Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said that while many perceive MPs as well-compensated, the reality on the ground is far more complex.

“MPs are really suffering, but some are scared to speak up because people will lash out. When you see leaders working at government institutions, the ones suffering the most are MPs,” he said.

He explained that the pressures extend beyond official duties, especially for those who also serve as ministers.

“As a minister at the Presidency, even before you enter, the security checks alone can be intimidating. Now imagine MPs at their constituencies, once Parliament goes on recess, everyone knows where you live. People come to your gate seeking help, and you have to assist them,” he stated.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed the wide range of demands placed on MPs, from school fees and healthcare to job assistance.

“People come with a lot of issues, some with school fees, sicknesses, or jobs and you have to support them. It’s not just about your salary,” he noted.

Addressing public criticism about benefits received by MPs, he said, “When the public hears about MPs getting car loans, they think we are enjoying free money. But it’s just a loan, and sometimes deductions start before the car even arrives. Some even complain about ex gratia, but that is a small amount, and it does not cover what we spend in our constituencies.”

He stated that the financial sacrifices often outweigh official remuneration.

“There is no money that comes from Parliament that is close to what we spend on our constituencies beyond our salaries. Even funerals, everything, we spend a lot of our own money,” Kwakye Ofosu added.

Through his remarks, the Minister urged the public to reconsider assumptions about MPs, stressing that the role demands dedication, personal resources, and resilience in the face of constant public expectations.

Peacekeepers attack: ‘No country should attack non-combatants with impunity’ – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/peacekeepers-attack-no-country-should-attack-non-combatants-with-impunity-kwakye-ofosu/ Sat, 07 Mar 2026 11:09:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2638137 Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has condemned the attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers serving in southern Lebanon, stressing that no country or group should be allowed to attack non-combatants with impunity.

Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the assault on the Ghanaian contingent deployed under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was unacceptable and must be investigated by the United Nations.

“No country is allowed to behave with such impunity and set about attacking non-combatants, people who have not shown any aggression and who are in fact there to keep the peace,” he said.

His comments follow an attack on Ghanaian soldiers serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon on March 6, which left two soldiers seriously injured.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the work of Ghanaian troops under UN peacekeeping missions is internationally recognised and has been carried out for decades to help maintain peace and stability in conflict areas.

“They are people who are there to keep the peace and they have done this for decades. It is an internationally recognised activity that they are engaging in,” he noted.

He stressed that the peacekeeping operations do not pose any threat to groups or countries in the region, and therefore do not justify such attacks.

“The activities do not pose any threat whatsoever to anybody within the region to warrant such an attack,” he said.

The government spokesperson explained that Ghana had taken the matter seriously because its troops were directly affected, prompting the country to formally lodge a protest with the United Nations.

“As the country whose troops have been at the receiving end of this attack, we need to take it very seriously. That is why we have lodged this formal complaint,” he added.

Earlier, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the government had written to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, demanding a full, immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident.

Ghana has also called on the United Nations to ensure the safety and protection of all peacekeeping personnel serving under the mission while holding those responsible for the attack accountable.

According to him, a total of 2,080 individuals were affected by the initial directive revoking the appointments.

Out of this number, 1,201 appointments were upheld after being found to have complied with due process, while 541 were revoked for failing to meet procedural requirements.

Additionally, 338 appointments involving persons with disabilities were upheld following the review.

Bawumia does not deserve credit for Gold Reserve Policy – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/bawumia-does-not-deserve-credit-for-gold-reserve-policy-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 27 Feb 2026 16:44:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2636039 The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia does not deserve credit for Ghana’s Gold for Reserves programme, insisting that the policy was not his original idea.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the Bank of Ghana had been accumulating gold reserves long before Dr Bawumia assumed office.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration inherited about eight tonnes of gold reserves, indicating that gold accumulation was already part of the central bank’s long-term strategy.

He stressed that the use of gold as a reserve asset is a common global practice and cannot be attributed to any single individual.

“The NPP accumulated about eight tonnes of gold, which shows that the central bank has long been increasing its gold reserves. It is incorrect to attribute the idea of buying gold for the central bank solely to Bawumia; other countries also maintain gold in their reserves. Therefore, the principle of using gold as a reserve cannot be claimed as his idea,” he said.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu added that while gold remains an important reserve asset, it is also volatile and must be carefully balanced with other forms of reserves.

“Reserves are not held exclusively in gold; they must be diversified. Gold is a volatile commodity, with prices that can rise and fall significantly, so proper management is essential. Currently, we have about $13.8 billion in reserves that we have not used, along with approximately 20 tonnes of gold,” he stated.

Binding IMF programme driving utility adjustments – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/binding-imf-programme-driving-utility-adjustments-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 27 Feb 2026 16:32:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2636024 Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has explained that the recent hikes in electricity and utility tariffs are linked to a binding agreement signed between the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said that between 2023 and 2024, the NPP government increased power tariffs by 52 percent as part of IMF-backed conditions.

He noted that the agreement required quarterly tariff adjustments and major reviews to account for inflation, production costs, and exchange rate pressures.

According to him, a significant tariff adjustment made around September or October last year was aimed at improving electricity access and supporting capital expenditure in power generation.

“Between 2023 and 2024, under the NPP, power prices were increased by 52%. As part of the conditions set by the IMF, the government agreed to implement quarterly tariff adjustments and a significant tariff review to recover costs related to inflation, production expenses, exchange rates, and other factors.

“Last September or October, we carried out a major tariff adjustment based on improvements in access to electricity and capital expenditures for power generation, which the NPP had consented to. The IMF collaborates with the government, and once an agreement is made, it must be honoured. This is a binding agreement established by the NPP with the IMF. Such measures are necessary; otherwise, we would continue to accumulate debt,” he stated.

SONA 2026: Minority’s protest won’t change facts – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/sona-2026-minoritys-protest-wont-change-facts-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 27 Feb 2026 15:51:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2636017 Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said that the Minority’s protest in Parliament during the 2026 State of the Nation Address does not change the economic realities outlined by President John Mahama.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he noted that the Minority’s decision to dress in black, chant slogans, and hold cocoa beans does not alter the facts presented in the President’s address.

“What matters is whether the President’s statements reflect the lived realities of Ghanaians. They can wear whatever they want; it doesn’t change the facts or what President Mahama has said. If the President states that inflation was at 23% and is now at 3.8%, the lowest in about 27 years, what someone wears doesn’t alter that reality. People are free to express themselves as they wish, but what counts is that the President’s statement reflects the actual situation on the ground,” he said.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu added that the government remains directly engaged with cocoa farmers to address their concerns, noting that recent adjustments in cocoa pricing were necessary to maintain competitiveness and avoid additional borrowing.

He stressed that government decisions are aimed at protecting the broader national interest and preventing a repeat of past fiscal challenges.

“If cocoa farmers have concerns, they can communicate directly with the government; we don’t need the Minority to speak on their behalf. The government has deployed leaders to cocoa-producing areas to engage with farmers and gain firsthand insight into their concerns. The President emphasized that decisions made by the government should be in the best interest of the Ghanaian people.

“The economic challenges we faced under the NPP were due to fiscal indiscipline. The government has reduced cocoa prices to remain competitive in the market, and we have managed to pay farmers GH₵3.6 billion. Without this approach, we would have had to borrow money to compensate the farmers. We must avoid repeating past mistakes, which is why we aim to provide fair pricing for the farmers,” he added.

When did NPP start caring so much about Ghanaians? – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/when-did-npp-start-caring-so-much-about-ghanaians-kwakye-ofosu/ Wed, 18 Feb 2026 16:20:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2632456 The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its response to President John Mahama’s recent comments on cocoa pricing.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu dismissed claims by some NPP communicators that the President erred by stating he is a cocoa farmer personally affected by producer price decisions.

He described the criticism as a deliberate attempt to sow discontent against the President, insisting there was nothing wrong with his remarks.

“It’s the NPP propagandists who believe that the President’s statement about being a farmer affected by cocoa pricing is a bad thing. It’s a complete waste of time trying to explain the President’s statement to such individuals. There is nothing wrong with what he said; it seems to be a deliberate effort to create discontent toward the President where none exists. They will always find fault with his remarks,” he said.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further questioned the NPP’s sudden concern for cocoa farmers, asking, “When did the NPP start caring so much about Ghanaians?”

He argued that during periods when global cocoa prices were high, farmers allegedly received a smaller share of the proceeds, accusing the previous administration of failing to prioritise their welfare.

He urged critics to focus on substantive cocoa sector issues rather than politicising the President’s personal experience as a farmer.

“It is true that he is a cocoa farmer, and that is a fact. The NPP wants us to waste our time on non-issues. If you want to discuss cocoa issues, you can do so without referencing the President’s comments. When did the NPP start caring so much about Ghanaians? Suddenly, they have developed an interest in cocoa farmers, but where were they when pensioners needed assistance? At a time when cocoa sold for 10,000 Ghana cedis on the world market, they were giving cocoa farmers only 30%, while taking 70% for themselves,” he stated.

