He has been granted bail of GH¢300,000 with one surety to be justified.

Citi News reports Dr Aggrey is yet to meet the bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned to 17th October 2022.

Rhodaline Amoah-Darko has been missing since 30th August 2021, as her husband and two others have been standing trial over the matter.

The two others include; Yaw Boateng and Justice Appiah who Rhodaline’s phone was found in their possession.

So far, three teaching assistants of the KNUST lecturer have mounted the witness box and testified.

Although Dr Aggrey in his statement to the police said his wife did not return home on 30th August 2021, and that he slept in the house with his kids and the teaching assistants, the teaching assistants however contradicted his claims.

The teaching assistants told the court that they slept with their lecturer’s kids at their hostel and returned to the house the next day when Rhodaline was not around.

The court had previously denied him bail, but after the lawyers finished the cross-examination for the third witness, it has now granted bail to him.

New twist to ‘kidnap case’ involving KNUST lecturer http://34.58.148.58/new-twist-to-kidnap-case-involving-knust-lecturer/ Sat, 15 Jan 2022 13:11:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2067596 The Asokwa District Court has once again denied bail to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) lecturer facing kidnapping charges following the disappearance of his wife, Rhodaline Amoah Darko.

This comes as the Attorney General’s office takes over prosecutorial duties in the case.

Counsel for the accused, Dr Wilberforce Nkrumah Aggrey, on Friday had prayed the court to grant bail to Dr Aggrey who has been in police custody since his arrest on October 6, 2021.

But the court, presided by His Worship Korkor Achaw Owusu, insisted the severity and nature of the case means the court is unable to grant bail.

This is the second time in three months a court has refused to grant bail to the accused after a Kumasi High Court denied a similar bail application on November 16, 2021.

According to facts of the case made available to the Asokwa District Court, Dr Aggrey sent messages from his wife’s phone on the day he claimed she had been kidnapped.

He complained to the Police on September 2, 2021, that his wife had been kidnapped from her home on the Okodie Road, KNUST.

RELATED:

Police investigations into circumstances leading to the alleged kidnapping revealed messages were sent from the wife’s phone on the same day of her alleged kidnapping.

Some family members and friends of Rhodaline Amoah-Darko and the accused person received the messages informing them of what was happening to her.

Family of missing Lands Commission staff optimistic of finding her alive http://34.58.148.58/family-of-missing-lands-commission-staff-optimistic-of-finding-her-alive/ Mon, 03 Jan 2022 12:55:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2064162 The family of a missing Lands Commission staff is hopeful their kidnapped relative will be found alive.

It’s been four months since Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, who turns 33 on January 3, has gone missing.

Though police have provisionally charged her husband, Dr Wilberforce Nkrumah Aggrey, a lecturer at the Petroleum Department of the KNUST, with kidnapping, the family says the disappearance of the mother of two has left them in pain.

The mother of two, described by her family as loving, caring and lively, is not available to observe her birthday that usually comes with pomp and pageantry.

Her disappearance also means no Christmas celebration for her extended family.

For the family, it is hard to contend with the harsh reality of her disappearance.

“It has been extremely difficult for us. This is the first time the children are not seeing their mother for Christmas, and none of the family celebrated Christmas this time. We are all looking forward to seeing our daughter. So to us, this Christmas didn’t exist.

Members of the extended family, including aunties and uncles, have been meeting on New Year’s day to pray and discuss the way forward for the disappeared Rhodaline.

The family is optimistic their relative will be found alive.

“We all have the faith that she is alive being kept somewhere by these wicked people. And we pray, and we are trusting the Lord that he will bring her alive to us,” says Charlotte Acquah,  Rhodaline’s aunt and also the family spokesperson.

But as optimistic as they are, the family is unsure when Rhodaline will return to the family.

“We are waiting on the Lord. A thousand years is like a day before the Lord. He knows where Rhoda is. Therefore, we are pleading that the time of waiting should be shortened for us so that we see her as soon as possible,” says Madam Acquah.

The family has, since the disappearance, received psychological therapy support from the police.

But the family is challenged in dealing with Rhoda’s two ‘clever’ but emotionally traumatised children who keep asking questions on when their mother is returning.

“Definitely, they would ask. They are not seeing the mother; they are not seeing the father. Isn’t it heartbreaking for these little ones to go through such a thing?” she quizzed.

“At times, you will have to go and hide somewhere; you will weep and think about what to tell the children. It is not easy,” she added.

Meanwhile, Dr Wilberforce Aggrey is expected to appear before the Asokwa District Court on January 14, 2022.

Husband of missing Lands Commission staff in fresh trouble http://34.58.148.58/husband-of-missing-lands-commission-staff-in-fresh-trouble/ Sun, 26 Dec 2021 09:58:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2062290 Forensic examination conducted on a handwritten note found in the car of Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, a staff of the Lands Commission, who has been declared missing, has revealed that it was authored by her husband, Dr Wilberforce Nkrumah Aggrey.

This was disclosed by Police prosecutors during proceedings at the Asokwa District Court on Friday.

The forensic examination, which constitutes the latest evidence on the case was conducted in Accra.

Giving details, the Police prosecutors informed the Court that the note, which read, “Hello Sir, you know our number. Call and pay the ransom,” was written by Dr Aggrey, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

They asserted that the new evidence confirms Dr Aggrey’s culpability in the disappearance of his wife.

This is the second time Police investigators have linked Dr Aggrey to the disappearance of his wife.

When the prosecutors informed the court about the new development, the defense counsel objected to it.

In October, investigations by the Police revealed that the accused sent messages from Rhodaline’s phone to relatives and friends from a spot near the Okodie Road on the KNUST campus, on the day she was allegedly kidnapped.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Benjamin Moore Ankrah, had earlier prayed the court to adjourn proceedings to allow the Attorney-General (A-G) make an appearance.

He explained that the nature of the case requires thorough investigations.

But defense counsel, Frederick Kankam, was unhappy over the number of times the case has had to be adjourned.

He blamed the prosecution for the delays and prayed the Court to make a definite pronouncement for hearing to commence or Case Management Conference to be held.

The Court, presided by Korkor Achaw Owusu, adjourned the hearing to January 14, 2022, to enable the A-G’s office make an appearance.

The accused, Dr Aggrey, is currently on a provisional charge of kidnapping his wife, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, a staff of the Lands Commission Office in Kumasi.
