Akosua Serwaa surprises Odo Broni in court with pictures of her marriage with Lumba in Germany http://34.58.148.58/akosua-serwaa-surprises-odo-broni-in-court-with-pictures-of-her-marriage-with-lumba-in-germany/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 09:18:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604053 Akosua Serwaa Fosu, the plaintiff in the Kumasi High Court widowhood case involving late musician Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, surprised the defendants by presenting photographs of her civil marriage to the late singer in 2004 in Bornheim, Germany.

During proceedings on Monday, November 24, 2025, counsel for Akosua Serwaa, William Kusi, sought the court’s permission to have Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the first defendant and head of the Ekuona family at Parkoso, identify the late musician in the photographs.

The defense lawyers immediately objected, describing the exhibits as “surprises.”

The objection was based on the claim that the timing and context of the photos were unclear, and the defendants had not been given the chance to cross-examine on the exhibits beforehand. Counsel for the second defendant, Priscilla Ofori, Kwasi Mensah Nyarko, also objected to their admission.

When questioned by the presiding judge, Justice Dorinda Smith-Arthur, William Kusi explained that the photographs were part of the marriage certificate and other documents obtained from Germany.

He noted that the exhibits arrived late, which delayed their filing in court. Despite the objections, the judge admitted the photos as evidence.

During cross-examination, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu identified some of the photographs but stated he was not present when they were taken. He also addressed queries about Odo Broni’s marriage ring in the photos, explaining that rings are normally worn on the fourth finger of the left hand.

Counsel for the plaintiff pressed further, questioning details about the photographs, including whether the images could have been photoshopped. Abusuapanin insisted he could not confirm their authenticity, as he was not present at the time the photos were taken.

The case continues, with the court expected to deliver its ruling on Friday, November 28, 2025.

This development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing dispute over the late musician’s marital status and rightful heirs.

MUSIGA to honour Lumba, others with Music Museum, Hall of Fame http://34.58.148.58/musiga-to-honour-lumba-others-with-music-museum-hall-of-fame/ Tue, 12 Aug 2025 15:58:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2566382 The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has unveiled ambitious plans to immortalise the legacy of Ghanaian music legends, including Highlife icon Daddy Lumba, who died recently, with a national Music Museum and Hall of Fame.

This development comes as public concern grows over the inadequate recognition and documentation of Ghana’s music pioneers, particularly those who helped shape Highlife, a genre deeply rooted in our cultural heritage.

Speaking to Graphic Showbiz on August 5, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons revealed that MUSIGA is actively collaborating with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) to establish an essential national music archive.

According to him, the proposed museum will serve as a permanent record of Ghana’s rich musical history, including various genres, landmark moments and key personalities who have defined the country’s music.

“We are embarking on documenting our artists. There is no data about them anywhere,” Simons stated, noting that “for instance, when you mention a great musician like CK Mann, there is no proper documentation on him. We will include Lumba in the list. That is the reason why we want a national music archive to honour such icons.

“In addition to the music museum where the history and contributors to Highlife will be preserved, we will make sure that all other genres done in Ghana are also there. And we will fuse it with a Hall of Fame, so that if you go to this place, you will see that everything that has to do with music in Ghana is there.”

Beyond these facilities, MUSIGA is also set to launch a series of activities in honour of Daddy Lumba and other fallen stars. These will include nationwide tribute concerts and educational workshops to highlight Highlife’s evolution and its continued relevance.

“There will be a special tribute concert and workshops for people to know what Lumba did with Highlife, because he brought a different kind of contribution to the genre.

“A special seminar on Highlife music will be organised at the end of the year by stakeholders, including the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Arts Agency, Ghana Tourism Authority, Commission on Culture and Folklore Board.

Mr Simons emphasised that MUSIGA has been in talks with relevant parties to push for formal recognition of Highlife as part of Ghana’s intangible cultural heritage. They hope this move will be finalised by November.

“We started efforts even before Daddy Lumba passed away,” Simons stated. “We want UNESCO to list Highlife as one of the intangible cultural heritage, making it a cornerstone in discussions around music globally. Just like how Jamaica readily comes to mind at the mention of Reggae, we want it to be the same for Ghana whenever Highlife is mentioned,” he stated.

Finally, the MUSIGA President stressed the need to reconnect younger generations with Highlife music. He lamented that many youth have drifted away from the genre, partly due to a lack of national support and positive storytelling around its value.

“We must work hard to inspire young people to embrace Highlife. Too often, the genre is overlooked or dismissed, but it remains the foundation of much of the music we enjoy today. Every modern sound in Ghana carries echoes of Highlife,” Simons concluded.