280 cases of corruption are under investigation – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/280-cases-of-corruption-are-under-investigation-kwakye-ofosu/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 11:39:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2623744 The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says a total of 280 corruption and corruption-related cases are currently under investigation as part of the government’s accountability drive.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Monday, January 26, Mr Kwakye explained that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presented Operation Uncover All Roots (ORAL) to Ghanaians as a key tool to ensure accountability among public office holders.

“The NDC tabled Operation Uncover All Roots as a proposition to the people as a main tool through which we will ensure that accountability is demanded from public office holders,” he said.

According to him, since the government took office, significant steps have been taken to act on allegations of corruption. He disclosed that the Oral Preparatory Committee compiled information on 280 alleged cases and submitted a report to the Attorney General.

“They presented a report with the 280 cases, and I can tell you that the Attorney General has commissioned investigations into each of them,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated.

However, he said that the report itself could not be used to prosecute anyone without proper investigations.

“The report itself could not have formed the basis for any legal action against anybody because they were just reports. I cannot simply say that because you have said something, then I hold someone and throw him into jail. It would not make sense.”

Assessing Ghana’s fight against corruption, he said the scale of waste and abuse of public resources under the previous administration made a change in government unavoidable. “I think that it was obvious that there was simply too much waste, corruption, and theft of public resources,” he said.

“You in the media were the ones who used to bombard us with corruption scandal after corruption scandal, and it got to a point where we simply became fatigued and came to the conclusion that there was a need to change government.”

Mr Kwakye Ofosu revealed that progress has already been made on several of the cases. “I can tell you that more than 100 people have been held for questioning. Some have been arrested. Some were detained for some time. Some have been granted bail, and others, too, are in court,” he said.

He added that more than 20 cases have reached an advanced stage. “There are over 20 cases whose dockets are almost done and will be going to court. The Attorney General has already proceeded to court on a number of those cases,” he noted.

While acknowledging public impatience for quick results, the minister urged Ghanaians to respect due process.

“I understand that because of the pervasive nature of the corruption in the recent past, people want to see results, and they want it done in a rapid fashion. The government appreciates that fully. Except that ORAL itself has to be done in accordance with Ghanaian law. We cannot act extra-judicially,” he said.

He explained that once cases reach the courts, timelines are no longer controlled by the Attorney General or the government.

“When the Attorney General prepares his case and goes to court, it is a court that is in control. The court determines the timelines, how the process is conducted, and when the case ends.”

Mr Kwakye Ofosu said that fairness must remain central to the fight against corruption.

“Justice has to be done. The operative word is justice. You must use fair means to assess an individual’s guilt or innocence, and that is precisely what is happening.”

10 Metro Mass buses to hit Accra roads soon – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/10-metro-mass-buses-to-hit-accra-roads-soon-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 16 Jan 2026 12:36:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2620049 The government has announced that 10 large-capacity Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses are set to return to Accra roads within the next day or two, a move expected to ease the city’s worsening public transport situation.

Transportation in Accra has deteriorated in recent days, with commuters facing long queues and inflated fares, particularly during peak hours.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, January 16, that the Transport Ministry had ordered that the buses, which were grounded due to breakdowns, be repaired swiftly.

“He has ordered that they should be fixed quickly, so we expect that in a matter of a day or two, they should be back on the road, about 10 large-capacity buses belonging to MMT. We believe that this will ease the situation a lot,” he said.

The development comes after commuters in the Greater Accra Region, particularly in Madina, Amasaman, and Kasoa, endured long waiting times and inflated fares during morning and evening rush hours, a problem that worsened during the December 2025 festive season.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also noted that government interventions, including the temporary deployment of about 40 buses from the State Transport Company (STC), had provided partial relief, but some drivers reverted to old habits, prompting the renewed efforts to restore the MMT fleet.

The return of the 10 MMT buses is expected to reduce congestion, improve travel efficiency, and provide much-needed relief for frustrated commuters in the capital.

Meanwhile, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to visit the Ministry of Transport on Friday, January 16, to discuss persistent challenges in the public transport sector, with a particular focus on the Greater Accra Region.

Mahama’s Economic Advisory Group to serve without pay – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/mahamas-economic-advisory-group-to-serve-without-pay-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 16 Jan 2026 12:32:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2620041 Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, has said members of President John Dramani Mahama’s newly established Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) will not receive any remuneration for their services.

Speaking on Joy FM Super Morning Show on Friday, January 16, Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the advisory group comprises distinguished professionals who are not government employees.

“As we speak, I am not certain about any remuneration. They are not permanent employees,” he said. “Many of these people are already engaged in other activities. Some people are lecturing at universities and are already on the public payroll, so I am not aware of any additional remuneration for them.”

The advisory group, he added, will determine the frequency of its meetings and other modalities independently.

“What is certain is that they will keep a close eye on the economy and ensure that the policies being implemented benefit the generality of our people,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu said.

The PAGE includes prominent Ghanaian figures such as economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor, industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, private sector leader Ishmael Yamson, and former Deputy Minister for Finance and Trade Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa.

Other members are former World Bank infrastructure specialist and agribusiness investor Mr Ato Brown; former Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Henry A. Kofi Wampah; economist and private sector leader Togbe Afede XIV; Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Stock Exchange Ms Abena Amoah; University of Ghana professor Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour; and University of Ghana professor Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor.

“They are not in here to make a quick buck,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu stressed. “They have been called upon to put their expertise at the disposal of the nation because we require a firm hand in the way our economy is managed.”

The Presidency said the group will provide strategic counsel on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation and debt sustainability, as well as coherence between fiscal and monetary policy.

Its mandate also covers advice on structural transformation, industrial development, competitiveness and export-led growth, in addition to guidance on sectoral development, private sector expansion, investment mobilisation and sustainable job creation.

Women Development Bank to be rolled out in 2026 – Kwakye Ofosu announces http://34.58.148.58/women-development-bank-to-be-rolled-out-in-2026-kwakye-ofosu-announces/ Wed, 14 Jan 2026 13:47:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2619296 The Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that preparations for the establishment of the Women Development Bank are at an advanced stage, with the bank expected to be rolled out in 2026.

The proposed bank aims to improve women’s access to affordable financing across various sectors, providing loans at lower interest rates to support women-owned businesses and economic activities.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the initiative stems from challenges identified during the government’s campaign regarding women’s limited access to capital.

“During our campaign, we identified that women’s access to capital was a major challenge, and resolving this will unlock additional economic growth and improve the welfare of Ghanaian women,” he stated.

He disclosed that the 2025 Budget made a provision of GH¢51 million to support the preparatory work and institutional framework for the bank.

“In the 2025 budget, GH¢51 million was allocated to support the structures that will lead to the establishment of the bank. In the 2026 budget, GH¢401 million has also been allocated,” he added.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu assured that the process is being spearheaded under the auspices of the Vice President and has progressed significantly.

“I can assure you that under the auspices of the Vice President, work on the Women Development Bank is far advanced, and in all likelihood, it will be rolled out this year,” he said.

Attack on journalist unacceptable – Kwakye Ofosu on Kasoa Market fire http://34.58.148.58/attack-on-journalist-unacceptable-kwakye-ofosu-on-kasoa-market-fire/ Mon, 05 Jan 2026 13:57:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616018 Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has condemned the alleged assault on a journalist by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) during coverage of the Kasoa New Market fire outbreak, describing the incident as unacceptable.

In a strong reaction, Kwakye Ofosu said firm action would be taken against any fire service personnel found culpable, stressing that attacks on journalists carrying out their lawful duties would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The incident involved Samuel Addo of Class Media Group, who was allegedly assaulted while covering the devastating fire at the Kasoa New Market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

The attack reportedly occurred at the height of firefighting operations, as tensions flared between fire officers, traders, and some local youth at the scene.

Eyewitnesses said the situation escalated after some residents and traders attempted to assist firefighters in extinguishing the blaze, while others filmed the operation. In the ensuing confusion, three people, including the journalist, reportedly sustained injuries.

Samuel Addo further alleged that GH¢20,000 went missing during the assault.

The alleged attack has sparked public outrage, with media advocacy groups and journalists calling for a thorough investigation and accountability. Authorities are expected to commence investigations to establish the facts and ensure appropriate disciplinary action where necessary.

Forensic Audit to reveal full accountability on National Cathedral project – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/forensic-audit-to-reveal-full-accountability-on-national-cathedral-project-kwakye-ofosu/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 14:02:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609020 Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described the ongoing forensic audit of the National Cathedral project as essential for ensuring full accountability and tracing the use of public funds.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, he noted that earlier audits had already raised serious concerns about the project’s management.

