on Accra-based GHOne TV after he was asked his preference between Sarkodie and M.anifest.

The lawyer admitted that the duo were both good and talented in their craft but would settle with his son.

“You know what? You are trying to trap me, but I’ll give you my answer,” Tsikata stated.

Recounting M.anifest and Sarkodie’s Brown Paper Bag collaboration in 2020, he noted, “I enjoy both of them. But of course, more of the time I’m enjoying my son than anybody else.”

The collaboration was on the back of a lyrical feud in 2016 which began with Sarkodie’s song Bossy, in which he crowned himself Ghana’s top rapper.

M.anifest countered with god MC but Sarkodie responded with Kanta which aimed an attack on M.anifest’s rap style and fashion sense.

M.anifest opted out of a collabo because I was featured on it – Medikal spills http://34.58.148.58/m-anifest-opted-out-of-a-collabo-because-i-was-featured-on-it-medikal-spills/ Sun, 25 Feb 2024 09:34:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2361062 Rapper, Medikal has shed light on a past encounter with fellow artiste M.anifest which has created animosity between them.

Medikal clarified that his issue was not with M.anifest but with another rapper, Strongman, with whom he had engaged in a lyrical battle.

However, during the exchange, Strongman collaborated with M.anifest, who indirectly referenced Medikal in a verse.

The line in question, “w’ani nkum a wo se omo ada” (meaning they aren’t sleepy, stop claiming they are dozing off), from M.anifest’s verse, caught Medikal off guard as he had no prior confrontation with the seasoned rapper and held him in high esteem as a senior in the industry.

In response, Medikal penned a counter diss track, which further escalated tensions between himself and M.anifest.

Despite their differences, they were later approached for a collaboration with another artiste, to which both initially agreed.

However, when M.anifest learned of Medikal’s involvement in the project, he reportedly requested that his verse be taken out, expressing his reluctance to collaborate with him in any capacity.

Medikal expressed surprise at M.anifest’s decision, feeling that their disagreement was not that deep to warrant such a drastic response.

Despite the setback, Medikal remains optimistic about future collaborations and hopes to mend fences with M.anifest.

“I didn’t listen to the album. I don’t even know about that,” M.anifest expressed, indicating his lack of interest in Medikal’s music.

He further went on to detach himself from Medikal completely, stating, “How can I have a problem when we don’t even know each other?”

When asked how he does not know Medikal, he clarified that he may have heard of him, but might not have paid attention to him or his craft.

It is unclear the genesis of their feud, but netizens have speculated it is due to a line in M.anifest’s song in which he made reference to the term ‘Omo ada’ widely used by Medikal.

Eno Barony out-rapped me the first time we met on a radio station – M.anifest http://34.58.148.58/eno-barony-out-rapped-me-the-first-time-we-met-on-a-radio-station-m-anifest/ Sat, 15 Apr 2023 17:58:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2239802 Musician M.anifest says he was surprised at the rapping skills of his female colleague, Eno Barony when they first met on a radio station.

He explained that Eno Barony out-rapped him when they were given the floor to exhibit their rap talent.

“I remember the first time I was on the radio station with her when I saw her, she out-rapped me, I was like ‘oh my goodness, who is this one?’” he said in an interview with the BBC.

He described the presence of Eno Barony in the music space as the “breaking of the glass ceiling moment.”

Commenting on male dominants in the Ghana music industry, rapper M.anifest said the industry is still sexist, thus preventing a lot of women from joining the industry.

He explained that it is difficult for women to operate in the industry, adding they are unable to do some of the things their male counterparts have the privilege of doing.

“The truth about why there aren’t many women involved in hiplife and in the music space is that the space unfortunately is still quite sexist.

“It is difficult for a woman to operate in these spaces, whether it is as simple as night sessions in the studio,” M.anifest said.

M.anifest noted that every successful music scene in the world is flooded with women, adding “So, if we want to succeed, bring the gals dem[sic].”

However, Eno Barony who also spoke to BBC in an interview revealed that she was dealing with some insecurities because many people questioned her weight following her break into the music industry.