Lumba’s ‘best friend’ reveals one dream he failed to fulfill http://34.58.148.58/lumbas-best-friend-reveals-one-dream-he-failed-to-fulfill/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 14:54:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2563257

Ghana’s music legend, Daddy Lumba, may have achieved monumental success in his career, but his closest confidant, Ernest Toah Akonor (E.T. Akonor Jnr), has revealed a poignant truth—the Highlife maestro harboured a dream he never got to fulfil: becoming a Pan-Africanist.

Beyond the chart-topping hits and sold-out concerts, Lumba envisioned using his influence to champion African unity and cultural exchange across the continent.

Tragically, that dream was cut short by his sudden passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital, Accra.

In an emotional interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, July 29, at his East Legon residence, Mr Akonor—Lumba’s best friend, whom he met 32 years ago but bonded closely with in the last 10 years—shared intimate details about the icon’s aspirations.

Mr Akonor, also known as E.T., noted that even though he could authoritatively say Lumba was fulfilled as a musician, the latter looked forward to being a Pan-African advocate to promote African unity.

“He was fulfilled as a musician. He achieved everything he set out to do. He battled with health issues and prayed he celebrated his 60th birthday, which he did last year. But one thing he couldn’t accomplish was his desire to promote African unity as a Pan-Africanist. After reaching the peak of his career, he felt the time was right to use his platform for something bigger. Sadly, life had other plans.”

E.T., who speaks fondly of his departed friend, noted Lumba’s ability to embody both fame and popularity as a rare feat in the entertainment industry.

“His popularity is unmatched. It is very difficult to get someone who is famous and popular at the same time. Being famous or popular is not the same, but he embodied both, which made him not your regular artiste. He was a gem.”

The bond between Lumba and E.T. could be described as one of destiny. Their first meeting was in 1993 at a Kaneshie mechanic shop, where they bonded over Lumba’s then-hit Biribi Gyegye Wo.

“We played the song, laughed at the lyrics, and connected instantly,” E.T. reminisced.

But life pulled them apart—until fate intervened again. They reconnected during the 2006 World Cup in Germany, then again at Legends Night in 2011. However, it was a 2015 reunion, sparked by a simple phone call and a visit, that cemented their unbreakable bond.

“Lumba was an introvert, so when he followed me home after my first visit, he jokingly asked if I had charmed him since that was something he hardly did. It was after that that we built a strong bond and he would later publicly call me his best friend, which no one ever contested.”

Akonor painted a portrait of Lumba as a very intelligent, wise person and meticulous artiste who consulted many, including musician Adomako Nyamekye, to perfect his lyrics.

“He wasn’t just a singer; he was a thinker. Every word in his songs carried weight.”

Despite his health challenges, Lumba remained dedicated to his craft, always writing songs and pushing the boundaries of his creativity. Even as his body weakened, his mind remained sharp, constantly crafting lyrics and refining his art.

“He wrote Yentie Obia in a wheelchair—that’s how dedicated he was.”

In the defence of his cherished friend, Mr Akonor slammed individuals spreading false information to tarnish Lumba’s reputation.

“I can tell you on authority that Daddy Lumba didn’t know about the events that people claimed they paid him to perform at. Even on the day he died, that is July 26, an event organiser was promoting him as a headline artiste for a show in the US, but we didn’t know anything about it.”

He prayed Lumba’s music would be institutionalised so that future generations would appreciate his gift.

“People listen to Bob Marley’s songs that were written 50 years ago. That’s the kind of memory I want for my brother, that 59 years down the line, people will still appreciate his music.”

Ghanaians immortalise Lumba – Candlelight event at Independence Square tonight http://34.58.148.58/ghanaians-immortalise-lumba-candlelight-event-at-independence-square-tonight/ Sat, 02 Aug 2025 15:44:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2562781 His voice still blares from speakers in pubs, lingers in market waves, slips through car windows, and hums through playlists on radio and television, but he lies in silence.

Aben wo aha, but Lumba wɔ aseɛ hɔ.

The fire raged, the dance never stopped, the lyrics still sting with joy and truth, yet today, the voice that made even sorrow sound sweet is quiet.

The man, whose music stitched itself into the very rhythm of our lives, has taken his final bow.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, was not just a name, but a mood, a memory, a movement. In a period he had reached over 35 years of setting stages ablaze, he vanished like a final note fading into dusk.