“A few months ago, I held a press conference when the national secretariat itself commissioned an audit, which revealed very worrying patterns of procurement breaches and misapplication of public funds. That called for further investigations, so the Auditor-General, in collaboration with the Attorney-General, has commissioned a forensic audit which is currently underway. Once it is completed, we will know exactly what has been done and where,” he said.

Kwakye Ofosu also reiterated his view that prioritizing the National Cathedral during a period of economic difficulty was a misguided decision. He argued that Ghanaians were facing significant financial strain when the project was championed by the previous administration.

“I still maintain to this day that it was an absolute misplaced priority. At the height of economic difficulty, when Ghanaians were struggling and the government had implemented excruciating haircuts for about 1.3 million bondholders, the president of the time told everybody that his biggest priority was building a cathedral,” he added.

He emphasized that the forensic audit will ultimately provide clarity on expenditures and ensure accountability for taxpayer funds spent on the project.

We are spending, but… – Kwakye Ofosu tells critics http://34.58.148.58/we-are-spending-but-kwakye-ofosu-tells-critics/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 10:55:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2608879 Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s fiscal management, insisting that its spending remains disciplined despite concerns over revenue gaps.

His comments come amid growing public debate over government expenditure, with opposition voices—particularly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—accusing the administration of underspending.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Kwakye Ofosu compared the current government’s approach with that of the previous NPP administration. He noted that although both governments experienced revenue shortfalls, the NDC has been more responsible by adjusting spending to match available resources.

“It is not true that we don’t spend. We are spending, but we are being fiscally prudent,” he said. “When you read the budget, the Finance Minister indicated that there was some shortfall in revenue, but he had corresponding cuts in expenditure. He comes within the limits that he had set for himself. Under the NPP, when there was a drop in revenue, they ballooned expenditure.”

Mahama third-term talk ‘absurd fantasy’ – Kwakye Ofosu dismisses rumours http://34.58.148.58/mahama-third-term-talk-absurd-fantasy-kwakye-ofosu-dismisses-rumours/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 07:23:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2608822 Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has rejected claims that President John Mahama plans to seek a third term in office, calling the allegations unfounded.

The comments come after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suggested that President Mahama has a hidden agenda to extend his tenure beyond the constitutional two-term limit, citing social media posts by some National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters urging him to stay in office.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face programme on Tuesday, December 9, Kwakye Ofosu said, “The NPP have whipped itself into needless frenzy. President Mahama has stated emphatically that he will respect the Ghanaian Constitution.

“Because he’s a consummate democrat, there’s no third term anywhere for him or any other person as far as the constitution is concerned. Anyone can say what they want.

“The fact that some people have gone on Facebook to say he should go for a third term doesn’t mean that will happen. The man himself has said he’s not interested.”

He urged the opposition to stop what he described as “needless speculation,” adding, “So NPP should stop wasting their time and everybody’s time, and purporting to be angry.

“It’s an absurd fantasy they’re getting themselves into. The President has not expressed any intent. Any talk about it is a complete waste of everybody’s time.”

President Mahama had previously reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s two-term presidential limit on August 27, noting that his absence from the 2028 ballot would help enforce fiscal discipline and curb election-year overspending that has contributed to cyclical economic crises.

During a bilateral meeting with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Mahama criticised the tendency of incumbent governments to bypass fiscal safeguards for electoral advantage.

Kwakye Ofosu refutes claims Presidency orchestrated petitions against Special Prosecutor, EC Boss http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-refutes-claims-presidency-orchestrated-petitions-against-special-prosecutor-ec-boss/ Tue, 02 Dec 2025 09:04:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2606114 Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has strongly denied claims that the presidency was involved in orchestrating petitions demanding the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa.

The development follows the submission of ten separate petitions by private citizens to the Office of the President. The petitions call for the dismissal of the Special Prosecutor, the EC Chair, and her deputies—Dr. Eric Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey—over allegations including incompetence, abuse of office, and concerns about electoral processes.

Speculation had suggested that the petitions were coordinated from within the presidency. However, Kwakye Ofosu dismissed these claims as baseless.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, he challenged critics to provide evidence supporting their allegations.

“The critics would have to show evidence of the cooking and the eating [fabrication], wouldn’t they?” he said.

Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that the government has no connection to the petitioners, emphasising that the process is independent and constitutionally mandated. He added that any committee established to examine the petitions will operate without executive interference.

“There’s no basis for manipulation, there’s no room for manoeuvring or any form of manipulation from the executive whatsoever. The committee will be formed by the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and not the President [John Dramani Mahama],” he noted.

He further confirmed that all ten petitions have been forwarded to the Chief Justice, who will determine the appropriate next steps in accordance with constitutional procedure.

Presidency yet to receive Jean Mensa petition – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/presidency-yet-to-receive-jean-mensa-petition-kwakye-ofosu/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 07:17:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2603965 Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has stated that the presidency has not yet received the petition from Electoral Commission (EC) staffer Joseph Blankson Adumadzie seeking the removal of Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies.

The Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP explained that petitions addressed to the President are normally routed through the Secretary to the President, who has not sighted this petition.

“Normally, it will go to the Secretary to the President if it is addressed to the President. I’ve engaged him. He has not sighted it yet, but there is a long-standing process that this goes through. Any information on that will be conveyed to the public in due course,” he said.

Asked if there are other petitions of a similar nature, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said he is not aware of any. He added that if another petition is filed and reaches the Secretary’s office, the public would be informed, just as they were with the petition concerning the Chief Justice.

He emphasized that the government is committed to keeping citizens updated while respecting constitutional processes, noting that this marks a deliberate shift toward openness because public officials hold office in trust for citizens.

“I only assumed my role ten months ago, and no one owns a public office. Those who occupy such positions use the mandate and resources of the people and must account for their actions,” he said.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu added that if a petition is filed against any public office holder, it is only fair for the government to inform the public about its receipt, the procedures involved, and the steps being taken. This approach, he said, ensures that major decisions do not appear to come out of nowhere.

He stressed that transparency and accountability guide this practice, but the government operates strictly within the law.

2024 was the worst economic crisis in Ghana’s history – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/2024-was-the-worst-economic-crisis-in-ghanas-history-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 21 Nov 2025 12:01:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602551 Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has described the economic downturn experienced in 2024 as “the worst crisis in Ghana’s history,” arguing that its severity was unprecedented and avoidable.

Speaking on Metro TV on Friday, November 20, he attributed the crisis to mismanagement rather than global factors, pointing directly to the leadership of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who served as head of the Economic Management Team.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu asserted that the hardships citizens endured in 2024 were a direct reflection of policy failures.

According to him, inflation, instability in the currency, and difficulties in public finances all contributed to a level of strain that had never been witnessed in the country’s post-independence history.

He emphasised that these economic indicators showed a stark contrast between the government’s rhetoric and the lived reality of Ghanaians.

He stated that despite assurances from the former Vice President and the NPP government, the administration failed to implement measures that could have cushioned the population.

Instead, he argued, the burden of austerity and high living costs pushed many households into severe distress.

“The numbers and the lived experiences all point to a crisis of historic proportions,” he said.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also rejected claims that global conditions were primarily responsible for the crisis, saying many countries navigated similar shocks without experiencing the level of hardship that Ghana faced.

He insisted that Ghana’s difficulties were amplified by poor decision-making and an overreliance on short-term policies that could not sustain the economy.

He concluded that the economic crisis of 2024 would remain a central point of political debate as the country approaches the next general election cycle.

In his words, Ghanaians will continue to demand accountability, particularly from Dr Bawumia as he seeks reelection to lead the NPP into the 2028 presidential race.

Bawumia’s record is abysmal; he can’t take it to the market – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/bawumias-record-is-abysmal-he-cant-take-it-to-the-market-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 21 Nov 2025 12:00:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602547 The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has launched a sharp critique of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, arguing that the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 presidential candidate has “no credible record” to present to Ghanaians.

Speaking on Metro TV on Friday, November 20, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said Dr. Bawumia’s performance in office offers no compelling basis for his renewed ambition to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections. He contended that the former Vice President oversaw some of the country’s most disappointing economic outcomes in recent years, leaving many citizens disillusioned.

He argued that Dr. Bawumia’s shifting campaign messages reflect an inability to defend the economic realities under the government he helped lead, noting that many of his earlier promises never translated into tangible results.

According to him, the economic challenges experienced during the former Vice President’s tenure severely undermine any effort to present him as a viable flagbearer for the future.

“If your record does not resonate with the people, you cannot take it to the political market,” he stressed, adding that the 2024 defeat clearly showed public dissatisfaction with Dr. Bawumia’s stewardship.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further accused Dr. Bawumia of deflecting blame instead of taking responsibility for the difficulties that arose while he chaired the government’s economic management team.

He concluded that the NPP must confront the realities of its governance shortcomings rather than attempting to revive Dr. Bawumia’s political prospects, insisting that marketing him for 2028 would be “a difficult, if not impossible, task.”