Eno Barony said it was deemed as if her weight had an influence on the music she makes.

“When I came into the music scene, I never saw girls my size. Most of the girls I was seeing were, let me say skinnier.

“People were talking about my image so much. Why are you like this? Why are you not going to look like this, and stuff? So it was bothering me.

The rapper said that she grew to be confident despite comments and criticisms about her weight.

“When I accepted myself for who I am, I did a song called ‘Heavy Load’, and I realised oh, I have fans who are just like me and are looking up to me, the way I dress, everything I do,” she said,

Eno Barony who was optimistic about women succeeding in the music scene added that “So if you see a woman doing anything male-dominated, you don’t doubt it.”

Black Sherif’s Kwaku the Traveller song, four days after its release, became the number one song in Nigeria with no Nigerian act featured – something that has never happened before.

After attaining the feat, M.anifest took to his Twitter page to eulogise the 20-year-old rapper who is currently inundating social media with his works.

According to M.anifest, Black Sherif is a boundary breaker. He wrote: Kwaku the traveler. Blacko the boundary breaker, adding an emoji of a winning cup and a bulls eye spot.

Few moments after compliments started pouring in for him on social media, Black Sherif, who is also topping the charts in Ghana, thanked the Nigerians for supporting him.

His influx in the country was fueled by his Second Sermon remix with Burna Boy.

Since their collaboration, Burna Boy has been performing the song on his recent tours around the globe.

Undoubtedly, Black Sherif will become the first musician to attain such a status in Nigeria, after Gyakie also topped the Apple Music charts with her Forever remix featuring Omah Lay last year.

According to the GodMC hitmaker, he has not received any money from the Organisation.

The award-winning artiste made the revelation when he was hosted by KMJ on Showbiz Now on Joy Prime TV.

M.anifest, who is about to release an album this year, emphasised that the situation at GHAMRO is a system issue.

He said if those in charge do not fix it now, it will worry many upcoming musicians.

When asked if he is registered with the Organisation, he said that he did not have to register to earn monies from his own creative works.

Stating other examples, he said he has been receiving royalties from other international rights organisations even as an unregistered musician, so that should not be a problem.

This comes in the wake of Stonebwoy’s rants over the ¢2,000 he has received from GHAMRO as royalties in his entire career as a musician.

M.anifest is currently promoting his new single ‘La Vida’, which is off the ‘Madina To The Universe’ album set to be released this year.

M.anifest reveals his greatest fear in life http://34.58.148.58/m-anifest-reveals-his-greatest-fear-in-life/ Thu, 25 Mar 2021 17:56:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1939044 A sleekly dressed M.anifest enters the JoyNews studio. He is right on time.

“Ready for the interview?” I ask. ‘‘Yes,’’ he says. “Thank you so much for your support”.

The interview hasn’t even begun but he is already in a state of gratitude. For someone who has been doing this for ages, humility sure precedes him.

Nervous at first, I relax knowing this is going to be a great interview.

In this interview we talk about the 2021 Grammys and lessons African musicians should take from the award scheme.

We touch on the Covid-19 pandemic and how it affected him.

In his new single the God MC does it again, lyrically captivating and inspiring the listener, this time featuring American rapper Vic Mensa and singer Moliy in his single NoFear.

He tells me about Gbeketee a dog he just met at the beach where he shot his music video. He also shares his thoughts on his father’s performance in the court room during the election petition.

This interview has been edited for purposes of brevity and clarity.

How has life been with Covid-19 and all?

Last year was very successful for me. It allowed me to pivot and do different things. Like go outside the normal of studio and shows. It allowed me to use my creativity beyond what people are used to. I also got a chance to record a lot.

Let’s take it back to the beginning of your career, why did you choose to go with the name M.anifest?

It was a struggle to find a name. It came through something that I was writing, a verse. You know in our culture your name is what precedes you. M.anifest had a spiritual essence and so it made sense to me. It was a complete accident that made sense.

Talking about spiritually. Are you spiritual or religious?

