In an interview on Accra FM, Mr Adorye said the blasting of dynamite affected the voter turnout in the region as many people fled for their safety.

But Mr Kayi has wondered why Mr Adorye who is now the Director of Special Duties for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change has not been arrested or investigated following the claims.

“Is Hopeson’s claims even true? Shouldn’t he be arrested or investigated? How come there was a dynamite scare, and it was never reported in the media? He should come and show us when and where they went to throw the dynamite.

“You can’t joke with even the smallest of dynamites, and he is claiming to have set off dynamite. He should be arrested and made to prove where he obtained the dynamite, whether he bought it or someone gave it to him,” he stated on Accra-based Peace FM.

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., who shared similar sentiments, questioned the absence and lack of action from the security agencies.

“By now, the security agencies should have investigated and come out with a report for us to know whether it is true or not. Why are they quiet and why don’t they want to investigate the claims?” he questioned.

Kwami Sefa Kayi urges NMC, GJA to provide standards for all radio stations http://34.58.148.58/kwami-sefa-kayi-urges-nmc-gja-to-provide-standards-for-all-radio-stations/ Thu, 21 Mar 2024 00:15:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2371309 Award-winning media practitioner and the ‘Chairman-General’ of radio, Kwami Sefa Kayi, has proposed that the National Media Commission (NMC), Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and other media bodies roll out basic standards for all radio stations to adhere to.

He said it will help prevent the outrageous things from being communicated on some radio waves, as well as guide presenters and owners of the stations.

According to him in an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, it would have been good if the rules were established with the advent of media in the country, but the authorities failed, causing people to say inappropriate things on the radio.

To explain his view, the ‘Chairman-General’ said, “I think that basic broadcasting journalism media standards have not been adhered to. First of all, I think we have too many radio stations, and unfortunately, the kind of quality that you’d expect from radio is usually very suspenseful sometimes, unless we don’t want to be truthful.”

He commended the evolution of radio and the media at large. However, he thinks the authorities could have paid proper attention and ensured that basic regulations were enforced at the primary stage.

The majority of stations, he said, are politically and commercially owned and tend to create content in their favour, thereby contributing to the unwavering unprofessionalism within the sector.

But Mr. Kayi feels that, “Between the two of them, someway in there, we should have found proper broadcasting content and standards to guide. Unfortunately, we did not, and we still have not.”

“Sometimes the things you hear on the radio are outrageous, to say the least. We have the Media Commission, the GJA, the Media Foundation for West Africa, and other media watchers, but I don’t know what can be done. You ask yourself, what really are the standards? I think there should be some basic standards we should all follow,” he added.

Having headed the Peace FM morning flagship programme ‘Kokorokoo’ for years, Mr. Kayi shared his reason for switching from the English language to Akan.

He said he needed to change the narrative of people devaluing presenters at local language-speaking stations who were considered low-standard journalists.

As a result, he has no regrets about making the decision because he said he has learned a lot of things from the local dialect, which he was not knowledgeable of. He testifies that he has enjoyed every bit of the journey.

The ‘Chairman-General’ is willing to retire his career at Peace FM, as he has no plans of exiting the station anytime soon.

My death was announced on Facebook while asleep at home – Sefa Kayi http://34.58.148.58/my-death-was-announced-on-facebook-while-asleep-at-home-sefa-kayi/ Fri, 21 Jul 2023 12:15:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2275484 Renowned Ghanaian media personality and host of Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrooko, Kwami Sefa Kayi, has recounted how family and friends were left devasted over news purporting his death.

According to him, he was peacefully sleeping in his house when someone decided to make the claims on Facebook.

“A couple of years ago, about two or three years ago I was sleeping at about 2 am when someone called wifey, when she picked up, the person asked my whereabouts and she said I was beside her. The person then said alright, I will call you back,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

The post he said created fear and panic, causing loved ones to place calls to his wife just to make sure he was okay.

“My next-door neighbour had been told and he didn’t know whether to come home or not. So at dawn, he will intermittently come out and check whether there is any action going on in our compound and then go back after seeing nothing. He kept at it and couldn’t sleep till daybreak,” Sefa Kayi recounted.

He narrated his experience following reports that former President John Agyekum Kufuor had passed on.

Late last week and throughout the weekend, there were discussions in some circles around the passing of the former President and on Monday and Tuesday, the conversations continued.

But in a statement, his aide dispelled the rumours, assuring the 84-year-old was hale and healthy.