It’s under Mahama’s gov’t that the single largest reduction in transport fares of 15% occurred – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/its-under-mahamas-govt-that-the-single-largest-reduction-in-transport-fares-of-15-occurred-kwakye-ofosu/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 09:29:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601677 Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has credited the Mahama administration with achieving the biggest single reduction in transport fares in Ghana’s recent history.

Speaking during the 2026 Budget debate in Parliament, he said the records clearly show that no government has matched the scale of the fare cut implemented under former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the policy was the result of consistent engagement between the government and transport operators.

He noted that transport unions themselves can attest to the achievement.

“The transport companies will tell you since government began to engage them about a decade ago in the fixing of transport prices twice a year, it is under this government that the single biggest reduction in transport fares of 15% occurred,” he stated.

He argued that the fare reduction was a reflection of prudent economic management at the time, pointing out that key indicators allowed the government to cushion commuters and promote affordability.

According to him, the 15 percent cut was not accidental but a deliberate effort to ease the cost of living and maintain stability in the transport sector.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu contrasted this with what he described as inconsistent fare adjustments in subsequent administrations, which he said placed additional pressure on the public.

He suggested that the achievement under the Mahama government remains unmatched and should be recognised as part of its economic legacy.

He urged the Minority to acknowledge objective historical records in their contributions to the budget debate, emphasising that discussions must be grounded in fact.

“The data is clear and cannot be rewritten,” he said, insisting that the 15 percent reduction stands as evidence of strong social and economic policy decisions during the Mahama era.

NPP’s “noise” hindering accountability- Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/npps-noise-hindering-accountability-kwakye-ofosu/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 07:59:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596834 The Minister for Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately generating “noise” to hinder the government’s efforts to hold corrupt actors accountable.

He made the observation during an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, November 5, following accusations by the NPP that the John Mahama administration is conducting a systematic campaign of harassment and intimidation against its members through an alleged misuse of state institutions.

However, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu defended the role of the Attorney General [Dr. Dominic Ayine], noting that the office functions strictly within the framework of the law.

“The Attorney General, whose name they often mention to create the impression that he has done something extraordinary, has merely stated that, based on investigations, there is evidence suggesting that an individual may have violated the law,” he said.

“On that basis, the person is taken to court. This is standard legal procedure and does not amount to a conviction.”

He emphasised that prosecutions only occur through due process in the courts, where the accused are given the full opportunity to mount a defence.

“It is for this reason that, after the Attorney General’s announcement, nobody goes to prison immediately,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained.

The Communications Minister described the opposition’s accusations as politically motivated.

“The noises that the NPP are making are designed solely to stop the government from doing the things that meet the expectations of the people of Ghana,” he stated.

“This includes holding to account those who have mismanaged the nation’s finances, caused losses, or engaged in acts that amount to corruption.”

Mr Kwakye Ofosu insisted that the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, further arguing that investigations and prosecutions are standard mechanisms for upholding good governance rather than acts of political persecution.

The Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP said the government aims to enable as many supporters as possible to attend the tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Kwakye Ofosu’s comments follow Ghana’s qualification for the World Cup and recent meetings between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials from the US Embassy and the Canadian High Commission. The discussions, held earlier in October, involved the Ministry of Sports, the Ghana Football Association, and senior Foreign Affairs officials to plan coordinated visa arrangements.

“As a government, we have a duty to always look out for the interests of the people of Ghana. The Foreign Ministry has acted proactively by engaging the relevant authorities in the host countries to ensure the visa process for Ghanaians is smooth,” he told Joy Sports.

He added that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s engagement with the embassies had been productive and yielded encouraging feedback.

“My discussions with the Foreign Minister indicate that it went well, and he is pleased with the progress made,” Kwakye Ofosu said.

Ablakwa also confirmed on social media that a similar meeting would be held with Mexican officials to finalise Ghana’s comprehensive visa facilitation plan for fans.

Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV, Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated that President John Dramani Mahama remains resolute in ensuring the recovery of state funds allegedly misappropriated by officials of the previous administration.

“ORAL has come to stay, and the President is committed to it and no one will stop it. The Attorney-General has stated that no one will hinder its work,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu declared.

He explained that the initiative is a crucial part of the government’s broader efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public resources.

The Minister further noted that the Mahama administration is determined to safeguard the national purse by retrieving funds and assets wrongfully taken from the state.

According to him, such measures are essential to restoring public confidence in governance and ensuring that those entrusted with public office are held accountable for their stewardship.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that ORAL’s mission is not politically motivated but purely aimed at protecting the national interest.

He assured Ghanaians that the operation would be carried out within the confines of the law, guided by fairness and due process, to ensure that justice is served and public funds are rightfully recovered.

Over the weekend, he distributed bunk beds and desks to three Senior High Schools, namely Moree Senior Technical High School, Aburaman Senior High School and Abakrampa Senior High School.

The intervention is expected to alleviate pressure on school facilities while providing a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

In addition to the furniture, the MP also handed over trunks, mattresses and “chop boxes” to students beginning their Senior High School journey this year.

These items form part of the essential supplies required by students when starting boarding school in Ghana.

The initiative underscores his commitment to prioritising education and ensuring that both schools and learners in the constituency are adequately supported.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that it would help reduce the burden on families and enhance student welfare.

Kwakye Ofosu accuses NPP of hypocrisy over utility tariff hikes http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-accuses-npp-of-hypocrisy-over-utility-tariff-hikes/ Wed, 17 Sep 2025 10:28:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2579457 Minister for Government Communications and Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of double standards in its criticism of proposed utility tariff hikes.

His comments follow concerns raised by the NPP over potential tariff increases by the Volta River Authority (VRA), Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and Ghana Water Limited (GWL), among others.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Mr. Ofosu argued that the tariff adjustment mechanism was introduced by the previous NPP administration as part of its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“As part of the IMF arrangements that the NPP entered into, they agreed with the IMF as a conditionality for accessing about $300 million. That review was completed before we came to power, around December 2024. They agreed to quarterly tariff adjustments and a mid-year review in September. So, when the NPP laments the increases, they are being dubious and hypocritical. They’re not telling the truth—they agreed to it, and we are bound by it,” he said.

The Minister stressed that not all proposals from utility companies are approved, explaining that government typically reduces the figures significantly.

“It’s not every proposal that is accepted. Almost every time, their proposals are substantially reduced,” he noted, adding that he was confident the current proposals would not be fully reflected in the final tariff adjustments.

“I’m confident that those figures in the proposals will not reflect in the tariffs,” he assured.

Claims galamsey has worsened under Mahama must be backed by evidence – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/claims-galamsey-has-worsened-under-mahama-must-be-backed-by-evidence-kwakye-ofosu/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 12:50:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2578678 Government Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has pushed back against claims by critics that illegal mining, or galamsey, has worsened since President John Dramani Mahama assumed office.

The Abura Asebu-Kwamankese lawmaker insisted that such assertions must be supported by verifiable data rather than speculation.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said that the government remains committed to tackling the menace, stressing that accusations without empirical proof only distort the national conversation.

“Those who say galamsey has worsened under President Mahama must prove it with empirical evidence. We cannot allow perceptions or political point-scoring to overshadow facts,” he emphasised.

He reiterated that the government has intensified efforts to address illegal mining through arrests, environmental interventions, and the planned creation of special courts to ensure swift prosecution of offenders.

Gov’t recognises genuine concerns on galamsey

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu acknowledged the widespread concerns raised by citizens and stakeholders over the destructive impact of illegal mining under the NDC current administration.

He assured the public that the government remains committed to addressing the menace.

According to him, the administration does not dismiss the voices of ordinary Ghanaians who are directly affected by the devastation of water bodies, farmlands, and ecosystems.

“Government fully appreciates the genuine concerns people have expressed on galamsey, and these are not matters we take lightly,” he said.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stressed that while the government has rolled out several interventions, tackling galamsey requires collective responsibility.

“We cannot pretend it is an easy fight, but what we can assure Ghanaians is that the government has not lost sight of its duty to protect lives, livelihoods and the environment,” he noted.

He called on the public to support ongoing interventions and resist political interference in efforts to clamp down on the illegal activity.

“We must all rally behind the measures being implemented. The survival of our water bodies and farmlands cannot be compromised,” the Communications Minister added.

All are equal before the law – Kwakye Ofosu challenges judge’s justification in Abronye remand case http://34.58.148.58/all-are-equal-before-the-law-kwakye-ofosu-challenges-judges-justification-in-abronye-remand-case/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 11:01:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2578610 Government Communications Minister and presidential spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has raised concerns over comments made by an Accra Circuit Court judge in the case involving Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, September 15, Mr Kwakye Ofosu clarified that he was not opposing the decision to remand Abronye into police custody, but rather questioning the judge’s reasoning, which, in his view, implied that not everyone is equal before the law.