Definitely more of the spiritual vibe. I mean I cannot justify not being any kind of spiritual, being able to do what I do. It’s not a calculation, it’s not something that can be taught in school. You can be taught the mechanics but these things that come with it, is spiritual. It’s something that comes from within.

Tell me about M.anifestivites 2020. How was it?

It felt special. It was intimate. It was a challenge. It nearly didn’t happen but I felt like I put one of my best performances.

What’s the inspiration behind your new single NoFear?

The thoughts and the words just roll off my tongue. The idea of fearlessness is very important to me because I chose to walk the road less travelled. What is the use of fear? You have to have those days where you say to yourself that chale no fear.

What’s your biggest fear?

My biggest fear is that I will live a life unfulfilled and not realise the promise of my potential.

MORE:

How do you plan on overcoming that fear?

By constantly working, doing what I am supposed to do and not being complacent. I want to contribute to the world more than I take from it. Allow myself to revaluate everything I do. Reflect, reflect, and reflect. Lastly, go into beast mode.

Tell us about the dog that featured in your NoFear music video

There was a young boy walking on the beach with his dog and it just tickled my fancy. I interacted with the dog and my director and I thought he should feature.

The most amazing thing about the dog is his name, Gbeketee which means night time in Ghana. I just liked the sound of the name.

Let’s talk about the Grammys and what it means for African musicians like you?

In particular, to Burna Boy, I think it’s an inspiring win. He has been putting quality music for a long time, with the same consistency. His team works very hard and they have made very strategic moves in the last couple of years.

It’s very inspiring for artists who dare to be different to see somebody like him win. I think it’s great.

We need to acknowledge when these barriers are being broken. To actually acknowledge that contemporary African music is worthy, is cool. We don’t need the acknowledgement but it is great because it’s breaking more doors. Big up to Burna Boy.

What did the Burna Boy’s Grammy win do to you personally?

Because I have a personal relationship with him obviously I was very happy for him. I was very much amused watching the discussions that took place here in Ghana.

All I was thinking is that I hope people take the right things from such events, which is number 1, congratulate and stop looking at it as a chance to throw dust in other people’s eyes.

Number 2, start looking at raising your bar and standards. I am only concerned that other young creatives will take the wrong cues from this. You should be inspired by other people’s progress.

How did it feel watching your dad (Tsatsu Tsikata) who was lawyer for the petitioner during the election petition, in action?

It’s like the Grammy wins, it’s very inspiring. He is brilliant clearly. It’s quite inspiring to see that at age 70, somebody has that kind of sharpness, dedication and rigour to his work. That tells me that when I am that age I should also have that same kind of vim.

The interview ends with a note of appreciation from the rapper. A shout out to all the people that have been supporting him. He promises to take his craft and art to higher heights. “Elevation, constant elevation” that’s what the God MC has in store for us this year.

The song preaches against racism among other political gestures that Sarkodie believes are still keeping Africans in slavery.

Per Sarkodie’s lyrics in the song, he believes the whole idea of Africans thinking they are free from slavery is a mirage.

According to him, what others in other parts of the world wouldn’t want Africans to achieve is unity.

We were stuck on a slave ship but now we are free but we are not totally free now we are only on stage 6.

M.anifest also came in to address the fact that Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, was overthrown when he tried uniting Africa.

He touched on Africans paying too much heed to religion when manufacturing factories should be the way forward.

M.anifest didn’t spare leaders of Africa as he claimed many of them have lost integrity because they are selling their own people for money.

We pray for rapture instead of focusing on manufacture. Religion is a prison and we are dying to be living and we losing our minds as we thinking of winning as we bounded to the chains of foreign exchange, it’s a damn shame.

We love free things as black people, our leaders have no integrity. Ghana should be beyond aid, I don’t care if the West is against us we must unite and fight.

Amid the controversy, M.anifest was roped into the fray when he subsequently featured on Kelvynv Boy’s 2019 single, ‘Yawa No Dey’ with some of the God MC’s lyrics supposedly cited to have been directed at the latter’s former mentor, Stonebwoy.

But speaking on the show, the Bhimnation Chief Executive Officer dismissed any suspected undertone of antagonism.

