The mother of one via her Instagram page talked about how young ladies should focus on being their boss rather than praying to marry rich men.

According to her, young women should find and fight for their dreams rather than praying to get a rich man.

She took to her verified Instagram page with over 6.2 million followers and wrote:

”Dear young lady, instead of praying to God for a rich man to locate you, why don’t you pray to God to make you a ‘rich man’? Because what happens if the rich man leaves? ?? you start hustling for another one? C’mon, that’s too much stress ?.

The events of the last few days has left me really sad and horrified. But Nigeria is our country, It’s the only home we have, so we have to make it work. We all have to do our parts.
.
And here’s my part! You’ll know I’m big on female entrepreneurship and women being financially independent, so it breaks my heart to see women who have strived for years to stay afloat lose their businesses overnight. Not fair! So If you’re a female entrepreneur residing in Lagos and your business was destroyed or looted and you need help to get back on your feet, pls send me an email lindaikeji1980@gmail.com.
.
I’m focusing on women with small scale businesses who lost their sources of livelihood. I’d like to help some of you get back on your feet and see if I can get some of my rich friends to also help. Covid-19 already made life difficult for some of us, the events of the last few days will make life unbearable and we can’t just sit back and do nothing.
.
I’d like to help some of you restart your businesses so if you were affected, send me an email ASAP with proof of what was destroyed (videos and photos) and also value of what you lost so we have an idea of how much to help with.
.
I have already set up a team to crosscheck all claims as we receive your emails. Once we confirm you’re truly a victim, I will do what I can and get others to also help. We are all in this together. We have to be our brothers keepers.
.
Anybody who wants to help can also contact me. We will all be helping these business owners directly after we compile a verified list. Nobody is collecting money on behalf of anybody.
.
Nigeria will not fail. God bless everyone ?
.
P.S: when all these dies down and it’s safe to move around, I and a few other female entrepreneurs will pay visits to women who lost their businesses.. and give hugs…among other things! ?. #womensupportingwomen#unitedwestand

Nigeria: 717 rape cases recorded from January to May 2020 – IGP http://34.58.148.58/nigeria-717-rape-cases-recorded-from-january-to-may-2020-igp/ Tue, 16 Jun 2020 17:06:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1812405 The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu says 717 rape incidents have been reported to the police across the country from January-May this year alone.

The IGP made this revelation while speaking with state house correspondents after himself, the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, and the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, met with President Buhari this morning over the increasing incidence of rape cases.

The police chief said 799 suspects have been arrested so far, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court, and 52 cases are left and under investigation.

He added that the COVID19 restriction is responsible for the spike in the number of rape cases.

We are here to brief you on sexual and gender-based violence and the action that the government has been taking, particularly the Nigeria Police.

It has come to the public knowledge now that because of the COVID-19 restrictions, we have a surge in cases of rape and gender-based violence.

These are cases that are now coming up but we want to let members of the public know that, rape and gender-based violence have been there.

The law enforcement agents have been dealing with these cases, in most cases, members of the public are not aware of the actions that the law enforcement agents have been taking.

The Nigeria police so far from January-May 2020, we have recorded about 717 rape incidents that were reported across the country, about 799 suspects have been arrested, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court and 52 cases are left and under investigation., he said.

He called on rape victims to always ensure they report the matter to the police.

MORE:

According to him, remaining silent gives a perpetrator another opportunity to prey on his next victim.

It is a very wicked offense, it is very serious offense, it is very wicked of an individual to engage in rape or defilement.

And there are a lot of causes, some are doing it for ritual purposes, some are doing it because they are within the family and they see the victims and have the urge to go into it and do it. But such people should not be allowed to go scotch free.

I am just to inform you that the government is doing something about it and you can see me with the ministries of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and Women Affairs Development, Pauline Tallen.

From now onward, national partnership with every stakeholder is what we are going into now and not only within the country but within the subregion.

We have to partner with organizations that are involved in this. We know we have been working seriously with UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) and other civil society organizations.

So just to tell you that government is doing something seriously to curtailed this type of offense, he added.

My first blogging job paid only 150 US Dollars – Linda Ikeji http://34.58.148.58/my-first-blogging-job-paid-only-150-us-dollars-linda-ikeji/ Wed, 06 Nov 2019 12:57:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1718723 Nigerian celebrity blogger Linda Ikeji has revealed that she received a meagre 150 US dollars as her first paycheck when she first ventured into the world of blogging.

Her time in the industry has not been without controversy as her blog was shut down by technology giants Google in 2014 for unspecified reasons.

Speaking in an interview on Citi News, Ms. Ikeji indicated that, the business of blogging held so much untapped potential to which she was blind until she first received money for her work.

“My first paycheck was a hundred and fifty dollars. It came to me when I didn’t know we could make money out of blogging. So I wasn’t advertising at that point,” she said.

She said a company came to her to advertise but she declined the offer and just asked that they sent their stories to be published for free.

“I think the company had budgeted for me so the people were keeping the money. So ‘Dena’ got to a point where he got uncomfortable so he insisted I take the money. So that was the first paycheck I got. And that opened my eyes to possibilities,” she added.

According to Linda, other people started coming to her after her first advert and since then she started charging five dollars ($5.00) and ten dollars ($10.00),” she disclosed to Citi News.

The veteran in the industry was in Ghana to participate in the Ghana Bloggers Summit where she shared her expertise with some stakeholders and interested parties.

“The standards have fallen because now everybody has a platform. Just like 20 years ago if you wanted to anything put out, you go to the OX magazine or People or Hello or if you just give birth to a child, they can sell your pictures but now you can put it on Instagram, nobody really cares about that anymore,” she said.

“Now everyone has a platform and they fell they can write anything about anybody and they will get people to criticize and troll,” she said.

Linda also talked about the Nigerian government’s plan to regulate blogging in Nigeria.

According to her, the decision is not necessary because she believes it will be difficult to regulate what people do in the cyberspace.