“Everybody, including murderers and armed robbers, through Martin Kpebu’s interventions at the Supreme Court, has been declared that everybody deserves bail. So after you hold the person for one or two days and you take him to court, there should be bail,” he argued.

He acknowledged that judges may consider legitimate factors such as flight risk, pointing to reports that Abronye had once sought asylum abroad.

“Of course, if he had said that Abronye is a flight risk because he has requested asylum elsewhere, that is an acceptable rationale. Even then, it has to be done in a way that doesn’t seem to abuse,” he explained.

The minister, however, insisted that no justification should erode the constitutional guarantee of equality before the law.

“Everybody is equal before the law. From the President to the cleaner, we are all equal before the law. So I think that one is problematic,” he stressed.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu’s comments come amid public debate over the court’s handling of the case, particularly the judge’s remarks, which some observers say suggested unequal treatment under the law.

Mahama’s presidential encounter attendance was impressive – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/mahamas-presidential-encounter-attendance-was-impressive-kwakye-ofosu/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 09:43:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2578519 Government Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described the turnout at President John Dramani Mahama’s recent presidential media encounter as “impressive and unprecedented.”

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, September 15, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the event reflected the strong public and media interest in the President’s governance agenda.

“The attendance was remarkable,” he stated. “We had an overwhelming presence of journalists, editors, and senior media professionals, which is a clear demonstration of how much value the media attaches to the President’s accountability to the people.”

He stressed that the event was not only about numbers but also about the quality of engagement.

“The range of questions posed and the depth of issues discussed showed that the media took the encounter very seriously. It was an excellent platform for the President to clarify policies and respond directly to the concerns of Ghanaians,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu noted.

According to the Communications Minister, President Mahama’s commitment to openness and transparency was once again affirmed through the session.

“The President has always made it clear that he welcomes scrutiny and accountability. That is the hallmark of true democracy, and I believe the attendance at this event speaks volumes about the trust the public and the media have in this process,” he added.

Gov’t has no plans to turn National Cathedral into Cultural Centre – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/govt-has-no-plans-to-turn-national-cathedral-into-cultural-centre-kwakye-ofosu/ Tue, 22 Jul 2025 09:16:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2558296 The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed reports suggesting that the stalled National Cathedral project will be repurposed into a National Cultural Convention Centre.

Speaking on Citi FM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described such claims as “inaccurate and misleading.”

“Contrary to claims that emerged last week, the government has not decided to turn the site into a cultural convention centre; nothing of the sort has happened,” he clarified.

His response comes amid speculation that the government was rebranding the controversial project as part of its 24-hour economy initiative for the culture, creative arts, and tourism sectors, known as ‘SHOW24’.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained that a continental organisation currently renting space in Accra had submitted an unsolicited proposal to establish its headquarters on the site. The proposal included plans to build a cultural and convention centre for Ghana.

However, he stressed that the government has neither accepted nor deliberated on the proposal.

“It is merely an unsolicited proposal. The government has not accepted it or even considered it,” he said.

He also reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s position on the National Cathedral, affirming that no public funds would be used to complete the project.

“I can state with authority that as long as President Mahama remains president, not even a pesewa of taxpayers’ money will be spent on this National Cathedral project,” Kwakye Ofosu emphasised.

He noted that the future of the site would only be determined after a full forensic audit.

“What happens to the site will be decided once we have all the facts. But I can assure Ghanaians no public funds will go into the cathedral,” he said.

Suspended CJ’s public address most regrettable – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/suspended-cjs-public-address-most-regrettable-kwakye-ofosu/ Wed, 25 Jun 2025 20:09:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2548362 Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has described as “most regrettable” the public remarks made by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo.

In her address, the Chief Justice raised concerns over the constitutional and procedural legitimacy of the ongoing process to remove her from office.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, June 25, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reaffirmed President John Mahama’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and the integrity of Ghana’s constitutional framework, regardless of the office or stature of the individual involved.

“What has happened today is most regrettable, and as government—or as the President—President Mahama is committed to upholding the rule of law,” he stated.

His comments follow an address by the suspended Chief Justice, in which she alleged that the disciplinary proceedings initiated against her were marred by irregularities, breaches of due process, and political manoeuvring aimed at orchestrating her removal.

However, the Government Communications Minister defended the process so far, noting that all actions taken have been firmly rooted in the constitutional provisions governing such matters.

“We cannot have the situation where, depending on who is involved, the Constitution is set aside,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.

He emphasised that the constitutional procedures governing the conduct and discipline of judicial officers are being fully adhered to in the ongoing matter involving the suspended Chief Justice.

“All Ghanaians are equal before the law. In the same way that our courts have dealt with individuals in accordance with the law, if members of the judiciary themselves are alleged to be engaged in some wrongdoing, the processes laid down—or spelt out—by the Constitution ought to be respected. And that is exactly what has happened,” he reiterated.

Chief Justice Torkornoo was suspended from office earlier this year following the submission of multiple petitions alleging misconduct and abuse of judicial authority.

President Mahama, in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, referred the petitions to the Council of State. A five-member committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Pwamang, was subsequently established to investigate the claims.

In her public address—the first since her suspension—Justice Torkornoo accused the committee of procedural injustice, including denial of access to legal representation, failure to specify charges, and a lack of transparency in the handling of the proceedings.

She also questioned the impartiality of the committee, citing a conflict of interest involving Justice Pwamang, who had previously sat on a panel with her in a case referenced in one of the petitions.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu insisted that it was critical for the rule of law to prevail. He emphasised that the Constitution does not provide for selective application based on rank, reputation, or popularity.

“The public cannot lift the suspension. The public cannot terminate the process. Only the President can act on the findings of the investigative committee in accordance with the Constitution,” he stated.

The Minister urged all parties to exercise restraint and allow the constitutional mechanisms to proceed without interference or politicisation.

Kwakye Ofosu reveals money saved from paid TV ban at Jubilee House http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-reveals-money-saved-from-paid-tv-ban-at-jubilee-house/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 10:24:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546885 The administration of President John Dramani Mahama has implemented a drastic cost-cutting measure at the Jubilee House, the seat of government, by cancelling all paid television subscriptions in a bid to demonstrate fiscal prudence.

This decisive move has resulted in significant monthly savings of approximately GH₵120,000—funds the government plans to redirect toward more pressing national development needs.

The revelation was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, during an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained that the decision forms part of a broader strategy by the Mahama-led government to curb what it identifies as wasteful public expenditure, particularly within the presidency.

The discovery of the substantial spending emerged during a comprehensive review of the operational costs inherited upon assuming office.

“When we came to the Jubilee House, there were multiple subscriptions in addition to the local channels that we watched,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu disclosed. “When we took stock and did the calculations, we realised we were spending about GH₵120,000 monthly just on satellite subscriptions. President Mahama has cancelled all of that.”

This monthly saving translates into an impressive GH₵1.44 million annually—a substantial sum in the context of Ghana’s national budget and ongoing fiscal challenges.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu passionately questioned the rationale behind such lavish spending on entertainment when critical community needs remain unmet.

He drew a stark contrast to illustrate the administration’s new priorities.

“There are communities where a broken water pump costing GH₵1,000 is all that stands between them and access to clean water. Yet, here we were spending GH₵120,000 just to watch TV,” he stated, noting that the monthly savings could repair 120 such water pumps—or 1,440 annually—providing essential services to hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians.

The administration is actively promoting this cancellation as a tangible example of its commitment to fiscal discipline.

The move sends a clear message that resources, particularly at the highest levels of government, will be rigorously scrutinised and redirected to more impactful and essential areas of national development.

It also aims to build public trust by demonstrating that every cedi counts in the quest for a more efficient and responsive government.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu made the comments on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 7 June.

“I have heard Bawumia waxing lyrical about this tax. If his government had imposed just the E-levy, Ghanaians wouldn’t have risen against it. They imposed over 30 taxes on Ghanaians during the eight years they governed,” he remarked, dismissing Dr. Bawumia’s attacks as hypocritical and politically motivated.

Dr. Bawumia, during his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Central Region, accused the NDC government of betrayal, saying it had scrapped the unpopular E-levy only to introduce what he described as a “Dumsor Levy.”

He claimed the move was proof that the NDC had deceived Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign and warned citizens to brace for more taxes.

The new levy, introduced through the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, imposes a GH¢1 per litre surcharge on petroleum products.

It aims to raise revenue to tackle the US$3.1 billion energy sector debt and secure US$1.2 billion worth of fuel for thermal power generation.

The Minority has strongly criticised the bill, calling it a “predatory tax” that was passed hastily and without adequate transparency or consultation.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Ofosu explained that the cars were gifts from two companies—one a Chinese company and the other a Ghanaian company operating in Ghana—aimed at promoting local industries.

He stated that the vehicles were electric cars, aligning with the government’s push for a green energy transition.