Tonight, a national candlelight vigil is being held at the Independence Square in his memory, with a book of condolence already opened by the family at his radio station, DLFM (106.9 MHz) and residence since last Tuesday.

Just last September, he turned 60, and for the first time, he let us in, not through a song, but through a rare celebration.

He laughed, he waved, he glowed. Maybe, he was saying goodbye.

Now the stage is empty, but the spotlight remains.

The beat may pause, but the legend? He lives on in every note that dares to carry his name.

Though he was one of Ghana’s most celebrated stars, Daddy Lumba remained intensely private.

He rarely granted interviews or courted publicity, choosing instead to let his music speak for him.

In 1998, Gaddy Laryea’s Media Majique and Research Systems, the firm responsible for organising the Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant, went through a herculean task to get him to perform on stage live as part of the event.

It was the very first time Ghanaians would see Daddy Lumba wow his fans in a live stage performance, shattering doubts about his stagecraft.

Emmanuel Krampah, who was the General Manager at Media Whiz Kids, the event organising unit of MMRS, said Daddy Lumba’s Manager at the time, the late Kwasi Brenyah, then of Peace FM, executed the contract.

His quiet nature added to the mystique, making every rare appearance feel like a privilege.

Collective grief

Even in death, Daddy Lumba is bringing people together, not under concert lights this time, but through shared tears and glowing memories.

To the gospel singing trio, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, the connection ran deeper than sound.

“We used to call him our big brother. I recall the days we recorded in the same studio in Germany.

He was soft-spoken, so lovable, so kind.

After studio sessions, we’d go home and eat together; that’s who he was,” said Cynthia Appiadu, the soprano singer of the group.

For Edna Sarpong, also a member of the group, Lumba’s strength lay not just in vocals, but in restraint.

“He was slow to anger, quiet in the face of media noise. He hardly responded; he let the music speak.

The way he strung words together, the way he brought stories to life in songs, it was unmatched,” she said.

And for Monica Owusu Ansah, also a glorious daughter, the void feels even deeper.

“I wish he had left a protégé, someone to carry that torch. When you listen to his gospel songs, you feel it.

Yes, he may not have seemed ‘too churchy’ for some, but the man had a heart for God.

That guy could sing about anything and make you feel everything,” she said.

Gospel act, Diana Asamoah, shared similar sentiments: “Daddy Lumba wasn’t just a highlife legend; he was a man who knew God in his own quiet, personal way.

Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, spoke from a place of personal loss.

“Daddy Lumba was a national asset.

A friend, a man whose voice comforted us in private pain and public joy.

This one hurts; we didn’t just lose an artiste, I lost a personal friend.”

President John Mahama also joined the national chorus of mourning with a tribute on Facebook.

“Lumba’s unmatched musical genius provided the soundtrack to our lives, carrying us through various phases of life.

The beats to his memorable songs may have died down, but his enduring legacy will echo through the ages.”

Other entertainers such as Sarkodie, Guru, Sista Afia, M.anifest, Pat Thomas and Wendy Shay have also paid glowing tributes, honouring the incredible gift he shared with the world.

Charting immortality

In the days following his passing, Lumba’s music has flooded digital platforms.

On Apple Music Ghana, 30 of his songs entered the Top 100, with Makra Mo shooting straight to No.1.

His political anthem, Nana Ye Winner, released ahead of the 2008 elections, boldly stepped into the political space.

Yet, his fan base remained solid, proof of a legacy that transcended party lines.

Daddy Lumba’s true magic was not just in his beat, it was also in his words, his mastery of Asante Twi, laced with wit, proverbs, giving his music unmatched depth.

You didn’t always catch every word. But you felt every meaning.

His songs captured everyday realities from financial struggles (Sika Asem, Ohia Asem) to romantic highs (Se Sumye Kasa, Odo Nti) and even sensual themes (Tokuro Mu, Awooso). Yet, even when he flirted with controversy, he did it with class, never crass.

Lumba also reminded us of faith (Mesom Jesus, Yesu Ka Yen Ho), gratitude (Theresa), and truth (Yentie Obiaa). He was a master of double meaning — Obi Ate Me So Buɔ, Biribi Gyegye Wo and Sesee Wo Se — prove that.

But what struck me most was how he faced death.

He didn’t shy away from it, he sang about it.

Songs like Makra Mo, Yemfa Odo, and Adaka Teaa were his way of writing his own eulogy.