“I think M.anifest just did a verse. He was not involved in anything. After the verse he did, the masses and some of the comments pointed out some things that I think he would go and check later and be like ‘aww… was this what I just got involved in?’. So taking it from that perspective, I didn’t hold it too hard,” he said.

MORE:

According to him, M.anifest is a brother and any supposed qualms between them was an illusion created by some fans.

“I just left it because if I had any personal issues with M.anifest, then I can accept the fact that the punchlines he dropped as a lyricist and I might have taken it personal,”he said.

He believed M.anifest’s involvement in the said beef was without ill-motive.

The multiple award-winning M.dot also corroborated this assertion.

He explained to host, Emefa Apawu that his ties with Stonebwoy would not allow the two to have any confrontation lyrically as they have had interactions without tensions following the said incident.

“There is nothing too serious. We are allowed to have disagreements and that’s fine. Sometimes people have things going on with other people and if you work with them, they feel some ways about it. That’s also part of the game. But more importantly, we met and if there is any serious problem we would have addressed it,” he said.

Both artistes also revealed that they have two yet-to-be-released records in the offing, drumming home the assertion of a good bond.

“We have two songs. I think we recorded a song before the one that brought the whole controversy. Maybe when we do another one after then you will know that there is really no ‘wahala’,” Stonebwoy added as M.anifest nodded in agreement via the Zoom conference.

I don’t have a Master Degree – M.anifest http://34.58.148.58/i-dont-have-a-master-degree-m-anifest/ Fri, 20 Dec 2019 16:41:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1734735 Rapper M.anifest says though many of his fans see him as someone who has achieved the highest university degree, he only has a Bachelor Degree in Economics.

This comes as a surprise to many who think he has achieved all he should in the academic field before veering off into music.

M.anifest has disclosed in many interviews that most of his family members and friends thought he would be a lawyer in future due to his background and academic excellence in school.

His dad, Mr Tsatsu Tsikata lectured at the law faculty of the University of Ghana, with some of his students being Kwamena Ahwoi, Alban Bagbin, former Majority Leader in the Parliament of Ghana and Freddie Blay, former First Deputy speaker in the Parliament of Ghana.

But, speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Thursday, monitored by Adomonline.com, the ‘God MC’ said he has nothing than a Bachelor Degree in economics.

“I don’t have a Master Degree. I have a master in music because I have mastered the art. I have a Bachelor Degree in economics,” he said.

Ghana’s music business too small but… – M.anifest http://34.58.148.58/ghanas-music-business-too-small-but-m-anifest/ Fri, 20 Dec 2019 16:34:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1734664 Rapper M.anifest says Ghana’s music business is too small for artistes.

According to him, when Ghanaian artistes get to a certain level, they outgrow the industry.

M.anifest, who lives by the motto ‘Local First, Global Second’ told Kojo Yankson on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM that the local industry helps an artiste to have a base for whatever he/she is doing.

“For instance, in my music, my trajectory began changing when I came back to Ghana, because it wasn’t global to local (anymore) but became local to global.

SEE THIS:

“So, expanding out of Ghana, with a centred identity, that is respected in the local, was that important thing,” the ‘Nowhere Cool’ rapper said.

M.anifest, however, said that as important as the local industry is, if artistes are playing in the local field alone, then they are limiting themselves.

He added that breaking through other areas while making collaborations has made him grow.

“If you look at the first half of the year (2019), I was incubating more locally but even doing things like being the keynote speaker at the Ephraim Amu Memorial Lecture. It’s one of these groundbreaking things that no other artiste has been able to do,” he said.

The ‘Big Mad’ hitmaker explained that some of these steps have helped put a different stamp on his brand.

He added that making an appearance on the Grammy-nominated Burna Boy album was very exciting for many people, especially because of its content.

“As a musician there’s no better joy than making inroads,” M.anifest noted.

M.anifest is holding his annual Christmas event dubbed Manifestivies. The event, which will be held on Sunday, December 22, will feature artistes like Nigeria’s Adekunle Gold, Cina Soul, Kelvyn Boy and many others.