“These cars are not just gifts; they are part of an initiative to promote local industries. When prominent people like President Mahama use these products, it helps give them exposure and mileage,” he said.

Mr. Ofosu further explained that businesses often approach prominent figures like President Mahama to help promote their products.

He noted that while there is no law prohibiting the acceptance of gifts, there are legal requirements if the value of such gifts exceeds GH₵20,000.

“There is no law that prohibits the acceptance of gifts, but if the value goes beyond GH₵20,000, you must make it public and hand it over to the state. This is exactly what President Mahama did,” Kwakye Ofosu clarified.

KWAKYE OFOSU ON MAHAMA CAR

He also addressed concerns over potential bias or influence, stating, “People should not think that because a gift has been received, it gives an unfair advantage or will influence decisions. This is not the case.”

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained that the cars will be used to help promote green energy and local industries.

“If President Mahama drives these electric cars, it will encourage others to follow suit and make the transition to green energy,” he said.

Additionally, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu pointed out that President Mahama had not yet used the cars, but the decision to make the gift public was in line with transparency and legal requirements.

“This gesture is a reminder for public officers to comply with the rules and regulations governing gifts,” he said.

His remarks come after President Mahama publicly declared receiving the two vehicles as gifts, which he later handed over to the state.

This move followed the launch of a new Code of Conduct for appointees, highlighting the importance of transparency in public office.

Mahama should remove Kwakye Ofosu from his position as the President’s spokesperson – Janet Nabla http://34.58.148.58/mahama-should-remove-kwakye-ofosu-from-his-position-as-the-presidents-spokesperson-janet-nabla/ Mon, 07 Apr 2025 15:29:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2522609 Janet Asana Nabla, Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), has urged former President John Mahama to remove Felix Kwakye Ofosu from his position as spokesperson.

This follows concerns over recent comments made by Kwakye Ofosu regarding alleged drug trafficking and money laundering involving two aircraft that transited through Ghana.

The call came after a heated exchange on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) between Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications, and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee. Kwakye Ofosu, in his response to criticism, referred to Rev. Fordjour as a “clown,” adding to the controversy surrounding the alleged drug-related flights.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Janet Nabla criticized the government’s communication on the matter, particularly a letter from the Flagstaff House which dismissed the allegations without offering clarity.

She expressed concerns over Mr. Kwakye Ofosu’s explanation, claiming it raised more questions than answers.

“If someone tries so hard to convince people, it creates more doubt. Every single flight that passes through Ghana’s borders must go through all security checks. How were two flights checked and the third wasn’t?” she asked.

Ms. Nabla also highlighted the dangers of drug trafficking to the nation’s youth, warning against allowing Ghana to become a transit point for illegal substances. She urged President Mahama to act decisively.

“Felix Kwakye Ofosu isn’t just communicating for Mahama, but for all of Ghana. We don’t need people who don’t tell the truth as communicators,” she concluded.

Kwakye Ofosu and Ntim Fordjour clash on social media over flight claims after Newsfile http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-and-ntim-fordjour-clash-on-social-media-over-flight-claims-after-newsfile/ Sat, 05 Apr 2025 15:11:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2522159 A fiery exchange ensued between the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

This follows an alleged drug trafficking and money laundering involving two aircraft that passed through Ghana.

The public spat saw both figures accuse each other of diverting attention from serious national issues and resorting to personal insults in the process.

The clash began when Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the first to strike, called Mr Fordjour a “clown” in response to criticisms of the government’s handling of high-profile alleged drug busts, money laundering activities, and suspicious flights.

Rev Fordjour had just stormed away from JoyNews’ Newsfile on the same matter where he had debated NDC Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, in another heated argument.

On the programme, Mr Gyamfi had called for the arrest of Rev. Fordjour, insisting he must substantiate his claims or face legal consequences.

Mr Gyamfi argued that in other jurisdictions, such serious allegations against a sitting government would not go unpunished if found to be false.

“In other jurisdictions, he would have been blacklisted.

He stressed that if the MP refuses to honour a National Security invitation, he should be arrested and compelled to provide evidence to support his claims.

“If he doesn’t honour the invitation [by National Security] to him and he thinks that he can hide behind his parliamentary privileges, he lie bad. Because he will be arrested. Some of us will insist that he is arrested and you must substantiate that.”

But it appears the Assin South MP had more on his plate despite storming off the show during a brief break after suggesting that he had not been treated fairly.

On X, Mr Ofosu accused Rev Fordjour of being involved in spreading misinformation and misleading the public, calling the parliamentarian’s comments unsubstantiated and irresponsible.

“What a clown!” Mr Ofosu tweeted. “You have no proof, no basis, and cannot show same in even a thousand years. Even when clear facts are presented to you, you still remain pigheaded in your lies. That is being a clown, my friend!” he wrote.

However, Mr Fordjour quickly hit back, escalating the argument with scathing remarks about the Minister’s handling of ongoing investigations into Ghana’s involvement in cocaine trafficking and financial crimes.

He accused Mr Ofosu of being emotionally invested in shielding alleged drug cartels and money launderers from prosecution, thus undermining legitimate oversight efforts.

“When cocaine and money laundering activities are exposed and questioned, you expose your emotional connections to these transnational crimes, shield cocaine cartels and money launderers from prosecution, and resort to insults!” Rev Fordjour retorted.

He also added “Instead of providing answers to the high-profile cocaine busts, money laundering and suspicious flights, you’re here using 78.8 million of Ghanaian taxpayers’ money to peddle insults! Where is the cocaine and laundered money, Felix, my good friend?”

Mr Ofosu also pointed out the Minister’s lack of response to the real issues, instead accusing him of deflecting attention from the serious matters at hand by engaging in baseless personal attacks.

“You are wasting everyone’s time by debasing Parliamentary oversight to peddle infantile lies!” Mr Ofosu continued.

“You have no proof, no basis, and cannot show the truth in even a thousand years.”

Meanwhile, security analyst, Dr. Kwesi Aning, is worried over how sensitive security-related information is being handled by some Members of Parliament.

Dr. Aning, speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, noted that while security oversight is important, such issues must be approached with care and professionalism, especially by individuals with security clearance.

“What I mean for Kofi, and I can do that as a civil society activist and as scholars, but as a Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Interior with oversight responsibilities for a lot of our security institutions, and hopefully having security clearance… Such information must be handled differently,” Dr. Aning said.

He further criticised what he described as the politicisation of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament.

“And I think we need to discuss, elevate the conversation, as to how people in sensitive positions, who have clearance and may, because of that clearance, have access to information that is useful to securing our space to handle that information,” he added on Saturday, April 5.

Suspicious flights: I will resign from gov’t if… – Kwakye Ofosu [Video] http://34.58.148.58/suspicious-flights-i-will-resign-from-govt-if-kwakye-ofosu-video/ Fri, 04 Apr 2025 16:40:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2521965 Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims by Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, regarding alleged drug trafficking and money laundering involving two aircraft.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Ofosu accused the Ranking Member of the Interior and Defence Committee of creating unnecessary public disaffection, stating that Fordjour has no evidence to support his claims.

“There is nothing in there. If he had evidence, he wouldn’t have waited for someone to call him; he would have made the matter public, even holding a press conference,” Mr. Ofosu said. “I am daring him. If Ntim Fordjour can present evidence of a cocaine haul, I will resign from government that very day. He has nothing,” he vowed.

Rev. Fordjour recently ignited public debate by alleging that two flights—AirMed flight NH23AM and Cavok Air private jet Antonov AN 12 B—landed in Ghana between March 20 and March 25, 2025, carrying suspected cocaine and an undisclosed amount of cash. The NPP has called for investigations into the matter.

Despite President Mahama ordering a probe, Mr. Ofosu asserted that Fordjour’s allegations are baseless and lack merit.

Budget for my office woefully inadequate – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/budget-for-my-office-woefully-inadequate-kwakye-ofosu/ Thu, 20 Mar 2025 08:52:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2516886 The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has raised concerns over what he describes as an insufficient budgetary allocation to his office, warning that the GH¢78 million assigned for the year is inadequate to support the operational needs of the three key agencies under his supervision.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, Kwakye Ofosu highlighted the financial struggles of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), the Information Services Department (ISD), and the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He stressed that these institutions play a vital role in public communication and media integrity but face severe limitations due to funding constraints.

He further revealed that the three agencies collectively employ 2,537 civil servants who depend on the budget to carry out their mandates effectively.

Kwakye Ofosu particularly pointed out the urgent financial needs of the GBC, which requires GH¢36 million to expand its services to the six newly created regions.

“The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation alone needs GH¢36 million to establish a presence in the six regions that they [the previous administration] created,” he stated.

He emphasized the need for increased funding to ensure effective government communication and information dissemination.