Givers Herbal Centre settles Lumba, Ampong beef http://34.58.148.58/givers-herbal-centre-settles-lumba-ampong-beef/ Tue, 31 Jan 2023 15:37:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2211238 Chief Executive Officer of Givers Herbal Centre, Dr Solomon Kwabi, has resolved the confusion that reared its ugly head between highlife legend Daddy Lumba and gospel musician, Isaiah Ampong.

As part of resolving the long-standing feud, the CEO of Givers Herbal Centre last Friday presented an undisclosed amount of money to Ampong.

The fight, otherwise called beef, between the two music giants has existed since 2018, but it was the content of a song by Daddy Lumba titled ‘Ofon Na Edi Asem Fo’ that reignited the simmering feud.

Owing to the content of the song, ‘Ofon Na Edi Asem Fo’, accompanied by a stern warning to all his detractors, a section of the public claimed that Lumba was indeed targeting someone.

“Useless individual, I am not done dealing with him,” Daddy Lumba said, unveiling the song on Accra-based DL FM in December 2022.

The development resuscitated his long-standing beef with gospel singer, Isaiah Ampong, alias Great Ampong, who says the ‘diss’ song was directed at him. He equally responded with a song ‘Onyame Akatua (God’s Judgment)’.

Both have denied targeting each other with the respective songs, however.

Dr Kwabi told journalists in an interview at his Accra office that, it is time for the long-standing beef to come to an end, hence his decision to settle it.

“I have a good relationship with both Daddy Lumba and Ampong, and the beef between them is not helpful for the music industry so I decided to intervene to make peace prevail,” he said.

According to the founder of Givers Herbal Centre, he has made some cash donations to Ampong to cushion him as part of the peace process, especially since Ampong continues to express anger over some GH¢360,000 proceeds from an album launch with Daddy Lumba, which he alleges Lumba pocketed.

Dr Kwabi was happy that Ampong accepted the offer and promised to end his beef with the highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

On his part, Ampong commended the CEO of Givers Herbal Centre for showing interest in resolving the beef, giving assurance that he will never attack Daddy Lumba.

Daddy Lumba, Bob Marley music inspires me – Popular female pastor http://34.58.148.58/daddy-lumba-bob-marley-music-inspires-me-popular-female-pastor/ Mon, 27 Jun 2022 17:37:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2131211 The leader and founder of the Faith Way International Church, Pastor Mrs Selina Baidoo, says the songs of the legendary Daddy Lumba and Bob Marley give her a lot of inspiration.

She indicated that she loves the songs of Daddy Lumba and Bob Marley because their lyrics are fraught with deep meanings.

Pastor Baidoo in an interview on Accra-based Atinka FM mentioned that the songs of the two musicians also educate the masses about issues affecting society.

Though she can’t sing their songs, she added that the songs of the two acts contain inspirational messages that could guide the masses in their day to day activities on earth.

According to Pastor Baidoo, Daddy Lumba sings to educate and entertain people, yet some have failed to appreciate his contribution to the progress of society, adding that “whatever you will do, it won’t be to one’s satisfaction, and there is no one on this earth you should try to please, just please God.”

Pastor Baidoo’s insightful teachings on numerous topics are broadcast on radio and television on a weekly basis to bless this generation. She is also a pastor with a strong prophetic gifting.

Her emphasis on salvation, healing, deliverance and encouragement amazes a lot of viewers.

She is also a philanthropist. She, therefore, undertakes a great number of humanitarian outreaches and extends a hand of support to the poor and needy in society.

Daddy Lumba look-alike changes name after lawsuit http://34.58.148.58/daddy-lumba-look-alike-changes-name-after-lawsuit/ Thu, 05 Apr 2018 07:57:26 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1046241 Highlife musician Kwame Anokye, widely known as Daddy Lumba Junior, has changed his name following a recent suit filed by Daddy Lumba against him for impersonation.
According to the young artiste who has always taken inspiration from Daddy Lumba, he decided to change his name to save him the wrath of his ‘godfather.’
“I have now chosen Kwame Supremo. I think it also portrays my brand and since I don’t want to have issues with Daddy, I have decided to drop DL Junior for this,” he had told citinewsroom.com in an exclusive interview.
At present, his Facebook account bears the name ‘Kwame Supremo,’ indicating that he has finally dropped DL (Daddy Lumba) Junior.
On 17th January, 2018, Daddy Lumba filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court alleging that Kwame Anokye also known as DL Junior, had claimed to be his son and even impersonated him to get gifts from people.
He further alleged that Anokye had a history of impersonating him since his appearance on a TV Africa-produced reality show, ‘Just Like You’ which was produced in 2010.
‘Just Like You’ was a reality TV show which gave artistes the platform to mimic their favourite celebrities. DL Junior, on that show imitated Daddy Lumba.
After the show, Kwame Anokye (DL Jnr.) who has similar looks as Daddy Lumba has been plying his trade as a musician.
The plaintiff stated that since the name Daddy Lumba was exclusively associated to him within the music industry and that no one goes by that name, the defendant’s imitation and misrepresentation has affected his reputation, business and goodwill and the brand as a whole.
The case is still in pending in court even though DL Junior (now Anokye Supremo) had sent a delegation of music stakeholders to plead with Daddy Lumba to withdraw the case from court.
DL Junior is known for his songs Befa Me, Efri Nea Efire and Hye Wo Ho Den, Krom Aye De, among others.

