NDC Primaries: Businessman, others paying Mahama’s GH¢420k – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/ndc-primaries-businessman-others-paying-mahamas-gh%c2%a2420k-kwakye-ofosu/ Sat, 01 Dec 2018 14:12:09 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1516121 It has emerged that ex-President John Mahama will not lose a night’s sleep in his attempt to raise the ‘bounty’ placed on filing for his party’s flagbearership.

An appointee in the ex-President’s administration has revealed that a former constituency Chairman who is a successful businessman is paying half of the GH¢400,000.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu said besides that, a group of 420 sympathisers of Mr. Mahama have tasked themselves with GH¢1,000 each and will donate same towards the ex-President’s course.

That is enough to cater for the additional GH¢20,000 the flagbearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will pay for nomination forms.

But it doesn’t end there “…earlier in the week when John Mahama went to the Asawase constituency, they said irrespective of the amount that is charged they are willing to pay for his nomination forms,” the former Deputy Information Minister revealed.

The MPs for JM have also launched a short-code to raise funds to support the campaign, Mr Ofosu said on Newsfile on Joy FM/Joy News TV Saturday.

Defending the GH¢420,000 fee, Mr. Ofosu also reiterated the words of the General Secretary of the NDC, Asiedu Nketia that the ability of the candidates to raise the amount will confirm their ability to lead fundraising for the party’s  2020 campaign.

He added that he disagrees with those arguing that the NDC has discarded its social democratic principles by charging that high amount as filing fees.

He explained that the Electoral College that will be taking part in the flagbearer elections is very huge and the party will have to cough up the money one way or the other.

The NDC is however not only relying on the monies from the aspirants to meet the estimated GH¢8million that the election will cost, but Mr.Ofosu also said. The party has other fundraising means to rely on, he noted.

AUDIO: Galamsey fight: Stop being hostile – Kwakye Ofusu tells NPP http://34.58.148.58/audio-galamsey-fight-stop-being-hostile-kwakye-ofusu-tells-npp/ Thu, 03 May 2018 17:40:30 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1095461

A former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has described as unnecessary attacks on ex-president Mahama for criticizing government’s anti-galamsey fight.

Mr Ofosu is surprised members of the New Patriotic Party who remained avowed critics of the then Mahama-government could not withstand what he says is a fair assessment of their performance in government.

Speaking on Metro TV Thursday, Mr Ofosu said key NPP functionaries no longer have the ‘stomach’ to harbour objective and constructive criticism from their opponents.

“What the President said was right and he need not be attacked.  Attacks on Mahama were very bad. NPP has been very critical of the Mahama government and so attacking him personally on a national issue like galamsey was very bad.

“There was wisdom in what he said and he spoke well and therefore [his statement] doesn’t warrant attacks. They should stop being antagonistic,” he said.

He believes President Mahama’s comment stands tall and therefore instead of attacking him, they should provide evidence to protest it.

Deputy Minister of information under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has slammed the president, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo’s government, describing it as “hopelessly incompetent”.
According to him, former President Mahama’s comment to mock President Nana Akufo-Addo was mild and harmless because he deserved a harsher comment.

“Mahama said nothing bad. In fact, his incompetence tag on Nana Addo was very mild. They are hopelessly incompetent and have done nothing for Ghanaians. Mahama was only making a point of how incompetent the Nana Addo government is”, he said.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu was speaking on ASEMPA FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday.
Immediate past President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has taken a serious swipe at the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government, describing it as a ‘super-incompetent’ government that is unable to solve the country’s challenges.

The former President who was addressing members of the NDC in Wa in the Upper West region on Saturday said even though the NPP appears incompetent in government, the umbrella family will have to work hard to win the 2020 elections.
“You do not win an election on the weakness of your opponent. You win an election because the electorates have confidence in you. And so, even though NPP is proving super incompetent, we cannot sit and relax and say because they are super incompetent we are going to win the next election. So we are going to work hard to win.”

Audio: Nana Addo's gay answer disappointing – NDC Man http://34.58.148.58/audio-nana-addos-gay-answer-disappointing-ndc-man/ Tue, 28 Nov 2017 12:53:33 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=712991 A former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo has betrayed Ghanaians following his recent comments on homosexuality during an interview with Al Jazeera.
According to him, leaders are expected to represent the people, especially when those leaders travel outside the country but could not fathom why the President made those statements which he believes he (Nana Addo) did not speak well in that instance.
“Former President Atta Mills declared publicly that Ghanaians frown upon it. Even some NPP members including Speaker of Parliament has shared their stance on the issue and as a President, we expected you to make it clear to us but rather chose to make it complicated which I think he has betrayed us” he said.
The debate over Ghana’s position on homosexuality has been revived after President Akufo-Addo failed to vehemently condemn the act, like other former Presidents of the country, had done in the past.
“This is the socio-cultural issue if you like…I don’t believe that in Ghana, so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say: ‘Change it [the law], let’s then have a new paradigm in Ghana,” he said in an answer to a question in an interview with Aljazeera on why Ghana’s laws still criminalise homosexuality,” the President said in an interview with Aljazeera.
Ghanaian culture and norms frown on homosexuality, even though the country’s laws do not criminalise the act.
But Mr. Kwakye Ofosu speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Tuesday said the President should immediately apologize to the people of Ghana for his failure to defend.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said there are overwhelming Ghanaians who are against homosexuality so for the President, who promised to hold the dignity of this country, to refuse to be emphatic on the position of the country on the matter indicates he has betrayed the nation.

Ursula has been the ‘finest’ minister in Nana Addo’s gov’t – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/ursula-finest-minister-nana-addos-govt-kwakye-ofosu/ Tue, 18 Jul 2017 12:28:17 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=306821 Ursula Owusu-Ekuful seems to be attracting many admirers within her own NPP and the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress [NDC] after her appointment as the Communications Minister.
Her style of leadership within her six month in office has been exceptional and that has won her the accolade as the ‘finest Minister” in the Nana Addo-led government.
According to one of her admirers, NDC’s Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is rightfully fit for the position she is occupying now – “She is working diligently with no malice to disregard the work of the previous government in her office.”
“On many occasions she has acknowledged the good works of the previous government. Her office is one of the most consistent offices in government in terms of performance,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