NPP’s absence at Economic Dialogue was their own choice – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/npps-absence-at-economic-dialogue-was-their-own-choice-kwakye-ofosu/ Tue, 04 Mar 2025 16:19:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2511147 Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has refuted claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was deliberately excluded from the National Economic Dialogue, stating that it was a decision made by the party itself.

The Abura Asebu Kwamankese MP explained that the NPP’s absence was a choice they made, despite calls from President John Mahama for their participation.

“The NPP made the choice not to participate. The President urged their involvement, but it was up to the party,” he said.

This comes after Ofoase-Ayirebi MP and former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, raised concerns over the NPP’s exclusion from the dialogue.

Oppong Nkrumah questioned why President Mahama encouraged their participation knowing that the Minority would not be invited.

Reacting to these concerns, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that the National Economic Dialogue was intended to be an all-inclusive event.

“I was not fully aware if special invitations were sent out, but the NPP could have participated even if they were not formally invited,” he stated.

He further clarified that former appointees of the NPP were present at the event, proving that no political party was specifically targeted.

“People like Kwame Pianim, a leading member of the NPP, were there. Also, former appointees like Dr. Paul Acquah and Dr. Ernest Addison, who served as governors of the Bank of Ghana under NPP administrations, were in attendance,” he noted.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also pointed out that the NPP’s absence was not unexpected, given their earlier stance. “The NPP had already threatened not to participate unless certain conditions were met. They did not seem eager to be part of it,” he remarked. He also reminded listeners of the NPP’s history of boycotting similar events, such as the Senchi Economic Forum.

“It’s regrettable, but the reality is that nothing stopped them from attending,” he added, emphasizing that the dialogue was open to all.

I will leave gov’t if… – Kwakye Ofosu says after GJA blames Mahama for assault on journalists http://34.58.148.58/i-will-leave-govt-if-kwakye-ofosu-says-after-gja-blames-mahama-for-assault-on-journalists/ Wed, 19 Feb 2025 17:10:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2506469 Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama and Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed claims that the government is responsible for recent assaults on journalists.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he assured that President Mahama’s administration would never target journalists over criticisms.

“No single journalist in this country will be attacked because they have spoken against the government. The day that happens, I will hear it and leave government because it won’t happen,” he said.

His comments come after the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kwabena Dwumfour, on Tuesday, February 18, strongly condemned the Mahama administration’s inaction over what he described as a rising number of attacks on journalists.

Mr. Dwumfour revealed that since the start of President Mahama’s administration, seven cases of assaults have been recorded, calling the situation “unprecedented.”

However, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described the narrative as “most regrettable” and unfair to President Mahama and the government.

“Why would President Mahama even dream of attacking a journalist? Someone like Manasseh [Azure Awuni], despite his criticisms, Mahama still mentions his name during speeches and would never want to attack any journalist,” he stated.

He added that President Mahama is open to criticism and maintains a friendly relationship with his critics.

“The President will meet with the GJA President to further assure him on the matter. I want to emphasise that we will not harm any journalist,” Kwakye Ofosu assured.

Kwakye Ofosu defends A-G’s dropped prosecutions http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-defends-a-gs-dropped-prosecutions/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 08:04:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2502961 Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has mounted a spirited defence of the Attorney General’s decision to discontinue certain high-profile cases.

The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, days after his swearing-in, has dropped about seven cases involving several Pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) members, sparking debate over the legal and political implications of the move.

However, Kwakye Ofosu insists that the decision is a necessary step toward correcting past injustices.

The Abura Asebu Kwamankese legislator argues that the cases lacked merit, were politically motivated, and were designed to silence the individuals involved.

According to him, some persons were unfairly targeted, citing the ambulance purchase trial involving Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and the former NDC Chairman’s alleged leaked tape.

“I have always maintained that what justification existed for prosecuting Ofosu Ampofo and leaving out the state-sponsored terrorists who engaged in the mayhem at the Ayawaso West by-election?” he questioned in an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV.

He added, “There was a commission of inquiry that prescribed sanctions for them. The government refused to act on it. Rather, it chose to go after the chairman of the opposition party, accusing him of convening a meeting to discuss a response to the attack that NDC members suffered. This was clearly a travesty of justice.”

On the prosecution of Dr. Forson, he stated, “There is no doubt that the Ato Forson case was instituted to silence him as a ranking member of the Finance Committee when the E-Levy debate came up. The Appeals Court threw it out.”

Meanwhile, he noted that Dr. Ayine will, in the coming days, hold a press conference to provide details on the withdrawn cases.

For 32 years, judiciary has consistently ruled against NDC – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/for-32-years-judiciary-has-consistently-ruled-against-ndc-kwakye-ofosu/ Tue, 11 Feb 2025 06:54:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2502905 Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the judiciary of being unfair to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the past 32 years.

According to the Abura Asebu Kwamankese MP, the judiciary has consistently ruled against the NDC, a pattern he claims dates back to the era of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“The Chief Justice is not at the beck and call of the President. She is the head of an independent institution. However, I have my views, and I don’t think they’ve been fair to the NDC. For 32 years, they have consistently ruled against us,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV.

Mr. Ofosu cited rulings on the June 4th and 31st December anniversaries, as well as J.H. Mensah’s legal challenges on ministerial vetting, all of which the NDC lost.

He argued that this trend is not the same in cases involving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that suits filed by NPP members were expedited, while those brought by the NDC faced prolonged delays.

“It was possible for Afenyo-Markin to file a case in court and have it heard within twelve hours. Yet, the minority’s case against the passage of the E-Levy has been pending for three years,” he lamented.

He also accused former Attorney General Godfred Dame of selectively changing judges in cases involving NPP figures, including Kennedy Agyapong, while similar requests by NDC affiliates were declined.

“A judge who held Kennedy Agyapong in contempt was changed because it was said that the contempt was directed at him. Yet, in the Montie Three case, the same judges who were allegedly disrespected were the ones sitting in judgment,” he remarked.

While acknowledging that historical events may have contributed to the perceived unfair treatment, the Minister stressed that the NDC must demand fairness from the judiciary and work to address institutional bias.

“The inconsistency, the unfairness, the imbalance is manifest. That is a position I hold to this day. We need to insist on fairness and balance. While historical reasons may have created an antipathy towards the NDC, justice should not be dispensed based on political perception,” he added.

You have the ultimate prize – Kwakye Ofosu tells Bole-Bamboi youth http://34.58.148.58/you-have-the-ultimate-prize-kwakye-ofosu-tells-bole-bamboi-youth/ Wed, 22 Jan 2025 09:51:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2495705 Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) rioting youth in the Bole-Bamboi constituency to exercise restraint.

Some irate youth on Tuesday reportedly burnt car tyres at the residence of President John Dramani Mahama’s father over their MP, Yusif Sulemana’s snub in the ministerial appointments.

However, Mr. Ofosu has admonished that constituents must pride themselves in the fact that President Mahama is an indigene of the land.

In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, the Abura Asebu Kwamankese MP stated that was an ultimate prize they must cherish.

He acknowledged that the expectations on regional balance in the appointments are high but all demands can be met and satisfied.

“Sometimes you will try everything possible but a certain dynamic will come up that you will not fulfil it like in the case of the Bole people.

“I can understand that the MP is serving his fourth term and has contributed his part but the people are not focusing on the fact that they have the ultimate prize. The President is from Bole,” he said.

To him, an appointee’s background or hometown do not really matter but their competence.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Kwakye Ofosu stated, “I have been in government communications for many years, and I am confident I can manage this responsibility.”

He acknowledged that the role would require him to be the official voice of the government and ensure timely and accurate information reaches the public.

“My job is to speak on behalf of the government and bring information closer to the people,” he added.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu admitted that his social life might be affected due to the demanding nature of the position but emphasized that he was ready to serve.

“I must work for God and country, so it’s fine if my social life takes a hit,” he noted.

As a Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, he also assured his constituents of his commitment to their development.

“I will continue to serve my constituency while handling my government duties effectively. I will ensure that responsibilities are well allocated so I can perform my duties diligently,” he added.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that Shamima Muslim will be working under his leadership in the communications team.

He stressed the importance of collaboration with professionals to achieve government objectives.

“Where challenges arise, I will engage professionals to assist my team in delivering quality communication,” he stated.

He further disclosed the advantage of social media in modern governance, saying, “Social media has made communication much easier, and we will leverage it to reach the people effectively.”

Also, the NDC MP praised President Mahama’s inclusive leadership style, contrasting it with that of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“President Mahama’s approach to governance is inclusive and participatory, which makes a big difference,” he remarked.

He expressed optimism about working with officials in various ministries, noting that many of them are approachable and willing to collaborate.

“I have built relationships within the ministries, and I believe I can work well with them to achieve our communication goals,” he said.

Mr. Ofosu assured Ghanaians of his dedication to ensuring transparency and accessibility in government communication, promising to deliver accurate and timely information to the public.