He told Delay on the Delays Show in an interview on GH One TV over the weekend that he would take his share of the proceeds from their album launch and music sales wherever he met Daddy Lumba.
“Wherever I meet Lumba I will take my money. I will not be hypocritical to pretend I wasn’t bitter about what he did. I have moved on but I will collect my money from him,” he said.
With the bad experience he had with Daddy Lumba he said he would never do collaboration with any artiste again, adding that he wrote all the songs on the ‘Hosanna’ album and would not allow anybody to benefit from his sweat.

Background to the Lumba – Ampong Rift
In 2015, Great Ampong decided to do a collaborative album with the legendary Daddy Lumba so he approached him with the idea and Lumba agreed to do it. They worked with the name Kwadwo Kwadwo.
According too Ampong, they had an agreement that he (Ampong) would take 40 % and Lumba 60 % from whatever money came out of their project.
After the launch, Daddy Lumba refused to give Ampong his share of the proceeds and that has been the source of the rancour.
For some music fans, this is not the first time Great Ampong has intimated that he would take his money from Daddy Lumba. However, Daddy Lumba has been quiet on the matter since it came up.

Nana Acheampong the other half of renowned music duo, Lumba Brothers a group which made ‘Borga highlife’ popular in Ghana in the late 70s and early 80s made the shocking revelation on Kumasi-based Abusua Fm last Saturday.
The ‘Champion Lover Boy’ made his assertion during the weekend in response to what actually caused a break in the relationship between himself and his other half of Lumba Brothers, Charles Kojo Fosu (Daddy Lumba).
In his response, Nana Acheampong replied that, he and Lumba never had any problem, indicating that, he even featured Lumba in an early album after they decided to go solo.
Explaining further, Nana said, “I think people will conclude that because of how we started and the good relationship we had. So people exaggerated finally that, there was a grudge between us. I will say it was people who created those ‘beef’ it weren’t real”.
The ‘refuse to grow’ legend noted that, their break was as a result of a good decision they all took, adding that, they are yet to record the return of the “Lumba Brothers”.
‘We have made some recordings which we intend to release but due to time factor, it’s not been completed”
Nana Acheampong has been in the music industry for 26 years with 26 albums to his credit. He hinted of plans to celebrate his 26 years in music this year with Daady Lumba.

Video: Musician wants DNA test to prove Daddy Lumba is his father http://34.58.148.58/video-musician-wants-dna-test-prove-daddy-lumba-father/ Wed, 19 Apr 2017 16:10:14 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=84631 A musician, nicknamed Daddy Lumba Jnr., strongly believes that veteran highlife musician Daddy Lumba is his father.

According to Kwame Anokye, who bears a striking resemblance with the veteran highlife sensation, it couldn’t be mere coincidence that he resembles and behaves like Daddy Lumba.

The 32-year-old musician, therefore, wants a DNA test to ascertain if Daddy Lumba is his father.

Daddy Lumba Jnr., revealed in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manson on the Delay Show that even his ‘real’ dad alleges that his mum, who passed away when he was seven years, may have had an affair with Daddy Lumba.

Kwame Anokye said his dad consistently complains that he does not know why he did not take after him but rather looks and behaves like Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu.

The musician dismisses suggestions that he may be simply obsessed with the ‘Aben Wo Ha’ hit singer.

To Daddy Lumba Jnr, the veteran musician is a god whom he worships and believes that God chose Daddy Lumba for him as a father.

The musician, who says he has been possessed by a ‘Daddy Lumba spirit’ and therefore behaves like him, disclosed that he sometimes dreams about Daddy Lumba’s songs before they are released.

Asked if he has met the veteran musician before, Kwame Anokye said he first met him in 1998 and recalled that the highlife great gave him 2000 old cedis (20p now). He has also performed with him before.