Kwakye Ofosu replies Afenyo-Markin on funding for anti-corruption committee http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-replies-afenyo-markin-on-funding-for-anti-corruption-committee/ Wed, 18 Dec 2024 16:51:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485280 The Spokesperson for the President-elect, John Mahama’s transition team, has said that the five-member anti-corruption committee does not require funding to operate.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Felix Kwakye Ofosu emphasised that the committee is non-partisan and the members have on their own undertaken several anti-corruption activities.

In this regard, the Abura Asebu Kwamankese MP-elect noted they will be delivering a Pro Bono service.

“The issue of funding should not even come up because nobody has said they need funding to do anything. Mahama has an office where he has been operating since 2016.

“The NDC also has several offices it operates from so we are not now going to spend money on creating a new office. They do not need any budget nor have we made any funding request so the question on funding doesn’t even arise. They will be providing pro-bono services,” he explained.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu’s clarification comes after Effutu MP and Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin questioned the committee’s source of funding.

According to Mr Afenyo-Markin, the work of the committee will require significant funding, and it is important to know the source of the funds that will support its activities.

He argued that, if the committee is privately funded, corruption could eventually arise in their camp, but if it is publicly funded, the NPP would want to understand the process for allocating those resources.

Afenyo-Markin emphasised that the NPP would also investigate the committee’s work.

However, Mr Kwakye Ofosu has allayed all fears, stating there is no cause for alarm because it will not cost anybody a dime.

The team will be chaired by North Tongu Member of Parliament(MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as part of his efforts to combat corruption and the looting of state resources.

Other members include former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo, retired Commissioner of Police Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer. Their diverse expertise is expected to enhance the initiative’s effectiveness.

The committee is expected to collect and investigate corruption cases, which will then be handed over to the relevant authorities for further examination and prosecution.

Why do you expect felicitations from Mahama? – Kwakye Ofosu to Akufo-Addo http://34.58.148.58/why-do-you-expect-felicitations-from-mahama-kwakye-ofosu-to-akufo-addo/ Tue, 09 Jan 2024 07:45:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2339528 The 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Abura-Asebu-Kwamakese constituency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has advised President Akufo-Addo to channel his energies into fixing the economy rather than lying in wait for commendations from his political opponent.

This follows President Akufo-Addo’s comments that after three years following 2020 electoral victory, he was yet to receive a congratulatory message from John Dramani Mahama.

But according to Mr Ofosu, the President has failed on his mandate, making it unnecessary to send felicitations.

“We have a situation where almost every sector in Ghana is suffering and it has ground to a halt. Government cannot meet basic commitments in education, health, infrastructure and almost every sector.

“These are the issues that Ghanaians expect President Akufo-Addo and his government to focus on. Why will he in this day and age, at this twilight of his tenure as President be demanding congratulations for elections that were held several years ago.

“Why would President Akufo-Addo expect to be congratulated when he clearly procured that victory through bloody means,” he said in an interview on JoyNews on January 7, 2024.

The former Deputy Communications Minister accused the President of enlisting individuals into the Ghana Armed Forces who allegedly gunned down some 10 Ghanaians whose only intention was to observe the election processes.

Mr Ofosu stressed that to date, the President has not briefed the public on what was being done to seek justice for those who lost their lives.

“If you shed blood to win the election why would anybody congratulate you? Congratulations are reserved for those who play fairly, who play by the book and win fairly. President Akufo-Addo does not fall in that category,”

“So Ghanaians are not interested in this pursuit of vanity by President Akufo-Addo. He should focus on the important things that affect the lives of everybody in this country,” he emphasised.

Most wasteful expenditure – Kwakye Ofosu blasts Akufo-Addo over national cathedral project http://34.58.148.58/most-wasteful-expenditure-kwakye-ofosu-blasts-akufo-addo-over-national-cathedral-project/ Wed, 02 Aug 2023 13:56:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2279517 Former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has strongly criticised the National Cathedral project, denouncing it as an extravagant and wasteful expenditure.

He expressed disbelief that anyone could consider this project a priority, stating, “No one can convince me that the project is a priority. We have other pressing matters to address instead of focusing on such wasteful expenditure.”

To him, the government’s allocation of resources to this project signifies a lack of seriousness and capability to govern the country effectively.

“I was shocked when Akufo-Addo said the project is his topmost priority,” Kwakye Ofosu exclaimed, questioning the President’s decision to place the National Cathedral above other critical issues. “Basic things like settling arrears of government workers could not be fulfilled, but they are being irrational with their priorities,” he added, implying that the government is prioritizing political advantage over prudent investment.

“It’s astonishing that the President would consider building a national cathedral as his priority,” Kwakye Ofosu continued in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Tuesday.

He emphasised the need for the government to target essential areas and focus on the most pressing needs of the nation.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, joined the crusade against the National Cathedral project, exposing alleged corruption at the National Cathedral Secretariat.

Mr Ablakwa revealed that GH₵2.6 million was paid to a company owned by a board member of the cathedral, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, without proper justification. He expressed concern over the ballooning cost of the project, which has reached almost $400 million, amid several controversies.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu provided a solution to the escalating costs of the project, urging the government to undertake a drastic reduction in expenses.

He stressed the importance of adjusting priorities to ensure responsible financial management and more sensible investment decisions.

Kwakye Ofosu blames govt’s reckless spending for economic woes http://34.58.148.58/kwakye-ofosu-blames-govts-reckless-spending-for-economic-woes/ Wed, 02 Aug 2023 13:24:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2279485 A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications team, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has expressed his concerns about the economic situation in the country, attributing it to reckless spending by the government.

He highlighted the government’s borrowing deficit, which amounted to a massive five hundred billion Ghana Cedis.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Tuesday, he asserted that the economic challenges were not solely caused by external factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic or the Russia-Ukraine war.

He stated, “The reality is that what we are suffering now is not the result of Covid but a result of deliberate recklessness. You decide that you will spend yourself and become bankrupt because you needed to win an election and you turn around and blame Covid.”

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also criticised the credibility of the NPP government in managing the economy, accusing them of going back on their promises.

He pointed out that the same finance minister and deputies who denied going to the IMF in the past are now seeking IMF assistance.

Moreover, he expressed concern about the government’s actions, including the “Domestic Debt Exchange Program,” which affected bondholders and caused significant pain and suffering to the Ghanaian middle class.

Regarding the depreciation of the cedi, he referred to criticisms by the NPP, led by Dr Alhaji Bawumia, during the NDC’s time in power when the dollar exchange rate against the cedi was lower.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu highlighted the irony of the situation, with the NPP now facing a similar currency depreciation issue during their governance.

EC’s intention to cancel registration of 17 political parties vindicates NDC – Kwakye Ofosu http://34.58.148.58/ecs-intention-to-cancel-registration-of-17-political-parties-vindicates-ndc-kwakye-ofosu/ Fri, 14 Oct 2022 14:57:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2171752 A spokesperson for former President John Mahama has said that the NDC feels vindicated by the Electoral Commission’s (EC) intention to cancel the registration of some 17 political parties for their non-establishment of party offices at the regional and national levels.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu in an interview on Top Story on Thursday said the development is not surprising to the NDC.

According to him, the party had always suspected that the EC has “procured a number of mushroom political parties who exist only on paper” to court support for them during Inter-Party Advisory Committee meetings.

He noted that the decision by the EC is only a reaction to similar concerns that the NDC has always maintained.

“This post-facto attempt by the EC to crackdown on political parties at best can be described as a reaction to the incessant raising of such issues by the NDC and other interested political parties. So what President Mahama said is absolutely true and factual,” he said.

He alleged that some leaders of the mentioned political parties are financiers of the NPP.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu accused the Jean-Mensa-led administration of running one-man IPAC meetings without tolerating counter arguments from other political parties.

“Since Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare took over the running of EC, IPAC has simply become a pale shadow of itself. Instead of being a deliberative forum and platform at which proposals are tabled and considered and consensus reached on them for their consensus and implementation as has been the case since the 1996 elections, IPAC has now become a platform where a presenter comes and presents his presentation to the political parties.”

The spokesperson for the former President was reacting to the EC’s announcement that it will cancel the registration of some 17 political parties.

The EC in a statement said these parties have not met the requirements of the Political Parties Act, 2000 of establishing regional and national offices across the country.

It, therefore, gave them up to Thursday, October 20, 2022, to show proof of why their registrations should not be cancelled.

According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, as a party that prides itself in having the men, he expected to see more new faces.

He said he has, however been disappointed to see the same old faces spring up again.

He took to his Facebook page to make the comments following the President’s release of ministerial nominees list on Thursday.

To him, President Akufo-Addo has failed to show depth with his list.

The candidate, among other things, noted that the incumbent MP is an alien among his own party members which is not a good omen.

However, Mr Donkor challenged him to cross-check from the parliamentary committee on sports, noting that there is no budget reading he doesn’t contribute to.
